IBM 240X with Unmountable_Boot_Volume

The laptop turned off after a sudden power failure.
After reboot, the error of unmountable_boot_volume displayed.
Without a floppy drive, is there any method to resolve it?

A20m, powers up, screen say's IBM Thinkpad with the 2 options of F1 or F12, then does nothing!

My son attempted to help, format & reload my old laptop before giving to Grandma to replace her dead laptop.
This laptop had sat for a year, waiting to be g-mom's next back up, sure enough. It was time to call this A20m back to service again.
Upon turning on everything she powered up perfect, I removed a couple of programs. Then figured I would just reload to new, reformat & reload. Until my son attempted to help me get it done before my 73 year old mom lost her mind from Pogo with drawl, lol.
Now all my dependable A20 does is turn on & screen shows IBM thinkpad, with the F options just like normal. If you push F12 it will changes screens & state "preparing boot device list" & F1 changes to " entering IBM BIOS setup utility & that is it, sounds as if it is working. The only way to clear the process is turn it off.
I have never had any issue with this system every.
I could use some help here Please. My mom is confined to her home due to medical, this is her only means of entertainment.
I need this up & going soon or I will be forced to give up my T60 to her.
Any and all help would be very helpful.

2-finger scrolling (and 2-finger tap right-click) work perfectly for me. In System Preferences > Keyboard and Mouse > Trackpad, be sure to check Use 2 fingers to scroll. I also have Allow horizontal scrolling, Clicking, Tap trackpad using 2 fingers for secondary click, and Ignore accidental trackpad input checked. My scrolling speed is just a little toward the fast side, as is tracking speed. Double click speed is at the fast limit.
Try those settings and see if things improve for you. Good luck! It really should work without problems like the ones you describe.

IBM Notes with Mavericks

I am having some trouble on a couple of accounts using IBM Notes with Mavericks. On my workstation, I upgraded to Mavericks and installed the new IBM Notes 9.0.1 with no troubles. However on two other Macs of the same model, I upgraded them to Mavericks and installed IBM Notes and then Notes did not run after the initial setup procedure. It will begin to launch, but will just drop out.
The curious thing was, I entered the Admin account on one of them and launched IBM Notes and entered the information for setup, using the Mac user's info, and it runs just fine in that Admin account. However, it will not run in the user's account. So, what may be the problem on his account that prevents it from running?
The following comes from a part of IBM Notes' Expeditor logs resulting from one of the failed attempts to launch that app:
CWPNL0097E: Could not open /Users/temp/Library/Application Support/Lotus Notes Data/Expeditor/Applications/.config/args.properties for writing! : Permission denied
I don't know if this is a critical point or not.

You may need to rebuild permissions on your user account. To do this,boot to your Recovery partition (holding down the Command and R keys while booting) and open Terminal from the Utilities menu. In Terminal, type: ‘resetpassword’ (without the ’s), hit return, and select the admin user. You are not going to reset your password. Click on the icon for your Macs hard drive at the top. From the drop down below it select the user account which is having issues. At the bottom of the window, you'll see an area labeled Restore Home Directory Permissions and ACLs. Click the reset button there. The process takes a few minutes. When complete, restart.

Then you need to install clearcase extension in your JDev.
1. Download the zip file from

Distorted sound after power is suspended on IBM Thinkpad with XP

I am experiencing a problem with itunes on my IBM thinkpad with windows XP. After power is suspended, songs are distorted, the sound seems to be warbling. After I restart XP things are fine again until I suspend power, the problem returns. Any suggestions?

Thanks hausman, as mention in early mail, I not good at all on computer. To be frank in my country Lenovo only know how to sell thinkpad and no service, when I requested to buy the recovery CD when bought X61 they said none and never heard of, which in my opinion they should not said that, after all I want to buy not ask for free, thus I think that the main reason why in my country not much people using thinkpad because basically no service only want to sell. The reason I'm still buying thinkpad because of track point mouse, if other brand have mouse same like trackpoint, I will definitely buy it, have try HP but the track point mouse not as good as track point. I will definitely will buy the recovery CD once I'm in Singapore 9plan mid Nov 09) as I believe Lenovo Singapore service is much more better when compare to my country Lenovo. Thanks again

IBM POS with SAP Issue.

I am working at client site, have a peculiar issue please help by providing your suggessions or ideas to solve it.
Here is the Issue : Every time a Transaction is completed at the terminal the data will be written (Appended) to the PTLOGXXX.dat file where XXX resembles the Terminal Number, and once the EOD (End of Day) is run it triggers a DOS (basic) program in the IBM POS Server which converts the .dat files to .txt files and once the conversion happens it triggers the inbound.bat file which sends this PTLOGXXX.txt files to the Unix Server where the information will be spread across to the Oracle Database tables and then the IDOC Conversion happens and IDOC's are sent to the ERP (SAP IS Retail) system.
The issue is that the clients wants to make the system online and make sure that POS Transactions are being sent to SAP system at regular intervals, and secondly the Process of getting the txt files to be converted to IDOCu2019s is taking a lot of time (close to about 2 Hrs) and they wanted to reduce this time.

For your suggested solution are you considering using SAP PI? are there any SAP tools that let you fully integrate and read, in near real time, from an IBM POS 4690? everything I´ve read about (RDS Shopper Insight or Sales Analytics 4 Retail) deal with SAP POS.

We are planning to go for SAP Netweaver CE 7.1.
(Usage Type : Web As for Java, EP Core & EP)
CE 7.1 is a separate product, you can´t install EP (core) on top of it. If you want to run a portal you need to install Netweaver 7.0.

In such cases where the integration landscape uses multiple middleware tools at different levels, the best approach would be to opt for a file based exchange. As no adapters are likely to be available on the interoperability of these two tools, best approach would be:
PI downloads the data as an XML file (in an agreed format) to a designated folder and Gentran reads the file from the same folder. And for reverse flow follow the same approach.
Alternatively if Gentran is able to make SOAP Based webservice call then it can call to PI interfaces using HTTP/SOAP or can provide a service end point for PI to make a call. You can consult with a Gentran expert on the capabilies of Gentran and the feasibility of this approach,

Calling an Abap Web Service from IBM WebSphere with a MYSAPSSO2 Cookie

I have the following problem :
I have to develop a proof of concept between IBM Web Sphere 5.1 and SAP AS JAVA 7.0.
I have created an IBM sevlet in Web Sphere, I use a specific redirect from an SAP AS Java to call it, this way I can have a SAP Logon Ticket, and I manage to call an ABAP module function with JCO with SSO.
Scenario 1 : browser + authentication --> AS Java redirect servlet MYSAPSSO2 cookie -> IBM WebSphere servlet JCO -> Abap module function (ECC5)
This scenario works fine.
I have to do the same scenario with a Web Service and I don't know what to do.
I try to use jax-rpc handlers but I don't know how to pass my cookie from my servlet to my handler.
Scenario 2 : browser + authentication --> AS Java redirect servlet MYSAPSSO2 cookie -> IBM WebSphere servlet JCO -> Abap Web Service (ECC5)
Has someone already done that ?

Why are you using 5.1....go for 6.0 and its cake walk, i have integrated WebSphere 6.0 with R/3 uysing xi.....in a week.
Scenario changed to:--
Browser+ authentication --> WebSphere AS servlet request --> XI --> RFC/bapi --> abap webService

IBM VIOS with Oracle RAC

I have a case of RAC implementation but they are planning to use VIOS (IBM Virtual I/O Server) for OCR, Voting and ASM.
Questions:
1) Metalink says VIOS is supported for RAC:

Thanks for your update. Could you describe how do you setup your current VIO server implementation to support Oracle RAC?
In our case:
1) Physical storage is provided by EMC
2) We have two VIO Server to provide storage and network to each LPAR.
3) One VIO server works with one LPAR, so we have one VIO server behind each LPAR.
As you know, we normally setup shared raw devices for OCR, Voting Disks and ASM. The storage administrator does not know how to setup the "virtual" shared storage (provided by VIOS) between each LPAR.
Please, any advice if you know that.

I was trying to connect IBM RAD with MSSQL 2000 to generate crystal reports

After establishing connection through wizard succesfully I try to use the parameters of the connection in .INI file. while establishing normal connection this error msg pops up.
Failed to open a rowset.
Details: :SQL Exception: [SQL Error Code] 0 [Error Message:] [IBM] SQL Server JDBC Driver] This driver is locked for use with embedded application.

Surely the actual error message said "embedded" and not "enbedded"? Copy and paste is better than retyping, please. When I googled that phrase with correct spelling, the only result it returned was this one:

Replacing IBM Java with Sun Java

Hello,
I used Red Carpet to install Java JRE, it installed IBM Java.
Is it O.K. to uninstall and install Sun Java JRE instead?
I have found an application (Arkeia Smart Backup, http://www.arkeia.com/)
that is dependant on SUN Java JRE, I get an error when trying to run it
with IBM Java.

Ha, silly me I looked in NLSBS3061.pdf docoment and saw that it was
necessary to do this for OpenOffice.
For information:
I unistalled the JRE which I had installed from available software in Red
Carpet , it's IBM Java using Red Carpet.
I downloaded the latest JRE from WWW.Sun.com following their install
instructions for the .rpm. All is well and ARKEIA Smart Backup is running
and backing up to my HP DAT drive @ about 1gb. per 7 mins.

Multicast clustering IBM servers with N7K and 2k

     i have two severs IBM are working as a cluster and connected to Fiber fabric extender 2K using VPC as per attached diagram
     two IBM server are woriking fine for network connectivity with N2k but the servers have a multicast named ( power HA 7.1) to work as acluster
      but i tried to configue multicat in N7K and N2k to server working as acluster but the servers are not working
     please advice me about the configuration in N7K and N2k to working IBM servers as a cluster .

One option is the IGMP querier:

The other option is run PIM on the VLAN interface:

Both has the same purpose: combined with IGMP snooping, the L3 interface will flood the VLAN with IGMP queries that traverse the inter-switch links. As a result, the inter-switch links will be included in the snooping port list. In turn,
packets destined to 228.5.10.5 will be sent out the inter-switch link and reach the other server.
Without the IGMP queries, 228.5.10.5 packets will not be sent from one switch to the other as it is not in the 224.0.0.0/24 range.

IBM DB2 with Updateable ResultSets

I'm working on a cross database application that uses updateable resultsets.
I've run it on mysql and postgres.
And using JTDS and DataDirect I've got SQL Server functionality working.
But now I'm trying to deploy it on DB2 using the UDB dirver. But it seems that it doesn't support Updatable ResultSets.
The driver I'm using came with the DB2 Personal Edition.
Is there another driver by IBM that supports updatable resultsets, or will I be forced inyo finding a thrid party driver for my work?

I believe I was using the type 4 one, but I got a SQL Exception simply saying "Driver not Capable" when I ran it.
The DataDirect one should work, but it is also responsible for connection hijacking.
What that is that once you register the DB2 Driver, and you use DriverManager to get a connection, it assumes that ALL calls to DriverManager.getConnection() are for DB2 connections, even though I use Postgres connections as well. When I try to get a postgres connection, the DB2 driver throws an exception saying that it can't connect to the datasource!
