I was halfway thru updating ipod touch software, got error 1602

I was halfway thru updating ipod touch software, i walked away from computer and when i came back there was an error "1602" and a picture on my ipod (requesting to connect to itunes?) but WILL NOT WORK AT ALL!
What's going on?  Seems like a lot of people are having similar problems all at the same time.

From the article cited at the end of my post:
Error 1602: Try the following steps to resolve this error:
Ensure proper USB isolation troubleshooting has been performed, and test with a known-good cable.
Follow the steps listed for Error 1604.
This error may be resolved by disabling, deactivating, or uninstalling third-party security, antivirus, and firewall software. See steps in this article for details on troubleshooting security software.
Error 1603: If you receive this error and the iOS device is not automatically placed into recovery mode, it may be necessary to do so manually. Refer to iPhone and iPod touch: Unable to restore for steps on placing iPhone into forced recovery mode. Also, remove the IPSW and attempt to restore again. If you do not want to remove the IPSW in the original user, try restoring in a new administrator user.
Error 1604: This error is often related to USB timing. Try changing USB ports, uninstalling and reinstalling USB ports, and other available USB troubleshooting steps (troubleshooting USB connections, device not recognized properly, computer won't recognize a FireWire or USB device). If you are using a dock, bypass it and connect directly to the USB 30-pin dock-connector cable. If the issue persists on a known-good computer, the device may need service.

  • Help with updating Ipod Touch software

So about a week or 2 ago I downloaded the newest version of iTunes because when I went to update the software on my Ipod Touch it said I needed the newest version of iTunes. So when I did that it said my software was up to date (even though it wasn't) and it said to check back for the next update on 10/31/10. So just a few minutes ago I opened up iTunes, plugged in my Ipod Touch, and again it said my software was up to date and now it says to check back on November 7th. Now my Ipod Touch is on 2.2.1 software and I want to get it to the newest software but Itunes won't let me do this. Does anybody possibly know why iTunes is doing this and how to fix it?

It says that it will automatically check for updates on those dates. You can check whenever you like.
Only 2nd gen and later can get the newest upgrade.
You can purchase 3.1 for the 1st gen ipod touch:

  • Itunes wont update ipod touch software 3.1.3

I have a 2nd generation iPod Touch running software version 2.1.2.
I want to buy the new 3.1.3 software via iTunes. When I connect the iPod Touch to my PC and click on the device name in iTunes, I'm given option of updating to version 3.1.3. But when I click "Update" I get an alert window repeating the fact that new software is available, and asking if I want more information from the iTunes Store. When I then click "Learn More" (which is the only option other than "Cancel"), iTunes simply reloads the same status screen.
I've also tried to buy the software update by accessing the iTunes Store via iTunes, but there is no apparent link to do so.
I've also found Apple's link on the web(http://www.apple.com/ipodtouch/softwareupdate.html) to buy version 3.0, but clicking the link simply switches me to my iTunes application, and i repeat the same loop from above.
Any help on this would be appreciated.

Well, if your iPod Touch is newer that a first generation device, they you can get iOS 4.2.1. If you have a first generation device, OS v3.1.3 is the newest you can get.
Also, as best as I can remember, iPod Touch os 3.2 was never released. the iPad shipped with OS v3.2 but the iPod Touch went from 3.1.3 to iOS 4.0 (or maybe it was 4.01)

  • Updating iPod Touch Software Version and Apps saved game data

When I transfer my apps from iPod touch to iTunes will it also moved the saved game data like in Zombie Cafe, Amateur  Surgeon 2 so on and so fort? Because I want to update my software version...

No.  Transferring the app to the computer only transfers the app itself. not app data.  App dat is stored in the iPod backup that iTunes makes as the first step of the a sync and of an update.  Therefore, I would do one last sync of the iPod before restoring and ensure that the backup gets made.  You can check by going to the Devices tab in iTunes' Preferences and looking at the date of the backup.  Also, make sure your apps are in your iTunes library since the apps themselves are not in the backup but are synced to the iPod at the end of the update.

    Maybe:

Troubleshoot your USB connection. If the issue persists, out-of-date or incorrectly configured third-party security software may be causing this issue. Please follow Troubleshooting security software issues. .

  • HT1222 update ipod touch software on a different computer

My internet connection is slow. Can I upgrade my ipod touch on a different computer that I don't normally connect to?

Plug it in and sync it.  it will erase the current content and replace with content of the new computer.
You need to copy everything from the old computer, or your backup copy of the old computer, to the new one.

This error is often related to USB timing. Try changing USB ports, using a different Dock Connector or Lightning Connector to USB cable, and other available USB troubleshooting steps. If you're using a dock, bypass it and connect directly to the white Apple USB dock connector cable. If the issue persists on a known-good computer, the device may need service.
If the issue isn't resolved by USB isolation troubleshooting and another computer isn't available, try these steps to resolve the issue:
    Connect the device to iTunes.
Confirm that the device is in Recovery Mode. If it's not in Recovery Mode, put it into Recovery Mode.
Restore and wait for the error.
    When prompted, click OK.
Close and reopen iTunes while the device remains connected.

  • Do not update IPOD Touch Software!!!!!!!!

I have used the software updat and has mucked my IPOD up, the first time I did it, it failed saying 'The ipod "DavesIpod" could not be updated. An unknown error occurred (1602)
So I had to do a restore & update, this did not help
    It fails everytime
I am running Vista Utimate and I have even tried to run both itunes helper and itunes as admin (Run as adminstrator)
The new error is The ipod "ipod" could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (6)
    Please help
If I cant fix it I will take it back and want a exchange. Which I would want a 38 week and 16GB instead of 8GB

Just finished a 40 minute restore to my touch after installing the update. Is this what we can expect from now on each time Apple tries to stay ahead of the application hackers?
For crying out loud, they put OS X on here, so is it too much to ask for them to provide apps to use with it? If individual developers can create programs for the touch/iphone so fast, is it unreasonable to ask apple to do the same so we don't have to go around them?
heck charge me for apps, I will pay for them. Would rather spend my money on small apps rather than spend my time restoring!

  • Updated iPod Touch Software And Its Crazy!

    Hi guys,
just purchased the latest software update for my 1G Touch. Now my perfectt player is kinda ruined. Firstly I can't play most of my video clips as I get an "cannot play video file" error. Another bug is my playlists. For some strange reasons my playlists like "Recently Added" doesnt show up in the player even when it pop ups when I connect to iTunes. What do I do?

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

  • Why is update iPod Touch software is taking hours

The download took over an hour, but that could easily be a slow connection.  Once it got to the update, iTunes displayed a progress bar which stopped at about 50% and the iPod displayed a progress bar which stopped at about 20%.  It has been this way for a couple of hours.  Why?  What can I do to correct this?

You shouldn't have any major problems after an upgrade. 3.x firmware introduced some new features so some things you were used to will operate differently. WiFi may act differently but any problems you see are pretty easy to fix (usually caused by dated router firmware).
The worst that can go wrong is a unresponsive iPod. So don't do anything to interrupt the process once it starts. Shut down unneeded apps so you have lots of ram and let the upgrade do it's thing.
The reason you need to shut down your anti-virus is that it could interfere with the download of the firmware image. The reason you need to shut down your firewall is that the firmware update needs to contact the Apple servers during the upgrade.

  • Update ipod touch software

I have tried to update my ipod to the newer softwere counless times and it wont work.

Please verify your model number on the back. If it is A1288, it is a 2nd gen unit and can not be upgraded beyond 4.2.1

  • What do i do after downloading iOS 3.1 software and "There was a problem downloading iOS 3.1.1 software update for ipod touch. an unknown error occurred (8288). Please check that the connection to the network is active and try again." comes up?

what do i do after downloading iOS 3.1 software and "There was a problem downloading iOS 3.1.1 software update for ipod touch. an unknown error occurred (8288). Please check that the connection to the network is active and try again." comes up?

Hello, I hope by now you have resolved the upgrade issue, but if not, here is what I ended up having to do:
“SUCCESS!!! I took my iPod to a friend who is a computer programmer/genius. He turned off his wireless, hooked the ethernet cable directly into his computer, and the download went through without a hitch. YAY!”
Here is my original post explaining what I had already tried:
    “Hi all,
I got an iPod Touch 1st gen for my youngest son for Christmas as a starter. It has the 2.1.2 ios on it, but after I paid for the upgrade to 3.1.1, I keep getting an error message (8288) saying there was a problem with the network connection. I have called customer service, and they suggested I try on a different computer, and if that didn't work, try connecting to a different network, and then trying the update. None of this has worked. It seems that tech support is clueless with this issue.
I have installed and unistalled iTunes 10.5, 10.3, 10.4, and now I am back with 10.5. I have tried looking up the issue from several search engines but no one seems to have a universal solution and I have tried several.
I really want to have this thing updated for himw hwne he opens it, but I am starting to worry that my purchase was a bust. I know this is the oldest version, but I don't want to buy a newer, more expensive iPod and him still not be mature enough to really take care of it. As I said, this one is a starter.
    Can anyone help? Please?!
    Thank you!!!
P.S. We have a PC, with Windows XP Home.”
Now, there seem to be a lot of different ways to solve the 8288 error, none of which are universal. Best of luck getting yours upgraded!
    Tiffany
P.S. The post by Sparkhi is a link to his blog going into a long story about how he wanted Apple to pay him for “solving” the issue….the one that apparently has been solved by multiple solutions. I’m not trying to bash, it just bothers me that he put up this whole story and finally, at the very end of his blog post, posts his solution.

hi , i cant update mi ipod touch software, a soon as the download process in finished an error message appears :" session time has expired" something like that

Disabling the computer's security software during the download and update usually resolves a network timeout error.

If you have the first gen ipod touch as your information shows, then you would have to buy a software update:
