If you didn't back it up, your data is gone. There is no "solution" after the fact.

I don't think I back uped anything. I assume it was already going to do that like most times..
I downloaded and updated the phone with the iOS6, but then an error occurred saying that the phone can't be updated. It then turned into recovery mode and suggests that the only way to use the phone is if I restore it.. which I really can't do! I still have lots of photos..

If it's not too late, and i do not know if this will work or not.. but download something like TinyUmbrella or any program that will allow you to kick it out of Recovery Mode and back to regular. May or may not work but worth a shot. -

These errors mean that your device or computer may have a hardware issue that's preventing the update or restore from completing.
Check that your security software and settings aren't preventing your device from communicating with the Apple update server.
Then try to restore your iOS device two more times while connected with a cable, computer, and network you know are good.
Confirm that your security software and settings are allowing communication between your device and update servers.
If you still see the error message when you update or restore, contact Apple support.

I have updated my 3gs to the latest operating system but it is stuck in recovery mode and will not restore...any suggestions on getting it to restore?
Yes, a message pops up on the computer that says..."The iPhone could not be restored. An unknown error occurred. (3014)" I tried to research this and tried all of the things Apple suggested but still am not having any luck with it. Thanks for any assistance you may provide!

Try this - download a program called rec boot. follow the instructions to kick it out of recovery mode. and does itunes recognise
or hold the power and home button together until you see a "connect to itunes" pic on the screen

iPhone 4 went into recovery mode when trying to restore it. Now the only option iTunes allows is for "restore & upgrade", it is not offer an option to restore from a backup, says that must first do the upgrade, when attempting to do the upgrade the iPhone won't accept it.
How can I restore from a back up in recovery mode when the only option is "restore and upgrade"?

Okay, so I got an iPod touch, 4th gen, 32gb, brand new and running perfectly fine two years ago. Used it for about six months, lost it, and finally found it again a month ago tucked away in my recliner. It was as dead as a doornail, but I had it charged up and ready to go in a few hours.
So I wanted to get a special app for my iHome, as well as spend all of my accumulated iTunes cards that were previously useless due to the fact that I had lost my iPod for a year and a half. The app store said I had to update to the current software to download anything new, so I did just that about half an hour ago, updating to the latest version of iTunes and downloading the new software for my iPod like I was supposed to.
Only when I applied it to my iPod, it went into Recovery Mode as expected, but I can't restore it! I've made sure there's no extra USB attachments in it, my firewalls are currently down to get around this stupid thing (just turned them back on because it wasn't working), and feeling like I just let all this money slip down the drain.

Install the latest version of iTunes.
Check security software and ensure that communication to gs.apple.com is allowed. Follow these stepsfor assistance with security software.
Check the hosts file. The restore will fail if there is an active entry to redirect gs.apple.com. Follow theadvanced iTunes Store troubleshooting steps to edit the hosts file or revert to a default hosts file. See "Blocked by configuration: (Mac OS X/Windows) > Rebuild network information."
Try to restore from another known-good computer and network.
If the errors persist on another computer, the device may need service. -

My son tried to jailbreak his ipod touch like an idiot and of course it did not work. Now his ipod is stuck in recovery mode and I can't get it to restore. I get a message that says:the ipod software update server could not be contacted. Make sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active, or try again later. I have internet access and everything is working but itunes can't connect to it. Why? I have been having issues with itunes for a couple weeks now. Try Restoring it 3 times in a row and see if that works.
If not that error can indicate one of two things: Your iPhone was at one time jailbroken, had the iOS version rolled back, or ran an unauthorized beta and if none of those things are true it is a hardware error. -
Hi, my iphone 5 encountered an unknown error while updating to iOS 7 via itunes and is now stuck in recovery mode and prompts me to restore the phone when I connect it to itunes but then I would lose all my data. If you cannot find a backup, and the phone is in recovery mode, there are no futher suggestions to make. To get the phone working again you have to restore. You cannot force a backup at this time since it is already in recovery mode. It will not allow anything else but a restore at this point.
