I wanted to install Firefox 4 and it has taken over my computer and I cannot close it or get back to my original browser. Help NOW!!!

I have just downloaded Firefox 4 and was trying to install it. I need to get to my old browser but I cannot get away from Firefox. How the devil do you close it? It covers the entire screen and I cannot even get to dock to change anything. I'm already fed up with program and intend to delete the whole thing as soon as you tell me how I can regain control of my computer. Turning the computer off does no good because Firefox is right in my face when I turn it on again. Any e-mail to me is currently useless because I can not get to my old browser and Firefox is not completely installed. Call me at ''deleted by a moderator''

Did you install a persona?
You can uninstall your current Persona and revert to the Default theme (Tools > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

I was downloading add-on themes and apparently signed up for background program. it has taken over my computer and I want it off now.

I was adding themes from Firefox and signed up for the "background" program. It has put a slide show on my computer and I want it off NOW. How do I remove it because I don't even know how to get to it? It showed a wooden floor to start with and now it showing horrible pictures that I never picked out.

I received a pop up notice about computer virus check for my computer It had a MAc logo , so i pushed the icon to screen for viruses. Now it has taken over my computer and constantly switches me to gross sites while I am on line . How do I clean it up?

I am uploading an Excel Workbook (xlsx format) to convert to a pdf and it has taken over an hour and it is still not uploading. I have even tried to restart it and that did not work.

I'm trying to upload an Excel Workbook (in xlsx format) to have it converted to a PDF file and that little circle has been spinning forever. I tried to restart the process but it did the same thing. So I tried to open up each individual worksheet of the workbook and save them individually. I "think" I got that to work, but when I go to the combine tab, I see the four pages that I have selected with spinning "thinking" circles on all of them. Please help. I have a client waiting for this proposal and I don't know what to do!

Are you on a slow Network Connection? I would recommend you to Clear the browser Cache and History and then try again or try using a different browser on a different Network Connection.

Find a PDF file in the Finder, select it and go File > Get Info. Find the Open With section and change the application from Adobe Reader (?) to whatever other PDF viewing app you prefer (Safari.app?). Click on the button that activates in that section (Change All...) and say Yes to making every PDF open with the new option your choose.
In my opinion, viewing PDFs posted on websites in Safari is fine, but viewing PDFs downloaded or that reside on your iMac are better suited to being viewed using Adobe Reader (though you might not be used to what it does), or Preview. You should explore what they have to offer.

I recently updated Firefox and something called Fantistic Games has taken over my homepage and I can't get rid of it.

I used to get a field of 9 options to open when I opened a new page by clicking on the + button on the right side of the Search tab. After I updated Firefox a couple of days ago, my homepage had been taken over by something called "Fantasti Games". I can't find it anywhere to uninstall "Fantisti Games". I now have Google come up as my homepage when I open Mozilla Firefox, but each tab that I open comes up with the "FantastiGames" search engine. I need to get rid of that from my computer and revert back to what I had before, which was when I opened a new tab, I got nine large icons on the screen that gave me the choice of common sites to go to (such as AOL, YouTube, Weather.com, Google, etc.). Please tell me how to uninstall "FantastiGames".

This is embarrassing. It sounds like you have a third party program that has taken over your search engine, home page, and/or the default new tab page. Fortunately, this can be remedied easily:
# At the top of the Firefox window, click on the Firefox button (Tools menu in Windows XP), and then click Add-ons. The Add-ons Manager tab will open.
# In the Add-ons Manager tab, select the Extensions panel.
# Select the toolbar you wish to remove.
# Click the remove button.
# Click "Restart now" if it pops up. Your tabs will be saved and restored after the restart.
After Firefox restarts, install the [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/searchreset/ Search Reset Tool]. This will remove the rest of the traces of this program from your Firefox.

Firefox has taken over my computer to the extent that I can't get out of firefox back to my regular homepage and moreover I can't even log out or shut down.

When I try to log on as I have usually done I get a small window
stating that an error has occurred and when I click on what should solve the problem a larger white window appears stating

That file could be set as a Launch Agent or Daemon in your ~/Library or /Library, You could try to look for it or Safeboot your computer and then empty the trash. I've lost the menu bar and Ask has taken over the front page.

Something was down loaded yesterday and Ask Jeeves appears to have come with it. I can't get back to my orginal Firefox front page and have lost all my toolbars. I have uninstalled Ask but it is still there even though it has gone from my program list. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Mozilla four times but still Ask is at the front with everything else missing

Can I reset my search engine to Wikipedia? I don't want any of those default Search Engines anymore they are too intrusive. And I can not Empty Cache any more and Google has taken over the address bar?

I didn't say and was never asked If I wanted Mountain Lion. I can no longer 'Empty Cache' at the end of a session online and when I do a search now (and this has all changed overnight) the query is typed into what used to be the address bar and when the search results appear, after reading the first result and I want to read the second or fifth or Any of the other results of the query I am forced to resubmit the search in the address bar because the 'Page Back' button has been removed and the Little Red Dot closes the Search Results Page altogether.
What else am I in for with Mountain Lion? I already know that I do NOT want anything to do with iCloud. I am willing to bet a lot of money that a pharmaceutical company one day is going to be holding me for ransome with a new drug that was created out of the symptoms of a once - upon - a - time naturally occuring symptom of aging. Get a bootable, external HD (preferably FireWire, since it's 40-50% faster than USB 2 and designed for data transfers), make a bootable backup/clone before updating/upgrading, using something like Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper!, and ensure that it's bootable and works like the original.
