IBM Common Store for SAP Implementation VS IXOS

Hello all, great idea for a forum.
We are currently choosing between IBM CommonStore and IXOS for our Image Repository, Document Attachment and Archiving solution.
Our team has extensive experience with IXOS and limited experience with IBM CommonStore and IBM Content Manager.
In a situation where 1000s of returned invoices and correspondences a day will be imaged and inserted into the repository and indexed into PS-CD we need to decide if the dollars saved in going with CommonStore will be spent getting our solution up to the integration level that is delivered with IXOS.
Does anyone here have experience with both or has anyone gotten CommonStore working up to a full production level with QA workflows and CRM viewing enabled?
Any experience getting CommonStore fully functional with a mass invoicing scenario?
Any help will be appreciated.
Greg

Greg,
All certified vendors that use SAP ArchiveLink would basically have the same level of integration in SAP.  It should take you no longer to implement one over the over, the sap configuration is the same.  It really comes down to the experience of the implementation team.
The IBM CommonStore solution is SAP ArchiveLink certified and provides an enterprise wide imaging repository without the need for additional products and licensing.
If you want to look at just the scanning front end, IBM uses a scanning front end that supports OCR from such vendors as Kofax and Captiva.  IXOS Enterprise scan can only scan and hand the images over to another OCR solution, thus scanning the same documents twice.
I am familiar with both solutions; I was the past IXOS imaging team lead for 5 years.
I'm not sure what you're looking for in regards to "QA workflows and CRM viewing enabled?"
CRM is archiveLink enabled!

  • SAP AL- IBM Common store: Incomplete url returned by FM 'SCMS_DOC_URL_READ'

    We are calling standard FM SCMS_DOC_URL_READ from a program started in the SAP GUI in order to retrieve the URL for an image stored in our document archive of type IBM Common store (HTTP communication via the Archive Link inteface).
    When calling the FM with the parameters defined below, the returned value (url) is too short; the returned security key in the url has been cut off.
    (The returned parameter lv_url is defined as CHAR 4096, so it should be long enough.)
    The connection to the archive is working fine. Images kan be displayed via OAAD, so there is no communication problem between SAP and the IBM archive.
    The same source code is used successfully in another installation of rel 4.6C with an integration to a SAP HTTP content server.
    The only adjustments we have made for this installation integrated with IBM common store are :
    - value of “comp_id” was set to space
    - value of “force_get” was set to ‘X’.
    The call to FM SCMS_DOC_URL_READ is defined as follows:
    DATA:   lv_url TYPE SAPB-URI,       “char4096
    Get URL.
           CALL FUNCTION 'SCMS_DOC_URL_READ'
               EXPORTING
                   stor_cat             = space
                   crep_id              = iv_archiv_id
                   doc_id               = iv_archiv_doc_id
                   comp_id            = space
                   security             = 'F'
                   http_url_only      = 'X'
                   force_get           = 'X'
               IMPORTING
                    url                  = lv_url               " char 4096
               EXCEPTIONS
                    error_config                = 1
                    error_parameter          = 2
                    error_signature           = 3
                    http_not_supported     = 4
                    docget_not_supported = 5
                    not_accessable          = 6
                    data_provider_error      = 7
                    tree_not_supported     = 8
                    not_supported            = 9
                    OTHERS                   = 10
    When analyzing the result of this FM call we can see that the returned value (url) has been cut off; i.e the security key in the returned url is not complete.
    The expected result was a complete url including a complete security key.
    The actual result was an url with a cutted secKey, see below:
    (server id of the IBM common store archive was replaced with “xxxxxx” in the url below).
    http://xxxxx:5590/cs?get&pVersion=0046&contRep=T1&docId=47A5A913D5EC00EBE10080000A14B620&accessMode=r&authId=CN%3DTST,OU%3DSAPWebAS,O%3DSAPTrustCommunity,C%3DDE&expiration=20080313203953&secKey=MIIBNAYJKoZIhvcNAQcCoIIBJTCCASECAQExCzAJBgUrDgMCGgUAMAsGCSqGS
    Any ideas on why the complete length of the security key is not returned in the url?

  • RFC calls with SAP JCO and IBM resource adapter for SAP - basic tuning

    Hi experts,
    we are working on a java portal connected to a backend system SAP by calling RFCs.
    On our first integration tests, it appears to be quite slow fetching data from SAP by calling the remote functions from the custom portal. We are using SAP JCo 3.0.6 and IBM resource adapter for SAP 7.0.0.3 to integrate SAP with our portal.
    Is there any basic tuning to achieve to improve performances or any hint of where to tune in SAP ?
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks a lot,
    Jamal

    Hi Jamal,
    I understand you have already checked performance issues in the SAP Server. We had some problems with certain RFC calls and it turned out to be a badly developed ABAP sentence.
    I'd recommend you to use httpwatch or another tool to check the response times from the browser, so you can point accurately where the is.

  • "Case use" technique for SAP implementation?

    Hello all,
    has anyone used "case use" technique for SAP implementation? I mean for standard process, not only developing.
    Any recommendation about it?

    It would be helpful to go through the help document of ASAP Methodology.
    The following information may clarify some doubts/requirements you have.
    Generating the Project IMG through ASAP:
    After you have set the project scope, the next step is to generate the Project IMG. From the Business Process Master List (BPML), you can directly access the IMG activities relevant for configuring each process.
    BPML: The Business Process Master List, along with the Business Blueprint, is a key result of the second phase of the Roadmap. Microsoft Excel tables contain the SAP scenarios, process groups, and processes that have been set in scope in the SAP Reference Structure, and are crucial for configuring your SAP System. In Realization, the third phase of the Roadmap, the BPML provides the basis for monitoring and steering test activities and for configuring your SAP System. It contains the titles of the structure items, and displays the status, the owner, links to documentation and links to the SAP System. Amongst other things, the BPML allows you to:
    1) Set your baseline and final scope. These are used for baseline and final configuration.
    2) Access the Project IMG and specific IMG activities assigned to structure items.
    3) Access integration test plans, which help you carry out all required integration tests.
    The Prerequisite is you have set the project scope.
    Process Flow to use the Business Blueprint as a basis for configuring your SAP System:
    1) Set the project scope.
    2) Generate the Project IMG.
    3) Generate the BPML.
    4) From a specific processes in the BPML, you can go to the relevant IMG activities and make Customizing settings.

  • Time frame for SAP implementation query

    Hi guys,
    I am a university student and am currently trying to collect some information for my paper on development of ERP systems in industrial companies, particularly SAP. I'm meant to do some field research, but it is proving to be rather difficult, which is why I wanted to ask for some help from people who have experience in the implementation of the SAP system.
    What I'm looking for is the time frame that the SAP system takes to integrate into an industrial firm. Also, the scope of integration (ie how many and which modules were added on top of the core SAP system) and the number of users after the full implementation of the system.
    I don't need the name of particular companies, as I understand that that may be disclosing too much corporate information, but it would really help me if someone could give me a realistic time frame of the implementation process for SAP.
    Thank you, in advance!
    Anya

    Anya,
    Update to your queries:
    size of the company that this SAP implementation took place at:
    Answer : In terms of revenue $200 million +
    Interms of employees 6000+
    HR module in particular - whether it can be fully implemented separately and how long would it take?
    Answer:
    Definately, it can be fully implemeted and other modules may not be used
    Time period - 3+ months as Business packages are available in SAP.

    Ganga

  • SAP Roles and Access for SAP Implementation team members

    Hi,
    Is it correct practice to give SAP_ALL role access for all SAP Implementation team members in Dev and QA?
    If not, what is the correct practice?
    Kindly let me know

    Madhu,
    It is NOT correct practice to give anyone SAP_ALL in any of the systems; not DEV, not QAS, and certainly not PRD. However, many implementation teams (and particularly consultants from SIs) insist that they cannot possibly do their jobs without it. This is completely incorrect as there are specific roles for them to use for that purpose. The only circumstance where it could be justified is if you require a special "firefighter" role - and even then, I would still be a bit doubtful.
    You should also consider that once you have given someone SAP_ALL, they will fight tooth and nail to keep it. It also means that they probably are not testing the user roles correctly. Most of those that insist they need it simply do not understand the security issues and probably don't care.
    Just think; if they have access to do soemthing that they shouldn't and then cause a big problem, are they the ones that will have to fix it or are they going to expect you to do it? If they expect you to clear up after them, then you have the right to insist on restricting their access to cause issues in the first place.
    But I know just how demanding they can be....
    Best of luck
    Tony

  • Planning scenarios being used for SAP implementation at Foundry?

    Hi,
    Please share information on SAP Implementation at Foundry. Which scenario is most suitable? Foundry consists of various depts like Sand division, Core Shop, Melting Shop, Moulding Line, Fettling operation etc. How we can make use of SAP to control overall rejection at Foundry. What is the configuration etc..??

    Hi,
    u can use discreate manufacturing scenoria for core manufaturing.
    My suggestion is as follows,
    1.define the finished core as core assembly.
    2. since demand of core is decided from the demand of mold, u can define core assembly as bom item of Mold(under Mold BOM header).
    3.by doing this, during the MRP, systems gives procurements proposals for core assembly if there is no stock avalibale.
    4.so we ccan create seperate production order, and we can confirm yield and rejection qty.
    5.after production u can enter the rejection qty while conforing production order.
    letme know  if u have any futher doubt..

    Hi Vinit
    From Pharma Perspective , the solution in SAP should have below things
    1. As Already mentioned Batch Management is Key. I would like to add along with batch management , the batch release process along with certificates related to Batches plays a key role.
    2. Generally in pharma we have Make to order process , so it would be good to know about standard MTO flow .
    3. Another key aspect is Subcontracting process. Each Pharma company has its own subcontracting process defined but its one of the critical processes in Pharma industry.
    4. Planning with MRP also is important from the system set up .
    Hope this helps

  • Store documents for SAP installations in Germany

    Hi All,
    One of our clients has a single instance of SAP in Germany. It seems that according to the German VAT law we are NOT allowed to electronically store any documents such as invoices or credit notes on servers outside the European Union.
    I wanted to check if this is true and if anyone has encountered a similar situation for SAP implementations on Germany and how did you deal with this scenario.
    Any feedback/comments will be very helpful.

    > 1. How did you handle documnets that are physically stored in some other country but legally should be stored in Germany ?
    You either mirror them, or give them their own instance to work on and mirror it back.
    Another option is to use virtual companies, but in my experience that creates a mess and is not scalable (imagine all countries want this?).
    > 2. Can you please explain about the second point "export controls on encryption software", how is it usefull in this scenario.
    It was a thought. I did not say that it would be effectively usefull. Basically, the authorities want to be able to do a "morning raid" if required and confiscate / copy the disks for investigation. That is why they want the hardware physically within their legislative area...
    You can use encryption, but the keys (probably lots of them...) will be within legislative area as well, probably.
    You will need to contact your DB vendor about that.
    Possibly you can also contact the authorities and ask for an exception.
    Cheers,
    Julius

  • Sql Server configuration requirements for SAP ECC 6.0

    Dear  All,
    I am using Sql server 2005 Enterprise as data store for Sap ecc 6.0.There are certain configuration requirements to be done while installing it so that sapinst.exe (sap installer) is able to use it to create its own DB's.
    For eg it requires a collation of SQL_Latin1_General_CP850_BIN2 whereas the default that gets installed is SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS.
    Like this there are other requirements which I am not aware of.Most of the docs available on the Internet are talking of ecc 6.0  with Oracle 10.2G which is the most common combination.I am having docs for this combination.
    I am installing ecc for the first time.
    *I am unable to download docs from sap. marketplace as it requires a login given to certified users or sap purchasers.I am neither.*
    Can anyone help me with this.If anyone has ECC 6.0 installation guide with sql server it will be serve my purpose.
    Thanks for your efforts.

    "Excuse me?
    What he is doing is illegal , you know what that means, right? If you don't believe me, read the license that comes on the first installation DVD.
    Actually, I even think it's kind of barefaced to ask in the forum of the software vendor for help! I mean, it's like asking in a bank forum how to rob and fraud the bank! You - and many others - may think that it's right and ok to do that. I tell you: it is not. Not for "home use", not for personal use, not at all.
    You can use the software available here in the SDN to lean and study, that's why it's there.
    If you deal at all with copied software, then just be smart enough to make other people not notice. He can be happy if he's not prosecuted (which would legally be possible)."
    Do u understand what is legal or illegal? Have u read the license in full?
    The license does not put any limit on the number of users.So if I am using it means that one more user has been added by the license holder.
    Therefore there is nothing illegal about it.
    It would have unethical (not illegal) if the software is being used for a business purpose other than for which it has been purchased.
    Since it being used for training purpose the above does not hold good.
    In fact it is SAP who is benefited in the long run bec' after a person learns it technology because  he is going to implement it somewhere, for which the concerned user will have to purchase a license.Therefore I am helping SAP to increase its business.
    But there are some stupid people who don't understand these things but are ready to shout at the top of their voice thinking themselves to be intelligent.
