I would like to use my early 2008 imac as an external monitor in the 2012 mac mini

I would like to use my early 2008 imac (MB325LL/A) as an external monitor for the late 2012 mac mini,(not ordered yet). Is this possible in any manner? The iMac utilizes mini-DVI output, thus my hopes are not too good.
Thanks,

  • Using ADC Monitor with the new Mac Mini

My husband has an Apple monitor with an ADC connection. I would like to purchase the new Mac Mini, but would like to use his current monitor. I know there is an ADC to DVI adapter, but the new Mac Mini uses the Mini Display...could I use yet another adapter? I am trying to save money, but don't want to the display quality to be really poor. Space is not an issue. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have located that, but my concern is the DVI connection to the Mini Display connection on the Mac Mini. My understanding is that they are different.

  • HT3021 Can an e-mac be used as a monitor for the current mac mini?

Can I use an e-mac for a monitor with a new mac mini?

Not outside of Virtual Network Computing, which requires a separate monitor to set up.

  • Can i use my 21.5" imac as an external monitor for my macbook pro?

I have a 21.5" iMac (with Intel processor) that I'm trying to use an external monitor for a new Macbook Pro.  Both machines have a thunderbolt input.  I bought a Belkin mini displayport to mini displayport connector, but my macbook is not displaying on the iMac.  I saw videos online showing this done with the 27" iMac, saying you just needed to press Command+F2, but that is not working for me.  I can't seem to find any posts confiming if I can use my 21.5" iMac this way though.

  • Can I use 21.5-inch iMac as an external monitor?

    I have an ASUS laptop.
Does this iMac support to be an external monitor to display the content in my laptop?

No, only some 27" models support DisplayPort Input.

  • I would like to use firefox to access two different yahoo email accounts at the same time. I am using Firefox 4 with Windows 7 Home Premium. Can you help?

This might be solved using two sessions. How do I do that?

You should be able to do this by using the Multifox add-on - http://br.mozdev.org/multifox/

  • I would like to use Adobe Lightoom on multiple computers. Must I buy the software for each computer?

    Everything said is in title.
    Thank you!

A single Lightroom license entitles you to install the program on two computers, Windows or Mac or both. But it is for your own personal use only, not for multiple users. If you want to install on multiple computers for multiple users then you need a license for each computer and user.

  • Please help in my problem I would like to use one wireless internet provider not every single one in the neighborhood. Thank you in advance for the information how to shut of any other providors such as Netgear(that keeps popping up)

only want one internet service provider but have every single one popping up in the neighborhood.

What you are seeing aren't "service providers", they are your neighbors wireless networks. Assuming you have provided your own wireless network with a unique name it should be easy to select, and once you sign on to it, your MBA should pick it up and automatically sign you in. The visibility of the other networks would be moot.

  • How can I use my Late 2009 iMac as an external monitor with my new MacBook Pro 15" Retina

I want to use my iMac (Late 2009) as an external Display for my new 15" MacBook Pro Retina, I need to know what Cables to use so I can go buy them the Apple Store, I already tried a thunderbolt cable between the two and that doesn't work, but I think this might
              iMAC                                                                                 MBP 15" Retina
Mini display Port to VGA adaptor -> VGA Cable -> Mini Display Cable to VGA adaptor
    or maybe
Mini Display port to HDMI adaptor -> HDMI Cable -> HDMI Port on MBP
Pleae help I can't seem to figure it out online.
    Thanks!

    Hello, All-
I too am very interested in the answer to this query. Same set up, same fail w/the Thunderbolt cable. The Genius Bar at the Apple Store was no help & recommended I bring my 27" iMac into the store...seriously? Their ultimate answer was that I needed a plain old male-male mini display port cable....that the Thunderbolt cable was the problem. Bloody unlikely, I say. Another guy in the store agreed with me this morning, so swapped out the cable. I was hoping upon hope it was a bad cable, but no such luck—still nothing. Next I tried a mini-display-port-to-DVI adapter—DVI cable—mini-display-port-to-DVI adapter. This also did not work. Is there a chance that the iMac running Snow Leopard and the MacBook running Mountain Lion is the problem???

Thank you in advance if you can please help me.

Sorry no, this one > Mini DisplayPort to DVI Adapter - Apple Store (U.S.) plugged into the combination Thunderbolt/Mini Display port and then a DVI-D cable to the monitor.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
For homesharing to work, all devices need to be on the same network.

  • App Nap Running on early 2008 iMac

My understanding was that App Nap couldn't run on an early 2008 desktop iMac?
Yet, the Energy tab in Activity Monitor from time to time shows App Nap as active for the Finder!
If this is true, it might explain some of the sluggishness of my iMac since installing Mavericks ... ?

All the Intel iMacs have the same procedure, as far as I know.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1543
Without specifically mentioning "SMC," this procedure (below) is in the trouble-shooting section of the +early 2008+ iMac's little printed manual
"Unplug the power cord and wait at least 30 seconds. Plug the power cord back in
and press the power button again to start up your iMac."
