I would like to update my old Pages 3.0.3 to the newer 4.3.  Do I need to just purchase it new, or is there an update available?

I would like to upgrade my old Pages 3.0.3 to a newer version.  When I went to the app store I got a message that says "Pages 3.0.3 is already installed and was not purchased from the Mac App Store.  Do you want to buy Pages 4.3?"
I thought I was just buying an upgrade, but now I'm not sure.  If I buy the new one, will all my old stuff still be there?

There has never been an upgrade path from one version of iWork to the next. Each is a separate purchase & installation.
You can have more than one version of iWork installed. I have iWork '06, '08 & '09 installed on my iMac. The only reason I don't have iWork '05 is that those are PPC apps, but I do have it installed on my G5 iMac. You shouldn't be storing any documents or, even, templates in the iWork folders in Applications so they would not be lost. The only thing that might happen is that you save them as Pages 4 they will no longer be able to be opened by Pages 3.
