IBM DB2 9.7 Express-C instalation on remote machine
Hi guys,
I'm trying to install IBM DB2 9.7 Express-C on a remote machine that does not have xorg installed.
I've managed to enable forwarding X over ssh (tested on xeyes), but when i start db2setup, it doesn't do anything.
Output in console is this:
user@remotemachine$ ./db2setup
DBI1190I db2setup is preparing the DB2 Setup wizard which will guide
you through the program setup process. Please wait.
DBI1160I Non-root install is being performed.
If i login with root then the output is basically same:
user@remotemachine$./db2setup
DBI1190I db2setup is preparing the DB2 Setup wizard which will guide
you through the program setup process. Please wait.
I'm running latest arch with xfce4 with slim for starting DE.
Can anybody give me some poiners on how to install this?

Can 10g Express be installed on a machine that has MS SQL2000/2005?
I just discovered the 10g Express edition and I have been wanting to learn and work with Oracle for some time now so this is awesome.
I have a Windows 2003 Server here at my house that currently has both Microsoft SQL 2000 and Microsoft SQL 2005 developer and express editions installed on it. This is just a server of my own that I work with doing development work on my own in my own time in the off hours from work so it is nothing that is heavily loaded with mission critical applications or data or anything of that nature.
I was wondering if I could install Oracle 10g Express on the same machine or if there were known issues in attempting to install it on the same machine as the existing combination of SQL servers that I already have installed?
I have enough hardware processor and memory wise so that should not be a problem and again I am doing this as a way of learning and getting to know Oracle so I won't have any massive amounts of data or any other users other than myself working on it.
Thanks,
IraTom,
I fully understand what you mean so no worries there. I am hopeful that my mileage will be a nice round number, the server I mentioned has nothing on it aside from the various database servers I mentioned and a couple of virtual servers that I also run for development purposes, one of them simulating a Windows 2003 Web Server and the other simulating a Windows XP client machine.
Thanks for the advise and I look forward to my new venture into Oracle.

Unattended patch install from remote machine
Hi Friends,
I am planning to apply SQL server 2008 R2 SP3 on 50 instances.
But we don't have WSUS in our environment.
So can you please suggest how to apply SP3 (unattended installation) on 50 instances simultaneously using CMD or PowerShell through work station?
Please share your thought asap.
thanks in advance.
Regards,
Nik
Regards, NamanHi nikp11,
It is highly recommended that database administrator should backup all User and System database along with Resource database before applying any Security Updates, Cumulative Updates or Service Packs.
Below steps are to install SQL Server Service Pack unattended.
Click on the Start button on the task bar, click run, type the command CMD.exe, which opens the MS-DOS shell command prompt.
Execute the following command:
C:\install\SQLServer2008R2SP3-KB2546951-XXX-LLL.exe /ALLINSTANCES /QUIET /IACCEPTSQLSERVERLICENSETERMS
If you are using a network share then type the following command:
\\fileserver\shareddrive\SQLServer2008r2SP3-KB2546951-XXX-LLL.exe /ALLINSTANCES /QUIET /IACCEPTSQLSERVERLICENSETERMS
For more information about unattended installation, you could refer to :
http://www.databasejournal.com/features/mssql/article.php/3623126/SQL-Server-2005-150-Unattended-installation-150-Part-V.htm
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms144259(v=sql.105).aspx
If you are tying to install the service pack on different servers simultaneously, please refer to the link below for a sample Powershell script:

The other possible approach is to use System Center Configuration Manager, you can take the answer in the link below as reference:

IBM DB2 to Oracle Database Migration Using SQL Developer
Hi,
We are doing migration of the whole database from IBM DB2 8.2 which is running in WINDOWS to Oracle 11g Database in LINUX.
As part of pre-requisites we have installed the Oracle SQL Developer 4.0.1 (4.0.1.14.48) in Linux Server with JDK 1.7. Also Established a connection with Oracle Database.
Questions:
1) How can we enable the Third Party Database Connectivity in SQL Developer?
I have copied the files db2jcc.jar and db2jcc_license_cu.jar from the IBM DB2 (Windows) to Oracle (Linux)
2) Will these JAR files are universal drivers? will these jar files will support in Linux platform?
3) I got a DB2 full privileged schema name "assistdba", Shall i create a new user with the same name "assistdba" in the Oracle Database & grant DBA Privillege? (This is for Repository Creation)
4) We have around 35GB of data in DB2, shall i proceed with ONLINE CAPTURE during the migration?
5) Do you have any approx. estimation of Time to migrate a 35 GB of data?
6) In-case of any issue during the migration activity, shall i get an support from Oracle Team (We have a Valid Support ID)?
7) What are all the necessary Test Cases to confirm the status of VALID Migration?
Request you to share the relevant metalink documents!!!
Kindly guide me in-order to go-ahead with the successful migration.
Thanks in Advance!!!
Nagu
[email protected]Hi Klaus,
Continued with the above posts - Now we are doing another database migration from IBM DB2 to Oracle, which is very less of data (Eg: 20 Tables & 22 Indexes).
As like previous database migration, we have done the pre-requirement steps.
DB Using SQL Developer
Created Migration Repository
Connected with the created User in SQL Developer
Captured the Source Database
Converted Captured Model to Oracle
Before Translation Phase we have clicked on the "Proceed Summary"
Captured Database Objects & Converted Database Objects has been created under PROJECT section.
Here while checking the status of captured & converted database objects, It's showing the below chart as sample:

Kindly help us how to approach this issue now.

Today i found a reference , here it is

http://blog.triton.co.uk/2010/12/db2-beats-oracle-database-in-final-task-showdown/
they are saying "IBM DB2 is easier to administer than Oracle"
another one saying "DB2 beats Oracle Database in final task showdown"
so, whats your opinion sir ?

Hello,
On page 36 of the DF XI3.0 Installation Guide, there is a link for the IBM DB2 JDBC Universal Driver. When I click on this link I get the following error:
Downloads Message
2005-01-13 12:10:16.882164R download was not found in the database
Thanks for the help!
JasonHello
Thanks Scott for your reply. We have resolved this issue in house as follows:
- our Systems Support team installed the DB2 Connect client software on the DF server
- copied the jar file to the leselect/drivers directory
Also, because we are using the z series we needed an additional driver db2jcc_license_cisuz.jar which was copied into the same drivers dir.
Thanks!

SAP EHP5 MSCS installation with IBM DB2 9.7 on windows 2008 R2
Dear Sir
i am installing SAP EHP5 high availability with IBM DB2 9.7 on windows 2008 R2
first cluster node installation is completed,
now i am going to install database instance, before that i am configuring the database for MSCS as per installation guide,
but the database group is note creating in Failover cluster manager.
if you have any solution please reply
regards
gourishankar baikerikarHI,
Thats a printing mistake in installation guide..
copy db2mscs.ese file to db2mscs.cfg ...
Remove all the unwanted stuff like explination of parameter paragraphs
Confgure required parameters like below and make sure there are no unwanted spaces in the txt file.
#Global section
DB2_INSTANCE = DB2SID
DB2_LOGON_USERNAME = XXXXXX\db2sid
DB2_LOGON_PASSWORD = password
CLUSTER_NAME = GXXXXX
MSCS Group for Node 0
GROUP_NAME = DB2 SID Group
DB2_NODE = 0
#IP_NAME = DB2 IP SID
#IP_ADDRESS=192.168.0.xx
#IP_SUBNET=255.255.255.0
#IP_NETWORK=Ethernet(3)
NETNAME_NAME = DB2 NetName SID
NETNAME_VALUE = DB2SID
#NETNAME_DEPENDENCY = DB2 IP SID
Open you cluster console and select NODE A there you should be able to identify the disks for DB clustering,
Copy that name and paste it here for DISK_NAME
DISK_NAME = DATABASE_CD2
DISK_NAME = DBLOGS_CD4
#INSTPROF_DISK = Disk M:
#TARGET_DRVMAP_DISK = Disk M:
With the above process you should be able to cluster your DB.
2) Please provide all the steps that you were identified to install , that would give more clarity to reply back where ever required.
Thanks,

Opinions on IBM DB2 Intelligent Miner for Data...
I'm going to be getting into Oracle data mining or the IBM DB2
Intelligent Miner for Data. The info given out by IBM (online at
http://www-3.ibm.com/software/data/iminer/fordata) indicates
that it ought to be okay if I've got an Oracle database. I've
installed Oracle8i Enterprise Edition (8.1.7) on Windows 2000; &
I've got the 9i installer cd's (I've not gotten that far yet).
For now, I'm interested in opinions on if/whether I ought to go
with Oracle Data Mining (9i, I guess...is this an option in 8i?)
or the IBM data mining option. I'm looking for an intuitive
interface, obvious & easy-to-follow instructions (if this
exists); & features, I guess. Is one going to offer a nicer
overall interface but be limiting?, etc. Thanks,
Noel WhelanUpdate
i had another hanpup in BW.
Our AIX level is : 6100-05-01-1016 (released in 4/2010)
I find an APAR for TL4 from 4/2010, which shows the same behaviour.
So i'll try db2_use_iocp=off
Info to APAR:
APAR Number: IZ74508
APAR status
Closed as program error.
Error description
When IOCP is on and used by DB2 at AIX 6.1 TL04, DB2
calls
sqloGetMultipleCompletionStatus() which in turn
calls AIX's IOCP extension.
The IOCP call GetMultipleCompletionStatus() never returns
causing I/O to stop when DB2 is in it's page cleaning
routines.
Local fix
1. Stay at 6.1 TL03 and below
or
2. Do not activate IOCP in DB2.
We will see how it works.

AWM to access objects of IBM-DB2
Hi Experts,
How can we use AWM 11.1.0.7.0B tool to access the tables and views from DB2 Database (AS-400). To be more specific i want my source objects to be from DB2 Database. Is it possible?
I have installed DRDA Gateway (Transparent Gateway 11.1) however, unable to configure the Gateway.
Please Help!!!!
Regards,+
Ravi Remje+In general you need to define a view in your Oracle database that refers to the remote tables in the IBM database.
Can OLAP cube load from remote database?
I don't know anything about the Transparent Gateway problem. -
Download + Installation IBM DB2 Everyplace
Hi,
i have some problems with the download/installation of IBM DB2 Everyplace.
I want to use the database instead of file system, the configuration is ME 2.1 SP03 PL07 and MAM 2.5 SR03 on PDA HP iPAQ with Intel PXA270 and Windows Mobile 2003 SE. With ME 2.1 SP03 PL07 it is possible to use database version 8.2 or 8.2.1 (SAP-Note 677476).
Before download from service marketplace, you have to obtain a licence through SAP.
First question: how to get a license?
Alternatively i downloaded the database V8.2 directly from IBM homepage, after installation i have the following files on my desktop computer:
db2ejdbc.jar, CryptoPlugin.dll, DB2e.dll and DB2eJDBC.dll
Second question: is it possible/how to deploy these files with Web Console?
SAP-Note 784432: Upload as Add-On: db2e82_ME21.zip
Third question: what is the content of this file?
Thanks,
CarstenHi Carsten Zimmermann ,
Create a ADDON Component -Type Using WebConsole.
Just rename the downloaded zip files to ur Component-Types name.Upload the zip file u have downloaded .
Upload this zip file corresponding to this Component Type.
Assign this as the firt Application to the particualr Device (by manually or by role synchronization).This data base files must be the first application for all devices.
This zip files contains,
some jar files -
these are acting as database connector for DB2E.
DLL files -
these are linking libraries required for proper working
install.xml file -
this contains the installation instructions.(Actually after getting downloaded to the client device , the jar files and the DLL files are copied to proper folders , using the instructions we have written in the install.xml file.).
In this install.xml file , we can see the instructions to change the contents of the MobileEngine.config file in a manner to support the DB2E as local database. This is the first process to carry out during installation process. Then copyn the associated jar files to the lib directory in the mobile installation. Then copy the DLL files to the System directory . then add the referece of the jar files copied to the lib folder in the listOfJar.txt file. This file contains the details of jar files which are to be loaded while starting the MobileEngine.
You can download a sample version of DB2E from SDN itself. Just download that . from that u will get a picture of what are the files needed for DB2E.
In that , u can see a install.xml file (installation instruction file) u just have to modify that according to ur requirements
Regards
Kishor Gopinathan -
I was wondering if someone can assist with the following. I'd like to start
writing queries in SQL and utilize Management Studio. Does anyone know how to
connect to IBM DB2 database? I've been able to connect to this via Crystal Reports, WINSQL, MS Access. I'm testing the 2014 Express Edition and would love to learn more about SQL.You are missing some important points - and making some rather grand assumptions. SSMS is a tool that one uses to manage and develop sql server databases (and code). It is not intended to be used to do the same thing for any other vendor - though
it might work to some unknown degree.
And you assume that the sql dialect and techniques used to manage / program DB2 are the same (or very similar) to those used with sql server. You might find someone in these forums who has experience with systems (and versions) of both vendors - but
it is not very likely. So if you intend to learn tsql and sql server, your best approach is to use sql server with SSMS. It is IMO unwise for a novice to attempt to use SSMS to manage a server/database from a different vendor. I'm certain that
basic sql syntax is supported by each vendor's dialect, but more advanced functionality is likely to be very different.
Thank you. I just simply want to learn T-SQL and query against a database I'm familiar with. -

}1)IBM document says that you use COM.ibm.jdbc.net.DB2Driver when you use Applets
2)For applications use COM.ibm.jdbc.app.DB2Driver
3)Both these files are in db2java.zip file
4)db2java.zip is the DB2 driver just like classes111.zip is the driver for Oracle
6)You need to put db2java.zip in your classpath.
5)If you are using COM.ibm.jdbc.net.DB2Driver and you are getting "COM.ibm.db2.jdbc.DB2Exception: [IBM][JDBC Driver] CLI0616E Error opening socket
. SQLSTATE=08S01 "
you need to run "db2jstrt" on the target host(machine running DB2) with the specified port as the parameter
6)If you are using COM.ibm.jdbc.app.DB2Driver and getting " java.sql.SQLException: No suitable driver ", most probably db2java.zip is not in classpath.
7)Note : you need to install DB2 client software on the application machine, just putting the zip file does not work.
8)There is a Java file at IBM that walks you thru the connection.
ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/software/websphere/info/tools/jdbctest
Just download in into the client machine, compile and run it. -

This is how my classpath and path looks
classpath :.;C:\Program Files\JDEdwards\BPMBroker\JRE\1.3\lib\ext\QTJava.zip;C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.6.0_20\lib\tools.jar;C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.6.0_20\lib\dt.jar;C:\Program Files\Java\jre6\lib\rt.jar;C:\Sun\db2java.zip;C:\Sun\COM\ibm\db2\jdbc\app\DB2Driver.class;C:\Program Files\IBM\WebSphere\AppServer\derby\lib\deprecated\db2jcc.jar;C:\Program Files\IBM\WebSphere\AppServer\derby\lib\deprecated\db2jcc_license_cu.jar;
path : C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.6.0_20\bin;C:\Sun\db2java.zip;
I don't know what to do and everytime i try to test my connection i get this error .
Please help.
Thank youI added Driver Classname =com.ibm.db2.jcc.DB2Driver

many thanks for you help. But the problem still persists.
1. We don't have $ODBCINI. There are no conection issues at all. Connection is performed by IBM Data Server Client (db2client) db2 connect to ...
2. For which stored procedures do we need to apply these Grants? We manually exported the available historical data from the TrendingDB to CSV files, connected to the database server with db2 connect... (on the app server), imported these CSV with the same user, it all went smoothly. We granted some DML's to the database user. also granted DBADM and SECADM to the database user as well, just to be sure there are no permission issues.
The Error message seems to indicate There is a problem finding the correct driver for monitoring database, since it says,
networkLayer "ODBC"
DBMS "DB2"
com.sap.connectivity.cs.core.CSError: Specified RDBMS is invalid : DB2.
- Maby IBM Data Server Client (db2client) is not supported for monitoring database at all?
- Do we have to install additional DB2 clients like DB2 CLI driver or ODBC client instead?
Thanks in advance
