IAntivirus app does Mac book pro need one?

iAnitvirus is this a trusted app for my mac book pro and should I get an antivirus app?

Although Symantec is not new to the OS X market as are most of the new A-V products currently being offered by formerly Windows vendors, it is still new and unproven. The name itself was being used by another vendor who was no longer supporting it, so they either bought or took the name. Thomas Reed, mentioned above, has updated his article on this software at http://www.reedcorner.net/beware-iantivirus/.

    anyone know?

Mac OS X versions 10.6.7 and later have built-in detection of known Mac malware in downloaded files. The recognition database is automatically updated once a day; however, you shouldn't rely on it, because the attackers are always at least a day ahead of the defenders. In most cases, there’s no benefit from any other automated protection against malware.
The most effective defense against malware is your own intelligence. All known malware on the Internet that affects a fully-updated installation of Mac OS X 10.6 or later takes the form of trojans, which can only work if the victim is duped into running them. If you're smarter than the malware attacker thinks you are, you won't be duped. That means, primarily, that you never install software from an untrustworthy source. How do you know a source is untrustworthy?
Any website that prompts you to install a “codec,” “plug-in,” or “certificate” that comes from that same site, or an unknown site, merely in order to use the site, is untrustworthy.
A web operator who tells you that you have a “virus,” or that anything else is wrong with your computer, or that you have won a prize in a contest you never entered, is trying to commit a crime with you as the victim.
“Cracked” versions of commercial software downloaded from a bittorrent are likely to be infected.
Software with a corporate brand, such as Adobe Flash Player, must be downloaded directly from the developer’s website. No intermediary is acceptable.
Disable Java (not JavaScript) in your web browser(s). Few websites have Java content nowadays, so you won’t be missing much. This setting is mandatory in Mac OS X 10.5.8 or earlier, because Java in those versions has bugs that make it unsafe to use on the Internet. Those bugs will probably never be fixed, because those older operating systems are no longer being maintained by Apple. Migrate to a newer version of the Mac OS as soon as you can.
Follow these guidelines, and you’ll be as safe from malware as you can reasonably be.
Never install any commercial "anti-virus" products for the Mac, as they all do more harm than good. If you need to be able to detect Windows malware in your files, use the free software ClamXav — nothing else.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
You can purchase Lion from the Mac App Store. You will need to meet the requirements for Lion, but the Mac App Store will tell you whether your Mac is capable of running Lion or not.

  • Help! I have a Used Mac Book Pro need help with apps update

My ex bought me a mac book pro and purchased all of the apps and uploaded the apps under is apple id. I just recently update the new software now i can't get access to iPhoto, and other apps because its asking me for my password but his apple id coming up is there any way i re install these apps under my apple id. Please help I can used iPhoto.

You cannot use or upgrade anything that is registered with his Apple ID. You must re-purchase it all using your Apple ID and your iTunes account. This includes the operating system as well. Essentially, you erase the drive and start from scratch. Here's how to get started:
Install OS X Using Internet Recovery
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
Boot to the Internet Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND-OPTION- R keys until a globe appears on the screen. Wait patiently - 15-20 minutes - until the Recovery main menu appears.
Partition and Format the hard drive:
Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
After DU loads select your newly installed hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall OS X: Select Reinstall OS X and click on the Install button. Be sure to select the correct drive to use if you have more than one.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
This should restore the version of OS X originally pre-installed on the computer. You can decide which apps you want to purchase (or download free) from the App Store where you will set up your own account and your own Apple ID if you don't have one.

  • Mail app on mac book pro lost?!

I accidentally deleted the mail app on my mac book pro and i don't have my installation disk with me. I searched for it via spotlight and found nothing.
How can I get t back?
    Thank you
    J

    1. get rid of junk like appcleaner. They cause more problems than they claim to solve.
"so i deleted it but usually it should be deleted seeing as I have a protection on default apps."
    What does that mean?
What OS did your MacBook Pro come with? You should be able to extract the Mail.app from the installer disk. So provide the model MBP you have and what OS was installed when you bought it.

  • My Mac Book Pro needs to re download LION. I formatted my Macintosh HD and tried downloading lion from disk utility. Half way through it gives me gray screen saying i need to restart my computer. I can never finish the download and install. Any other ways

My mac book pro crashed during an update a week ago. Since then I have been forced to fomat my macintosh HD drive and attempt to reinstall lion. Halfway through my download of lion, a grey screen pops up telling me to restart my computer. I do such and then nothing ever happens again, I am just brought back to disk utility every time. Why?!?!?!

You can go to the Apple online store and purcahse a copy of Mountain Lion.  This will give you a redemption code, which you can use to download Mountain Lion from the App Store.  Unfortuantely, I'm not aware of any other way to legally purchase it.  I have never seen Apple release Muontain Lion on DVD.
In terms of Apple Service, they just need the serial number of the machine to check the purcahse date.  It is usually correct, to within a few weeks.  A quick Google search should give you the correct number to dial.
    I hope this helps.

  • Mini DVD-R use in Mac Book Pro Need help

I have several videos on Memorex Mini DVD-R discs that I am afraid to insert into the normal sized drive of my Mac Book Pro. Does anyone know of a product that can be used, such as an insert or "donut". I would like to upload these videos and have looked on the Memorex website and elsewhere.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

    Hello and welcome to discussions,
You are right to be wary of inserting these mini disks. They will almost certainly get stuck and thereby stick you with a potentially large bill.
I do not know of any maker of a " doughnut " or mechanical work around. One way I have come across, though, is as follows...
Find a computer that has a locking ring or holder for disks, upload the data onto said computer, burn data to a normal sized CD and then transfer data to required computer.
Its not elegant but it does work and does not cost anything more than some time.
    Regards.
    Ian.

  • Does mac book pro come with os lion

I know it may sound dumb but does the mac book pro come with os lion or do I need to purchase it? Tried looking in my system reference and it does not say and if i do have to buy it will I get the update when mountain lion comes out? Thanks for any info.

>about this mac.  If it says 10.7.x, you have Lion.  Can't answer questions about Mountain Lion as Apple has released very little details about it in terms of what you are asking.

  • I'm new to mac book pro need help with the dock

'm new to mac book pro and I accidentally delete from the dock the Utilities and Documents Icon. How do I put it back?
    I already tried moving from

    Eric's right, but an additional tip;
Make sure the folders and other non-app shortcuts you'd like on the dock go on the right hand side of the little median (looks like a road median), and place them directly between two other items. They will only shortcut onto the dock if you see the Dock make space for it.

  • Whats does mac book pro apple care exactly over? everthing but lost or stolen?

mac book pro apple care exactly over? everthing but lost or stolen?

It's hardware coverage of factory defects to three years from the date of purchase of the machine + phone support.
You can buy it within the one year standard warranty, but it's still only three years max.
Doesn't cover software issues, data recovery, user damage, accidents or thefts.  OS X may be reinstalled in the repair process but really doesn't count as fixing software issues.
It's sort of mandatory, as eventually one will upgrade OS X and a firmware update can brick a logicboard by exposing unknown flaws or drivers for video cards causing issues.
Never upgrade OS X without AppleCare in place as Apple has multiple points of potential failure on the logicboard, the parts are not more seperated like on PC's and thus cheaper to fix.
A new logicboard out of applecare is prohibitive, you'll be better off buying a new machine.

  • Does mac book pro come with keynote and pages or doi have to purchase them seperately; can i purchase online?

oes mac book pro come with keynote and pages or doi have to purchase them seperately; can I purchase online? My son has an assignment due tomooorow they use macs at school and we assumed he could just finish it at home and..no Keynote!

Mac don't come with iWork installed unless you configure it while buying your Mac online.
However, iWork can be purchased at the App Store. You can buy the apps individualy (Pages, Numbers and Keynote) too.
