I wiped my Mac desktop partition while using BootCamp. I want to just start over but how do i download snow leopard and start again?

I accidentally wiped my mac OS partition while trying to expand the memory on BootCamp windows to play games. I did this through dropping memory on the mac then trying to merge the unallocated memory with windows 7. I'm now left with windows 7 and next to no memory, i dont have any data i care about backing up as i've only just got this mac (i bought it off a friend and they can't find the installation CD)  So i just want to start over but how can i do this?

You'll need to find the disks, or buy new ones. Snow Leopard only comes on DVD.
Call the Apple store and purchase SL for $29 while they still have some in stock. Prices have skyrocketed for SL retail disks. Going anywhere from $85 to $125. While you have Apple on the phone, make sure to have your Mac's serial number handy. This is important because the last retail release of SL was 10.6.3. If the Mac you now own came with 10.6.4 or later, it will not be able to use the retail disk.
If that's the case, then you can use the serial number to get the correct replacement gray disks the Mac came with. It's not expensive to get them and would be good to have anyway since the retail disks do not include the bundled software such as iLife, Garage Band and a bunch of others.

how can i run snow leopard and leopard in my mac?

First, your Mac model must be able to run Leopard. Second, you would have to partition your hard drive to create a second volume then install Leopard on the new volume using a Leopard installer DVD.

Download and install this update combo. This update combo for Snow Leopard can bring any version of Snow Leo up to 10.6.8 with the lastest version of App Store for Snow Leo.

  • Is it safe to format and reinstall partition while using bootcamp?

I've got a macbook pro running OSX 10.9. Currently, I have my drive partitioned using bootcamp. I would really like to format and reinstall the apple side of my partition without doing anything to windows side. Is there anything to be worried about or will the formatting and reinstilation be the same as normal?

It will not disturb Boot Camp. Do this:
Install or Reinstall Mavericks, Lion/Mountain Lion from Scratch
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Erase the hard drive:
      1. Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
      2. After DU loads select your startup volume (usually Macintosh HD) from the
left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
      3. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Optionally, click on
the Security button and set the Zero Data option to one-pass. Click on
the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.
      4. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks and click on the Install button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • Hello friends!I use mac book(2.4 GHz intel core 2 duo).is it worth updating to snow leopard and then lion?if so how to do so?

Hello  I use mac book 2.4 GHz intel core 2 duo.Is it worth updating to latest version like snow leopard and then Lion or buying new mac air?
    regards
    Clayton.

Well, it depends on what you expect it to do and if it works as expected - it that answer is yes, I'd say make sure you max out the RAM (I've noticed Snow Leopard needs more). Doing it this way gives you a machine which will run 2 different OS versions - on the other hand, depending on when you'd buy the MBA, you may only be able to run Lion (unless you buy that quickly as well while they still come with SL).

  • While using my imac the display just cuts off whats causing this

while using my imac the display just cuts off but the machine is still on and I have to push the power button a couple of times fir it to cut back on whats causing this?

    Hi keithfromcapitol heights,
It sounds as if your iMac is going to sleep unexpectedly. Is this during use or after it has been left alone for a while (which can be normal if it is set that way?) If during use, I would suggest that you reset your System Management Controller, using the steps in this article -

No, you can't partition a Time Capsule's internal HD.  Both partitions will back up to the same sparse bundle. keeping the backups for each partition separate.
Time Machine will not take the two OSX partitions as two different computers, but for best results, exclude the Snow Leopard drive from backups on the Lion partition, and exclude the Lion partition from backups on the Snow Leopard partition.
There may be some files on the Lion partition that Time Machine on Snow Leopard won't like, among other things.  See #10 in  Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions for details.

  • Can i install windows 7 via bootcamp (MB Air) while using remote disc? I put the windows 7 disk in my macbook pro drive, and connect to my brand new macbook air. In bootcamp i allocate the partition then i click install and bootcamp will not see the disk.

Can i install windows 7 via bootcamp (on my MB Air) while using remote disc? I put the windows 7 disk in my macbook pro drive, and connect to my brand new macbook air via remote disk. In bootcamp (on my air) i allocate the partition, then i click install, and bootcamp will not see the disk from my macbook pro's drive. How do i get the bootcamp assistant running on my MB air to automatically find the disk in my macbook pro with the ISO image of windows 7? The remote disk on my air can find the cd but bootcamp will not begin installing it. Anyway to do this without buying the damned usb drive?

I don't know first hand if you can use the Remote Disk option with Windows but as of 10.7.2 you can now use BCAssistant to make a bootable USB (thumb drive or external disk) W7 installer with the Boot Camp drivers installed also. Have you tried that yet?

  • I want to use my Mac desktop as a portal for viewing my cable television via some kind of cord. Is this possible and what do I need to set this up?

I want to use my Mac desktop as a portal for viewing my cable television via some kind of cord. Is this possible and what do I need to set this up?

It can be done with analog but not digital thanks to "good 'ol" HDCP copy protection which apple (and most other manufacturers) unfortunately respect.
So you can take the analog output from your cable box (component -- 5 cables -- if it has it but generally they all have composite -- 3 cables) and feed it into some kind of converter or into some appropriate pci card for your mac pro.  But none of them are going to let you directly use the HDMI output from the box to your computer.
Bottom line, no single cord is going to work and it will never be the higher quality digital picture you get on your tv.
Some qualification:  There are boxes that I think support hdmi input.  Look at Blackmagic.  But I still don't think you can get around the HDCP from the cable box (might depend on the kind of cable box).

I tried to partition him using bootcamp but didn't have mac os cd neither mac instalation. the problem i am dealing now its that i cant go back to OS partition since its not appeared when i restart c and no win drivers to have a properly running system. I've thought as an option to re-download boot-camp and run the instalation from windows partition and see if i can repair it that way, didnt try yet thought just in case anyone has a better prposition or dealed with the same problem

Take it to your local Apple Store or AASP, it's covered by a 1 year hardware warranty. If you have AppleCare then give them a call but I'm pretty sure they will advise the same. If you have not purchased AppleCare yet please do, this will extend the warranty to 3 years however it MUST be purchased within the first  year of ownership. Let it go 366 days and you are out of luck. AppleCare will also include telephone support too.
    Good luck.

  • How do I install Snow Leopard as a partition with Yosemite on a 2001 Mac Mini?

I have owned Mac's on and off since the 80's.  I currently own (myself and my kids) a 2008 MBP, iPhone 4 and 4s, 2 old iPhone 3's, just purchased a 2011 Mac Mini and iPhone 6, and my work-from-home computer is a 4 month old MBP.
Several years ago, I upgraded the 2008 MBP to Mountain Lion.  Then the one and only game that I have played since around 2001, Star Wars Galactic Battlegrounds, wouldn't work on Mountain Lion so I successfully added a 50GB partition and reinstalled Snow Leopard and the game has worked great ever since.
Recently, I gave my son that 2008 MBP, so I purchased the Mac Mini (i5 dual, 8GB memory, 750 HDD) and immediately upgraded it to Yosemite.  I proceeded to carve out a 50GB partition and have tried several times to install Snow Leopard to no avail.
After creating the 50GB partition, I rebooted, and held down the option key so I could then have the option install the Snow Leopard onto that 50GB partition - but it just keeps freezes up on me.  I even went so far as to try to copy the 50GB off the 2008 MBP onto the Mac Mini and that (understandably) didn't work either.
While I know enough to cause trouble, I am completely flummoxed with this.  I've run many searches and haven't been able to find a solution.
Can someone please walk me through the steps to make this work?  When I do restart, I don't even see that 50GB drive like I do when I restart the 2008 MBP so I suspect something may be wrong from the get go.  In Disk Utility, it shows the 2 partitions just fine, but not on reboot/restart with the option key held down.
Thanks in advance for your help.

Thanks very much for the quick reply.  I figured it would something that simple.  Like I said, I only know enough to cause trouble.  LOL
Thanks again,  Guess I need to find a new game to play.  LOL

    Hi.
You simply can't. Snow Leopard is compiled in Intel binary only.
    Good Luck.
