If it does not have at least 4 GB memory, upgrade it. Yours can address as much as 8 GB and Mountain Lion will be comfortable with that amount.

When I had gone to the apple care centre in India a few months ago to upgrade my OSX to Mountain Lion, I was told that considering my macbook pro's specs, upgrading it would just make it less efficient, and that I should stick to Snow Leopard unless I consider buying a newer mac that would benefit from it. Is this true? I find it a bit hard to believe. Which update is most recommended?
I also notice that my mac has gotten considerably slower. While using chrome, it buffers and struggles with even just 5 tabs open. Could this have something to do with my current ios? As a precaution, I have always been making sure I have enough free space on disk i.e around 70 - 100 free out of 250GB.

Thanks in advance.Mavericks is no longer available from the App Store, so your choice is Yosemite. One option is to create a new partition (~30- 50 GB), install the new OS, and ‘test drive’ it. If you like/don’t like it it, you can then remove the partition. Do a backup before you do anything. By doing this, if you don’t like it you won't have to go though the revert process.
Check to make sure your applications are compatible.

I should keep it simple - if you start getting involved with mixers and multiple microphones you will find the cost escalating alarmingly. If you can get yourself a decent microphone and spend some time doing tests to find the best way of balancing the voices you should be able to get acceptable results. You can't plug an ordinary microphone directly into a Mac - you would need a mixer or a preamplifier - so it's probably worth looking at USB mics. I don't know what cost range is available, and you would have to check that they would work with your Mac. Otherwise you will need an ordinary moving-coil mic and probably a USB audio converter which can accept a microphone - look at the Roland site.

What applications are you using.
Are you working with video style graphics or still images and graphics?
If video are you working with 720p or 1080p video?
256 MBs of VRAM should be fine for doing regular still design type graphics.
If you ard having issues, please tell us what they are.
It you have an older iMac, it maybe your CPU could be causing some issues.
It could be you are not using enough RAM memory to run the graphics applications you are using.
How full is your hard drive?
If your hard drive is getting full, this maybe causing your iMac to slow down.
Your issues maybe more than just GPU related.
What is the year, screen size, CPU speed and the amount of RAM installed into your iMac? -

P.S. Ive been producing music for 15 years.Recording on Logic plat.Mastering and remixing every thing. I love mac!!! Now going into video i want to be just Pro with it as i have been with my music.I purchased the jvc because Mac Recomended it and how it plugs right in. FCP 7 is intense!All the available formats are "OK" for FCP7, the more important question is what's good for the movies you want to make?
In my limited experience, music videos tend to favor 24p for it's "film-like" qualities. The 1080 vs. 720 decision is frequently based on intended use; if you're going to release on the web, 720 is fine and brings much less filesize and overhead to the edit.
My personal preference is towards high-bandwidth footage like the 35Mbps HQ Mode your camera offers because it behaves so nicely in Color. Many people advise staying away from interlaced (HDV) footage unless you totally need it for action scenes.
I think the last 4-5 music videos I've done were all 720p24 and were web released.

1: when texting, if I tap e.g. the letter T, occasionally 3 or 4 letters T will follow in rapid succession or when the letter T is highlighted to confirm the letter is correct, it will freeze at that point

Also, when scrolling through a message thread to find a particular message, sometimes I have no control over stopping at the wanted message - rapid scrolling right back to the first text occurs & often when I then try again, the reverse happens with rapid scrolling (uncontrollably) through the messages to the last message received.
2: My iPhone is not backed up due to insufficient storage. I am deleting a number of files but would like to know what 'documents & data' (17.9KB) under 'PREVIEW' is before hitting 'delete'
