I was cleaning my compaq presario sr2017cl cooling fan.

I put all info in subject line. I could not figure out how to copy & paste it into the body . i accendently pulled processer out of holder on motherboard. A8M2N-NL. Ichecked pins, they looked straight, i put it back in then reattached cooling fins & fan. When i plugged pwr cord in nothing comes on. Not even the pwr supply fan. Help

The PSU led should light up when the power cord is plugged in.  Most motherboards also have an LED to indicate standby power is active.  From what you have been saying, it's now time to go to a local repair shop.  Stay away from the Big Box stores, as their main interest is selling a new machine.  I do suspect your CPU chip has a broken off pin.
You have had a good 8 year run on that XP based machine.  You do know that XP is NON-support by Microsoft?

    Compaq, welcome to the forum.
Because of the age of the computer, I suspect a failed power supply unit (PSU).  Here is a guide to help you troubleshoot the problem:

  • Yosemite download issues related to cooling fan

I have spent over 10 hours on the phone with tech support, and 4 days attempting to resolve a download problem on my MBP.  After upgrading to Yosemite I attempted to update my primary software package for work and the download continues to stall during download.  Apple care told it was the Software's company's fault, the software company pointed me back to Apple.  Apple pointed me back to them and they pointed back to Apple - I just want what I have paid for to work as advertised.
Here is where I am at now:  I will begin the download and it will progress like normal, then the cooling fan comes on and the download with stop.  Several times the progress of the download, in percentage, actually shows to decrease - meaning it goes backwards somehow.  I cancel the download and restart the software the cooling fan stops, I restart the download and after a random amount of time the coolings fans start again and the download stalls.  I know that this sounds very unrelated but since I noticed this connection it has done it every time since and I have went through this process at least 12 times since first making the connection.
I have followed all of the steps from Apple's senior advisor in checking settings and troubleshooting.  She told me that it was the software's problem.  The software company tells me their servers are good and then shows me the mountain of reports from Yosemite users that are having similar issues.  Meanwhile I'm stuck with a $2500 dollar MBP and a $3000 software investment that I can't use for the purpose that I bought them.  When I told Apple care about the fan issue they inferred that I was crazy to think that the cooling fan could be connected - maybe I am.

It's not clear to me if this is an issue within the software package such as with a download feature within a particular software package or software distribution mechanism, or if this is something weird with OS X Yosemite that's causing a problem elsewhere that's effecting this download.
Who is the third-party vendor, and what is the package?  Is there a posting from the vendor pointing to the issue?
Has the third-party vendor plans to offer an alternative download path, which would seem reasonable for a case such as this with a "mountain of reports" involved?
Given your long discussion with the vendor and with Apple, have there been specific suggestions you've tried and found haven't worked?  Otherwise, we're just going to repeat some of those.
The cooling fan gets involved when something goes compute-bound or otherwise starts looping, either due to a design problem or due to a bug.  Adobe Flash Player tends to spool up the fans, for instance.

  • Compaq Presario model SR5710F hangs/freezes when cpu cooling fan switches to higher speed

Compaq Presario SR5710F with AMD Athlon X2 4450e dual core micro-processor - after the desktop has been on for a little while, I can hear the cpu cooling fan switch to a higher speed. As soon as the fan changes speed, the PC locks up. Power off/on is only option to recover. A precursory inspection did not reveal any noticeable build-up of dust/debris around case fan or cpu fan. Any suggestions?

    Hello DTCothren,
You state whenever your CPU fan goes to a higher speed the computer locks up, is that corret? I will try to assist you with this issue.
I would recommend you open up the hardware diagnostic tool on your computer, and run a full system test. This test does take some time so just allow it to run. If you not sure how to locate the program have a look at this document.

  • No audio in Windows Vista Home Basic - Compaq Presario c765TU

    Hi all,
A couple of days ago, my Compaq Presario c765TU lost audio while fastforwarding through a movie I was playing on VLC. The video was stored on an external hard drive. Tried playing music and video files stored on the laptop's local drive, still no sound.
Audio drivers and BIOS have been updated. Audio devices are listed as installed and working properly in the Device Manager.
Contemplating on doing a clean re-install of Windows Vista to see if that will work.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It's hard to know exactly which it is at this point.  It could be one of two things.  The speakers have failed or the jack detect pin located inside the headphone jack has failed.  A non-functional jack detection pin would cause the system to route audio to the headphone jack constantly instead of the internal speakers.
If you want to be absolutely certain it is not a software issue (corrupted registry possibly), you can try the system recovery making sure to backup your files.  I suspect this is a hardware issue, but it could very well be a corrupted registry causing the jack detection pin not to be read properly.

  • Compaq Presario cq50, power.

A while ago, I had a problem with my laptop, caused by several updates. Suddenly, it stopped working, (battery was ruined), and I thought the power cord was the problem. So I bought a new one (according to the specifications of the previous one). And effectively, it worked. Nevertheless, after a few minutes, it shut down, and the light located next to the power cord entrance was blinking. I tried to turn it on again, but it was no use. The next day, I turned it on again, worked, and after a while shut down.
I opened it, the fan was relatively clean, and everything looked normal.
    What do I do?
I could work without the battery before, so I do not think that's the problem.

    Hi @FermiEffect ,
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have looked into your issue about your Compaq Presario 50 and issues with your AC adapter. What are the specs of the adapter you installed?
Yours is 65-W  AC adapter and should not be a travel adapter.
Plug the power adapter directly into a functioning wall outlet. Do not plug it into a power strip, surge protector, or secondary power source as this could cause and issue.
Here is a link to troubleshoot the Ac adapter.
    Hope this helps.

  • Compaq presario cq61 DVD recognition

Greetings all. Compaq Presario Windows 7 The DVD burner won't recognize some of my DVDs including some of my backups. When I insert a disk, I either get nothing, like the disk isn't in the drive, or I get a message asking me if I want to format it. None of the disks in question are rewritable. DVD-R. HP DVD-R disks work, but other brands don't. RW disks work. Help!
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

You can try a DVD lens cleaner available at any store that sells DVDs. That is a longshot. If it reads some types of disks but not others that means a failure of one of the multiple lasers and the only fix for that is replacing the drive. The drive is easy to remove and replace and the part is not too expensive. Where do you live?

  • HP Compaq Presario 2500 circuit diagram or some constructive help

    Hello,
i have a Compaq Presario 2500 that has no power. The laptop is totally dead. Everything happened after disassembling
and thermal paste changing. Previously the laptop had some heating issues, since this laptop is pretty old and was never
opened and cleaned. I decided to disassemble it and perform a cleaning and thermal paste changement. The CPU was pulled out and sticking on the heatsink since the old compound was totally dried out and it literally glued it onto the heatsink. After reasembling laptop totally dead. After 10 minutes the battery charge led starts to lightning, but laptop will not turn on. I measured several points on the motherboard, and i was able to measure some voltage presence. Has somebody a circuit diagram ?
It is a rare motherboard that has no fuse near the DC Jack. I noticed only 2 fuses on the entire board.
F1 has a sign p10 and is near the switch board port located, the other one is placed more near the DC Jack and is white colored and has a sign 2, which is standing for 2A ? Or am i wrong ?
I don`t know further, has someone a suggestion or a circuit diagram ?
The laptop has no real value, and i will not invest into a new motherboard, so i hope i will get some advices from you guys in order to get this laptop to work. Btw i tried another CPU too, but the laptop has the same condition with no changements.
Here is the motherboard model :    DAKT9DMB6F1 KT9D

  • Power Loss During Bootup of Compaq Presario SR1234NX

My computer is a Compaq Presario SR1234NX running Windows XP Home. The problem is this - shortly after booting or even during booting I lose power to pretty much everything: keyboard, mouse, display. The power light stays on and fans continue to spin.
This is what I have tried:
    (a)  different power supply
    (b)  different RAM
    (c)  unplugged internal HD and tried booting with a Linux LiveCD
I was able to reinstall Windows XP Home (which took several reboots due to the power issues). I've come to the conclusion that it is the motherboard.
Any help, comments or advice would be welcome.

    Hi,
You have already tried a lot of things that could cause issues as you have stated.
Try a different electrical outlet and don't use a power strip.
Unplug the PC and open it up. Clean out all the dust.  You might want to buy a can of compressed air to blow the dust out of the CPU heat sink.   Remove any PCI cards and unplug any extra USB devices.  Plug your PC back in and give it a go.

  • Compaq Presario 2135US Reboots For No Reason

I have an old Compaq Presario 2135US notebook (purchased 6/2003).  It has XP Home Edition SP 3 and lots of software.  It has a 30 GB hard drive with 5 GB free space.  I have replaced the battery and added the maximum memory (1 GB of shared memory).  Lately it has been rebooting about 1 to 2 minutes after startup.  There is no blue screen, no you shutdown improperly screen and it reboots cleanly to the log on page.  So far this reboot happens only once each time I use the computer.  It normally happens when I am not actually using the computer.  There is noise associated with the reboot.  It sounds like a switch opening or an electrical arc.  The noise is very short and the computer reboots and operates OK thereafter.  This noise and reboot happens randomly maybe 1 in 5 times I use the computer.  I was considering giving it to one of my grandchildren.  There are lots of pictures and documents on the disk that if removed would give a reasonable free space on the disk.
Does anyone know what the problem might be.
Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.
    Bob_in_PGI

It may be overheating. If you put a fan pad (one or more fans in a pad powered through USB ports) underneath it that might help.  You could also try to put a vacuum hose near the fan and exhaust areas and see if you can get out any dust.

  • Fan issue - Compaq Presario CQ56-106SA

    Product : Compaq Presario CQ56-106SA
OS : Windows 7 Home Premium
    Issue: Fan error (90b)
    Greetings all ,
First off I am very familiar with computer systems and component as I work on them fairly regularly however I am currently unsure to what I should do from this point.
I got the notebook laptop as a present a few years ago and its seen better days however I recenty decided to use it again however when I started the laptop I got the fan error (90b) so I took a look at the fan and it wasnt spining hense the error , so I checked the  HP support site and looked at the error and also did a google search to see if anyone else had fixed it.
So I opened the laptop up (since it was out of warranty anyways) and I got to the fan and removed the heatsink and fan component and I opened that up and there was a buildup of dust obviously needless to say i cleaned it up and put the component back together and placed it back in and ensured everything was connected correctly and started up the computer however the fan still isnt spining and I still keep the getting the error.
So my question is , If I took out the component is there a way of testing to see if there is any fault with the fan itself? (eg. putting a small amount of power through it to see if the fan spins?)
Or should I just replace the fan and heatsink component completely and hope that the issue doesnt persist?
Any help would be appreciated , just to have someone elses opinion?

    Hi
As you have mentioned that the Fan is not spinning the issue is with Fan & also replacing the heatsink apply terminal paste and that should take care of the issue. I have also seen sometimes issue might be with the Systemboard connector which is bad might cause this issue.
This is very difficult to guess
Let us know how it goes!

  • Compaq Presario Reboot Loop

I have a dinosaur Compaq Presario 6320us that I've been trying to repair for a year now. When you press the power button it powers on, shows the Compaq logo, screen goes blank. I tried getting help on Tech Support Guy forums, and the replier said to take off the heatsink and put new thermal compound on it and the cpu. I did that and the cpu fried (and it was either because the thermal compound I bought stinks or I do). So a few months later I took a good cpu and cooler from another presario and put it in the broken one. I also replaced the PSU with another compatible one because when I opened the original one a bunch of the capacitors had exploded. After I had put the computer back together, I booted it up, and it worked perfectly! So I shut it down to eat dinner and rested for a little while. I was awoken by fan noise; the computer had turned itself on and was in its rebbot loop, only this time no video. The RAM is ok, the hard drive is ok, the CPU and cooling were ok, the PSU was ok, and I've already tried resetting the BIOS, doing the take-out-the-hardware-and-boot-the-computer-up procedure, and reseating components. I've tried using HP Support, and it doesn't help anything. Anyone know what's going on?
    This question was solved.

I wouldn't even consider guessing as to which component it could be. The motherboard is full of components that could cause that.
It would be better to take it to a shop or just replace the PC with a newer one.

  • Compaq presario co50-210us - failure to startup

We have a Compaq Presario CO50-210US Laptop, yesterday the screen began to dim, and access to programming or the internet became slow. Eventually the screen went dark, and the computer shut off.  Since then, any attempt to power-up the computer results in the 3 FRONT lights flashing 3 times and then nothing.  Power supply is correctly attached and plugged in, and a hard reset did not help, and I cannot think of any other options.  I recently used can air and blew out the dust from all the openings I could find including removing the access panels for the hard drive and memory modules. This computer has a history of getting so hot that it has shut down in the past, and not re-start until cooled down, (half-hour or more), even though it sits on a cooling pad at all times.
Any suggestions on what to do next? And what the blink code means?  Any help will be welcome.
    Solution:
Apparently, the three flashing lights mean "The Wall Charger is DEAD, and the Battery is Drained".  Purchased and plugged in a new Charger, and the computer runs like before.
