I would like to capture live sports directly to imovie

I would like to avoid the time consuming step of uploading data to imovie.   One work flow that is time consuming is film event, then upload 1 gig of data and then edit.  There must be a way that I can elegantly turn on my camera and transfer in real time the data to imovie.

Hi EZ Jim, and thanks.   This is a good work around.  However, I wish to use either my Sony HD camera or my older digital tape camera.   The Sony HD has a USB out and also a mini HDMI out. My laptop has FIrewire in. The older camera has a firewire out port. It is not HD quality but I can modify the scale to 16:9 and it is just a slightly less quality image.
I can get results... ie record directly to my laptop.   But I have to click "capture" in the window that pops up and gives me the choice of inputs (the onlaptop icamera or the connected camera).  And then when the play stops I push the stop.   This gets the 'footage' directly onto my Mac Harddrive.  But it seems clunky.  I was hoping there might be a more elegant solution out there.
You're welcome, Cap'n!
Because you posted your topic in iMovie for iOS, my initial response offered help for the iOS version of iMovie.  However, your latest post seems to describe how you connect your camcorders to your laptop's OS X iMovie.  If your question is about recording directly into your Mac's iMovie, see Record video directly into iMovie.
If you don't need any other suggestions from us users who post here, you can send your comments or suggestions for improving your specific iMovie version directly to Apple by using the appropriate Apple product feedback page:
  • iMovie for Mac OS X Product Feedback
  • iMovie for iOS Product Feedback
You are not likely to get a response, but you can be certain that the responsible Apple people will see your input for consideration in future iMovie product development.

  • I would like to capture L and R arrow key action when recording a captivate 5 project

    Hi All out there,
I would like to capture L and R arrow key actions besides left or right mouse clicks.
Enter is possible if a click has preceeded :-)
Right mouse interactions are captured :-)
and now the tricky one, what about those L and R arrow keys?
In the user interface that I capture there is the possibility to  increase or decrease values by use of the arrow keys on the keyboard.
These actions need to be captured in the demo, assessment and training mode.
Can you help me with the needed settings to succeed?
PS: I have found out that up down arrow keys are not possible as this is a  functionality that eould be taken over by browsers like Explorer for  navigation.
I am hoping U out there can help !!!
    Stephanie

    Hi,
Currently, Captivate capture does not generate captions for Left, Right, Down, Up arrow keys.
If you think it is something you would like to see in captivate, please log a feature request here: https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/mmform/index.cfm?name=wishform&product=5.
    Thanks,

    Welcome to the Forum.
Most important information (especially for such queries) is Oracle Version.
    Is AUDITING an option?
    Flashback can provide UNDO SQL.
For SQL there are many options...
    1. LOGminer
    sudhakar@ORCL>desc dba_hist_sqltext;
    Name                                                  Null?    Type
    DBID                                                  NOT NULL NUMBER
    SQL_ID                                                NOT NULL VARCHAR2(13)
    SQL_TEXT                                                       CLOB
    COMMAND_TYPE                                                   NUMBER2. SELECT SQL_TEXT FROM DBA_HIST_SQLTEXT WHERE SQL_ID IN (SELECT SQL_ID FROM V$ACTIVE_SESSION_HISTORY WHERE USER_ID = ???)

  • HT1338 I would like to burn a home movie from imovie. How may I do this?

I would like to burn a home movie from imovie. How may I do this? I have imported from a viedo camera  to imovie and cannot burn it to a blank dvd! ***?

    Buy iDVD.
    http://www.apple.com/findouthow/movies/idvd.html
With iDVD you can easily and quickly create DVDs with menus and graphics almost on the level of what Hollywood can do.
IDVD is easy to get. It is available on disk as part of iLife 11.
IDVD is a wonderful piece of software and well worth the low cost of $40.  (works with all Mac OS 10.5 and newer.)

  • How do I download all of my icloud music to my ipad? I don't always have a wifi connection and would like to store these files directly on my device.

I know it defeats the purpose of the iCloud, but I would like to have some (if not all) of my iCloud music available on my iPad. I'm not always able to get a wifi signal and it would be nice to have these files actually on my iOS device. Is there a setting to download everything?

When you say "iCloud music" do you mean iTunes Match or iTunes purchases in the cloud?
I'd start with this article to download past purchases: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2519
Either way, there is a cloud picture with a download arrow inside it-click on it and it downloads to your device

  • I would like to capture from several different sources simultaneously.

Is this realistic with one computer or would it be better to purchase additional units for capturing as well. And if I was using them primarily for the purpose of capturing as well as networking for the sake of speeding up compressor would any of the smaller systems be adequate?
(I could possibly need to capture from up to 4 devices at the same time)

What Randy and David say is true.
    Here's my story.
For the last few summers, I pick one day to do a sunrise to sunset time lapse capture from the deck of my lake cottage. The camera looks out across the back lawn, to the dock, the lake and the hills on the far side - about 1/2 mile away. The sky is an enormous presence.
The first time I did this was a spur of the moment lark - a "wouldn't it be cool if" moment. I had a camera, a tripod, my laptop and software which could capture using time lapse. I hooked things up quickly, turned everything on and voilà. The video turned out wonderfully. Each year since, the production has gotten a a bit more involved.
    Last year ...
I watched the weather reports daily. I went online tracking weather patterns moving across the continent. This was all undertaken to pinpoint the day when we would likely get the perfect combination of sky, light clouds, strong sun, wind and water.
It looked like the day was coming. The evening before I placed the camera on a weighted and braced tripod in a secure area on the back porch. It was under cover and secured to keep it from moving if there was a breeze. The area was cordoned to keep people from walking on that part of the deck to prevent vibrations. The laptop computer went inside the house on a very secure table. The camera and computer were both connected to house power but each had a fully charged battery attached if we lost power.
I ran a 3 meter Granite Digital firewire cable from the camera outside to the laptop computer in the house. All cables were taped down or routed so there was no possibility for someone to trip over them. The firewire cable was connected to the laptop via a PCMCIA firewire card and there was an external FW400 drive connected via the computer's OEM port to hold the captured material. The drive was bus powered so even if we lost power, the computer's battery would keep things going.
Before I went to bed, I insulated and covered the camera with a waterproof setup to keep it from getting wet from condensation or there was an unexpected thunderstorm during the night.
Up before dawn, I uncovered the camera and had the capture running when the first light showed in the eastern sky. It was a spectacular sunrise.
After breakfast, I checked on the setup. It was humming along so I went for a swim, ran errands in town, played a round of golf.
It was a beautiful day. The clouds were marching across the sky, the lake had small ripples as wind played on the surface. The sun was strong which generated sharp shadows marking the passage of time. The whole day I was thinking, "we nailed it, this is THE PERFECT day to capture".
Late afternoon, I came into the house and on my way upstairs to take a shower and change for dinner, I noticed the laptop. The cover was closed. I had left it open. With my heart racing, I opened the lid and the computer woke up ...
Someone - (no one ever admitted to touching the machine - even under threats of withholding all ice cream) - closed the lid and the machine went to sleep. There was no capture as the temp file ended up without an EOF marker. All that I had to show for the day was a several hundred MB unrecoverable file.
The next day dawned with a foggy rain that hung on for the last few days of vacation ...
    good luck,
    x

  • That did not work.  I would like to talk to someone directly to resolve this.  Thanks.

Thanks James, but that did not work.  I think I need to speak to someone directly to walk me through this.  I am very new to this.

    Granny,
This is a forum, not a personal inbox for "James", so starting a thread that looks like an email reply to a conversation you had with someone will not get a response.

  • I would like to download mp3 content directly from a specific website to my iphone or ipad

I am trying to download mp3 content directly from a website, jw.org, to my ipad and iphone.  I used to be able to this with my android phone, i had to download a "filemanager" app to unzip if I selected complete "albums" but it would then automatically make them available in my music app.  There has got to be a way to this on the iphone.

I think it recognises *some* non-Apple Bluetooth devices, but the number of devices, and the functionality supported, is very limited, and extremely poor and inflexible when compared to other manufacturers' devices.

  • L would like to capture VHS using an old Dazzle DVC 100 (analog to USB) to HD & DVD

Is this possible? Can I just use Adobe to capture or do I need different software or hardware? This is for family home videos. Thank you

First, Version 13 no longer captures from a tape camera

USB is not supported... If you have version 12 or earlier, read below
Use a TI chip for adding a firewire card http://forums.adobe.com/thread/940242
And a device such as http://www.grassvalley.com/products/converters

  • I would like to capture digital video from a camcorder on my HP Envy23.

I used a firewire cable on my old desktop, but this all-in-one computer doesn't have a firewire port.  Does anyone know what I can used with a digital camcorder with a DV port for a digital transfer?  Can I use the USB 3.0 port?

    Hi,
The USB 3.0 ports are not reliable, USB 2.0 ports are much better. Please check the following link. I actually used one USB-Firewire adapter for my Canon MX250 video cam. I've got new video cam now, just before Christmas when I needed a new video cam to record my newly born grand son.

  • I would like to have my favourits direct on the mainpage when I start Firefox. Now I have open the libary fist before I can go to my favorits. Please advice.

With windows internet explorer you can very easely pin point all your favourit websites on the left side of the screen when you open IE. I want the same for Fire fox.

    Shortcut: Ctrl+B
Or add a Bookmarks button: Right click at the right end of tabs and click Customize.

  • I would like to add an arrow to my iMovie project to highlight a basketball player, is this possible?

I am making a basketball highlight tape for my son and am wondering if you can add an arrow to a video clip in iMovie?  I have downloaded a number of clips from different games into the project library, have inserted transition titles, and I now want to highlight which player is my son in the series of clips.

... hm, hard to tell ...
as mentioned on my site, this a workaround, officially not supported.
(stumbled into that 'option' when noticing that the transparency of .png isn't changed)
    • you can apply only one arrow = pic-in-pic per clip.
    • on preview, iM often doesn't catch the trick, but on final export, it should work. without 'pause'.
    • you mentioned 'tape' - your source is miniDV? I tested that only with HDef material, .dv is internally handled different ... .maybe ... maybe this reasons the issues.
sorry, EM, of being of no better help - my last iM project is more than a year ago, after using iMovie for about 10y I made the plunge to the Big Boy's Toy FCPX and Motion5 ... I can there apply as much arrows, circles and highilghts, even 'taped' to movin' objects, as I like (=me soccer-Dad) ....

  • I would like to change users associated with my imovie project

I'm thinking this is simple but I can't figure out how to do it (I'n new to Macs). I downloaded a movie from my camera and worked on a couple projects before realizing that I was logged in under my sons account. When I log into my account I can't find the movie or the projects. How do I transition the stuff over?

It is simple if you have an external drive. Do you?

  • Live Capture During Sporting Event

I would like to capture as I go during a sporting event. Lots of starts and stops between plays. Is this possible? Thanks!

One other suggestion. Run a second camera. You never know when some giant person will decide to stand up right in front of your camera at a critical moment. Run tape in it too.
And just to back up all the nay sayers, a short story. This summer I decided to do a time lapse video of a simple 1 day construction project (rebuilding a wood shed). I've done these videos over the years and they yield fun results. The camera was set up where no one would touch it and the computer was placed in a secure flat spot. Power was provided to both camera and computer and both were under cover if it started to rain.
The capture was started (using Premiere 6.5s interval capture btw) and it was grabbing a frame every 15 secs as requested. Well, about 3 hours into the deal, someone came by and decided the computer looked too vulnerable where I placed it and closed the lid. I didn't see this happen as I was in the middle of ripping some 2x8s to use as braces. We worked into the early afternoon and broke for lunch. As I was walking over to get my cooler, I noticed the computer lid was closed and guess what - it put the computer to sleep. All capturing stopped at that point and I had no tape running in the camera. When I opened up the computer lid, the machine came back to life and was trying to make up for lost time BUT, there were NO images from the period with the lid closed, which was during the critical construction stages. Oh well, lesson learned. There will be a TAPE BACKUP next time.
The moral (if there is one) If it's not a well intentioned friend trying to 'save' your equipment, its a totally clueless bystander who doesn't care one whit about you, your equipment or your project who will block the camera, knock over the computer or generally screw up the process. The only way to salvage these situations is to have backup plans and redundant capture devices.
    Still, it can be done.

  • Capturing live to FCP

    Hi guys
I would like to capture a live event straight to FCP using firewire but FCP keeps asking me for Timecode.
Is there a way around that ?

But then you do not get time-of-day-timecode!
Is there any way of live capturing av AND time-code, similar to the AVID source/external/internal time code?
Even recording the internal clock time would be something.
