  • Selling dual 867 CPU- what's a fair price?

    Hey everyone,
I'm looking to put my dual 867 CPU w/heatsink for sale on eBay- what do you think is a fair price? I've had NO issues with it. I just upgraded to a dual 1.6 that's why I'm selling it. Thanks!

A recent G4 Dual 867MHz CPU Board sold for $71.00 plus $13.05 shipping. Another one sold for $76.00 plus $13.05, and another sold for $69.99 plus $14.00 shipping. But one dual 867MHz G4 was listed for $89.99 plus $14.00 did not get any bids. But next week these could sell for higher or less. eBay is kinda tough to pin down values but If it were mine I would put a $75 reserve on it at least.

  • TS3992 I am not able to backup my iphone to Icloud because my wi-fi is greyed out on my phone. The wi-fi button will not slide to the ON position, therefore, Iam unable to backup my phones contents. What can I do?

I am not able to backup my Iphone to Icloud because my wi-fi is greyed outon my phone.  The wi-fi button will not slide to the ON position, therefore, Iam unable to backup my phones contents. What can I do? I need to save my pics, info....etc, because I have to get another phone.

Back up to your computer instead.  To do this, connect your phone to your computer, open iTunes, click on the name of your phone in iTunes, go to the Summary tab of your iTunes sync settings and click Back Up Now.  Also go to File>Devices>Transfer Purchases to transfer your apps and other purchased media to your iTunes library.  Finally, save any photo stream photos to your camera roll (open your my photo stream album, tap Edit, tap the photos, tap Share, tap Save to Camera Roll), then import your camera roll photos and videos to your computer as explained here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083.  (You don't need to delete them from your phone afterwards unless you need the space.)
If you're getting another phone, be sure to delete your iCloud account and turn off iMessage, FaceTime and Game Center before doing so.  (See http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5661).
This is a support article on your wifi issue: http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1559.

iam using a macbook with a japanese keyboard, what should i press to change a character from romanji to kanji, the prompt ask me to type my name in kanji?

Do you have a Japanese name?   If not, you would have to make one up to type it in Kanji.  What exactly are you trying to do?

  • I know they are discontinuing the selling of the iphone 4 & 5, so what happens to my iphone 5 when the new iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c come out

So if they discontinued selling the iPhone 4 and iPhone 5, what does that mean about my iPhone 5 I just bought a few weeks ago? Will I have the same features as the 5C and 5S when I upgrade to iOS 7 when it comes out?

Nothing happens to your iPhone 5. It still continues to work and is still supported by Apple and is still under warranty.
Your phone is basically the same as a the new iPhone 5c (in different clothes) and it will have the same features if you update it to iOS 7.
The iPhone 5s is totally different hardware (faster, better camera, fingerprint sensor). Upgrading your iPhone 5 to iOS 7 will not add the new iPhone 5s features to your phone.

  • Fraudulent Seller Selling Gift Card from Stolen Credit Cards, What do I do?

Paypal did not help and closed the resolution.
    I bought on May 22nd.
Checked with Tim Horton's because wanted to use for the Father's Day deal and they said that the gift Cards have been closed.
Paypal said they don't cover Gift Cards.
So why is Ebay allowing selling of Gift Cards on Ebay if they don't protect the Buyers???
    What can I do? I lost $160.....

How do I know if I'm purchasing an eligible item on eBay?Look for the buyer protection message in the eBay listing in the right hand column under the "Buy Safely" banner. If you see this message, and you meet the eligibility requirements, then your purchase is covered by PayPal Purchase Protection. You can also view this message after you complete your purchase by logging in to your eBay account, going to "My eBay" and looking at the listing. If the listing does not include the buyer protection message, then it is not eligible for PayPal Purchase Protection.
Now, when you check the "terms and conditions" you find the contradiction:
    https://cms.paypal.com/ca/cgi-bin/marketingweb?cmd=_render-content&content_ID=ua/UserAgreement_full&locale.x=en_US#13.%20Protection%20for%20Buyers.
13.3 Ineligible Items. PayPal Purchase Protection only applies to PayPal payments for certain tangible, physical goods. Payments for the following are not eligible for reimbursement under PayPal Purchase Protection:
    Intangible items, including Digital Goods
    Services
    Real estate, including residential property
BusinessesVehicles, including motor vehicles, motorcycles, caravans, aircraft and boats
Custom made itemsTravel tickets, including airline flight tickets
Items prohibited by the PayPal Acceptable Use Policy Items which you collect in person, or arrange to be collected on your behalf, including at the retail point of sale
Items that violate eBay’s Prohibited or Restricted Items Policy Industrial machinery used in manufacturing
Items equivalent to cash, including prepaid or gift cards
    PayPal Direct Payments
    Virtual Terminal Payments
    Personal Payments
This leads to the obvious question - why does eBay allow the PayPal Protection logo in listings where the item clearly is NOT ELIGIBLE to the protection?

  • Selling iBook, how restore OS X so it would play the intro and allow to create new account?

So I'm about to sell my iBook G4 which has Leopard in it.
Is it possible to restore it to a state where when the new owner boots it up it plays the intro video and allows him to create new account, without the old account still being present? I don't have anything important stored on that machine so of course I could just delete all stuff and leave it there but it would nice to allow the new owner to enter his own information, I tend to enter false information so my actual name or address etc. is not stored anywhere.

Perform a Erase and Install on your iBook G4 and don't complete the set up assistant after the installation. This will take care of your concern.

  • Selling my iPod to friend...what to do?

I just purchased the newest iPod touch and I'm going to sell my old one. I want to delete personal apps, photos and some of the music library. Is there an easy way to do this rather than doing the reset and erasing everything? If I chose to sync the old iPod and select manual rather than automatically syncing items, will this screw up everything on my new iPod the next time that I sync to iTunes? Is there an easier way to do this? I could re-download some of the free apps again once I did the reset but how would I put some of the music library back on the old without adding back on everything else (i.e. photos and personal apps)?

It is stealing to give/sell music to a friend unless you give then the original music and do not retain any copies. I would restore the iPod to factory default/new iPod via iTunes.

  • I sold an iPhone 3gs before selling i had restored it but the buy who bought it says it still asks my password and still shows my username ??

As I have mentioned that after listening to troubles I deleted that device from itunes that is loaded on my windows desktop then i also asked him to manually go settings> general> itunes and apps from there sign me out login via your account he did it happened successfully but still it ask my password.

Sorry, I answered in haste and did not realize you are speaking about an iPhone 3GS which does not have Activation Lock to which that link refers.
What probably is happening in your case is that you have some apps in the sold iPhone downloaded with your Apple ID and in order to update them you need to enter your Apple ID and password.  The buyer needs to delete these apps and download them again with his own Appled ID and password as otherwise they will forever be linked to yours.

  • Selling Powermac G4: What do I need to do?

I have a 500mhz 256 RAM Powermac G4 that I am going to sell. What is the best way to go about selling it. More specifically, what should I do to as far as removing any old stuff from the HD? I am selling it as is with the monitor, keyboard, tower and cd burner. I guess I am mostly worried about saved passwords and such. I know I can go into the keychain and erase passwords and what not, but is there anything else I should be aware of? Also, what would be a fair price to offer/expect for this computer? Thanks!
    500mhz 256 RAM Powermac G4   Mac OS X (10.2.x)

    Hi, phoenix1030 -
More specifically, what should I do to as far as removing any old stuff from the HD?
Do a deep-wipe of the hard drive - if it is an ATA type drive, use the zero-all-data option; I think some of the later versions of OSX's Disk Utility also offer an 8-times overwrite of the drive.
These take a while, but are a far more secure erasure of the drive than a simple deletion. A deletion of data, or even a simple erasure of the drive, actually does not remove any data; it just removes the directory entry for the data - a savvy computer person can still retrieve the data itself.
After doing that, as a matter of courtesy for the new owner, install a fresh OS on the drive. Including the machine's original disks is a good thing to do when you transfer a machine to a new owner.
    <hr>
If there is any stuff on the drive that you absolutely do not want anyone to be able to retrieve, then physically destroy the hard drive (a sledgehammer is a good tool for that) and replace it with a new one.

  • Issue with Graphics card...suggestions?

So I currently have a 17" iMac 1.83 ghz Intel Core 2 Duo (Late 2006) that we were using as a secondary desktop for our daughter to use.  Last summer, after loading Lion onto our current iMac, I tried loading Lion onto older iMac after upgrading the RAM to make it compatible.  The RAM install went fine and was tested and all was good.  After the Lion install, the screen went squiggly indicating some kind of graphics issue.
I had my friend inspect the issue (who is a Mac Genius) and he confirmed after various tests the graphics card went bad.  He further informed me that the card can only be replaced by replacing the motherboard since the graphics card is integrated into the board.  Sounds like a costly fix, according to him, for a secondary computer.
My issue is, is it common for graphics cards to go bad like that?  Did the Lion install have something to do with graphics failure?  It all just seemed weird to me since the machine never gave us any issues in the past?  Any thoughts or suggestions would be welcomed!!
Finally, what would be a fair price if I tried selling it for parts on CL or eBay?
    Thanks in advance!!
    Matt

Sure is it is in the upper hundreds of dollars.  My friend just had one replace under warranty and it would have cost $800 out of pocket.
My issue is, is it common for graphics cards to go bad like that?
No, it is not common, although Apple did have a GPU supplier that provided some faulty ones in a few instances: http://support.apple.com/kb/ts2377
Did the Lion install have something to do with graphics failure?
No.  Installing an operating system should not cause a graphics card to fail.  Just a coincidence.
Finally, what would be a fair price if I tried selling it for parts on CL or eBay?
Whatever you can get for it really.  I'm not sure how one can accurately assess a value correctly on a Mac with such a crucial hardware component gone bad.

  • What price?

Hi, I want to sell my Powermac G4 gigabit ethernet for a nice price to add some money myself and then buy a macintel.
    The specs are:
    Powerlogix 1.8Ghz PowerPC G4 7447
    ATI Radeon 9800PRO 128Mb
    1.5GB RAM
2x 80 GB Western Digital hard drives
DVD±RW drive from ASUS (Pioneer hardware, firmware upgraded to the latest)
USB 2 PCI card with NEC chipset, 4+1 ports
Extra network PCI card, ethernet 100 mbps
With Mac OS X 10.4 and much software. (Apps+Games)
What would be a good price to sell this mac for?
I don't know where to look or how to calculate...
(If possible, a price in euros would be nice..)
I'm NOT selling this on the Apple Discussions but I am asking what price I should set for this machine.

Hello! The best way to arrive at a price is to watch a few similar machines sell on eBay. Tom

  • Selling water damaged Macbook Pro (Model A1286, 15", mid-2012) for parts?

So I recently had an unfortunate incident where I spilled water on the keyboard of my MacBook Pro (A1286, 15", mid-2012, standard model). These were the results of Apple's assessment of the computer:
LSI sensors under the battery were not tripped.
Top case does not work. Upon removal of the top case, the computer is able to power up.
HDD is not bootable. Disk verification failed, unable to repair. HDD wiped.
    Oxidation on logic board.
    AST passed.
I was told the top case would cost approximately $300, but that even if the top case were to be replaced, there's still no guarantee that on how long the logic board will last thereafter since water did make contact with it. After deliberating, I decided that, in the long run, it would be more cost effective for me to buy a new laptop instead of repairing this one. So here's my question: how much should I be selling this thing for parts for? And where would I have the best luck selling it? It's just over a year old (purchased July 9th, 2012), so externally it still looks pretty good (it does have a couple stickers on the top, but I'm planning on removing those before I sell it). I plan on leaving the HDD and battery in the computer. I also still have the original box and what not (no charger though), and I'm fairly sure I still have the OS X disks (although they're for Lion since I bought it shortly before Mountain Lion's release and then just digitally upgraded to Mountain Lion). I've poked around Ebay a bit to get an idea, but most of the MBPs being sold for parts on there have quite a few differences between mine, so I was hoping someone on here could give me a rough estimate of what a reasonable price to ask for my machine in particular is. Any help is much appreciated!

You put it on eBay with exactly the info you posted here and you get whatever soomeone is willing to pay for it. There is no value you can set on it or price you can expect. If someone is willing to pay anything for it you are on the Plus Side.
Post it AS IS with NO RETURNS and take whatever you get.

  • Airport 2nd Gen. Not Working; Worth Selling?

    Hello,
Recently upgraded to a 5th Generation that seems to be working better with modem.  With 2nd Generation would have to unplug the router to connect to the internet several times daily.  The firmware on the 2nd was updated.  I was using 2.4ghz not 5 if it even would make a difference.  Is the older Airport even worth salvaging?  I thought about selling on eBay as is.  Would appreciate any feedback.  Thank you.

Check Ebay to see what other similar models are selling for to get an idea of what it might be worth.
