I was going to buy an iPhone, but...
Now I'm hearing all this stuff about TONS of problems, it's getting me a little worried about spending 400 dollars and not getting a stable phone.
Almost every thread on this forum is about an issue with the phone.
Does it really have all these problems?
No one in this thread has jumped on the OP. A statement was made and a question asked which was "aptly" answered.
This is not an open discussions forum for any and everything as one sees fit regardless the title. Per the ToU for these Discussions, a post should be a technical support question or a technical support answer with "constructive" feedback welcome which many people here without a clue about what "constructive" means or how to go about providing it.
Since each and every post here is not read by a Discussions Host or Moderator or by any Apple employee, the more appropriate avenue for providing Apple "constructive" feedback or otherwise is via the Feedback link.
Do you have a technical support answer or any answer for the OP that applies or just want to jump on those who volunteer their time here to help others?

If the receipt says "unlocked" (and not "SIM free") then it will work anywhere in the world that there is a GSM network. However, if it ever needs repair you will have to take it back to France.

Go buy yourself a iPhone 5. Sync your iPhone 3GS to iTunes on you computer so you have a back up ready to put on the iPhone 5. If you want you can update your iPhone 3GS with iTunes on your computer, but this is not necessary.

The warranty for the iPhone is not and has never been International.
Warranty and support are ONLY valid in the country of origin. The only exception is the EU where the entire EU is treated as one country.
If the device will be used in India, buy it in India.
An unlocked iPhone will work on any supported GSM carrier world wide. The LTE portion of a US purchased, unlocked iPhone is unlikely to work outside North America as it does not support the appropriate bands used in other countries. -

Hold Sleep Button with Home Button toghether until it restarts Always it takes 8 to 15 seconds, after it restarts leave the sleep button and remember do not leave the home button it automaticlly switches to DFU mode.

If the phone is locked to a carrier then you will need the carrier to unlock it And only the carrier can do that.

If you still have access to your old email address, go to https//appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your iCloud ID. Tap edit next to the primary email account, tap Edit, change it back to your old email account and verify it. Then edit the name of the account to change it back to your old email address. You can now use your current password to turn off Find My iPhone on your device. Then go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud). Next, go back to https//appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address and iCloud ID name back to the way it was. You can now go to Settings>iCloud and sign in with your correct iCloud ID and password.
If you don't have access to your old email address, you will have to contact Apple to have them reset the password so you can disable Find My iPhone and sign into your iCloud account. It sounds like the Cloud managed to work its way into your system and take over the CS6 applications. If you are happy with CS6 and don't want to afford the Cloud your license is likely as good as ever. You just need to get the Cloud's claws out of your system.

Aside: I was trying to update one of my CS6 applications thru the Application Manager last week and I decided afterwards I would try to update the manager since it seemed to get stuck. I clicked a prompt without reading closely, turned away and returned to find the Application Manager was replaced with the Cloud Manager... which I guess is the latest update for it. A similar thing happened on my previous machine and I was not happy with it because my other machine was not spec'd for the Cloud and it ended up resetting all my preferences. So this time I immediately uninstalled it and decided I can live without it. If I need any updates I'll look for them myself. -

Depends on your screen resolution. System Preferences/ Display you will see the different screen support resolutions. Does it support 1980x1080? That is what HD resolution is. That being said on a screen as small as a MacBook Air you won't see any difference and if you are connecting to a monitor the display output is:

You'll have to put your iPhone in Recovery Mode.
Recovery mode
If you've never synced your device with iTunes, or haven't set up Find My iPhone, you'll need to put your device in recovery mode. Then you'll restore your device as new or from a backup.
This will erase the device and its passcode.
Disconnect all cables from your device.
Hold down the Sleep/Wake button, then "slide to power off" to turn off your device.
Press and hold the Home button and plug the device into your computer. If your device doesn't turn on automatically, turn it on. Don't release the Home button.
Continue holding the Home button until you see the Connect to iTunes screen.
If iTunes doesn't open automatically, open it. iTunes will alert you that it has detected a device in recovery mode.
Click OK. Then restore the device.
If your device doesn't go into recovery mode, try steps 1–4 again. -
So I was going to buy a 3G phone but...
I get a phone home, and there is NO 3G, although it works on the street fine and also have WIFI, but when I turn to 3G I get no BARS, when I turn it OFF (3G) I get full strentgth.
So what gives, why would it work on the street and not 200feet away? Could low battery do it?
Then again, NON 3G=full bars.

Many, even after years and years of being around, don't know the difference between megabyte and megebit (which is what service providers sell their packages at) and are mislead thinking 1.5Meg service means 1.5 megabyte when in fact it means 150K per second......
The fastest you can get in this country today is 30M service, or 3 megabyte per second, only in Boston that I know of.
SO it seems that this replier does not know what he is talking about and I don't mean to flame him but if I have to give a class on speeds and how they are marketed and so on, so be it.
I also discovered that the iPhone speeds are GLOBAL and that other phones DO NOT have problems so its the phone, not the service provider and I am speculating that the antenna is either faulty, or tuned down for longer battery life. That said, I was in the Apple store and played with a ATT phone (older iphone) and it was faster than the newer iPhone and this was an ATT phone (who is a friend of mine), so maybe he tweaked his out, I will be talking to him and will report back on this as this is an EPIC problem that seems to be global. Apple will not be able to sit and do nothing about this, the repercussions are to huge, google iphone 3g slow speed woes and you will see story after story, hopefully, this can be fixed on the next batch of phones, regardless of battery life, I am thinking you are going to need 2 batteries to get though a day and the phone is going to have to be self replaceable. Note the screws this time.
