I want to use WRT160N as an access point...-but

I can't see other machines on network. I have a cable modem/router with 4 ports. Total of 3 computers (2 desktops wired to cable modem ,1 wireless laptop) Wireless laptop connects thru WRT160N to internet fine. I setup WEP, hid SID, and it still connects to the internet fine. For some reason I cannot connect to workgroup. I tried disabling DHCP server in WRT160N, but then my laptop doesn't get an IP address. For now all I want to do is use the WRT160N as an access point and be able to see local workgroup computers. I'm sure it's a simple setting I'm missing - but to be honest my brain has turned to applesauce and I can't seem to find anyone talking about this type of configuration anywhere. Thanks in advance, _mez

I am confused by your setup.  You said that you have  "2 desktops wired to cable modem".   So, is this how your system looks?
modem  -------------  WRT160N  ))))          (((( wireless computer
    |   |
    |   |---  wired computer 1
    |------  wired computer 2
If this is not correct, please explain more about your setup.
If this is correct, how is the WRT160N  setup?  Is the modem wired to the Internet port or a LAN port on the WRT160N?  What address is the modem using?
What is the make and exact model number of your modem?   I assume the modem has a DHCP server  --  is that correct?   Also, is there some reason that the wired computers cannot be connected to the WRT160N?
