I want to use my Imac in a cramped space

How do I remove the stand? is this possiable?
Can you do it easy?
thank you

Prior to the release of the G5 iMac with iSight model, previous models/versions of the G5 iMac were VESA compliant and you could buy an VESA mount adapter to hang it on a wall. That part according to apples website is not compatible with the G5 with iSight, so I would have to assume that it is not compatible with the new intel version of the iMac, which mimics the design of the G5 with iSight.
Since earlier versions could be hung on the wall, the stand was removable. Not sure what that says about the current versions.

You need a network connection and a product such as ScreenRecycler. All such products require a bootable OS on the iMac.

  • I want to use my iMac as a telephone

I use the iListen software to dictate to my iMac, so I am already wearing a headset with microphone. It's a hassle to pull it off to make a phone call. I'd like to use my iMac to make calls with a landline. I'm already paying for unlimited long distance on my landline, so I don't want to use my cell phone. After doing some reading, it looks like I need a voice modem, but I have no idea where to get one, or which one to buy. I'm running an intel iMac with OS 10.4.11.
BTW, PhoneValet, and other products like it, don't support using the computer for dialing out, so that won't work.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

I'll check it out, but I really don't want to use internet phone. My clients and contacts all know to contact me on my landline. I make a lot of long distance calls, and unlimited long distance is very inexpensive for me on the landline. I'm just amazed that the mac won't do it.

  • I want to use my iMac's hard drive as backup f my Macbook Pron i d

I want to copy all the files on my Macbook hard drive to my iMac in my office which has a bigger capacity. How can i do this using (USB) cables?

All the instructions are included in the Mac Help file so it would also be helpful to go there and print out a copy of the page: Finder > Help > Mac Help > Type Target Disk into the search field and select the second topic titled "Transferring files between two computers using FireWire".
Go the System Preferences on your MBP and select Startup Disk. Towards the bottom right select Target Disk Mode; wait for the computer to restart. Once it has completed the cycle you will know that it is in Target Disk mode due to the grey screen with the FireWire icon displayed; this icon will move about( just like screen saver behavior). Now insert the FireWire cable then connect the open end into the  desktop computer: iMac. Wait a few moments for the MBP to show up as an icon on the desktop. Once it is there you can access it the way you normally do for an external HDD. Double click to open and browse the MBP.
Once you are finished with the transfer you will need to eject the mounted volume by your favorite method: highlight and press Command + E; drag the icon to the Trash. Disconnect the FireWire cable.
The only way out of Target Disk Mode for the target computer (your MBP is to hold down the "On" button until it shuts down.
    Your'e done!

I am using a Macbook Pro that is running Windows with Boot Camp. I want to connect it to my iMac so that I can use the iMac as a second monitor.

  • Using 27" iMac as display for a gaming PC

Before anyone rips me to ribbons for wanting to use an iMac as a display for a windows PC, let me explain my situation: I need to upgrade my 2007 iMac and I was looking at the 27" iMac. I would like use it as a monitor for my gaming PC when I'm not using it as a Mac because I barely have enough room on my desk for my old iMac and gaming PC monitor as it is. A 27" iMac will take up my whole desk and won't fit with any other monitor. I'd just get a bigger desk, but my studio apartment is too small and cluttered for one.
I know there is the Atlona DVI to Mini DisplayPort Converter, but after hours of searching, I could only find articles saying "it should work with PC" not "I tested it and it does work with PC. Here are some pictures as proof". I'm not willing to spend that much on something that might work.
I was wondering if anyone knew of a site that gave proof that the Atlona DVI to Mini DisplayPort Converter worked the way I hope it does? or does someone know of something coming out in the near future that would allow what I need?

I have exactly the same problem and have been scouring the forums to find an answer. Hoping to use my shiny big iMac as a display for my gaming PC which only has a DVI output. From what I've read I get the impression the answer is currently no (some problem specific to the 27" iMacs from what I can make out), but out of interest have you had any luck with this??
The only answer I can find round this at the moment (if the converter you mention doesn't work) is to get a new graphics card with a DisplayPort output - still weighing up whether to splash out on a new one and what the chances are of me screwing up my PC if I try installing it myself!!

  • Can I use my iMac as a display for a G5 - New Mac User

I am still a fairly new iMac user, I would like to know if I can use my exsisting iMac with someones elses G5, and use my iMac as a screen display for his G5. Im sorry if this topic does not belong in this forum, I did try searching thru other forums to post and read up on this info.
Please direct me to the right place, or answer my question. Thanks in advance.

Here's the scoop, if you want to use any iMac as an external display for a G5 Mac you have these options.
    1. Target Disk Mode, only available on iMacs with Firewire:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=58207
This only gives you access to the data files of that Mac and basically treats it as an external hard disk.
    2. Networking via ethernet, wireless, or Firewire, you can setup Virtual Network Computing or Remote Desktop:
    http://www.macupdate.com/search.php?keywords=VNC&os=macosx
    http://www.macupdate.com/search.php?os=macosx&keywords=remote+desktop
    3. As others have suggested, somehow to remove the VGA cable from the logicboard of the iMac and connect it to the Mac externally.
The external VGA port of iMacs only display what is on the Mac itself and as far I know can't be used in a reverse signal application.

  • Using an imac g5 (2004) as a monitor

Is it possible to connect a new 2011/2012 15" macbook pro to a 2004 imac g5 for use as a second monitor?
I am a not-too-busy freelance graphic designer.  My 2004 imac is chugging along, but I really do need to upgrade.  I am interested in a macbook pro, but would like to be able to access a larger screen at times when I'm working on layouts and want to see more of what's going on.
The imac does have a mini display port to quote from the specs:
    (Mini-VGA)
    Details:
Apple notes that the system has a "VGA output port for video mirroring on [an] external display or projector" and "S-video and composite video output to connect directly to a TV or projector", using an adapter (sold separately).
I'm not ready to spend for the Apple monitor, and the one I've shopped so far (Acer 24" LED) which was priced affordably, showed text all blurry when plugged into an ipad (their only option for sampling the monitor in-store.)
I'd love some ideas on ways to use my current imac as a monitor and/or suggestions on tight, hi-res 20"+ monitors in the $250 range.
    Thanks so much!

So, you want to use the iMac G5's screen as the second display, correct, not the MacBook Pro?
The iMac's video port is for output only.  There is no traditional way to connect it to another computer directly, for the other computer to use the iMac's display.
However, there is a way to do it over a network connection, using this clever application
    http://www.screenrecycler.com/ScreenRecycler.html
and the "VNC" protocol.  You're essentially doing screen sharing, but making the MacBook Pro send its "second screen" (which the app creates) to the iMac, which displays it at full screen using VNC.
The main limitation is network speed, so you should use a wired Ethernet connection instead of wireless, between the two Macs, if possible.  Even then, it will not be as fast (screen refresh rate) as a "real" display connection, but it should work reasonably well for mostly static images (versus something that is always moving like video editing or playing games).
But getting a regular display that connects in the normal way would be much simpler and more convenient.

  • How do i setup my iphone using an imac

I have a new iPhone 4GS and previously setup and synched everthing on my MacBook Pro, but want to use my iMac moving forward.  However, the first step on setting up the iPhone ask for me to plug it into my computer.  The iMac doesn't have a port to plug into?  How do i create the initial synch?  Moving forward I can do it wirelessly, but don't know how to set it up initially.  any help is appreciated.

  • Can I use the iMac to access the webbase MS Office in company's server

My friend gave me an iMac (without keyboard & mouse), I want to use the iMac to replace my old Intel notebook, the problem is I need to know if I can use the iMac to access the windows application (MS Word, Excel) at my company server online, or can the problem be solved if I switch the iMac to windows environment (use the bootcamp?)

When you say can I access the company server, the answer is probably yes. Subject to having the correct password and login.
When you say access the windows application MS Word / Excel then you need to be a bit more precise..
You can't run MS Office for Windows on Mac OSX, you can run MS Office for Mac on Mac OSX, and you can run MS Office for Windows on your Mac if you have a copy of MS Windows, and either use Bootcamp, VMWare or Parallels.
Please post back with more info.
    Cheers

  • How do I change the icloud account on my iphone? I want to use the same account for all my apple devices (macbook air and imac and iphone). I can't see where I can amend the iphone account because it is in grey?

I want to use the same account for all my apple devices (macbook air, imac and iphone). I can't see how I can amend the iphone account because it is in grey? I also can't remember the password for this account so i can't even delete it and start again?
    Help!
    Thanks

Deleting an iCloud account only deletes it from the Device, not from iCloud.  In iOS 8, the name of this setting changed to "Sign Out" as that is a better reflection of what actually happens.  Your iCloud data remains on the server, available to devices still signed into the account, but the device you sign out of the account on is disconnected from the account, and as a result, the iCloud data from that account is removed from the device.  It will redownload to the device should you sign back into the account.
The only issue you'll run into when you switch between accounts is with my photo stream photos older than 30 days.  When you delete (or sign out of) and account, your photo stream photos are deleted along with the other data from the account in question.  However, unlike other data which remains on the server and can redownload to your device when you sign back in, my photo stream photos only remain in iCloud for 30 days.  When you sign back in, you will only get back my photo stream photos added in the last 30 days (as older photos are no longer in iCloud to redownload).  Like other account data, any my photo stream photos on your other devices signed into the account are unaffected by this.  If you want to keep older my photo stream photos on your device as you change iCloud accounts, save them to your camera roll before deleting (signing out of) the account.
