Upgraded my PC to IOS 7.1, went to upgrade my first gen ipad and the op system on PC was higher than ipad could handle so now my ipad got obliterated and all i see is the picture of the phone cord. Any idea how to re-install a lower IOS to get my ipad back up and running?
Do what the picture says. Plug the iPad to a computer running the latest iTunes and restore from your last backup.
As you have probably found out, the original iPad cannot be updated beyond iOS 5.1.1. -

Unfortunately you've discovered too late how important it is to maintain an up-to-date backup of your iTunes library (and all other data of value). You could, before wiping the drive, have considered making use of a commercial data recovery service that could (albeit at considerable cost) have extracted your library from the hard disk, even if virus infected.
In the absence of that option, you will need to restore the content of your library from its original sources:
Depending on your location, you may be able to re-download any iTunes Store purchases that are still available on the Store
Likewise, most digital purchases from Amazon (including auto-rip copies of purchased CDs) should be available from the Amazon Cloud and via the Amazon Music application - the same may be true of other commercial sources for digital downloads
Content imported from your CDs will have to imported again
The specific situation that you describe regarding the music imported from your friend's external HDD suggests that either the source is badly organized and/or originates from a source other than iTunes (other media players may use alternative tags for information like artist, title, album, etc. that are not wholly consistent with how iTunes handle these). Without details of the issues you're seeing it is difficult to suggest a remedy other than going through the media album-by-album, track-by-track, and correcting the inconsistencies.
In the absence of a backup or access to the original library data there is no option other than painstakingly recreating your library as described above. As you do so, you'll now realize how important creating and maintaining backups are - in my case I have at all times three separate duplicates of my library, in two different locations, where none is ever more than a week old compared to the content of my master library. -
How to get this 2004 PMG5 back up and running?

My girlfriend and I picked up a bunch of Power Macs the other day: 1x G5 Quad, 1x G5 2004 Dual 1.8 and a G4 MDD 2003. The G4 works great and I upgraded the graphics to a lovely Geforce 3 Ti200 card. Great OS9 machine!
The G5s though, are a different story. The Quad has the infamous Delphi LCS, which broke. The logic board is undamaged, but the previous owner was not kind to this machine. The red LED near the top RAM slot shows the ill fate of this machine.
My question is mainly about the 2004 Dual 1.8Ghz machine. It POSTs fine, but once it tries to boot from a disk or a DVD, it hangs at the Apple logo. No spinning wheel, just an immediate freeze. The fans go turbo as soon as the open firmware is loaded.
Specifications:
G5 Dual 1.8Ghz from 2004
2GB PC3200 (2x 1GB, tested as working properly in other machines)
Radeon 9600XT
Disks tested include several SATA drives as well as a Kingston HyperX SSD. DVDs include 10.4.6 Tiger and 10.5.6 Leopard, universal versions.
What have we tried so far:
- PRAM reset (machine doesn't respond to the command, just continues it's boot attempt)
- Safe mode / single user mode / verbose mode (again, machine does not respond to the commands)
- Replacing the PRAM battery
- Booting into Open Firmware (works fine, the multiboot section works fine as well, and the install DVDs are detected)
- dev /memory .properties command in Open Firmware (shows SPI data as expected, RAM appears functional)
- PCI SATA card to rule out a defective SATA controller.
What we haven't tried yet:
- Apple Hardware Test to diagnose any remaining problems.
So, dear Apple community, is there something else we're missing here? I can get a Dual 2Ghz logic board + CPUs on the cheap if need be, but I'd rather get this one back up and running.I am delighted that you are someone who practices the reuse and recycle idea. Up until yesterday, I did not know that a Power PC version of the Mac was even made. I had been using a Intel imac that I bought new in 2007, and the shop that I had it at said that it would be too expensive to fix - so they were willing to let me have this power pc G5 for what I had put down for the repair. It looks like this PPC G5 is just about new - and I suspect because it was made non-upgradable from almost the git go.
I am wondering if you have found anything that will adapt your machine to newer operating systems? I am wondering if you have tried an external hard drive possibly?
If you are familiar with the Meet Up network - I am a member of the Okanagan Mac Users Meet Up group. I was thinking that it might make a lot of sense to make a proposal to Apple that the outfits that are making counterfeit software should be given an alternative that would be legit. I am thinking that these rogue software developers could be invited to make a budget line of adaptive software that could make use of the power pc hardware - and could be linked with some kind of software that would be able to interact with the advanced platforms. I would like to be able to get my system to run Chrome and Google docs. I also need to connect my HP Officejet 7610 wide printer.

I am currently using the adobe cloud service and would like to give my granddaughter my original lightroom and photoshop programs. Would do I need to do to remove them from my computer to hers? The lightroom 5 program has been replaced with the cloud version on my computer.

Lightroom has no activation check so you don't need to do anything to your computer. Your old copy of Photoshop must be deactivated / uninstalled if you haven't already done so. -

iTunes content that was downloaded with more than one iTunes account can be transferred to an iPhone.
All 3rd party apps - all paid and free apps include DRM protection, which is tied to the iTunes account that was used to download the apps. Whoever the new iTunes account is created for, in order to install app updates that were downloaded with the shared iTunes account will require using the shared iTunes account and password. -

But if you only have to work while travelling about (and I understand correctly) then this might not be an issue with cloud-Photoshop as that can work offline and »only« needs to verify the license every 30 days (or so).

I have recently purchased MacBook Pro with Mac OSX 10.7.3 Lion and I would like to install Final Cut Pro 6 Studio2, and it came up with this error: 'you can't open application FinalCutProStudio.mpkg because PowerPc apps are no longer supported......Is there a way to run FCP6 on lion withoput this error? I currently have a mini server (OSX10.8.5, server 2.2.2) that I am using Time Machine to back up 4 external drives that are connected to the server via firewire 800. I would like to use Time Machine to back up to a windows network SMB drive. I can see the drive on my desktop but it will not show in the time machine window to be able to select it for use.

Thanks for any and all helpThe supported targets for Time Machine backups are local (direct-connected) disks, and network targets include Time Capsule, a disk hanging off the current-generation AirPort (though not earlier AirPort devices), and OS X Server systems.
The Time Machine storage is based on the HFS+ file system, so I would not expect TM to work with SMB file services.
While there are hacks to allow Time Machine to access network drives, I would not consider those to be reliable. Skim the forum and the 'net for related details, and for previous discussions of setting this up and the related issues that can arise.
Remember to test the recovery with whatever you decide to use; whole point of backups is the ability to restore the data, after all.

Captivate is not really designed to do what you want in this instance. It's more targeted at allowing a user to complete an assessment and then track whether or not they passed. So it's only really set up to send information in a format that the LMS will understand and interpret as Pass/Faill and what the score was.
You really need something more flexible than that. So I think you would need to get a programmer involved and have the solution custom made. In my experience, any time you try to diverge Captivate from what it was designed to do, and you need to get other IT professionals involved, you can kiss thousands of dollars goodbye before you have a workable solution.
