Does this apply to the chipset on the T400 as well? I can install 4GB RAM and have it all recognized right? Assuming 64-bit OS.
the T400 uses the GM45 chipset and will currently support up to 8GB total and possibly 16GB once larger modules are released.

Apple usually doesn’t sell RAM for older Macs. You’re probably better off buying it from a source such as OWC or Crucial and installing it yourself.

Hi Team, I am owning a Thinkpad T60 [7660A42] with 4GB hosting a 64-bit Windows 7 Home Premium. Can this laptop be upgraded to 8GB RAM? If yes what other dependancies are to be considered and which RAM model should I consider to buy? Vaidu.

  • 2008 Macbook pro, 10.6.8, upgraded to 6G RAM

I have a 2008 Macbook pro 10.6.8 & I upgraded to 6G RAM & new battery in 2013. Still, after it is on for an hour or so, the caps lock light starts blinking, fan whirs laboriously, laptop gets hot below the keyboard, then the mac eventually freezes up. If i need a new hard drive, I'm wondering which is best. I do a lot of , internet searching and movie streaming. I also do some photo & video editing & design. I want to keep this laptop for as long as I reasonably can.

You need to reapply your thermal paste, the computer sounds like its overheating. Thermal paste gets cracked and crappy overtime and chances are they didnt apply it super properly at the factory. If you put on some nice Arctic Silver paste I reckon you wont have anymore issues.

  • I want to increase the RAM of iMac?

    Hi,
I want to increase the RAM of iMac 27"(Late 2013) to 32GB, is it possible to do the same?
If yes, then please let me know the steps to do it.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Ankush Madan

Yes,  you can upgrade it to 32GB, most on this forum recommend two vendors OWC (www.macsales.com) or Crucial. If you are in the USA use  OWC, if you are anywhere else then Crucial. BTW here is s link to show how easy it is to install:

    Good luck.

Purchasing with the upgrades through Apple would add about $800 over the Black Friday deal at Best Buy.  Just looking for some advice if I will be satisfied with the based model.

All models will do what you want. Upgraded models will do it faster than the standard models.
Just why are you thinking of switching to a Mac?

  • Upgrading to 2gb RAM?

Am thinking about upgrading my iMac Core Duo 2ghz from 1gb to 2gb.
Is it worth it for me, will I notice performance increases?
I use iLife, Handbrake, I do video conversions using ffmpeg, Office under Rosetta. Am also planning to get Paralels soon to using a few windows programs.
Also, Apple want £240 for 2 x 1gb RAM chips, but other sites do the same spec for £80, why such a big diffrence with Apple, is it better stuff or are they milking the customers?

RAM upgrade is always a good idea. Parallels will take great advantage from 2gb as for iMovie and rosetta applications. If you plan to use Parallels I would say that 2gb is the bare minimum, so you can reserve 512mb to Windows and you still have plenty of ram to run mac applications.
Handbrake is a numbers-crunching application, so it is influenced by CPU speed, RAM wouldn't speed up the video conversion much.
As long as I understand you are not over-stressing your iMac (no pro applications such as final cut or photoshop), so probably you wouldn't notice a great performances increase immediately. You'll see the benefits when opening more than one application at time, and surely when you'll run parallels.
You can see how much ram you are using looking at "System Memory" section in "Activity Monitor". Use your mac as you normally do for a couple of hours, then open activity monitor and look at how much memory is allocated.
A low amount of "free memory" means that you are using almost all your available ram (and you should consider the upgrade), but what is more important is "Page ins/out". It shows the number of times your mac swapped information between ram and disk. Swapping is what makes your mac slow. You'll see two numbers divided by a "/". The one you should care about is the second one, that shows how many times you needed cached information. If that number is zero it means that you never swapped from disk back to ram, so probably you wouldn't need more ram.
Another important parameter is "Inactive memory", the higher the better. A low number means that you need more virtual memory (and so the bad bad swapping to disk).
Do not buy RAM from Apple Store! It's ridiculously over priced. For some reason Apple doesn't want you to buy ram from its store (probably they want you to add ram at BTO time). Have a look at crucial dot com instead.
if you need more info, please ask

Is is possible to install Win 2007 in MacPro (retina display) with USB (2.0 or 3.0) as new Mac retina display lacks DVD.
MacBook Pro with Retina display, Windows 7
They have been calling their notebook a MacPro for a year. Or is it this?

To save space on the computer, Apple has decided to solder the memory onto the logic board on the MacBook Pro with Retina display and the MacBook Air, and that's why you can't add more memory after buying the Mac. This only applies to these computers, not for the other ones

Your 14 days are up, however you could take your case to Apple Inc. regarding same,
    however those are the stipulations.
RAM cannot be upgraded however, period, its permanent on the logic board after mfg.
As for the SSD (solid state drive), upgrading same is a bad premise 9 times out of 10.
No notebooks is a mass storage device, and you need an external HD for data redundancy and backups regardless.
data that is static on your SSD and not used very often has no logical reason to be ON the notebooks, and best saved on a superslim external HD ($60)
SSD are very expensive, even a small one,  HD are cheap as dirt and users are recommended to have one regardless for many good reasons.

  • Want to change the Ram on Macbook Pro?

I have MacBook Pro 15 Inch Mid 2010
The current memory is: 4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3,
I want to change the Ram to 16 GB rather than 4 GB,
I need an advice for the best one on Amazon?

How much RAM do you have installed? A minimum of 4 GB is suggested; more is much better depending on your use of the machine. It also helps to lots of empty hard drive space for the OS to work properly - how much empty space to you have on your hard drive?

Solved: Since this board is so lively and bustling with activity for anyone else with the same quesion, I've upgrade to 16GB ram and a SSD HD. Go to crucial.com and check your sytem for available compatible upgrades.

It is always a good idea to backup your data prior to ANY update/upgrade.
That being said, 10.6 is designed to upgrade without the loss of data if you are moving from 10.4 or later.

  • NB305 - I have upgraded to 2GB RAM and Movie still look poor...

    Hi
I recently bought an NB305 which i was hoping to watch movies on, however i started watching a standard def movie fromitunes and it slow and jumpy..
Ive upgraded to 2GB Ram with very little improvement..
Can this be fixed ? or am i best returning and getting an ipad ??
    Many thanks
    Simon

    Numpty,
Im having the same problems and Im frustrated that everyone seems silent on all the threads I can find on this subject. I also upgraded to 2gb ram with no improvement on my itunes video performance and I'm just watching standard quality videos as well (instead of HD). I cant get through more than 1 minute of a Tv show from itunes without the sound going out and the video getting horribly choppy, requiring me to pause and let the video and sound get back on track.
I am using Windows 7 Professional. I have since tried to adjust my virtual ram (kicked it up to 3000mb), tried to adjust my video color quality (down to 16-bit), and tried playing the videos in Quicktime (which I figure has less memory requirements than itunes). None of these adjustments has helped. The only thing that might be working for me, though not a lot, has been to watch the videos in a very small window....but I'm starting to think Im just kidding myself with this even. I cant believe this isnt more of an issue for ppl. Its just weird that a little 2 year old ipod can play movies better than a brand new laptop, even if it is a netbook. I just ordered a recovery DVD from Toshiba to restore my comp to factory settings (i didnt make a backup before i installed Windows 7 Professional cuz im a $uck) and Im hoping that maybe some of the original video drivers or graphics settings might just work better....maybe I messed them up when I installed Professional, i dont know.
    Input anyone?
