I was met with a bogus Welcome Screen during account log in.

The font wasn't right, the mouse was very sluggish and the log in window just repeated itself in between an all blue screen flash.  Finally, I rebooted from the front panel switch on my Mac Pro tower.  Every thing worked normally after that.  I have the feeling someone besides me is using my computer remotely, for ill purposes, I'm sure.
I have two Macs and one recent Acer Notebook I added to my network.  Windows 7 makes me want to scream since it's so counter-intuitive and that may have opened the door to something sinister.  I have no clue what to do about it.
I'd upgrade to the latest operating system to cure it, but then my Adobe Master Suite collection might not work.
Suggestions anyone?

Run an anti-virus on your Windows partition, as well as making shure any sharing functions, on both sides are shut off.  Run firewall on both sides as well.

Sounds like you may have deleted something you shouldn't have. Boot to an OS X DVD or a bootable backup, and using Disk Utility, do a repair disk, and while there repair permissions. Disconnect any peripherals, and reboot. If you get the same startup behavior, do a safe boot, by holding the shift key down when booting. If that works, try a normal boot. If neither step helps, you may need to relaod your operating system.

  • Scripting text into a portfolio's welcome screen during batch

    Hello,
I'm curious to find out if theres a way to insert text into a PDF Portfolio's welcome screen during a batch process with a script? I'd like to not do it individually for several hundred documents if possible.

    Thanks,
and to clarify I meant that I am looking to script text into a portfolio's welcome screen text field. A bit of a critical oversight on my behalf.

  • Welcome Screen Woes

The basic issue: Dreamweaver/Flash hangs indefinitely at the
welcome screen after being opened and cannot be used/ must be
forced quit. I can’t click anything and certainly can use the
    program.
    My System:
    Intel Mac Pro
    Two 2.66 Ghz Intel Processors
    2 GB Ram
ATI X1900 Card with 512 MB Memory
    Internet Connection
    Operating System: Mac OSX 10.4.9
    How to produce the problem:
    1. Ensure internet connection is enabled.
    2. Open Dreamweaver
Results: Upon opening, Dreamweaver/Flash hangs indefinitely
at the welcome screen. All menus and tool bars load, but the
welcome screen displays a blank box at which point the cursor
spins, the program freezes and must be forced quit.
Normally the welcome screen should load quickly and display
the various document options as well as a link to adobe. (Assuming
an internet connection is available. If not, a static graphic
should be displayed in the lower right corner.) After extensive
trouble shooting I narrowed the problem down to the internet
connection. Without an internet connection (Ethernet cable
unplugged) the welcome screen loaded promptly and didn’t hang
however the link normally provided in the lower right hand corner
was missing since there was no internet available. The program then
    ran normally.
When the internet was connected, the program would load up to
the welcome screen and then hang without displaying any options. No
menus were available and nothing could be done in the program. The
only solution at this point was to force quit.
I spoke with a tech support agent and worked through the
majority of the steps outlined here (
    http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/knowledgebase/index.cfm?id=kb401096)
to no avail. As far as I can tell, the issue is caused by the
welcome screen failing to access the internet content necessary to
load. I was able to disable the welcome screen by disconnecting the
internet, opening Dreamweaver/Flash, disabling it via the options,
and then reconnecting the internet. However, this of course
prevents the use of the welcome screen, a feature I find useful.
Notes: The welcome screen for Illustrator and InDesign load
flawlessly and quickly and are not affected by the internet
    connection.
Has anyone else experienced this? Adobe’s tech agent
told me it might be an issue with my internet, but I doubt that is
the case. I have submitted a bug report to adobe, but was curious
if anyone else had found a solution or had any idea why this is
happening. Why can Illustrator and InDesign load the web links and
    not Flash and Dreamweaver.
I know the welcome screen is hardly a “necessary”
feature, but considering the price one pays for this software, it
would be nice if it worked.

I had this problem with both Photoshop and Illustrator. After several tries, I spoke with someone in Adobe tech Support who said it was a KNOWN ISSUE with the welcome screen and then took control of my computer, removed some files and now everything is fine. You have to talk to two different department, one for Illustrator and one for Photoshop for the fix. 6 phone calls and a total of about that many hours dealing with this BS. Epic, epic fail, Adobe.
The one thing I know for sure now, the Adobe staffers who work on these forums don't know what they're talking about.

It's not a great workaround at all. In fact, I am still
trying to find a better and more feasible solution since we have a
few computers on the home network and connecting directly to the
internet prevents any of those machines from using the web since
    you loose the router.
I called the apple store and they said they use Airport
Extremes and do not have any issues with the welcome pages on their
machines. Unfortunately, I purchased an airport extreme
(haven’t set it up yet) hoping it would work, but it sounds
like you are having the same issue. I agree that adobe should
acknowledge the problem and I too have run into the limited scope
of the tech support. As you said, they provide support based on the
specific applications and don’t seem to address cross suite
issues. I am still waiting on a call from a Level 2 tech who will
hopefully be more helpful and move beyond the basic steps.
    (Trashing pref files etc.)
It's very odd the older router works, but my guess is some of
the newer security features are causing the issue. I placed my
computer in the DMZ, which seemed to work, but the welcome screens
took a good 5-10 seconds to load and the program would hang during
    that time.
Out of curiousity, who is your Internet Provider? I am using
    Verizon FioS.

  • Welcome Screen Freezes Mac 10.7.5

I downloaded the latest update to PS2014 CC a little bit ago and when I launched it it froze similar to the way Illustrator and In Design did several months ago.
With that prob I had to go to the app's icon, right click and choose "show package contents". From there I had to delete a file but have forgotten what and where it was.
Is anyone else experiencing same prob or know how to delete the conflicting file?
    Thanks, Tony
    Mac Pro (2006) 2 x 2.66 Dual-Core, 8GB 667 MHz DDR2

    Gautam,
I am having the same issues with both Photoshop  and Illustrator.
The Adobe rep helped me install the older version of Photoshop but now having the same issue with Illustrator.
Reverting to the older version is only a temporary fix and does not really seem to be the very best answer, can you offer a better solution that allows the end user to have the latest software and do away with the useless "Welcome" screen?
Yankee has the very same issue I am having. Changing up the preferences file does nothing to help. Need to delete or rename the specific file related to the welcome screen, can you offer help?
    Thanks in advance.

  • Panther: Keep Laptop Awake at Welcome Screen

I have an old iBook G4 running Panther that I'd like to use as a file and print server. For security's sake, I'm leaving the computer at the Welcome Screen rather than logging in as a user.
The problem I'm facing is that the computer will go to sleep after 10-15 minutes, at which point I can't connect to it. How do I keep it awake (i.e. change the Energy settings for the Welcome Screen)?
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    -Nate

Maybe for some security, you may consider looking into a
product such as Apple Remote Desktop (client/server?)
and depending on what computer versions and OS X each
has, you may have to do some reading to know how it works.
    • Apple Remote Desktop - Support:
    http://www.apple.com/support/remotedesktop/
While ARD has been around since 2002, and prior technology
before that was used to remote interconnect Macs, there may
be some information regarding how to run older Macs from a
newer one, or if they could be accessed the other way around.
There are third-party software options in this area, but I am
not certain what their names are, or the costs involved.
    As to the issue about having a port open to the internet at large;
that may be an issue if it leaves security matters at risk. And I
do not know enough about that to recommend specific actions.
Hopefully someone with a greater understanding of how that
works and details on how to secure it, will answer your question.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Turn Off New Welcome Screen

  • On Macbook pro how do I reset my premiere elements 12 welcome screen back as it was to ask if existing or new project.

Hi there, on my macbook pro, can anyone tell me please how I can reset the welcome screen in Premiere Elements 12 back to how it was, were it asks to open an existing project or a new one. I made the mistake of changing the settings to open Premiere Elements editor by default but now it opens straight into a new project each time. Many thanks.

    alanathome
I am strictly an Elements Windows user, but I think I am on common ground with this response. Please check it out.
Resetting of the Welcome Screen is done using the icon to which the arrow points in the screenshot.
If you cannot get to the Welcome Screen due to a prior set, then in the Open project, if you have a Window Menu, go to Window Menu/Welcome Screen.
Please let us know if that worked for you.
    Thanks.

Hi , and a warm welcome to the forums!
Could be many things, we should start with this...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair Disk, (not Repair Permissions). Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
If perchance you can't find your install Disc, at least try it from the Safe Boot part onward.
    If 10.7.0 or later...
Bootup holding CMD+r, or the Option/alt key to boot from the Restore partition & use Disk Utility from there to Repair the Disk, then Repair Permissions.
And sorry to report that OSX is more Widows like than ever, but….
If that doesn't help Reinstall the OS.
