I want to use photo stream and I have iPhoto' 09 8.1.2 at the moment, which upgrade do I need?

I have been trying the 'Software update' thing but It isn't coming up with anything. I just want to use photo stream in icloud.

You are using iPhoto '09, and Photo Stream requires iPhoto '11 or Aperture 3, so you have to purchase iPhoto '11 from the App Store.
Before purchasing, open Finder, select Applications in the sidebar, and delete iPhoto. Then, open App Store and purchase iPhoto. After being downloaded and installed, make a backup of your iPhoto library in a different folder: iPhoto will update your library, and if this process fails, you will lose all your pictures

If I don't want to use photo stream, can I still upload a bunch of photos to iCloud and then share them with people who do not have iCloud?

iCloud provides a simple gallery in the form of 'Photo Journal' - uploading of photos from iPhoto to web pages hosted on iCloud, but only from iOS devices; and the photos are compressed to a size adequate for online viewing but are not available in full resolution as with the old MobileMe Gallery. Apple have provided a sample album here.
There are various other photo gallery services which you may find preferable: some of them are examined here -

  • If I don't use photo stream and I delete my icloud, will my photos be deleted?

If I don't use photo stream and I delete my icloud, will my photos be deleted?

Please rephrase the question. You can not "delete" your iCloud. iCloud is a service. Not a thing.

  • If I have my iMac internet sharing turned on, the Airport Utility won't recognize the Airport Express I want to use to stream iTunes to my stereo.  When I turn the iMac internet sharing off, the Airport Express appears but calls itself a base station.

If I have my iMac internet sharing turned on, the Airport Utility won't recognize the Airport Express I want to use to stream iTunes to my stereo.  When I turn the iMac internet sharing off, the Airport Express appears but calls itself a base station.  I just bought the Airport Express and it's not clear how I should set up my System Preferences for Sharing.  Thx

Yes. Unfortunately the stereo is too far from the wired ethernet connection   My iMac is connected to the internet using an ethernet cable from the DSL modem (plugged into the wall, not wireless).  The Airport Express is plugged into an outlet 25' away from the iMac and connected to my speakers.  I've turned on the iMac Airport wireless Internet Sharing, hoping to stream iTunes to the Express connected to the stereo.  The iMac Airport picks up several neighborhood networks so I know it's working (and I connected my iPhone wifi to it just to check as well).
When I use Airport Utility to set up the Express, the only time Utility recognizes the Express is when the iMac Airport is off.  When I turn on the iMac Airport, the Airport Utility immediately loses the Express and asks to rescan.
Maybe that explains my problem better.

Thanks for responding. When I open the email and click on Subscribe to this Photo Stream, this is the message I get:
To subscribe to Pamela Mccormack’s “Baltimore Zoo” photo stream on your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or Mac, open your invitation in the Mail app, and click the Subscribe button in the message.
To subscribe you need to be signed in to iCloud on:
an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with iOS 6 or later, or
a Mac with OS X 10.8.2 or later and iPhoto 9.4 or Aperture 3.4 or later
So I have Mac OS X 10.8.5 and iPhoto 9.4.3 installed.

  • Photo Stream and MobileMe in iPhoto: I don't get it!

    Hi
Photo Stream is on for iPhoto on my iMac, iPhone 4, iPad and iPod Touch.
I'm somewhat confused about how to handle this feature - aside from the basic understanding that it syncs photos I take, say, on my iPhone, to all other devices without the need to manually sync.
    Could someone please confirm / suggest answers to the following;
    1) photos I take on my iPhone are shown in my camera roll and under a separate photo stream roll.  I understand that photo stream on iOS devices holds the last 1000 images taken (unless you delete some following iOS 5.1).  Correct?
    2) my iPhoto library on my iMac stores 100% of the photo stream photos thereby negating the need to manually sync my iPhone (which I use to take photos) with iMac. Correct again?
    3) Under 'Events' on iPhoto (iMac) it seems to create a new 'event' every month (and christens it, say, as 'March 2012 photo stream' for example) which holds that months images taken.
    a) the folders appear in the top left hand corner of the 'Events' page which I don't like as all other events are shown in chronological order (i.e. the latest 'event' being in the bottom right corner of the page). Can I do anything about this, as in set it so that the photo stream folders create themselves at the bottom of the screen after the previous last event?
    b) These monthly 'events' are just that; events that have happened within that last month which could comprise of several different events.  I categorise by actual event rather than everything that has happened within a particular time frame.  This therefore immediately conflicts with photo stream.  I presume I am perhaps meant to select certain 'events' within the month's photo stream and then create a new 'event' from that but I don't know how to do this?  Could anyone advise how / what they do?
    4) I had a MobileMe account which expired last year.  Instead of resurrecting the email address for my iCloud account I chose a slightly different one.  This seems to pose a problem as under 'Albums' I have several MobileMe albums which generate a pop-up box asking me to log in.  As my MobileMe account is expired, the password prompt is not accepted.  I therefore can't share my photos as I previously did.  Is there a work-around?
    Thanks!

    1. Yes.
    2. Yes.
    3. a: View Menu -> Sort Events
    3. b Flag the photos you want to move and go Events -> Create Event from Flagged Photos

  • Can't select photo stream and Facebook in iphoto

I don't know why, on the side of iPhoto where we can select the library, we got a section call WEB, where we got our Photo Stream and Facebook account.
I don't know why but I can't select those two facebook account and Photo Stream to see and manage the photos that are in those section. I click on it and nothing happen.
But I can share with the share button at the bottom to those sections
Can someone can tell me why I can't select those sections?
I got iPhoto 9.4 and Mountain Lion 10.8.2

Make a temporary, backup copy (if you don't already have a backup copy) of the library and try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home()/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
         User/Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
3 - launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto.  You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
NOTE 2:  In Lion and Mountain Lion the Home/Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.

  • HT201077 If you are seeing the message "Photo Stream is not enabled. Sign into iCloud to view Photo Stream," and you have already signed in, apply your settings to enable Photo Stream.

I have done everything that the Apple manual suggets to insure that I can transfer photos from my IPHONE to my Windows Desktop via ICLOUD. For some reason it still says that my ICLOUD (on my desktop) is not enabled!
    Can anyone help...please!
    Thank you!
    Ellen

First make sure iCloud and Photo Stream are installed on your PC. Connect the iPad (or iPhone) to your PC with the USB cable and start iTunes on your PC. Once your iPad/iPhone shows up under "Devices" in the sidebar (which you may have to enable), click it. Then click "Photos" at the top of the iTunes screen on your PC. Check the "Sync Photos from" box, and then under that, click "Selected folders." (Ignore the pulldown menu to the right of "Sync Photos from" -- the important thing is to tick "Selected folders.")  A pane should open up below that with a list of folders including "Photo Stream." Choose that and then at the bottom of the screen click Sync. This worked for my Windows 7 box.

  • Using photo stream and picture questions.. having storage issues

HOw do i save my photos to my computer  and delete them from my phone?  I'm running out of storage but I don't want to lose my pictures

Check your settings in iCloud on your computer (no idea what system you are using...pc or mac). If you haven't tried the usual already (reset/restart) then try that to see if it helps. Also, you can try checking the Apple support site to see if there are any articles about this issue that offers troubleshooting ideas.

  • Aperture, Photo Stream and new iPhone

My wife just got her first iPhone but was disappointed when she looked at Photo Stream and only about 85 shots showed - I guess the ones that were sent to the iCloud in the past 30 days. She wanted some of the older ones.
So - figuring I would be a good hubby - I went into Aperture, where there are about 550 shots showing in Photo Stream, going back to last year. But when I selected some of the older ones and said "share in Photo Stream" they would not appear on her phone. I am assuming this is because Aperture still sees them as "being in Photo Stream" and therefore sees no reason to "add them to Photo Stream". How do I get around this? Do I have to delete them from the Aperture copy of Photo Stream (they are not on either iPhone nor my iPad Mini) and then re-share them from the actual Aperture library?
    Thanks for any assistance.

First of all you need to be using the same AppleID on her iPhone and the Mac with Aperture in order to see the same "My Photo Stream". (I'm assuming you are or you wouldn't see any of the photos. But just in case...)
There is more than one Photo Stream. Your main Photo Stream is called "My Photo Stream". This is only visible to Macs and iOS devices signed into the same AppleID. You can have other "Shared Photo Streams" that you can share with other AppleIDs or even publicly using a URL.
To share a photo to Photo Stream, you select it in the browser and choose (right-click) Share->Photo Stream and a dialog will appear. Within this dialog there's a popup menu that determines where to share it. You can select "New Photo Stream" which will create a new Shared Photo Stream. Or if you've already created some Shared Photo Streams, they will appear in the menu and you can add to them.
There's an additional entry in that menu called "My Photo Stream". This doesn't appear if the photo you are sharing is already in the My Photo Stream location in Aperture. So you cannot add a photo in My Photo Stream to My Photo Stream if that is where it is already located in Aperture. If you select a photo from inside a project in Aperture you will then see the "My Photo Stream" entry in the Share->Photo Stream dialog.
    Solutions for you:
To get a photo back into My Photo Stream for other devices to see, go to the project where the photo lives and Share->Photo Stream and select "My Photo Stream". By default, Aperture imports all Photo Stream photos into a monthly project automatically. If you disabled this in preferences, you could manually import it using drag and drop from My Photo Stream to a project in the library sidebar.
To get a photo into a Shared Photo Stream, select it and choose Share->Photo Stream and select New Photo Stream from the popup menu. Give it a name and description. If your wife is using the same AppleID, it will automatically show up on her iPhone in the Photos->Photo Stream app. If she is using her own AppleID, you can share it with her by adding her AppleID in the share dialog.

  • Do all my devices have to have the same apple I'd to use photo stream?

Trying to find out if my iPhone 4S and my wife's iPhone 4S have to have the same apple ID to use photo stream?

Find my phone app is related to the Apple Id not the device,
The device is then linked to the Apple ID as well.
So If you have an different AppleID on each, you would have two Find my phones

  • I currently have an iPhone 5, 16gb. I Do Not want to Loose any photos or albums by deleting them from my phone and not backing them up correctly. My iCloud backup is only storing my "Photo Stream" and I can not locate them in iTunes after I sync/Back up.

I currently have an iPhone 5, 16gb. My storage is almost full on my phone. There are only 80 mg available. I am new to icloud and also have always had trouble navigating around iTunes. (Even after endlessly reading through support and help topics as well as calling)   My concern is about Not Losing any of my photos if I delete them from my phone. I have to delete a large portion of my camera roll as well as the Album Folders I have created. Although it would be great if there was a way to just keep my albums still. I have already backed them up to an external hard-drive, my computer and a geek stick. I'm not trying to be too paranoid about these photos, but, they are all of my 3 children. There are over 4000 pictures stored on my phone. Some photos go back as far as 2009.   Can you offer any information about backing up my Camera Roll, not just "Photo Stream", and albums I've created On my phone? I read that it's good to back photos up on both iTunes as well as icloud. I even purchased extra icloud storage to back them all up.   I do regularly back up/sync, my phone to my computers.   However, I cannot even locate where they are stored on iTunes, let alone look at them. And as far as my iCloud backup, it only stores the new pictures from "Photo Stream".   Please offer any advice you may have. I do not use up a lot of storage on my phone other than Photos and Contacts (it's a work phone).   I would definitely be able to sleep better knowing my children can one day see these pictures of themselves. I appreciate your time. Thank you,

First of all, you should always save you photos on computer like any other digital camera.
Backup on iCloud or iTunes only backup your Camera Roll. The other photos should be already on the computer.
Note: Photos are not saved in iTunes, it's only a conduit between your iPhone and your photo managing software on computer.
    What computer do you have?
