MBP's cannot have the CPU upgraded. You will need to replace the complete machine if you want to go from a dual core to a quad core.

  • I tried to install OS X Mavericks but my Mac Book Pro (of mid-2009 with OS X 10.7.5) crashed

I tried to install OS X Mavericks but my Mac Book Pro (of mid-2009 with OS X 10.7.5) crashed. I had to change the Hard Disk. How can I install OS X Mavericks on my Mac laptop safely without going to another crash? I checked and found that my lap top is eligible for the upgrade to Mavericks. Can't understand what happened. Please help and advise how to do the upgrading. Thanks.

I could not report the crash as my lap top was out of order. So now it's working. Should I report the crash and to whom? Do you have any link for that?

  • Mac Book Pro from mid 2009 compatability with Apple displays

Is my Mac Book Pro from mid 2009 compatible with the Apple Cinema 23" Displays from circa 2005?

    Here is the link:

Make sure the pins are correct for it. There is DVI-D as well so you need to double check that you are purchasing the correct one.

i have tried buying a new charger incase this was the problem, it wasnt, it just wont icharge/turn on at all, im just wondering would apple replace it, as  am a student and need a computer and this is my only one?

Sorry no Apple will not replace it. What happened was an accident and the Apple warranty does not cover accidental damages.
So it looks like you will need to buy a new computer or pay to have your Mac fixed.

And if it supports 802.11a or 802.11b it may not offer the full WPA2 encryption, in which case you want to be at least 1500 feet (500 meters) from the nearest neighbor to ensure a secure connection.  802.11g supports WPA2 as well, and is also supported by the MacBook Pro.  It just is slower at 33 Mbps.

If you keep getting a 'red' message it means that the HDD is faulty and will have to be replaced.  You will have to format the new HDD in Disk Utility>Erase and then install the OSX and your data from Time Machine.

  • Hard Disk Recovery from a Dead Mac Book Pro 13inch

What is the best way to recover information on your hard disk from a mac book pro that will not start from water damage?

When my daughter's MBP died due to drop-related damage, I removed the hard drive and placed it in this enclosurehttp://eshop.macsales.com/item/OWC/ES2.5BPU2S/ and she now connects it to her new MBP by the USB port when she wants material from the old drive.
For less than $20 it is pretty hard to go wrong.

my mac book pro mountion lion system  login screen background wont show and only shows a light white/blue as the background how can i fix it ? i tried everything from loginox to onyx and it still wont solve the problem. instead of the default dark grey startup screen  the background is white with a blue tint to it. the only time that the default background shows is when i log off and relog in

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
I think that your Mac detects your hard disk, but the problem is that your new hard disk doesn't contain any operating system, so your Mac doesn't find any bootable partition and you see a question mark.
If your Mac came with DVDs, insert the Mac OS X Install DVD and hold the C key while your Mac is starting. Then, just install Mac OS X. If the hard disk isn't prepared to install Mac OS X, you will have to erase it using "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)". See > http://pondini.org/OSX/DU1.html

  • 17 inch mac book pro replacement screens ?

Does anyone know of a reliable source to obtain a replacement or get fixed my 17 inch mac book pro mid 2009 anti glare screen.
    Thanks in advance

If the screen is still available in Apple's parts stock (and I'm thinking that it should be) then you can simply go to the 'genius bar," tell the rep what you want and get an estimate for replacing the screen. I wouldn't give up a 17" model, either. Even though they don't make a 17" model currently, they should still stock parts for older models. If the genius tells you that they can't service the machine, ask to speak to an actual technician.
    Best of luck,

  • Mac Book Pro (15", late 2009) Can't Enter Password

Suddenly, our new Mac Book Pro will not sign on to our home airport network.
Whenever we try to activate airport and log on, we receive the same error message: password invalid.
We have an AirPort Extreme (802.11n) using WPA2 Personal. We completely reset it after this problem arose, but the problem persists.
Our other Mac Book Pro logs on with no problem, as does our iMac.
All the software on the problem Mac Book Pro is up to date, as is the firmware on the Airport Extreme.
We are at our wits end. Ideas?
    Thanks.

You might try resetting your connection settings using the steps listed in this message:

They're not guaranteed to solve the problem, but they'll only take you a minute or so to try.

  • Anomaly on 17 inch Mac Book Pro glossy Screen

Hello everyone. I hope someone can help me. I feel very unhappy and frustrated about my Mac Book Pro purchase. I bought it at an Apple store in San Diego while I was on vacation in the United States. Unfortunaty I bought it two days before I had to go back to Barcelona, Spain. The first day I realized that there was a much lighter section of the screen that looked like a white stain when the background was black. Then I passed a micro fiber cloth over the stain and the illuminated white circle disappeared. I was relieved. But, to my horror, after closing the Mac Book Pro and opening it later again, the white stain was there again. No matter how many times I remove the stain by rubbing the screen, after closing it, it will reappear.
Can someone tell me what problem may my screen have? Is it defective?
If so, what should I do? It is really bothersome. Since, I am not in the U.S.A. any longer, could I have the screen or the computer replaced by a local one?
I would appreciate any advice anyone could give me.
Thank you very much in advance.
    Best regards,
    Jordi

Well, you asking for help on a problem that is visual. From a rough guess, on the problem you describe, it could simply be uneven backlighting.
Some MacBook Pro's suffer from uneven backlighting and/or grainy screen appearance.
The best bet is to call Apple and find a authorized repair center, if one exist, in Spain. Does Apple have an online store for Spain? If so they would have to support the product. I would look online for help and support numbers.
The worse case scenario is that you ship it to a friend in San Diego and have them take it to the local Apple Store to be repaired. Apple support follows the serial of the computer primary, so there should not be an issue with a friend taking it in to be serviced.
