Cloud programs do not use serial numbers... you log in to your paid Cloud account to download & install & activate... you MAY need to log out of the Cloud and restart your computer and log back in to the Cloud for things to work

I just purchased a new Iphone 4s 64GB. I brought it to my carrier to have it activated. when I came home to register it with Apple, I noticed that the serial number on the box is different then the serial number on my Iphone. Why?

When you bought the iPhone, was the box sealed? Srink wrapped? If not then the iPhone may have been changed.
Have you tried to register the iPhone with Apple and does it come up clean, that is, not previously registered?

I haven't used my ipod for some time - my library content is stored on an external hard drive, which i also haven't used for some time. now that i have an ipad i wanted to sync everything but the external drive is broken. i have uploaded and updated all software for ipod/itunes onto my laptop but the programme is recognising that i have a library elsewhere and will only allow me to update from laptop to ipod (which would delete all my music). have a text convo with the person you want to delete. Go to the top contact in the text convo, hit edit contact, and delete that contact.
That resolution came from another thread on this issue, and this did solve to poster's issue.

We are fellow users here on these forums, you're not talking to iTunes Support nor Apple.
You need to follow, exactly, the instructions on that HT2534 page when creating an account (the instructions won't work with existing accounts) - I've just tried it and I got the 'none' option.
e.g. on my computer's iTunes I logged out of my existing account, found a free app in the store and clicked on its free 'price' :
I then clicked on 'create Apple id' on the popup :
Agreed to the terms, filled in my details, and got the 'none' option on the payments screen :
