I would like to purchase a Bluetooth Apple Magic Mouse to use on my new HP Windows 8.1 laptop. Will it work?

Would a Bluetooth Apple Magic Mouse work on my new HP PC laptop running windows 8.1? The laptop has bluetooth on it. I like the mouse and would like to have it bluetooth enabled on a PC laptop. Has anyone had any success with this? Thanks

It's not officially supported, but Google "magic mouse windows 8" for a variety of potential solutions.

  • Bluetooth Apple Magic Mouse jumps and moves erraticlly on screen

    Hello,
I am having problems with my Magic Mouse (cursor, pointer) jumping around on my screen when i attempt to use it. I checked preferences and the connection is fine. Has anyone else experienced this? And if so how do we remedy this annoying problem?

I was about to post this same question and then I found this thread.
Magic Trackpad was working great, I love using it.
Then one day after a week or so of use it starts acting erratically.
I assumed it was the batteries (although still above 70%) and changed them. Yet with fresh batteries reporting 100% it still refuses to take input and does its own erratic thing.
I've had to switch it off constantly today because even when I switch to using the trackpad on my MBP (Core2duo Nov '06 model) the pointer jumps about on the screen and worse still "clicks", on things which causes mayhem.
The suggestion of the USB power doesn't seem to affect me as all I have is the Apple aluminium keyboard plugged into my MBP. No other bluetooth devices being used or nearby. It's happened at 3 different locations too I can't blame interference from anything nearby
Shame as I had thought Apple had finally produced a "mouse" that was worth of their brand and reputation.

  • I would like to know how to enable Copy & Paste in Firefox. Ihave followed the insstructions but it still will not work. Can you help?

I have added the lines to my Firefox user.js file. Restarted firesox and I still can't copy & paste. I want to be able to copy and paste to my WP blog at firefox. The thing that I am not sure about is what the instructions mean when it says to: Change the url "http://www.mozilla.org" to where you want to enable this function.
It seems that i can copy from Firefox But I can't Copy. :-( Can you help

Get rid of that '''user.js''' file if that's all you're using it for and install this extension. It's a lot easier to set those policies thru this extension.<br />

  • Apple Magic Mouse and ID

I've recently purchased the lovely Apple Magic Mouse and am finding it quite difficult to use with InDesign CS4 - other ID versions would be the same I imagine. With this mouse you scroll by stroking its top surface, rather like a trackpad. This is excellent in other applications but in ID, because the pasteboard area is so large and the sensitivity of the mouse so high (even when scrolling is turned down to the minimum in its preferences), it's very easy to make your document shoot sideways off the screen. I expect Illustrator would have similar problems.
Is there a way in which the ID pasteboard can be resized or constrained? Maybe someone will come up with a prefs panel to control the new mouse's scrolling more precisely - but not yet.
    Thanks for any ideas.
    John Mallinson

I agree, it's far too sensitive. The core problem is that we have become so accustomed to resting our fingers on the surface of mice, because they always require a *definite* press, or scroll action. Now the magic mouse is so sensitive to ANY touch that it reacts to touches meant to push the mouse or were not meant to contact the surface of the mouse.
At first I liked it a bit, but the more I use it, I think it's Apple's worst mouse ever. Puck included (at least you could buy a housing to put them in). This mouse doesn't "seem" to track the same as all other wired mice I've ever used. The touch interface is great for vertical scrolling, but as pointed out here, far to sensitive in circumstances where such scrolling is not desired. Perhaps this could be rectified with a *very* comprehensive preference panel, ie one that lets a user specify the amount of scroll or movement required to initiate a swipe/scroll. The Wacom tablet panel has such prefs, for each program and an overall control as well (ie all unspecified apps). My other major complaint against the mouse is the overall shape. It is simple not comfortable or natural. I prefer a more bulbous mouse, since like many of you I imagine, I end up using the back of my palm to "push" the mouse around or rest my fingers on it. The Magic doesn't lend to resting on it at all. I also need to lift it up, or scroll it farther to the side of the screen than the room I have on my mouse surface. With my Mighty Mouse I pick it up by the sides and put it back down somwhere in the center of my mouse area. I have a dual screen setup, and my coworkers all have 24" iMacs, so it can still be a lot of screen space to traverse.
My Magic Mouse was a gift, but I still feel the $70 for it was a waste. I use it primarily because the scroll ball on the Mighty gets dirty fast and does not respond, and at that I rest the Magic next to my keyboard to scroll but still use the Mighty 95% of the time. If Apple would have made the exact same Mighty Mouse but only made the center area where the ball is, a touch sensitive surface, I would be in mouse heaven (they could delineate the area with a small inscribed line or something).
    IMHO big Apple Fail.

  • We have 4 iphones in our family and an Ipad.  When we purchase music I would like for the entire family to be able to use it.  Should each of us use a different apple account or should we use the same one.

We have 4 iphones and an Ipad in our family. When we purchase music, I would like for the entire family to be able to use it and then back it up to Icloud. What is the best and cheapest way for this to happen.  Should we all have a different apple id or should we use the same one.

You will all need to be on the same itunes account ID.
You can however all have seperate icloud accounts aswel.

I am using Aperture 3 now and I love it. But I would like to purchase or download perhaps some freeware, easy to use photo imaging/editing software with more filters, perhaps layering etc. I don't want something with a very steep learning curve, getting to old for that. My Apple mentor suggests Pixelmator or Gimp ? Are there some others out there? When I was still in the Windows world, I used Photoshop Elements but that is now in my past. Any ideas?

Pixelmator or Gimp are both nice tools for advanced image processing and compositing. I.e. Gimp can do pretty much the same as Phtoshop. You might also have a look at digikam  http://www.digikam.org/drupal/download/binary
Digikam is not just an advanced image processing and compositing program, it is also content management system like Aperture or iPhoto.
I also find GraphicConverter a nice tool, but it is not free.
If you want your image editing tools to integrate well with Aperture, I would look first at the available plug-ins, start with the plug-ins offered in the Aperture pull-down menu
    Aperture -> Aperture Plug-ins...

  • HT204319 I have a MacBook that I bought in October 2009, its current operating system is Mac OS X 10.6.8. I would like to purchase an Printmaster from the app store but it requires 10.7.3 or later. ????? What can I do?

I would like to purchase an app but it requires an operating system of OS X 10.7.3 or later and I only have 10.6.8 What do I need to do? Can I get that on my MacBook?

Upgrade Paths to Snow Leopard, Lion, and/or Mountain Lion
You can upgrade to Mountain Lion from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mountain Lion can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for $19.99. To access the App Store you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or later installed.
    Upgrading to Snow Leopard
You can purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard — Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mountain Lion if your computer meets the requirements.
         Snow Leopard General Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
           2. 1GB of memory
           3. 5GB of available disk space
           4. DVD drive for installation
           5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider;
               fees may apply.
           6. Some features require Apple’s iCloud services; fees and
               terms apply.
    Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mountain Lion, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service — this includes international calling numbers. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory
           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
           4. 7GB of available space
           5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.
    Upgrading to Mountain Lion
To upgrade to Mountain Lion you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Purchase and download Mountain Lion from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. The file is quite large, over 4 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
OS X Mountain Lion — System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) — Model Identifier 7,1 or later
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) —
                 Model Identifier 5,1 or later
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) — Model Identifier 2,1 or later
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             7. Xserve (Early 2009) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.
    Are my applications compatible?
See App Compatibility Table — RoaringApps.
For a complete How-To introduction from Apple see Upgrade to OS X Mountain Lion.

can i run my apple TV from an iPad2 with a PC as the iTunes server ... would like to do away with Apple TV remote ... thank you
    JJ

As I was saying earlier that is not possible because the Apple TV has no accessible storage and streaming from your iMac is done via home sharing on your local network.
iTunes purchases can be accessed via the cloud on Apple TV. If you have iTunes Match you can access your full music libary from the cloud.
Using the iPad to watch your films would require syncing them and then connecting the iPad to a TV.

I would like to purchase 'Mary Poppins' Movie in English. When I view the trailer, in itunes store, it's in French, how do I know what language I will purchase?

The film's description page should list the language(s) that it's in e.g. one of the version of Mary Poppins here in the UK store has :
If a film has different audio tracks then see this page for how to select one : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5562

  • I would like to purchase an ipad for my parents who live in uk . Can I mail them one fro United States?

I would like to purchase I pad for parents in uk . Can I send them one from US would it work there ?

Yes, but the warranty may not be valid there (if you're going to get them a WiFi+Celluar iPad it wouldn't be). I'd suggest you buy from the UK Apple Store, which you can now do with a US credit card:
    http://store.apple.com/us/help/gifting#services
and have it shipped to your parents. That way warranty will not be an issue, nor will carrier support if you're getting a cellular iPad.

Update your safari.  Install this:  http://support.apple.com/kb/dl1569
The itunes store relies on certain components of safari, regardless of if you use it or not.
