I web to wordpress??

Thinking of upgrading to  Adobe Muse or Wordpress.
I like the way I web allows  one to use different fonts, backdrops, color fills, frames etc..... and hence add one's own  outlook to web site.
Can  Wordpress do the same, they  always look generic.
Thought it seems WP has cleaner html ,hence has advantages.
Wonder if Muse[seems similar to  I web] will be  more  less generic looking  vs WP.
Can WP be used  in a  less generic way or is Muse better for upgrade.
Jay

The only way to use Muse is to rent it from Adobe at $180 per year or at $20 per month on a month to month basis..  That's pretty expensive. If you know any HTML code give Flux a try. It's WYSIWYG and drag and drop. It also can open and edit existing websites. It has a 30 day demo period and very good video tutorials at their website.

  • Web App not showing in Portal Preview

We are running two web apps (Wordpress sites zebraWP and zms) under our subscription at Azure. They both show under the old management portal but only one shows in the new portal.  Reading through a previous question, I went to resources.azure.com and
the site (zebraWP) that is not showing shows Error: 'Resource not found'
The website otherwise appears to function normally.
I am not sure how to correct this. I have a nice example of what should be there from the other site but am reluctant to try to edit anything myself.

You can work around by using resources.azure.com to create the site with the same name (zebraWP).    Make sure you put the matching location and serverFarm with the origin site.   For instance, location "West US" and serverFarmName
    "DefaultServcerFarm".   See if it helps.

  • Possible to convert PDF to HTML?

Hello, I basically want to take this fancy PDF I created that has a ton of hyperlinks and beautiful images into an HTML version for the web (on Wordpress).  Is this possible and if so, could you please point me in the right direction?
    Thanks!
EDIT: I have tried "save as HTML" and it totally messed up my pdf

Your best bet is as Graffiti said recreate  in BreamWeaver or something similar.
You could simply somewhat by taking the original document you used to convert the Document If it was a Word Document To save it as an HTML document.
Then use DremWeaver's setting to "Fix Word HTML" to  make it W3C compatible HTML.  That would save some typing.

  • Files not opening in Quicktime X

I am compressing some files to Quicktime. Oddly, they will not open in Quicktime X, but they will in Quicktime 7!? Any ideas why?
    Here are the settings:
These files are intended for streaming (progressive download) from my web site (Wordpress, FLV Embed player)

HI Tracey, hmmm this is unusual indeed.I'd concur this is not pecifically a Compressor.app issue, more likley the sub-coponents.
Just another thought... would you have a look in /var/logs/ or use the console.app to see if there are any error messages issued by Quicktime X.app when you attempt to open the seond clip? It was usual that QT would display an error through the QT ui.... but who knows.
There maybe some other error messgae  indirecty related by an asynchronous process that is kicked off by QT through the framework... again who knows.
Anyway if you see any unual error messages relating to the DECODing of the clip, you might post these for the readers to see and perhaps attempt then to isoltae the QT X opening issue.
post your results back for others to see if you can.

  • Would WORDPRESS offer advantages[aside from blogging] vs I web??

    Wordpress vs I web?????
I like I web but....maybe WORDPRESS offers more????
    I dont care about blogs..

I have created my new site using WordPress.org and it does not have a blog and I am very pleased with it.
You can enhance a WordPress site with the use of plugins, you can allow others to register and they will be sent a password, so you can keep areas of your site that are only available to people who have logged in.  Also, you don't need to save a domain.sites file and you can update your site from any Mac or PC - simply enter your url and then you just login and away you go.
Note though the difference between http://wordpress.com and http://wordpress.org - they are different with wordpress.com being free and being published to the wordpress servers, but you can upgrade to use your domain name, although this can be expensive.
The cheaper way is to use wordpress.org that you install with a database on your host/server - this works out cheaper and there is more you can do, such as adding plugins etc. and there are literally hundreds of wordpress plugins to achieve anything you can think of from Forums, to Contacts forms with Captchaa, PayPal and Google checkout plugins to hit counters and time clocks.
It would be worth it and everytime I use WordPress I learn more.  As well as having created my new site using WordPress.org, I also have two more websites that I have created in iWeb that have WordPress.org blogs attached - I have managed to get the blogs looking very similar to the website itself so you don't know that you are leaving the site - I have links from the website to my blog which because it is .org, is http://www.domain.com/Blog.
You could do worse that using WordPress and there is a lot of help around for people who do use it.

  • New employer needs website update. Upgrade of Microsoft Expression Web or use WordPress?

I have to update my new employer's outdated drab website.  I haven’t developed a website since Microsoft Expression Web in 2011.  This is a small company of 10.  They want no bells/whistles, just a static site.
Do I need to upgrade my Microsoft Windows Expressions, and if so, to what in order to accommodate all the new devices everybody's using.  An IT friend told me to use WordPress, where I can get templates that will scale appropriately
for other devices.  Any advice out there would sure help.

Wordpress and EW are apples and oranges.  Both are fruits, but do they need a content management system and/or blog, or not?   If it's a simple site you will be developing, you can use EW.  (It doesn't matter which version, but
the latest EW4 is completely free.)  You can create a responsive site in EW, which is what you need for a site that is flexible across device sizes.  Much as you can find already built Wordpress themes that are responsive, you can find templates
for responsive websites that you can use in EW.   A quick google search brings up many results.  Clicking on one randomly (completely randomly - I've not used this and am not promoting it):
http://www.rtbwizards.com/  and an example template preview is at:
http://www.rtbwizards.com/webs/4551/two-columnA.html  Shrink your browser window to narrow and watch what happens to the content and to the menu at the top of the page.   That
template is not free, but it is very cheap.    ...And so on.

  • Can web pages generated with Muse be integrated into a wordpress site?

Can web pages generated with Muse be integrated into a wordpress site?
Can sites/pages generated with Adobe muse be published through word press?

Muse is static HTML, WordPress is a PHP-based CMS. Neither has anything to do with the other and depending on whether you use a pre-hosted WordPress install it may not even possible to include any static HTML nor modify the WP theme. Otherwise your static muse site would simply be a sub-domain/ sub-section in a separate folder that can be linked from the main WP install, but beyond that they don't interact.

  • Wordpress or  Adobe Muse  vs I WEB?

Aside from blogging, any real advantages vs  I WEB???

With WordPress, you can use either the free version at http://wordpress.com where your site is published to the WordPress server or you can purcahse hosting and then install http://wordpress.org at your host.  This needs a database, but most good hosts that offer the Content Managements Systems such as WordPress, Drupal and Joomla offer easy one click installation.
With WordPress.com, you can upgrade to use your domain name with it if you want to, but it might work out cheaper to use WordPress.org with a host.  With Wordpress.org you get plugins etc to enhance your site and there are lots more things you can do.
I decided to change and have used iWeb for quite sometime for both of my websites.  I needed to register a new domain name for a new business/practice and decided to go with HostExcellence where I got a free domain name. They offered WordPress so I installed it on my server and now have a new website using WordPress.  I don't have a blog with it and it can be used to create a good looking website without a blog - I have embellishments using plugins for a for a Forum feature, I have online payment using the Google checkout plugin, Contact forms with Captcha etc. and it is a good functional site without a blog.
You don't need to keep and save a domain file and as long as you can get online on any Mac or PC, you can update your site from wherever you are - simply enter your domain name and then login.
The good thing about WordPress too is that you can easily allow people to register for your site and you can allow different levels of access, such as read only or read and write ability.  When they register WordPress automatically generates a password that is sent to them so that they can log in and then change it.  When you log in as admin, you have access to be able to alter everything and theoretically you can have pages of the site that are only available when people register and log in.
There is a lot more that you can actually do with WordPress.org, so it would be well worth exploring and you could also look at Drupal too as this is another of the CMS's.
Don't know anything about Adobe Muse.

  • Websites over Blogs - The Future of the Net and World Wide Web, Websites over WordPress

Hey there, I have been a blogger for the past six years and frankly it has been getting tired and stale. It’s the same thing day in, day out. Recently a co-worker introduced me to Adobe Muse and I am going back to school to learn web design so I can make my own websites. Don’t get me wrong, blogging is cool but I am tired of blogging now. I want to know if it is more rewarding and more stable to work with websites instead of blogs.
My issue is the updating of websites. I want to be able to make websites about my favourite new movies and music, not to mention TV shows and Caribbean culture. I’ll do three different sites of course as I like to divide and conquer and I hate doing the general thing. I already have a domain name picked out and I would sign up and start doing my websites as early as this evening. I have been positing like crazy on message boards about this but I wanted your take. I know you have done websites before and a co-worker, recently introduced me to Adobe Muse and I am loving the drag and drop features. It’s easy to use and it’s great to use and I am still learning to publish.
What I want to know if how you update blogs without manually pushing down later posts down to a new page or to the bottom of an existing page, because in blogs WordPress does this for you automatically when you publish something new. I know webpage programs vary but what is the general procedure like? Blogs automatically create pages where things are basically archives to an older page with the older posts being there and newer posts appearing at the top of the main page. I really want to do websites again and learning how to create my own sites and all is cool. What I want to know as well is, if I can import my own templates and apply them to my site in Adobe Muse and Adobe Dreamweaver which I have used in the past when it was a Macromedia product.
Also how do I publish my website or publish updated stuff like updated pages and items, etc? Blogs are fun and all but lately it’s just getting tired so with emerging technologies like php and css as well as html5 which are the future is it worth it to create blogs to put your opinions and content out there or work with websites and are most pages out there blogs or regular websites? Which is more profitable? I ask this because while websites are here to stay and have been around first and longer and still going strong blogs are hot and popular. Blogs haven’t been able to topple websites.
Do you have a website or websites for yourself and how has it been, the process and so on? Can you update easily and do you use Adobe Dreamweaver? How is your web publishing and web content experience? What is web content like to you and where do you see your content going in the next five to ten years because while social media like Facebook is hot now, wit may not be hot in the next five to ten years. It may be a trend now that may evaporate in a few years so the next big thing may come along and websites and blogs may hold their own. What is your take?

With the steady stream of emerging web technologies, the web is constantly changing.  What worked well for web developers 6 years ago has been replaced by all new programming and design methods.  This cycle never stops either.  A new trend emerges, remains popular for a while then fizzles out and is replaced by another one.  It's impossible to predict what will and won't last.  Only time will tell.  So professional web developers  must keep pace with all new technologies or risk being left behind.
6 years ago almost all web sites were built to support the average desktop/laptop screen.  A standard page width of 800 - 1000px was common.  Today however, we must cater to a whole new generation of mobile and tablet devices.  The one-size-fits-all web site layout is no longer relevant.
Mobile users interact with the web differently than desktop users.  They need finger-friendly navigation and forms.  They want quick access to less content.  And they need pages that fit their device and don't drain their batteries & data plans with gratuitous images, animations & other media files.
On the other hand, a desktop user with a good broadband connection is likely to want more information, greater interactivity and plenty of media-rich content because their device can support it.
Finding a balance between these two polar opposites is just one of the many challenges modern web developers face.
    Dreamweaver vs Muse
Dreamweaver is a pro-level web authoring tool aimed at people who care about code.  There's no limit to what you can do in DW, providing you have the requisite skills with HTML5, CSS, JavaScript, PHP and MySql databases.  DW expects you to know code.  If you don't, you'll be very frustrated until you learn code.
Muse is aimed at consumers and designers who know nothing about code.  All that drag & drop ease of use is nice but it comes at a price.  MU is limited.  You cannot use it to build dynamic blogs, shopping carts, or content management systems like WordPress.  It won't build mobile phone apps either. MU might be all you need for a static hobby site, but if you need more than that, you won't be able to do it in Muse.  More importantly, if you build your site in Muse, be prepared to stick with Muse for the life of your site.  The code it generates is almost impossible to work with in any other HTML editor.
Decide what's important for your long-term project goals.  Use the right tools for your project.

  • Using Lion Server as a web server for Wordpress sites?

Is anyone doing this? I have a few low traffic Wordpress sites I'd like to move to a Lion server I already have at MacMiniColo to try and reduce my costs.
Obviously I'll have to install MySQL and MySQL Workbench for the databases, which I'm fairly comfortable with, however I'm not sure what the best route for FTP access to the WP directories is. I've looked at Rumpus but it's just a little too pricy for my needs.
    Does anyone have any advice?

John, I guess you did install MySQL and got Wordpress running? I use the default location for web sites on Lion server. So my site is in /Library/Server/Web/Data/Sites/wordpress/. Since the directory is owned by _www I use root to retrieve and put files under this directory. My own user account would not have sufficient rights. It is not safe to use root with ssh with a password, so you will have to make sure you can only login as root with an ssh key. Therefore edit /etc/sshd_config and make sure that a line with 'PermitRootLogin without-password' is present. sshd or your server should be restarted then.
On you local mac you can use the terminal to generate a key. Use 'ssh-keygen'. Here (and on various other web pages) you can find how to do this:
    http://coolestguyplanettech.com/secure-ssh-keys-connection-with-remote-passwords -osx-10-6-linux/
On the server you will have to put the authorized_keys file in /var/root/.ssh/
Now you can use cyberduck and let it authenticate with the key you have generated (id_rsa if you use the web page I pointed to). Then you can go to the wordpress directory and upload or edit files.

  • Weird issue with wordpress and mac web services

Ok so i have a 2.66ghz mac mini server running 10.6.4 and when veiwing a page created with wordpress via localhost is displays everything properly. but when veiwing it as an ip ( http://97.67.201.5 ) it loses all the formating data.
    Anyone have any ideas?

I could be wrong here, but what did you set as URL in Wordpress? It seems that some of the internal URLs regarding CSS, etc. are not resolved properly. Are there any errors in the Activity window in Safari?
    Just a thought.

  • When I try to install wordpress via firefox it says this:WordPress requires that your web server is running PHP. Your server does not have PHP installed, or PHP is turned off. What is PHP, and what do I do?

I dont know, if this is placed under the right category, but I really am a dummie about this!
please if anyone could provide a simple answer.
    thank you!

That file might have moved to a different location on the server. I think you'll need to check with RefWorks support or your local IT department on why the install page links do not work.

  • Safari doesn't open certain web sites

    Hi there,
I'm a web designer working on a new site. My clients say that their Mac which is running Safari 5.1.5 won't open their web site which is: http://www.adventuress.us
I've asked about 5 other people to see if they could open it up on a mac using Safari.  So far, everyone can open it except for my client.
Can you help me troubleshoot this?  The site is created with wordpress.  It's not redirecting.
I'm really not sure which Mac they have or their operating system.  I just chose two so that I could submit this ticket.
What in the world would stop them from being able to see the site? They can go to other sites.
    Thanks.

    Hi...
What in the world would stop them from being able to see the site?
Ask if they have anti virus software installed ..
It would help to know for sure which Mac OS X they have installed. Click the Apple menu icon top left corner of the screen. From the drop down menu click: About This Mac.
I'm running Lion v10.7.3 with Safari 5.1.5 on one Mac without any problems loading that site. Same with another Mac running Snow Leopard v10.6.8.
I am using OpenDNS which may help your client and is suggested by Apple > Safari 5.0.1 or later: Slow or partial webpage loading, or webpage cannot be found
Use OpenDNS for better speed, more security, includes anti phishing filters, prevents browser redirects, blocks the flashback trojan, and it's free.
Open System Preferences / Preferences then select the Network tab. Click the Advanced tab then click the DNS tab.
    Click +
Enter these addresses exactly as you see them here.
    208.67.222.222
    Click +
    208.67.220.220
    Then click OK.
Quit then relaunch Safari. Try that site.

    HI,
right click on command icon and click run as administrator then use above stsadm commend to update credential. If still you face same issue then try with powershell as mention in below link: (make sure that you open sharepoint powershell as run as administrator)
