I was messing around with .kext files in the MacintoshHD and now my MacBook Pro won't start up.

I was messing around with .kext files in the MacintoshHD and moved the system.kext and two others to my desktop and deleted the originals and now the MacBook Pro won't start up. All I get at start up is the apple icon then a bunch of text shows up part of which says Mac OS version: not yet set. then the apple icon turns into the power icon and tells me to turn off the computer. I've tried reinstalling from the install DVD by holding down option when powering on and selecting the install DVD and it just goes to a white screen with the apple icon and stays like that. I didn't have the disk utility on my Mac before this happened because I deleted it to make room on my computer a while ago so I'm not sure if that's why it won't load the install DVD but anyone who knows the solution to this with out going to get it repaired would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Never mind my dad just found the original install DVD and that worked. Before I was using an install disc that Apple sent me for another issue I was having, but thanks for replying so quickly and trying to help on this Thanksgiving day!!!

  • I was installing mountain lion and now my macbook pro won't start up

    I was installing Mountain Lion and i restarted my computer and now it won't boot up.

    Reinstalling Lion/Mountain Lion Without Erasing the Drive
    Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
    When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
    Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Continue button.
    Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

    Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
    How to Clean Install OS X Yosemite
    OS X Mavericks- Erase and reinstall OS X
    OS X Mountain Lion- Erase and reinstall OS X
    OS X Lion- Erase and reinstall Mac OS X

  • I was messing around with my new knowlage of OOP and...

    ...well, the whole program works in its confusing web-like self, but I was trying to run a for loop on methodcount(), and make it count from the JavaIsAwsome class, when I run it, everything counts and works fine, EXCEPT the JavaIsAwsome methodcount() thing.
    Yes this program is pointless, but it's helping me learn OOP. :)
    public class OOP{
         public static void main(String [] args){
              class HelloOOP{
                   int oopint = 27700;
              HelloOOP hop = new HelloOOP();
              SomeVars sv = new SomeVars();
              JavaIsAwsome jia = new JavaIsAwsome();
              System.out.println(hop.oopint);
              System.out.println(jia.dude);
              System.out.println("Old : "+sv.methodvar);
              for(int x = 0; x < 100; x++){
                   sv.methodcount();
              System.out.println("New Main : "+sv.methodvar);
              jia.counter();
              System.out.println(jia.counted);
              System.out.println("New Main Count : "+jia.mcount);
              System.out.println(sv.methodvar);
    class SomeVars{
         int time;
         int methodvar = 10;
         void methodcount(){
              methodvar++;
    class JavaIsAwsome{
         SomeVars sv = new SomeVars();
         String dude = "Objects Rock!";
         int counted;
         int mcount = sv.methodvar;
         void counter(){
              for(sv.time = 0; sv.time < 27700; sv.time++){
                   counted++;
                   mcount++;
                   sv.methodcount();
    }

    Why do you say it doesn't work? I believe it does what the code your wrote tells it to do. I am guessing that you think the methodvar in the SomeVars class should reflect the combination of JavaIsAwesome.counter() method and the methodcount() call from the main method of OOP.
    If that's what you don't understand, then considerr that methodvar is an instance variable. The means that each instance of SomeVars has its own copy of a variable named methodvar. So the new SomeVars() in the main method references a different instance of SomeVars compared to the new SomeVars() in the JavaIsAwesome class. Since these are different, changes you make to one do not impact the other.
    If you want to share the methodvar between all instances of a class, declare the variable to be static - which in java means belonging to the class.

  • Hi, I just had a session with an apple support staff and now my Macbook Air won't start up. What shall I do?

    I contacted Apple support because I couldn't download apps on iTunes.
    I got called back by Apple who redirected me to a technician.
    The technician had access to my macbook air screen and via her directing me on the screen and via telephone she had me remove a bunch of stuff from my computer.
    After that it seemed initially that the iTunes problem was fixed because the iTunes box showed that it was downloading the app. But it just said it was dowloading it but there really wasn't any progress visible.
    So I decided to restart the computer but it would never start back up.
    I scheduled an appointment at the Genius bar closest to me for tomorrow.
    Is there anything else I can do/try?

    Since I do not know what she had you remove it will be hard to say what exactly to do. If your  original problem was automatic downloads here is what apple says.https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT202180 First i would try a pram reset. Command/Option/P/R keys at startup for three chimes. Then if no startup Go to recovery. Command R or Option R at startup. Then use the utility option and check /repair startup volume and also permissions. If still no response you might have to use recovery to reinstall your operating system. You should have your files backup up even though a reinstall does not normally delete personal files.

    Restore them from the backup of your hard drive you made prior to "messing around with iTunes".

    I suspect you have a 2G iPod. Those can only go to iOS 4.2.1.
    Identifying iPod models
    iPod touch (3rd generation)
    iPod touch (3rd generation) features a 3.5-inch (diagonal) widescreen multi-touch display and 32 GB or 64 GB flash drive. You can browse the web with Safari and watch YouTube videos with Wi-Fi. You can also search, preview, and buy songs from the iTunes Wi-Fi Music Store on iPod touch.
    The iPod touch (3rd generation) can be distinguished from iPod touch (2nd generation) by looking at the back of the device. In the text below the engraving, look for the model number. iPod touch (2nd generation) is model A1288, and iPod touch (3rd generation) is model A1318.
    You also said: "It also will not let me download any music onto it." What happens when you try to sync music to the iPod?

    This is a potentially complex issue.
    Is this SUP configured to run as IOS native or CatOS Hybrid?
    While in ROMMON can you do the 'dev' command and see whad drives are recognized. Then 'dir' the drives that the SUP recognizes.
    Can you provide the screen captures as it boots?
    You would be bette served by hacing a TAC case.

  • MacBook Pro won't start at all - clicking noise with black screen

    Early 2011 MacBook Pro won't start: makes clicking noise after power button is held down, but no screen movement and after click, sounds like computer just stops working. Already did a SMC reset, and undid battery to try to run on charger power only. Same result every time. Also, my Apple Care expired 3 days ago. A few weeks ago had to repair a disk using Disk Utility because there was a discrepancy between how much storage was in the drive versus how much was actually being used.

    You likely have the problem that many of us 15" and 17" 2011 models are having: a faulty soldering GPU and as discussed here -> https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4766577?tstart=0. It usually, but not always, beings with screen glitches and then gets to the point where the machine will simply not boot.
    It's  ashamed that you're not longer under AppleCare which would have, at least, got you a new logic board. A new logic board, however, doesn't usually fix the situation - only a BGA Reballing of the GPU seems to have long-lasting fixes.
    Read through a few the articles (not all of them!) and make the decision yourself - and then make the decision about whom your going to contact.
    Good luck,
    Clinton

    Reinstall OS X:
    Reinstall Snow Leopard without erasing the drive
    Do the following:
    1. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
    Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
    If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    2. Reinstall Snow Leopard
    If the drive is OK then quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed with reinstalling OS X.  Note that the Snow Leopard installer will not erase your drive or disturb your files.  After installing a fresh copy of OS X the installer will move your Home folder, third-party applications, support items, and network preferences into the newly installed system.
    Download and install the Combo Updater for the version you prefer from support.apple.com/downloads/.

    Reinstall Lion: Select Reinstall Lion and click on the Continue button.
    Note: You can also re-download the Lion installer by opening the App Store application. Hold down the OPTION key and click on the Purchases icon in the toolbar. You should now see an active Install button to the right of your Lion purchase entry. There are situations in which this will not work. For example, if you are already booted into the Lion you originally purchased with your Apple ID or if an instance of the Lion installer is located anywhere on your computer.
