I7 mac mini powers off.

My i7 mac mini goes to sleep and appears to power off.  It cannot be awakened unless I unplug the power cord, plug it back in and press the power on button.  I then get a full reboot.  Am I resetting the SMC each time?  It's the only thing that works. Does this fairly consistently.  Ideas?

  • 40 GB iPod Battery drains when mac is powered off

If I leave my iPod in the cradle ( connected via firewire) and the Mac is powered OFF, the battery will be drained in a few hours (or overnight). If I leave the iPod sitting wherever (not connected to anything), the battery will not be drained... normal.
I assume then that the Mac (G4 867) is sucking the juice out of the battery when the Mac is powered off. Is this a Firewire port issue or ?
I don't always leave my Mac on, and I don't always take the iPod out of its cradle... how can I stop this from happening?

Is this a Firewire port issue or ?
I remember a few people mentioning this problem last year, and I think the consensus was that it's a Firewire port issue, and the only solution really is to take the iPod out of the dock when the computer is turned off. (It might work to have an external powered Firewire hub, I don't know if the computer would shut that down or not).

  • Mac mini turns off without any reason

My Mac mini turns off without any reason. I just want to make a backup with time machine and after a while the computer doesn´t work anymore. I just see the start-screen with all the users and I had to sign with my user password. After the mac restarts, I had to start time machine again. I stopped energy-management, because I thought that might be the problem but not. Time machine should work the whole night, but I don´t want to sit the whole time next to the mac to wake him up every several minutes. What can I do?

  • Mac Mini Shutting off during boot

Hello Everyone - hope I can get some help on this..
I've got an Intel-based Mac Mini, which suddenly (after changing the video resolution - at least that's the last thing I did before this changed), boots to the Apple logo, with the spinning logo underneath.. This then spins for about 30 seconds (normal time), and then the Mac Mini shuts off..
I've reset the SMC and PMU, but no joy..
    Help!
    Thanks in advance!
    SB

Did a full reinstall of Leopard - that seems to have fixed the issue.. A smidge draconian, but effective nonetheless...

  • Mac mini powers down suddenly

My Mac mini often powers off suddenly.
    The log shows the following:
configd[15] Sleep: Early Failure - AC
    com.apple.message.domain: com.apple.powermanagement.sleep
    com.apple.message.signature: Early Failure
    com.apple.message.result: Failure
    com.apple.message.uuid: E309A210-537E-4DED-BCCF-F1773F1D938A
What could be the possible cause of this?

Changing the sleep mode did not help, it powered down very quickly after that.
I did get the following error:
    kernel Previous Shutdown Cause: 3
and after searching for this error code, I reset the SMC. Now waiting and watching....

  • Mac Pro powering off and on

    Hi All,
I have updated to OS X 10.7.5 on my Old Mac Pro (late 2008 or thereabouts) which was the latest OS X that was allowed.  Since then it worked for a short while perfectly, then started to power on and off continually and I only occaisonally get it to stay on for 3 mins before it goes in to the power off/on cycle.
During these cycles it usally reaches the power up sound and then powers down ect
    Please help!
    Cheers
    Paul

Ddi you happen to do a copy run start with module powered off? If so, I would think its expected behavior.

  • My Mac Mini shuts off when I try to wake it up

Whenever I put my brand new Mac Mini to sleep, then push any key on the keyboard to wake it up, the pulsing green light turns off. Then I can't even start it up when I press the power button. I need to unplug the Mac and plug it back in, then I can press the power button to start it up. I just set it up yesterday and it worked fine, but tonight I can't wake it up. Did I change a setting by mistake?

  • My Mac Mini log-off/sleep fails

I have a Mid 2011 Mac Mini, 2.7, Intel Core Duo i7,model 5,2.  My usual habit is to log-off for the day, then select sleep.  This has worked just fine for the past 15 months. ( I purchased it in Feb 2012.)
A couple of weeks ago, when I sat down and hit the space bar to log-in, it instead showed my desktop.  ??  It made me think 'someone" has control of my computer & is doing me some harm.  This happened again several days later. So I decided to shut down daily.
After a while, I decided to try log-off/sleep again.  But this time, my screen stayed black, and I noticed that my mac mini's on-light no longer pulsed. So I hit the start button.  Nothing happened.  So I turned off the power strip & when I turned it back on, the familiar chime came on and up came my desktop. Otherwise everything seems to be working well.  I tested log-off/sleep again today, and, sure enough, after about 2-1/2 hours it did it again.  I'm doing daily backups now just in case.
This really bothers me.  Can anyone tell me what's going on?  Should I contact tech support (I'm still covered by AppleCare).???

Hi Sharon, could be many things...
One way to test is to Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, Test for problem in Safe Mode...
PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive
    Reboot, test again.
If it only does it in Regular Boot, then it could be some hardware problem like Video card, (Quartz is turned off in Safe Mode), or Airport, or some USB or Firewire device, or 3rd party add-on, Check System Preferences>Accounts (Users & Groups in later OSX versions)>Login Items window to see if it or something relevant is listed. Or an errant process eating up RAM.
Check the System Preferences>Other Row, for 3rd party Pref Panes.
Also look in these if they exist, some are invisible...

  • Mac Mini shutting off

I have a Mac Mini, I forgot how old it is, but I upgraded the OS to Leopard a few months ago. The Mac is set to shut off at 11:30 pm everyday and restart at 6:30 am. A few days ago I noticed the the Mac wasn't on, but warm to the touch. The only way to restart it was to unplug the power supply and replug it. It comes on every time it does that. I have only noticed this in the morning, the mac doesn't shut off again unless I shut it off or at 11:30. Any ideas on why?

There was a tiny speck on the bottom of it. It happened again yesterday morning and I just unplugged it and it is still unplugged now. I am confused because it only happens on the scheduled start up. When I restart after unplugging and then plugging back in it doesn't shut off until it is scheduled.

  • Mac mini turns off after watching movie in front row

we were watching movies through front row on my mac mini (intel core duo from 2004, 1 gb processor) and it turned off a few times, all within about 15-30 minutes of each other. I just upgraded to leopard a few months back but have not had any issues until now. the mac mini is also connected to a hard drive where we store our movies.
Has this happened to anybody else?

I have the same problem. It's pretty annoying and renders the app useless. For now I solved the problem by preventing my Macbook going to sleep via the power settings. Since this is a waste of energy, I would appreciate any suggestions.

  • Mac Mini shutting off soon after turning power on

    Hi,
My Mac Mini was working fine last night, then when I tried to turn it on this morning, the fan was making a lot more noise than it usually does, and the LED light was flashing bright every second or so. The Mini booted up into the login screen, then suddenly turned off as I tried to sign in. I have restarted the PMU, and tried to run the install disk but the computer shuts off on me before it has a chance to load it. It seems that if I put the computer to sleep at the login screen, I am able to log in and see my desktop before the Mini shuts down again.
    Can anybody help me?

It sounds like your logic board may need to be replaced if the PMU reset doesn't work. Some component is probably overheating or changing value causing it to shut down.

  • Why does my mac mini turn off by itself?

My 2009 mac mini turns itself off after a few minutes. This started after a power failure. Might the logic board be fried?

    1. Reset the SMC, as per > Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
    2. Zap the NVRAM/PRAM, as per > About NVRAM and PRAM
    3. Boot into Safe Mode, as per > Mac OS X: Starting up in Safe Mode
Then boot back into normal mode and if it is still turnning itself off...?
Run the Hardware test, as per > Using Apple Hardware Test

  • Mac Mini, Turn off Power Light

    Hi
I just wondered how you can disable or turn off the power light on my computer while using it.
    Thanks

Tape it over? I'm sure you'll find some cute little sticker to put over it. Is the LED annoying you?
    Cheers
    Steffen.

  • Mac mini does not bootup

installed update (the last security update an itunes)and mini never booted again1
It gets stuck at the grey screen with the apple logo and the turning wheel.
won't accept any disk for diaganosis and/or re-install. already troubleshooted according to support here on the apple site and by google to no avail. tonight leaving it booting with the hopes that it will kick in within a day or two just enought to use disk utility. It's my last hope before going to apple. Anybody experience this to this extent? HELP!!!!

I had exactly the same problem as you describe.
I managed to insert my leopard disk eventually, by part inserting the disk with the mac mini powered off (I inserted the disk into the slot until I felt some resistance, then powered up the mac and the disk was drawn in before the apple image appeared on the screen). This didn't change behaviours straight away (I was hoping it would boot off the DVD and offer to repair/reinstall), but the trick with pressing the "C" worked. (which surprised me as I couldn't get the "option or Alt" start to work at all - which had been recommeded on other posts).
note, I needed to buy a wired keyboard before I could press any keys at startup-previously I had been using a wireless keyboard with a USB dongle.
    good luck!

  • My Mac Mini mid2011 powers off using Windows 8 pro?

after installing windows 8 my mac mini turns off.

Ok I was just checking to see if it was crashing. It it had the crash report would of been in the minidump folder.
Seems Windows 8 is taxing the system and it is Auto shutting down. You can install a temp monitoring program to see what the temps get to. Also look in Task Manager to see how many processes are running and the CPU load.
