Ibm MP4, divx, jmf 2.1.1e

Hello.
I've tested the above configuration to play a standard divx. i had problems, of course, and nothing finally works.
Using jmf studio on XP, i get a pink background, and finally the program refuses to exit. In software mode (no acceleration selected in windows), nothing better. it loads plays something (hard drive accesses) and then crashes. Still with the pink background.
Anyone succeeded in playing a divx? if so, what codec was used to compress the file?
Thanks a lot

Yes, i can play it in the windows media player, which is the most intriguing.
The codec used is DX50, that the ibm codec is said to decompress. In some parts, it does, as the playing starts.
By the way, that IBM logo is dumb. I can't understand why they cripple the codec for the 'evaluation version', if they even don't have a registred version. I'd love to register it, if it was possible, and if the codec was running correctly.. :<

  • Video problems - mp4, DivX, QuickTime compatibility, converting m2t

At first my Mac didn't recognize AVI files natively in QuickTime, but VLC could play them. I installed DivX and now it will play AVI, .mov and .mp4 converted from an m2t stream (using VisualHub and MPEG StreamClip), and most other formats, however, certain *.mp4 files that were working before now no longer work in Quick Look or QuickTime. As far as I can tell, they are all videos converted from YouTube with TubeSock. What could be causing this? Before DivX, QuickTime played them; now, they're simply plain white videos with the sound intact.

Can you run get info on the files in quicktime player? It might be worth uninstalling DivX and trying Perian instead.
If you prefer to get to the bottom of the issue instead of just working around it, dig up the video on Youtube again, re-download and re-convert. See if it happens again.
If it does, go back to the youtube page again and open the activity window in safari. Here you will find an entry with a drop down arrow for each tab or window you have open. They are all labelled with their URLs. Find the YT page and click the drop arrow. This will give you a load more YT URLs. You are looking for one with .flv in it (not necessarily at the end). Click this one to highlight it, then copy it. Then open the downloads window and paste into it. The flash video will now download. (This is what Tubesock is doing for you.)
Try converting the .flv again with Visual Hub or Streamclip. If it still goes wrong at least you have eliminated Tubesock as the culprit.

  • QT X freezes during playback

No matter the video type(iTunes video, mp4, divx) after about 12 minutes playback stops and appears to jump 1frame back and then forward continously. Does not matter if video is on the internal drive or external.
Behavior started roughly 1 month ago.
Do not experience this with VLC.

  • Exporting to web

I want to export my movie to a website ( not youtube) what settings do I use after I finish editing to get the best quality compression for exporting to the web.

    charles tee wrote:
I want to export my movie to a website .. what settings do I use ..
short answer: any format/settings, the website supports.
long answer: do we speak of a 'video service'? as YT, or vimeo, or .. ? then read its Help/FAQ, what they support. most services limit bandwidth/size, restrict to a max. resolution (720x480, or .. ), support just a few codecs (wmv, mp4, divx, h264, ... ) or special media-containers (avi, mov, ...) , finally file-sizes (100MB, 500MB, 2GB, ... )
if you like to 'share' on your own, self-coded site, the question adds: what codecs does your audience use? flv. is, due to its popularity with YT, widely accepted - but you need 3rd party apps to generate flash-video. (on video-services, this converting takes place automatically ... you upload your h264 file, reast is done by them) ..
so, if you can give us a lil' more detail, or tell us the service, you like to use, we can probably give a more detailed advice ..

  • How To Use mpeg2 Files ?

I have used TiVo Decode Manager for years to transfer files from my TiVo unit to my computer. I've always transfered into the mp4 format, for use in iTunes and on my iPod. I just noticed an option to transfer into the mpeg2 format, which I understand is used for compression on DVD's. I can't seem to import the mpeg2 file into iDVD, and when burned to disc, the raw file plays audio but not video on my stand-alone DVD player. How might I use the mpeg2 file in iDVD to create a finished DVD? Thanks for any help.

DVDSP and Toast Support adding Mpeg-2 files but unfortunately iDvd will not. Per the following KB article from apple's web site:
You can’t add MPEG-1 or MPEG-2 files to an iDVD project because they don’t contain standard video tracks.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=iDVD/7.0/en/6655.html
But you can use Toast. The Help Menu within Toast 9 states the following:
You can add any QuickTime-supported video files, such as DV, AVI,
MOV, HDV (1080i/720p), and MPEG-4. You can also add files that
QuickTime doesn’t support such as iMovie HD projects, MPEG-2,
DivX, Eye-TV recorded shows, and TiVoToGoTM transfers.
And of course Apple's DVDSP offers native support of Mpeg-2 but it's much more expensive and takes significantly longer to learn than the other option/s offered above.
Other viable options include Visual Hub and MpegStreamclip (free download):
    OVERVIEW OF MPEG STREAMCLIP
MPEG Streamclip is a converter, an exporter, a player, an editor, a downloader.
It can open many file formats: muxed files MPEG, MPG, VOB, PS, M2P, MOD, VRO, DAT, DCM, VDR, PVR; transport streams TS, M2T, MTS, MMV, REC, VID, AUD, AVR, TP, TP0, TRP, TOD; demuxed files M2V, M1V, MPV, AIFF, AIF, M1A, MP2, MPA, AC3; QuickTime-compatible files MOV, DV, AVI, MP4, DIVX, WMV, FLV; pictures TIFF, JPEG.
MPEG Streamclip supports MPEG-1 video, MPEG layer 1/2 audio, AC3/A52 audio and PCM audio. MPEG-2 video is supported in conversions, but for playback and export you have to buy the MPEG-2 Playback Component ($19.99) from Apple.
To open DivX files, you have to install one of the free DivX-compatible codecs (DivX 5 or 6, 3ivx, XviD).
To open WMV files, you can install the free Flip4Mac WMV Player from http://www.flip4mac.com/ . Export to WMV is supported if you buy Flip4Mac WMV Studio.
To open FLV files you have to install Perian, a free codec pack, from http://www.perian.org/. But note that currently, Perian does not "obsolete" or replace other codecs so you still have to install 3ivx, DivX, XviD when required.
Hope this helps but if not just come on back.

  • Videos to DVD

How can I make a DVD from videos I downloaded from internet?
I made a DVD and my DVD players can't read it. I remember there was a warning about burning data or something.
    Thank you,

To make a standard video DVD, you need some sort of "authoring" tool to convert, compress, and lay down the stuff on the DVD in the normal Video DVD format. iTunes can not do this and only burns out files to a DVD as a data disc. You might look into programs such as Toast (a commercial application) which can do what you want.
Or you can buy a DVD player that can also play MP4, Divx, or other computer file formats directly, then convert your videos to that format (if not already). Again, iTunes doesn't do this. You would need to find third party applications to covert (of which there are many).

When it comes to video files, nothing is ever as easy as it should be. Thankfully, VLC Media Player offers a one-stop solution for the file-format problem. The program supports playback of OGG, MP2, MP3, MP4, DivX, DVD, and a whole slew of other file types. In addition, it also can function as a streaming media server. Because of its open-source foundation, VLC Media Player evolves quickly, with new features and fixes released frequently. Though the interface varies from platform to platform, the sparseness of the Windows version leaves plenty to be desired. The skinned mode perks things up slightly, but the program seems to suffer from unpredictable behavior when skinned. Also, the basic task of opening a file is far more confusing than it should be; the program gives you several options, including the head-scratching Quick Open File. Overall, though, VLC Media Player is a must-have application for its ability to open just about any type of video file you throw at it.

.. in case, you're speaking of the exported files size of an iM project, instead of using the few presets, choose Export/Quicktime/Expert settings .. and use any of the many options.. as 'resizing'/resolution to 320x240, diff. framerate, e.g. 15fps, different codec, e.g. h264, mp4, divx (if installed) ..

  • Best way to convert .vro without losing quality?

Hello there fellow Apple Lovers! I have a question regarding the .vro format. So I have a youtube channel (gaming) and I want to start recording my xbox gameplay. TO do so, I use my Pioneer DVR-RT401 DVD Recorder. Now after recording, I put the dvd into my mac and use these commands to make it useable:
    mount
    sudo ls -l /Volumes/StorageLabs\ TinyUDF\ Volume/
    sudo cp -R /Volumes/StorageLabs\ TinyUDF\ Volume/ ~/Desktop
Those commands leave me with a Folder Entitled DVD-RTAV, and in that folder, two files:
         VR_MANGR.IFO
         VR_MOVIE.VRO
I can play the .vro using VLC media Player, and the quality is okay, however, If I want to import these files into iMovie(which i do), I need to convert them. FOr converting I use Visual Hub, and convert it to the iTunes format with the quality SLlider on Go Nuts!
But upon viewing the converted video, I'm left with an unprofessional effect similar to iMovie's Raster Effect. Does anyone know of a Free program that can convert .vro files better?

    Hmmm, havent tried it, but...

  • Ipad 4 can't play 1080p videos

    Hi,
I am using an iPad4 running iOS8.3. I recently discovered that iPad4 cannot play (and not even display) my 1080p video taken using iPhone 6 in the photos app. However, when i used a software to downconvert the above video to 720p, iPad can play it. Next I did another experiment, I then tried to convert the 1080p video from .mov format to .mp4 (DivX) format - same resolution. Similarly it could not be played.
This lead to the strange conclusion my iPad4 cannot play 1080videos in the photos app?
    Any help/advice is greatly appreciated.

  • Converting .MTS for use in Final Cut Express, without loosing quality

I have an external hard drive full of .MTS files from my JVC camcorder that I cannot open with Final Cut Express.
I bought a piece of conversion software, iSkySoft Video Converter, to convert them into a more accessible format such as .mov or .avi, but they lose their HD quality during the conversion. I have also tried software available through Mac, Voltaic, but this also seems to dilute picture quality.
In a previous post, I was recommended Clip Wrap, but having downloaded it, it will not let me open my .MTS files to convert in the first place. I have contacted Clip Wrap Support about this, but am yet to hear back.
I would like suggestions as to how to open these .MTS files in Final Cut, or a piece of conversion software that retains full high definition quality when converting.
I am not very computer savvy, Im afraid, so can any technical jargon be explained as best as possible please! Just for reference, in case it helps, my camcorder is a JVC GZ-HD10.
    Thank you.

MarkTrif, if iskysoft isn't working, use mpeg streamclip to try again, it is free. or get another good third party MTS converter like HD Video Converter for Mac, specially designed to convert HD video formats like AVCHD (mts, m2ts), H.264/AVC, MPEG-2 (ts), DivX, HD WMV, MPEG-4 to SD videos like AVI, MPEG, WMV, MP4, DivX, MOV, my friends recommend it to me, it's safe and works pretty well for me. keep the video image quality. • "Error in parsing VOL information: null" problem

Hi. I have a problem where I'm using a the IBM codec and JMF to render a live mp4v-es/rtp stream from an axis IP camera. The DataSource is showing that i have the data streaming and i create and realize the player but when I go and start the player, it tells me "Error in parsing VOL information: null" and stops the player. There is no information whatsoever on this error anywhere and I don't know what I'm doing wrong. It seems to happen when BasicController.TimedStartThread.start() is called. What is the VOL information????? I am only streaming video so maybe it's expecting audio as well??? I really dont know. Help!!!!!!
Also, is the IBM MPEG4 codec the only one that decodes mp4v-es/rtp streams?? The FOBS one does its for mp4v/rtp, mp4v-es/90000 but not this exact one.

VOL in this case means "video object layer". It's the part of an mpeg4 bitstream that carries basic information on the stream. Without having read that no decoder will be able to configure itself. VOL headers are transmitted frequently, but not on a "per frame basis", there may be a couple of seconds between them. If you have any way of increasing timeouts, waiting a little longer might help.
The IBM codec may be the only one to decode those streams in JMF, I don't know. It's certainly not the only one in the real world.

  • Probably the 2000st post about file types

    Hi,
This post has been probably made 2000 times but I can't give any feedback to Adobe themselves so I thought why not here. Maybe somebody reads it.
I love Adobe.. I use Photoshop CS3, Dreamweaver CS3 every day at work and I really can't live without it. So I thought, why not try a video editing program of Adobe. It must be good!
So I downloaded Premiere Pro CS3 and played around. I'm really bugged out by the product though. I'm not a professional video editor so correct me if I am wrong but I use the main file extensions an all day user would use. If i look in the list Premiere only accepts avi, mov, wmv & wma. Where the heck are : mpg, mpeg, mp1, mp2, mp4, divx, qt, ram, VOB (Regular DVD!!!)and so on.. these are the basic file types.
I mean this is like the iPhone which claims to have full internet but doesnt support Flash (95% of the internet is Flash)...
I'm not looking for an answer here but just a bit bugged out that an Adobe product is cripple as f***. I'm not used to this with Adobe.
AH well, maybe they will make a product someday to support the regular files each user has on the internet.

Also, is the version that you downloaded is the "trial," or the "full," with registration key/SN and Activation?
MPG (many flavors) are supported by the FULL, but not the "trial" versions. The support of MPG will differ, depending on what sort of MPG it is. There will likely be some problems, that will be specific to that particular file. You can often get good results, if things line up perfectly. However, as others have stated, compressed file formats are not what PPro is designed to work with. Quality will suffer. Problems with GOPs will exist. If you do not mind these, then the FULL version will work, with limitations.
As for VOB handling, that will not happen, except with intermediate steps taken BEFORE you try to Import into PPro. You'll need a full toolbox of utilities, but most are freeware, or rather inexpensive. Still, this work will be outside of PPro.
The FULL version has a 30-day, money-back guarantee. If you have the trial version, remove it completely. See Eddie Lotter's PPro-Wiki for complete details and follow EVERY step! THEN, and only THEN, install the full version. Try out the MPG aspects and see if you can live with the results and the little problems. I think it works fine with many of these files, just so long as I inform the client that there WILL be a quality loss and extra time to trouble-shoot. They still bring in compressed formats, so if they're happy, I'm happy.

  • No sound/audio...

Whenever I pull in a .mov, .mp4, .divx, .avi, or any type of video file into Final Cut, I have problems. Not only is there NO audio attached to the file (it's just a video track), when editing it is inaccurate with the precise edits... it always adds or subtracts frames from what I originally chopped.
However, the thing I'm most concerned about now is getting the audio from my video files into FCP. Please help!

All these files are likely muxed stuff off the internet, no?
Convert them to Quicktime DV-NTSC or something like that and you'll be good to go.
Or buy Vegas. It reportedly does mash-ups without regard to copywrite ownership issues.
