I7 2.0GHz upto 3.2GHz or i7 2.9 Ghz upto 3.6 GHz processor

2.9GHz Dual-core Intel Core i7, Turbo Boost up to 3.6GHz
8GB 1600MHz DDR3 SDRAM — 2x4GB
2.0GHz Intel Dual-Core Core i7, Turbo Boost up to 3.2GHz
8GB 1600MHz DDR3L SDRAM
The first one is a MacBook Pro. The second set of configurations is MacBook Air. I am personally not a fan of MacBook Pro. How much difference will these two processors make? 2.0 Ghz or 2.9 Ghz? All the other configuration is the same, so is the price. The only difference is these two processors. How much of an impact will the GHz make in this case?

Well, I have a 2012 13 Inch Macbook Air with the 1.8GHz/4GB/128GB configuration and a 2011 13 Inch 2.4GHz Macbook Pro.
I've always felt the Macbook Air being a faster machine because of the flash storage.  Once i've upgraded the the 13 Inch Macbook Pro to 16GB of RAM and 240GB Kingston Hyper X SSD - it's now up to par to my Macbook Air.
You might not see a significant speed difference - the 2.0GHz Macbook Air might seem to be faster because of the flash storage as opposed to the 5400RPM hard drive of the Macbook Pro.
If however, you check out everymac.com, you will see the difference between the two. the 2.9GHz is 1000 points ahead of the 2.0GHz Macbook Air.
Click on either the Macbook Air or Macbook Pro and compare the geekbench scores and decide from there.
As for myself - I prefer the Macbook Air for it's portability when I travel and when i'm not traveling, I use my Macbook Pro for the processing power.
In any event, just make sure if you decide to go for the Macbook Air - just make sure you max it out if you're planning to keep it for a few years since RAM is not user upgreadable.
Good luck

  • Is there a huge difference between the 2.0GHz and 2.2GHz MBP's?

I am wondering if there is a really big difference between the two models?  The 2.0GHz model seems fine for doing college homework, papers, power point, photo editing, video editing, web surfing, not a heavy gamer, I make podcasts and YouTube videos.  This is what I mainly do...  Can someone tell me if maybe I might have to get the 2.2GHz?  Thanks!

Spend the little more money for the 2.2Ghz your graphics potential is awesome and thus future proofs your machine a lot longer than 2.0 which the integrated and the discrete graphics are about the same lousy performance.
Also your resale value will be much higher and more willing buyers if you should ever need too.

  • Difference between MacBook Pro 15in 2.0GHZ & 2.2GHZ

    Hello -
I am thinking about purchasing a 15in MacBook Pro.  Two questions:
    1) Is it worth to pay the extra $300 for .2GHZ of processor speed, 250GB of extra hard disk space, and a slightly better video card?
    2) also - is there a major difference between 2.0GHZ and 2.2GHZ in terms of processor speed?  Computer will be used for iPhoto, iMovie, email, iTunes, etc.  Basic stuff.
    Thanks!!!

The real difference is not so much in published clock speed but the processor capability. The 2.0ghz MBP has a Core Duo processor--it's 32-bit. The 2.2 is a Core 2 Duo and is 64-bit capable. Snow Leopard runs like a dream on my 2.2 MBP and everything possible is set to 64-bit mode. This computer is much faster with 10.6 than it ever was with 10.5. Functionally, the 2.2 will be the better performer as more apps become 64-bit capable.
I am sorry, this is incorrect information.  The 2.0 and the 2.2 are both Core i7 Sandy Bridge processors from Intel; both are 64bit architecture and both have 4 processor cores.  When it comes to the difference between processors there is just a slight speed bump.
The main reason to upgrade from the 2.0 to the 2.2 is the graphics card.  If you are going to be using the machine for graphics intensive work flow, then it would be advisable to upgrade.  If you are only anticipating using your machine for the basic tasks which you listed, there really is no reason for the bump up, in my opinion.  Especially since most of the tasks you listed will not even be possessed by AMDs graphics processor.  Only graphics intensive tasks will get shifted to AMD's processor, the rest will be handled by Intel's integrated graphics built into the Core i7 chipset.  You would do better to invest your money in a RAM upgrade; 8 gigs would do very nicely.
I personally bought the 2.0 15" MBP with 8 gigs of RAM and a solid state hard-drive.  I too am using my machine for more or less basic tasks and I am very pleased with the performance.

  • I have a macbook, 2Ghz 10.5.8 which is running out of room. Should I add all memory I can and will upgrading to mountain Lion use that all up before i even begin?

I have a macbook using 10.5.8, 2 Gb memory which is running out of room. I use it mostly for photos/videos. How much memory can i add and when i upgrade through snow leopard to mountain lion what will it cost andwill that use up all the newly added memory?

You can put in any 2.5" form factor SATA drive that is 9.5mm or less in height. For RAM we need to know whether you have the 2.0 Ghz or 2.13 Ghz processor model 5.2 MacBook. The model 5,2 (Early 2009, 2.0GHz Model Only) can use 6gb of 200 pin 667mhz PC2-5300 RAM. The model 5,2 (Mid 2009, 2.13GHz Model Only) can use 6gb of 200 pin 800mhz PC2-6400 RAM.

To transfer your current hard drive I like the free application SuperDuper. It makes a bootable copy of everything on your hard drive http://www.shirt-pocket.com/SuperDuper/SuperDuperDescription.html  You'll need a cheap SATA external hard drive case. Put the new drive in the case then format and partition the new drive and clone your old drive to the new one. Check that it's set up right by booting up from the external drive. Then replace your old hard drive with the new one and put your old one in the external case.

  • Z77 gd55

1st up, great looking board, so much nicer on the eye that some others and its better in person than on screen but i do have a couple of issues.
first of the bios, its not showing right on my screen. i think its because my screen is only reporting as a generic pnp screen so its only running at a low res and everything is over lapped. need to force it to something that shows all the bios options as i am only able to select settings, eco or oc genie modes and need to use cursor keys blind to get other options.
can you make it force a res which shows all options please?
2nd thing is my ram, i have mushkin #996997 and the only way to get them to work at the rated speed was to manually set all the timings as the xmp would cause it to just hang and not post and only setting the main timings would cause it to bootloop. i think this is because these sticks have 2 xmp profiles and the bios is only giving on or off options and if its on which timings is it using? as these sticks wont do 2133mhz cas 7 without scarey amounts of sa volts :D
last thing is to do with overclocking, i know this cpu and have had it 100% load stable at 4.8ghz and posting upto 5.2ghz in my other 1155 board but in this it is throttling back to 4.4ghz no matter what i do. i have seen people on other forums say that the board is limiting the cpu to 130w which while i can understand that for the new ivy cpu i dont need or want it on a sandy cpu as these have no heat issues once you get past that.

yes, being able to see what i am doing would be a massive help

  • Age of Empries III w/ expansions on Macbook

    Hi,
I was curious if the game Ages of Empire III with its expansion packs would run well on the macbook, not the macbook pro IN boot camp
Here's the requirements for the game on windows
    * Microsoft® Windows® XP
    * PC with 1.4 GHz equivalent or higher processor
    * 256 MB of system RAM
    * 2 GB available hard disk space
    * 32x speed or faster CD-ROM drive
    * 64 MB video card with support for hardware transformation and lighting required
    * Sound card, speakers or headphones required for audio
    * Microsoft Mouse or compatible pointing device
    * 56.6 Kbps or better modem for online play
And here's the specs on the macbook
    * 2.0GHz or 2.2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor
    * 4MB shared L2 cache running at full processor speed
    * 800MHz frontside bus
    * 1GB (two 512MB SO-DIMMs) of 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM (PC2-5300); two SO-DIMM slots support up to 4GB
I'm not certain if the macbook has 64 MB video card support or not, or if it will be enough for all of the graphics to work well. I also have 4gb of RAM installed,
and should i be worried about the graphic cards? I'm illiterate when it comes to the correct drivers or not.
    Thanks for any feed back

    There ya go!

  • G5 dual 2.0 or 2.3  for Photoshop?

    hi
i am not sure about the graphics card of the latest G5 2.0
    NVIDIA GeForce 6600 LE
compared to the G5 2.3 with a NVIDIA GeForce 6600
is there really a big difference if i only work with Photoshop heavily?
i plan to buy 4,5GB RAM at least, as i deal with huge images sizes,
so the only decision left is, if i choose the g5 2.0 or g5 2.3 from the refurbish shop. the quad would be too noisy for working the whole day with in a quiet room and ambience.
what about choosing the G5 2.0 with the NVIDIA GeForce 6600 LE
with 256 instead of 128MB RAM, would these extra 128MB VRAM be that much difference for Photoshop?
    thanks

    Dear purepeter,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
There has been some major noticeable changes in regards to video processing between dual 2.3 GHz and 2.0 GHz ( dual core) new G5 .
Firstly to start with the 2.3 uses AGP 8x which is bus based and the 2GHz uses PCI express point to point serial path (a new jump)
AGP 8x clock speed is 66MHz with transfer rates upto 2133MB/s where as PCI Express 16x transfer rate up to 4000MB/s.
2.3 GHz is a dual processor with L2 cache ratio 512 (1:1) where as 2 GHz single dual core (an advantage in hardware respect to bus ) is 1MB per core--->means much much faster and intelligent management in multithreading and processing.
The RAM on 2.3 GHz is SDRAM (184-pin)PC3200 - DDR400 and in 2 GHz is SDRAM (240-pin)PC2-4200 - DDR2-533---> so is a faster clocked RAM. Again gain in the processing.
2.3 GHz has a ATI Radeon 9600 and 2.0 GHz dual core has NVIDIA GeForce 6600 LE is a high end performing card Memory Size 128 MB,GPU Speed 300 MHz ,RAMDAC Speed 400 MHz.
Additional RAM will definitely be an additional gain when dealing with high end/heavier graphics also will be fun for gaming.
There are certain Hardware limits to additional RAM for the unit. 4.5 GB RAM is far good RAM. But just increasing that RAM always does not increase the over all performance of the unit because there are other barriers and constrains.
I think you have the answers after comparisons
    Hope this helps.
    Good Day!
    Ravi Dimri.

    Update the Bios.
    How to update the Bios?
Download the latest Bios update from here.
Plug the AC adapter to the netbook.
Disconnect from the Internet. Close all currently running programs. Disable anti-virus and firewall.
Double-click the Bios update exe file. It may take some time, so it is important to remain patient, do not interrupt the process. Allow the notebook to restart after applying the updated BIOS.
    While this update is running:
do not switch off your laptop,
do not unplug the AC adapter,
do not try to run any software or do anything on it.
    Note:
The Bios update process is always risky. You will do this at your own risk.
    B.
Dowload and install the latest Intel chipset driver from here.
    Restart the system.
    C.
    Update the graphics driver.
Uninstall the ATI/AMD graphic driver first. Check the link below:

  • Why try and inrease fsb of ddr400

"Yes, when i think about it it is a little weird. I am guessing that in memory the only thing you can really better is the timings - well, that would be the case for DDR400 memory anyway - after all, what is the point in increasing the FSB to something like 220Mhz = DDR440 = 440*(64/8) = 3520 MHz bandwidth when the K8T Neo FIS2R can only supply upto 3.2GHz.
Basically, what i am saying is you may as well leave FSB out of the equation and just have tighter timings because no matter what - if you increase the FSB it will never supply over 3.2GHz anyway, if the maximum bandwidth of the mobo is 3.2GHz (DDR 400).
For me, the FSB of my memory is inevitably 220MHz due to me overclocking my CPU to 2.2GHz which thus requires 220MHz FSB and this is because the ratio of CPU:DDR is 1:1.

It is no problem ninja, after all, you were right to recommend it. I think i will just need to do more research into finding what is better - the TWIN1024 - 3200XL XMS or the OCZ you suggested.
    Thanks man.
The OCZ would be the best choice of that group, and almost the most expensive I believe.

  • 3ds max on a MacBook (not pro)

    Hi,
i’ve been thinking of purchasing a MacBook (not Pro) but i do need 3ds on it I know that I would have to run it through windows but would the MacBook have good enough specs to run it?
    Here are the MacBook specs:
    * 2.0GHz or 2.2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor
    * 4MB shared L2 cache running at full processor speed
    * 800MHz frontside bus
    * 1GB (two 512MB SO-DIMMs) of 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM (PC2-5300); two SO-DIMM slots support up to 4GB
I would appreciate any advice and especially some from people that have tried or are currently running 3ds on their Mac via Windows…
    Thank you people

I've got basically the same spec, only 2GB ram, and run Max on the Windows side.
You shouldn't have a problem, but it TOTALLY depends on the complexity of your scene. If you're trying to do any sort of serious shader work - with either VRay or Mental Rar - you're going to be waiting a long time for your renders.
That's what it really gets down to - render times. The MacBook just doesn't have the horsepower for serious Max use, but should get you by for light work. These days, anything but a dual, dual core - or dual quad core - just isn't acceptable.
Also, 1GB or RAM is a bit light.

  • I got my disk for my g4 it's the OS X 10.3.3 and it won't install what do I need to do? Please help

    I need help

To further identify the iBook G4 may help to discover if the computer has issues, or if the DVD install disc (or CDs, if early model) are good, is one of the first items to consider. To be sure what we're looking at...
Do you have access to the serial number* of the computer? It may be on the outside of the case in hard-to-read lettering by the model number & where it says Apple Computer, usually nearer the hinge where the display attaches to the bottom case.
With that, you could *lookup the build model year and original specs as shipped from a site such as this: http://www.powerbookmedic.com/identify-mac-serial.php
This would tell quite a bit. You could also enter a model or sales order number in such a search to see if it comes up with information; but that would be wide and not conclusive to find what One you have... which may be this one: An Early 2004 model.
IF your model number or order number is among those in the following series, the iBook G4 may a second build-model G4
    Model Number
    A1054
    Order Number
    M9426LL/A (12-inch), M9418LL/A (14-inch 1 GHz), M9419LL/A (14-inch 1.2 GHz)
•At what point does the iBook G4 fail to utilize the install-restore DVD or CD disc? Do you hold C key down on startup with the disc already in the optical drive bay? Is the power adapter attached since you don't want to rely on questionable battery reserves when attempting to diagnose, test, repair, or install software.
What other computer are you using to be online, and does it have a FireWire port? This could be used to troubleshoot the other computer in Target Disk Mode, at least see if the hard disk drive is OK or not. A second computer may also be able to test that iBook HDD to see if it is repairable.
•Is that an 1.0GHz or 1.2GHz iBook G4? (second model) -- If so, then:
    Original OS
    Mac OS X 10.3.3 (7G51)
    Later OS
    Mac OS X 10.3.4 (7L46)
    Maximum OS
    Mac OS X 10.5.8
    Hardware Test
    AHT (iBook) 2.2.1, 2.5
The install-restore disc may have the build number (7G51) on Disc #1.
The Panther OS X 10.3.x disc, is that a grey-label one? There are numbers and other information on those to be able to identify what else is important to know, such as the computer they were intended for; not all grey install discs 'for iBook' will work, as each build series and model year had changes, & often different discs.
Older portable computers are tough on hard disk drives, so that one may be worn and unstable, failing, etc.
Anyway, more information is needed in order to decide what one could do in that matter, and what you know about troubleshooting, and if the Panther disc is a grey one, if the computer is the correct one for the Disc, etc. I think the info I have from MacTracker is close to what you have...
Hopefully you can verify some information
where the most I can do is try & guess...
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Processor "stuck" at 2,0 GHz

    Hi,
Just got a new MacBook C2D and noticed the processor speed doesn't seem to vary with CPU load, as was the case with a MacBook CD I had. It's always at 2,0 GHz even when idle... I'm wondering if that's why this machine runs hotter than my previous one - and the fan is louder...
    Is anyone else experiencing this?
    MacBook C2D 2.0Ghz - 4H647   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   2GB RAM

Sorry for not giving the full details, but both of my units are CD so I do not think it is isolated to a given generation.
It may not "really effect the battery life, but I have to wonder why it stays at 2ghz, maybe it'll hit 1.5 for a brief few seconds.
My AMD 2ghz HP L2000 would bounce between 800mhz to 2 ghz depending on load. I could watch a Divx movie and surf the net only using 800mhz.
    Weird.....

    Dear All,
First off.  I am new here so hi to you all
I am new to overclocking.  Please tell me how far I can go for my CPU (RAM I don't plan to), and what settings in bios I need to change (in simple words, don't try me on abbrev too much :P)

BFG GeForce 6800 OC (I don't really plan to OC that either, dunno how)
Would I be able to up from 2.0ghz to 2.2ghz?

Will my Antec TruePower 380W power supply provide sufficient power when increasing vcore? Sjould do just fine Will increasing vcore damage anything? Not as long as it stays cool. How much should I increase it by? Just up a .05 at a time and test.
Also, can I lower my HT to even lower like 3x to get more clock speed? Yes but X4 should be good up to 250. Youn need to keep it under 1000. 250 x4 = 1000
