I would like USA Today to be my homepage whenever I open Safari. I went to Safari preferences and specified this, but it is opening to the last website that was up when I last closed out of Safari. What should I do?

This is normal, if your System Preferences are configured thus:
Check the box if you don't want Safari to reopen the windows that were open last time you used it.

There are six devices which include iPad and iPhone. These items are grayed and you are unable to change. Also on my iphone it lists the computer name. This name is different from name of my computer. It's what I signed in as when I installed the Mountain Lion upgrade. I know I'm not doing a good job of explaining this. I have searched everywhere on my computer that I can think of and cannot locate where this is used. Any suggestions are appreciated.

I installed Lion on my late-2009 Mac Mini a few weeks ago. Within the last week, a strange problem has cropped up. Just a few minutes after reboot, my Mac Mini stops opening applications. I can try to open applications from the dock, or the Applications folder, or Launchpad, and nothing opens. Applications that have already been opened appear to be unaffected, as long as I don't close them. If I quit an application, I cannot re-open it.
This does not appear to be related to any updates or changes. The problem began while my Mac Mini was on 10.7.1, and persisted after an upgrade to 10.7.2.Hello, how exactly did you move these other files, & what were they?

Have you tried un-installing that Yahoo Toolbar extension from Firefox?
Tools > Add-ons > Extensions <br />
Locate that extension in the list, and click on it. You should see an '''Uninstall''' button, use it, and then restart Firefox. -
i cannot access my itunes account when i try to sign into itunes. it keeps saying the itunes store is temporarily unavailable, but i can sign into the apple website.
That means you have to sign into/view your account and review you account and make sure you have a valid payment method specified in your account.

My Safari 5.1.2 Just won't open to my home page even though I have it set in preferences. It continues to open on the last page I was on when I last closed Safari. What overrides my settings in preferences?
I just purchased my first MAC after working on PC for the past 25 years and would like to know how to keep my safari program to be the full screen everytime I get into the app. I always have to click the two arrows to the top right of the safari program but on a PC it is always opened in full screen mode ??? and while I have you plugged in how do you make it so that the manu bar does not go away (hyernate??)

This all started by certain sites not opening, like USA Today; Intellicast.com. Installed Maverics yesterday successfully and the web sites very briefly worked and then starting failing again. Called tech support and couldn't download their remote login code. From Safari's viewpoint thought there might be a problem with Adobe Flash. So deleted that and then tried to download the installer code from Adobe and that wouldn't download. Suggestions would be appreciated.
Firefox can find plugins in several locations, but Firefox 21 changed the location of the "shared" plugin folder so older installers like the Microsoft Windows Media Plugin no longer drop the DLL file in the correct location.
There apparently are two ways to address this:
(1) Change a Firefox preference so that Firefox checks the old location. Here's how:
(i) In a new tab, type or paste '''about:config''' in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.
(ii) In the filter box, type or paste '''plugins''' and pause while the list is filtered
(iii) Double-click '''plugins.load_appdir_plugins''' to switch its value from false to true.
This will take effect after you restart Firefox.
(2) Copy the plugins folder to the new location. Here's how on Win 7 64-bit:
Open a Windows Explorer window to:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
Right-click and copy the '''Plugins''' folder
Double-click the '''browser''' folder to open it
Right-click and paste
Right-click the new copy of '''Plugins''' and rename it to '''plugins'''
After restarting Firefox, the plugins in that folder should now be available.

I am having trouble with my iPod 5th gen after iOS update. It's in recovery mode and iTunes keeps timing out when I try to restore it. What should I do??? If possible, I would also like to keep all of my data.

As with all clickwheel iPods, you can reset this iPod by first toggling the hold switch on and off and then simultaneously pressing the select (center) and menu buttons for approximately 5-10 seconds. This is a common fix should your iPod behave unexpectedly or lock up. Once reset, the iPod should display an Apple logo for a few seconds before showing the main menu. If your phone is carrier locked, contact your carrier about International provisioning, if you want to use your phone functions out of the country. You would pick a plan/carrier where you plan on traveling & pay your US carrier. Not cheap, but your phone would work as a phone. If your phone is officially unlocked, you can use local sims when you get where you are going. Phone functions work & this is the cheapest option if you want to use your phone, as a phone. Otherwise, put your phone in Airplane mode. This turns off all iPhone radios, but you can go back into settings & turn both WiFi & Bluetooth back on. While your phone won't work as a phone, you can still have Internet access when connected to WiFi.

I use firefox to work. I'm web developer and in the firefox have instlalled 3 complements and 8 plugs.
When use Firefox, and in different tabs open: GMAIL, web normaly, other web, google, conection with my server plesk, ...
Normaly use 6 to 8 tabs in differents sites, some moments firefox run very slow, at the moment, in one web, it stop, dont run and response.
Than, I close firefox, pause 10 seconds to firefox service stop and reopen, it open all the last webs and popups visited today.
Sometimes, it even opens popups that had been closed for some time ago, sometimes it crashes.
In the same day, it success two or three times.It is possible that there is a problem with the files sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.
Delete the files sessionstore.js [2] and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.

If you see files sessionstore-##.js with a number in the left part of the name like sessionstore-1.js then delete those as well.<br />
Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups and open and closed (undo) tabs to get lost, so you will have to create them again (make a note or bookmark them).

Lately, I've been getting a blue screen in the midst of working and have to do a cold reboot to end it. Seems to happen when I'm closing windows or quitting applications. Not always, but sporadically. What causes this? I'm using 10.6.8 on early 2011 MBP. Thanks for any help/advice!
You have 10.6 on that machine, I suggest you stick with it for performance, third party hardware and software reasons as long as possible.
Consider 10.8 (not 10.7) when it's released, because 10.7 and 10.8 will require a new investment in software and newer third party hardware as it requires newer drivers the old machines won't have. (forced upgrade because of software, really nice of them)

Far as your Safari problem do these things until it's resolved:
1: Software Update fully under the Apple menu.
2: Check the status of your plug-ins and update (works for all browsers) also install Firefox and see if your problems continue. You should always have at least two browsers on the machine just in case one fails.

whenever I open firefox after closing it down, it always opens with the last page I was on. I have the settings to point to a specific homepage and have it set to always open on the homepage, but it doesn't.
I am having a similar problem, I'm using "Show my home page" on start-up but firefox decides to always open to the last page visited regardless. I also generally close Firefox using the red X or with alt+f4. This problem is especially annoying when the last page 'visited' is an annoying pop-up ad that wasn't been caught by the pop-up blocker.

Everytime I open iphoto, my computer tells me, A photo has been found in the iPhoto Library that was not imported. Would you like to import it. If I import it, a message comes up Unreadable file, the following file could not be imported. them it tells me where the file is and it cannot be opened. If I do not import, then it says,The photo has been placed in the folder /Users/patrick*******/Pictures/iPhoto Library Recovered Photos_4. It will just keep adding to recvovered photos. This drives me crazy!!!!!!! How do I fix this?
I had this problem some months ago and the following solution from Terrence Delvin put things right:
Go to your Pictures Folder and find the iPhoto Library there. Right (or Control-) Click on the icon and select 'Show Package Contents'. A finder window will open with the Library exposed.
Look there for a Folder called 'Import' or 'Importing'.
Drag it to the Desktop. *Make no other changes*.
Start iPhoto. Does that help?
If it does then look inside that folder on your desktop. Does it contain anything you want? If not you can trash the folder.
However, since connecting a memory stick to my computer, I now have the same problem again. This time there is no folder called 'Import' or 'Importing' so what should I do?
