  • Error when starting Discoverer on IAS 10g

The installation of an IAS 10g (9.0.4)(on Linux, SUSE SLES9) succeded without an error. The different services (Forms, Reports, Discoverer ...) are running (green).
Starting Discoverer Plus we get the error "CORBA-Protocol: Connecting to .. OSAgent was not sucessful".
We installed a second IAS-Farm on different hardware and got the same error. We deployed path 9.0.4.1, but nothing changed.
We have already installed several IAS 10g in SLES8 without any problems.
We check serveral things without getting any further idea what is wrong.
    Thanks for any information/help
    Tilman

see if there is a process on your machine called OSAgent or dis51pr or dis51ws. It seems like the discoverer corba components aren't started properly. If you run 'opmnctl status' from the command line it should show you whether they are up or down as well.

  • Oracle IAS 10 install questions with ebs 11.5.10.2

We have a 11.5.10.2 installation that was installed a few years back
    Our environment is
our small server hosts the forms server and the web server
our big server hosts admin node, concurrent manager and database
both of our above servers have IAS_ORACLE_HOME version 4
we have to upgrade this IAS_ORACLE_HOME to version 10
we are following the documents below
233436.1 Installing Oracle Application Server 10g with Oracle E-Business Suite Release 11i [ID 233436.1]
261914.1 Integrating Oracle E-Business Suite Release 11i with Oracle Internet Directory and Oracle Single Sign-On [ID 261914.1]
313418.1 Using Oracle Discoverer 10.1.2 with Oracle E-Business Suite Release 11i
    a) Do we need to configure IAS_ORACLE_HOME on both the above servers ?
It seems that Apps server 10g requires a separate Oracle Instance to store
the metadata repository as mentioned below
The Oracle Application Server 10g Infrastructure must not be
installed in the Oracle E-Business Suite Release 11i database.
For more details, see Oracle MetaLink Note 251627.1,
"Installing an Oracle Application Server Metadata Repository
with an Oracle E-Business Suite Database."
So in case we need to install IAS_ORACLE_HOME on both servers do we need
to create two instances for the Application Server Metadata Repository
or do we have an option ?
    Thanks for helping

    Guys ,
    Check out the following link
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/ias/htdocs/101202.html
Check out the section called Business intelligence
if you expand the + sign it shows
    Included:
    * Oracle Business Intelligence Discoverer
    * Oracle HTTP Server
    * Oracle Application Server Containers for J2EE (OC4J)
    * Oracle Enterprise Manager 10g Application Server Control
    * Oracle Application Server Web Cache
    * Oracle Application Server Reports Services
Since I have Suse Enterprise Linux 9 and I do not have a server available
    which I can use exclusively
I cannot choose the version 11 of BIS since it required SLES 10
Hence I have chosen the linux version of the BIS
    the files for linux
    as_linux_x86_bi_101202_disk1.cpio
    as_linux_x86_bi_101202_disk2.cpio
    Read
document 313418.1 section 1.3 and also the NOTE in the next section
The document 313418.1 1.3 NOTE section clearly states that if we need only Discoverer plus and Discoverer Viewer I can install the bi components as I explained above.
Hussein has guided me .....check the messages in this same thread above.
    Thanks a lot Hussein

  • SUSE Linux 8.0 + 9iAS r2 = Success

Hi PPL, just reporting success and performance inscrease under Suse Linux 8.0:
I can say that Oracle 9iAS under Linux for me performs at least 25-30% faster than Windows. I've installed IAS and INFRA in only one machine:
    Pentium 4 1.8Ghz
    1 GB RAM
    1 SCSI 15kRPM IB DISK
    Adaptec Ultra 160 controller
    2 GB SWAP
I use PORTAL, FORMS, REPORTS and WIRELESS... I've installed the BUNDLED INTER-OPERABILITY PATCH Version of 9iAS r2, so i did not had to apply that patch. I've just applied today one CORE patch that was released in September for Linux/Unix versions and yesterday for Windows versions (patch 2542920)
I've used SUSE 8.0, installed the Korn Shell package (KSH) and followed instruction on this VERY USEFULL whitepaper at htis site : www.stute.net !
Remember to change SHMMAX parameters for the kernel as explained in www.puschitz.com !
My last installation was made in 3 hours (SUSE installation included)
Other tricks was i had to execute: xhost + as root to let oracle set DISPLAY and runInstaller! The linking errors were easily solved as explained in www.stute.net whitepaper.
I've created a script to startup the INFRA database, but i couldnt start up automatically all services (OC4J's, HTTP, WEBCACHE), so i start them manually in OEM site http://mysite:1810
I'm not a Linux GURU, but now i feels satisfied with performance and with stability.
More... in Linux i can compile my FORMS files (FMX) even when they are used by someone user in a forms session.
And even better is that PATCHS for Linux/Solaris usually are on "street" 1 month before Windows versions.
Of course, I go crazy everytime i found bugs, but usually they are not plataform related.

    Hi
I installed on SUSE Linux 8.0 the 9iAS R2, only the option A - J2EE and WebChache. Now I have following problems.
    1. Some configuration tools (OC4J, OPMN, DCM)were not initialized in the end of the installation. I read other postings with the same problems, but i never read a solution of these problems.
    2. After installation, i want to start the http server manually (dctml start -ct ohs) , but it doesn't work. I got the error message ADMN 100999, i dont know why !
If i want to start the http-server with enterprise manager (EM worked partically) I got an EMException.
I have no idea to resolve the problems, perhaps you

  • Oracle on SuSE Linux 6.0-6.1-6.2

If you are installing Oracle 8.0.5.0, Oracle 8.0.5.1,Oracle
    8.1.5 (8i),Oracle WebDB 2.0.5.6.1,or Oracle OAS 4.0.7 please
check the following page out for instructions...
    http://www.suse.de/~mha/oracle/
    null

Oracle ias9i is certified with Oracle Server 8.1.6 and 8.1.7. When installed on the same machine, then you have to install Oracle Server first in it's own ORACLE_HOME, shut down all services after installation, and install ias9i in it's separate ORACLE_HOME. As you shut down all services of the database installation (and have no datbase up at installation time of ias9i), you have to start all database related parts of ias9i installation after the software install: bring up database, define tnsname for it in ias-home and start Portal Configuration Assistant. When you install ias9i, an Oracle Server 8.1.7 is installed in the same ORACLE_HOME as ias9i for the Database Cache feature only. It is not recommended to use that Installation for production databases. These hints are for NT-platform, i don't think there are differences in UNIX.

  • 9i Parallel server on SUSE ROCKS!!!! (really it does !)

Ok for those who are interested...here's the whole story.....
First attempt. 8.1.7 OPS and Redhat 6.2. Getting it working on a three node Dual 1Ghz Xeons was fairly simple. But extensive testing revealed some bugs which could not be worked around. The one that killed that test was
...when thrashing the cluster i.e. updating alternate records of large tables simultaneously on multiple nodes while also reading the same records on other nodes...( to sort of stress the interconnect and locking ) all this done on tables with rows upwards of 5 mill...after a while the Segment header on tables would get corrupted...I guess Oracle DLM code was messing up somehow.
then comes 9i ...on SUSE (ok thats really yucks... I mean SUSE ***** as compared to red hat...but hey its not as if I paid for it...) what the heck had to try it...
I now have the same test as above...the load average on each of the nodes crosses 20 if you know what I mean by that...I ran the test for a few days despite the CA power crisis ( no kidding )...and guess what...NO PROBLEM at all...not even a single job on ANY of the three nodes had any trouble...
THIS THING TOTALLY WORKS....The next step is to run an even more demanding test for a month and if that runs fine...Eventually its bye bye Sun, Compaq, HP , SGI etc etc for us...

This has always interested me and I am about to have a go at it
    with 9i.
I have 8.1.7 db and 8iAS running quite happily under RH7.0 and
they are owned by "oracle" and "oraias" with /etc/oratab an
profile script to get the environment right.
9i DB and iAS, I have noticed is not certified under the same
release of SuSE - which seems to make hard work of something
that should be very easy to do.

  • Oracle9iAS Java Edition v9.0.3 instalattion on SuSE 8.2

The OC4J "standalone" edition was simple.
With the Oracle9iAS Java Edition v9.0.3 instalation bundle, it comes with other funcionalites (Oracle HTTP server, enterprise console, and other), and with many many problems.
I have tested the installation under SuSE 8.2 Professional and the installation fails.
The following makefiles can't be executed (no error appears, and i have the korn shell installed)
    ins_sqlplus.mk
    ins_oemagent.mk
    ins_calypso.mk
The installation of OC4J home instance, fails with a security exception when creating some unix file.
The deployments of application in the OC4J_demo instance also fails with exception:

Having SecurityExceptions because the user does not have the rigth permissions, is strange, because I was installing everything in the user home directory.
So the only problem I can see, was permissions to write in the /tmp directory. I checked that the user also as write permissions in that directory.
Looking in the logs files I noticed that Oracle is passing the -Djava.io.tmpdir parameter, when no environment values is used for TMP or TMPDIR, when deploying applications in OC4J:
Launched configuration tool OC4J Instance Configuration Assistant
Command which is being spawned is /export/data01/o9ias/jdk/bin/java -Djava.io.tmpdir= -mx512M -classpath ...
If Oracle should not specify the -Djava.io.tmpdir=, then everything worked out of the box.
I defined the environment variables (in the shell) TMP, TMPDIR, so that in the -Djava.io.tmpdir= was replaced by -Djava.io.tmpdir=<my temp dir>. With this the deployments that failed, now worked.
After this another problem. Oracle HttpServer fails to start. Looking in the loges, some modules are configured to be loaded, but are not found:
    mod_ossl.so
    mod_oradav.so
    modplsql.so
Commenting this modules, makes http server start. Shouldn't this be commented in the Java Edition?
The only problem I have know is the make of ins_sqlplus.mk, ins_oemagent.mk and ins_calypso.mk. Can anyone help me on this, or at least explain us why this is needed?
    thanks,

  • EXPERIENCE Installing 9iAS r2 on RH 7.3 or Suse 8 ?

    Hi:
    Anyone have experience installing 9ias r2 on RH7.3 or Suse 8 ?
    I would prefer RH 7.3!
If anyone know the tricks and steps to get it installed please post them here gently :)))
    Thanks in advance.

    Hello
I did a clean install with suse 8.0 . This is my configuration and basic installation steps.
Installed suse8 with pdksh (k shell, will not install by default )and Swap space 1GB
The hostname and IP adrress was in /etc/hosts file (Some shell scripts hardcode IP, Lot of problems when try to change IP address after installation)
Created iasdba group (didnt use the oracle user comes with suse)
Created ias user (made the home directory as /u1/ias , u1 is another mount point or can be a subdirectory under root )
logged in as ias user and set all env variables (created a shell script called set_ias_inf and put everything in it)

  • Unable to Start Oracle HTTP_Server on Open Suse 10 SP3

    Hi,
I am trying to install Oracle Application Server 10.1.3 on Open Suse 10 SP3 and the install is fine until when it comes to starting HTTP_Server it fails and in the log it says:
    12/05/21 10:05:54 Start process
    /opt/oracle/as1013/Apache/Apache/bin/apachectl startssl: execing httpd
Oracle Application Server was installed on another Open Suse 10 server by another colleague who has now left the company.
Can anyone give me any pointers?
    Thanks

Also looking at the Apache directory, it looks like Apache has not been installed properly.
    How can I re-install Apache?

  • 9i IAS install

I installed 9I IAS 1.0.2.2.2 on a AIX unix machine. Once the install was finished, this URL was created http://lennox:7777
So I went to the browser and typed http://lennox:7777 this works great.
also I set the formsweb.cfg file. I made the changes so that it points to my serverhost and the serverURL
    serverHost=lennox:7777
    serverURL=http://lennox:7777/servlet/oracle.forms.servlet.ListenerServlet
then I went to this URLs to see if the servlet is working. so I typed
    http://lennox:7777/IsItWorking
    http://lennox:7777/servlet/oracle.forms.servlet.ListenerServlet
    these do not work.
Does anyone know why I can't get to these URLS.
Also I made sure that the files were there, and they were.
    anyhelp would be appreciated
    William

If you had reviewed previous posts, you would have seen a post I made on August 6th, in which I stated...
I just installed Oracle 9iAS v. 1.0.2.2 for Linux on RedHat 7.1 and on the RedHat 7.2 beta (Roswell)...
Basically, to get it to install (and behave!), you'll need preferably a 2.4.x series kernel and glibc 2.2.x, XFree86-libs and XFree86-devel >= 3.3.6, & openmotif and openmotif-devel. You don't even need the full XFree86 biraries package, as long as you extract xauth and xterm and put them in /usr/X11R6/bin (or wherever)...then redirect your display to some other X workstation to install. As long as you have these on your system, it doesn't matter what distro you run...you could even roll your own distro and still get it to install correctly.
Remember, Linux is Linux is Linux...not RedHat, SuSE, or whatever.
    Good luck!
