I would need several version of a package

I think I saw this somewhere on Arch web site : only one version of each package, latest one.
But, I need several version of some packages.
I'm a developer, and I need apache tomcat 4 & 5 (web server mostly use version 4).
The same for php, I need version 4 as I have to use this version for some project.
I would also need mysql version 4.0 (and latest 3;XX) because I have to use them at work for various resons.
There are many example. I know I can install these manually, but it's a shame as there is a powerful package manager.
I don"t say that every packages sould have several version, but some obviously need.
Is there any plan on adding such a feature ?

you have the tools to host local repositories with the olser packages you need. you can get old build from the web interface to the CVS and all you would have to do is change some destination locations so that the older or newer packages are not replacing each other.
As for official Arch support ... it may someday happen but only if there are the people who need and one of them want sto maintain the packages

  • Git-based version of a package was deleted

    There is this openblas-lapack package in the AUR which was flagged out-of-date about a week ago. I saw that and made a PKGBUILD which compiles openblas-lapack from its git master branch. You can take a look at the PKGBUILD on github.
    After that I created a package openblas-lapack-git and submitted a merge request with openblas-lapack. Today I got two messages in my mailbox: the first one saying that my merge was accepted and the second one saying that the package openblas-lapack-git was deleted.
    I checked out the openblas-lapack PKGBUILD --- it got updated from using the OpenBLAS-v0.2-13.tar-gz to the 0.2-14 version. But the PKGBUILD is not using openblas-lapack git master branch. So, in a nutshell, the original PKGBUILD got updated and the *-git version of the package got deleted.
    Personally, I was expecting that one of the two scenarios would happen:
    1) the merge request gets accepted and the *-git version of the package takes over the one that uses *.tar.gz sources.
    2) the merge request gets denied with some reason like "packages that depend on openblas-lapack might not expect it to be the latest version from git" but openblas-lapack-git stays in the AUR.
    Please tell me what happens when somebody suggests a git-based version of a PKGBUILD.

    As I replied in your email, you filed a request to merge openblas-lapack-git INTO openblas-lapack [1].
    From your email and from this message I understand that that wasn't your intention but I simply found your request and after checking that you're the package maintainer I've accepted it, merging openblas-lapack-git into openblas-lapack package (which later deletes the first package).
    If you were the package maintainer of both packages you should have filed an inverse request, to merge the openblas-lapack into openblas-lapack-git.
    As you're not the openblas-lapack package I cannot accept any request from you to merge the openblas-lapack package into openblas-lapack-git package.
    If you want to keep your openblas-lapack-git package please upload it again. If you need a copy of the original AUR package you can find it on the git [2]

    i have installed j2sdk1.5.0 then installed j2ee1.4,then installed Weblogic6.1 which use jdk1.3
    Now the JRE is jdk1.3\bin
    When run class that was compiled with jdk1.5,throw:
    java.lang.UnsupportedClassVersionError
    How can i change the jre to 1.5?

    There is a workaround to move from 1.5 version to the older 1.4 version. But this could be specific to the browser setting the JRE version.

    My system (Windows XP) has the version 1.5_09 set as the default. However i just installed JRE 1.5_06 and would like to revert back to _06 as the default JRE..

    This is a basic computer skill you might want to learn. You can always control which application opens any document, and the steps below apply to any Mac or Windows computer you use:

  • Errors with Time Machine (not completing backup, and needing to erase the ".inProgress" package)

    I have in a previous discussion been talking about errors with my Time Machine backup.  The errors were with a problem with Indexing a file, it fails and stops the whole backup.  Each time it attemps another backup, it fills my ".inProgress" package with a (nearly) whole backup, filling my Time Machine hard drive, and thus errasing my previous good backups.  The error occurs after about 95% completion.
    In my last post of a similar disscussion, the problem was indexing the Preference Pane files and this caused the whole backup to fail.  This was my last post there:  (below in some additional info of my situation)
    I did exclude the MobileMe.prefPane.  And I got:

    This time it was the Mouse.prefPane that caused the error.  I'd like to exclude the entire PreferencePanes directory.
    This was my error message this time:
    I just realized this was on my small Developers partition.  Perhaps there is an error with the build, OR an error with the initial restore.  I'd like to perhaps exclude the entire /Volumes/Mac OS Lion GM.  I expect that Time Machine is working fine with my main partition and the error happens when it's almost done with the Mac OS Lion GM partition.
    The problem now is that I only have 265 GB of 3 TB available on my Time Machine HDD.  If attempt another backup, it'll surely erase about 410 GB of my past saved backups.  I've already lost 6 months, and I only have two months left of backups.  I need to erase the ".inProgress" package again.  That'll take time, and it's impossible to do from this main partition, even at root access.  This ".inProgress" has a total of two (nearly) full backups; it didn't cleanup the first full backup attempt while starting the second,perhaps it would have had it finished.  But I fear even if I exclude the whole "Mac OS Lion GM" partition,  It'll create a third full backup before cleanup and erase ~400 GB of previous good backups.  Then, I'll have a total of 4 (nearly) full backups!  3 TB is just enough without any past backups.
    Maybe I'll just copy my documentations of my 'errasing the ".inProgress" package'  last time (from the Mac OS Lion GM partition) and do a full restore of just that partition.  Thus erasing the errors all together.  If it doesn't fix the errors then this could be a bug in the build that doesn't allow Time Machine to work.  I've always included this partition in Time Machine before, even with other Lion builds, so I suspect that it was an error in the initial restore.  (I may be answering my own questions, and that the inital restore (of the small partition) is the problem, and I just need to re-restore the small partition)
    Again, I'm going to have to erase the ".inProgress" file to regain 1.53 TB of space before proceeding.
    Also, I gave myself permission to read the ".Backup.345781513.887697.log", the log that was created last night when I first started Time Machine this last time.  It was interesting, but didn't show the error I could see from the console.
    Right now, mds and mdworker appear to be going crazy even after I just now turned off Time Machine.  I think I'll let it go for the rest of the night.  Then I'll work on erasing the ".inProgress" package from the other partition boot up.
    That was my entire last post.  To add some information, I have two OS X partitons, both Mac OS X Lion.  One is my large main partition, the other is one I don't mind testing with.  I recently replaced my internal hard drive in my iMac and restored from Time Machine both partitions.  This appeared to go smoothly.  But I have yet to create a single successful Time Machine backup since.  At first it was doing a Full Backup, which I didn't like, but now it just aborts around 95% completion.  Each, time, it tries it fills the Time Machine hard drive with duplicate (nearly) full backups errasing my older good backups.  I would like to erase the ".inProgress" file to save space.
    My main question in this new discussion is does anyone know of a good way of erasing the ".inProgress" file? This is so I can preseerve my previous backups.  ACLs and other permissions seem to make it impossible to erase from this startup partition, the one I'm running Time Machine from.  Even at root level, if I give myself permission to change permissions or delete a file, it'll say Operation not Permitted instead of Permission Denied.  I have been able to delete this ".inProgress" package before when booting from the other  partition, but with great difficulty.  I have had much help from another Member in this Support Community when it comes to solving my Time Machine problems.  I think I have found the problem (indexing files in my small OS X partition), as stated in my copy& pasted post above, but I really need to delete this inProgress package first to save space before continuing!

    I never got an indexing error once in the past 2 weeks for that large Mac OS X v10.7.2 main volume, and it had appeared to finish that partition backup before running into problems with my smaller test partition.  Also, I had just updated the smaller test partition with a later build of Mac OS X.  But It appears that the beta builds are clearly not the problem.  I thought I could just restore again (from the December 4th backup) the small partition and both would be fine.
    I'll finish reviewing all the suggestions on Time Machine - Troubleshooting and go from there.  Hopefully, the _spotlight indexing simutaniously was the only problem.  It's strange that the indexing hasn't happened since the original restore last week untill I finally got a good clean complete partial Time Machine backup.  Why would the first Time Machine backup trigger indexing again?
    For now, I'm going to exclude the Main Partition again, and let another good backup run.  And try your suggestions.  (And wait till mds, mdworker, etc. to finish!)
    I have the logs of the first two sucsessful backups and the last two failed backups from the last 3 hours, if that would help.?

  • HT1926 Have new generation 6 nano.  Was able to install version 8 of itunes but error reads that this version with Vista needs newer version.  Have tried to install 10.1 but it installs only part way then installs itself part way through.  Help.

    The solution Lijoesat posted above worked for me!
    First I found the private/var/folders/ (and then lots of gibberish folders) and singled out two garageband files and deleted them. This did not work.
    I then deleted everything which may or may not be a good thing, I am an idiot, I have no idea if these are extremely important files or not!
    I tried to empty the trash bin after but many files was locked and Garageband would still not install.
    I did a restart of the computer, emptied the bin successfully and tried to install Garageband again and it worked fine!
    The inserted picture show some of the folder structure, I deleted everything after private/var/folders/

    how can i completely remove all of them and only then install the latest jsdk?

    Version conflicts are a rarity in Java. The latest JRE is usually utilised unless otherwise specified.
    Only one JRE can be used at any one time by one program on Windows anyway. It does get crowded sometimes however - just uninstall as you would any other program with the Control Panel::Add/Remove Programs.
    Personally I keep all of my JREs on my machine for several reasons and I recommend keeping it this way.

    You can install as many different releases of Sun Studio as you like on one computer. You don't need Solaris 10, and you don't need zones. You need to pay attention to only 2 things.
    1. You need to install each release in a different base directory. You can install at most one release in the default location, /opt. Other releases need to be installed each in a different location.
    2. You should have at most one release directory on your path at a time, to avoid accidently mixing components from different releases. If you use the GUI for development, make sure the release directory on your path (if you have one) is the one you intend to use. The GUI checks your path first for compilers. If none are found, the GUI uses its own compilers.

    To find out the version our SSIS Package, we need to read the .dtsx file itself. We can open the file by using different programs such as Notepad. The .dtsx files are xml files and the property we need to look for is "PackageFormatVersion".
    Based on my research, in SQL Server 2005 Integration Services, the PackageFormatVersion property of a .dtsx file is set to 2; in SSIS 2008 and SSIS 2008 R2, the PackageFormatVersion value is to set to 3. In SSIS 2012, the value of the PackageFormatVersion
    property is 6; in SSIS 2014, the value of the PackageFormatVersion property is 8.

    Created  an installer i.e, meta package using package maker tool. I want  to prevent downgrading of the application or package on the target/installed volume. 
    Problem is, if there is a newer version of app and when I try to install any older version, then it does not throw any error message to the end user and replaces the existing newer version with the older version of app, which should not happen. But, if I check the package version using version comparison of Package  maker tool, that works fine with flat packages i.e, with the .pkg files. So, I need the solution for metapackages(.mpkg) and want to prevent downgrading of app for metapackages. I am not getting any solutions for this. Can someone guide me on this?

  • Best way to organize several versions of Photoshop Elements to conserve disk space?

    I have Elements 9, 11, and now Version 12. I am wondering if I should import into Version 12's Organizer all of my previous photo files, then delete or uninstall the older versions of PhotoShop Elements?
    Currently running Windows 7 - 64 bit with latest SP installed. I would like to try and keep the hard disk storage fairly lean, and can't help but wonder about the space that is being taken up by having all of these versions of Elements installed! Any advice would be welcome.  Thanks for your replies and insights!

    Thank you so much for your input! I sometimes feel that I must be increditable stupid as I try to get BOTH organized but also learn how to use all of the features found in Photoshop Elements. Part of the reason that I say this, is because I have always been pressed for time, so I try & do one most pressing thing, that usually doesn't turn out quite like it was described it would or could be, and then I'm off to take care of more pressing issues, and don't get back to trying it after days or weeks have passed, so its kinda of like starting all over again.

    The organizer does not store your photos, only links to their locations on the hard disk. So all your different versions will be looking at the same image file, so no duplication of the photos themselves.
    If you find yourself using features in 9 or 11 that were removed in later versions (e.g. interactive photomerge, magic extractor, lighting effects etc ...) I'd be inclined to leave them installed unless you are critically short of disk space.

  • Iphoto transfer from disc says need latest version?

    Hello--it took me days to figure out how to post so I apologize if messing up protocol, but have looked for hours and can't find an answer that isn't too confusing technologically.
    My sister burned photo's from my LG onto a disk with her Mac laptop. When I insert the disk I get a message saying I have iphoto 9 but need the latest version. I thought that was the latest version and don't know where to find it if it's not.
    Have never used iphoto before. Checked software updates and read answers in other posts but still confused. I am on Mac OSX 10.5.8. (I'm afraid to try anything not spelled out as my husband already managed to lose photo booth icon on dock and in apps.)
    Can anyone help a girl/moron out, even she probably won't be able to find the response?

    If your sister burned pictures from iPhoto to a CD/DVD then you would need to have at least the same version of iPhoto that she has to read the disk in iPhoto.
    To find out what version of iPhoto you have:
    - Open iPhoto
    - Go to the menu "iPhoto" and choose "About iPhoto"
    --- You will probably have iPhoto 7.x.x or 8.x.x
    The most recent version of iPhoto 7 is 7.1.5 . The most recent version of iPhoto 8 is 8.1.2.
    If you have a lower number than either one of these then go to the Apple menu and run all your software updates.
    If you still cannot load the disk into iPhoto directly you can still get the pictures off.
    Double-click on the disk on your desktop. Go into the folder called "library" and drag the folder called "Originals" to your desktop. Allow this to copy. Once the copy is complete eject the disk.
    Now drag the folder "Originals" from the desktop into the open iPhoto window. This will copy all the pictures from the folder on the desktop into iPhoto. You can then put the originals folder in the trash.
