IBM Notes with Mavericks

I am having some trouble on a couple of accounts using IBM Notes with Mavericks. On my workstation, I upgraded to Mavericks and installed the new IBM Notes 9.0.1 with no troubles. However on two other Macs of the same model, I upgraded them to Mavericks and installed IBM Notes and then Notes did not run after the initial setup procedure. It will begin to launch, but will just drop out.
The curious thing was, I entered the Admin account on one of them and launched IBM Notes and entered the information for setup, using the Mac user's info, and it runs just fine in that Admin account. However, it will not run in the user's account. So, what may be the problem on his account that prevents it from running?
The following comes from a part of IBM Notes' Expeditor logs resulting from one of the failed attempts to launch that app:
CWPNL0097E: Could not open /Users/temp/Library/Application Support/Lotus Notes Data/Expeditor/Applications/.config/args.properties for writing! : Permission denied
I don't know if this is a critical point or not.

You may need to rebuild permissions on your user account. To do this, boot to your Recovery partition (holding down the Command and R keys while booting) and open Terminal from the Utilities menu. In Terminal, type:  ‘resetpassword’ (without the ’s), hit return, and select the admin user. You are not going to reset your password. Click on the icon for your Macs hard drive at the top. From the drop down below it select the user account which is having issues. At the bottom of the window, you'll see an area labeled Restore Home Directory Permissions and ACLs. Click the reset button there. The process takes a few minutes. When complete, restart.

  • Photoshop Elements 11 bug with Yosemite not with Maverick

    Dear all,
Since I upgraded my OS from Maverick to Yosemite on my Macbook Air, I have a new bug in Photoshop Elements 11 : when I move an element and release the left click, the element return to its initial position. It's very frustrating.
    Steps to Reproduce:
    1. Create a new element text
    2. Move it with the left click to another place
    3. Release the left click
    Expected Results:
I expected that the element stays in the new position.
    Actual Results:
The element return to its initial position. So the move doesn't work.
I can only move the element with the arrows of the keyboard but that's not the best way.
Thank you for your help on this,

    Hi,
Are you using track pad for this operation?
If yes, please use mouse instead and see if your issue is resolved.
    Thanks!!

  • How to sync "Galaxy Note 2" notes with Mavericks

    Hi,
My Samsung Galaxy Note 2 cellphone has a great feature:
pull out its little screen-pen  --which is handily held in a slot
right in the phone--  and a note-writing interface pops up where
I can jot down stuff and save it for later reference.
Thing is, my Samsung Galaxy Note 2 is the only place, currently,
where these little note-pearls are stored.
It would be great to sync them with something on my Mavericks
    Mac, and, vice-versa i.e., when I update or create a note/memo
on my Mac, it would also update my Samsung Galaxy Note 2 phone.
    Anybody got any suggestions?
    (I have a gmail account.)
    Many thanks!

well, the note 2 is a global phone. it's set to gsm which is what every provider in india uses. and voice and text are working fine at any rate--so that's obviously not the problem.
is there anybody reading who's actually had and dealt with this problem?

  • Logic Pro 8... not with Mavericks !

Logic Pro 8 gets all black, behind the playhead.
Before, on Lion 10.7.5, it was working fine.
Now, on Mavericks, it is **** !
Mavericks was free... but now I will have to spend $200.00 on Logic Pro X.
I should have stayed with the old system.

You can try reverting to 10.7.5.
Revert to a Previous OS X
Revert to former OS from Mavericks

the problem I have since I upgraded to Mavericks version 10.9.1
The problem appears only with Mail not with other programs, not even with my browser.
When I try to zoom the text of an e-mail I received or sent , I can no longer use the keys Command + to enlarge the text, although I can reduce it with Command -.
As I have a problem with my eyes, This is a serious matter for me.
When I write an e-mail, if I select text and press Command +, it just displaces the text to the right.
Now, my husband has a USB keyboard. If he connects it to my computer, his regular Command + does not work either, but  he uses the extended keyboard, then it works. Unfortunately, he needs it for a musical application which does not work with a wireless keyboard.

Firefox 3.6.4 and 3.6.6 use a process called, "plugin-container.exe" which was using up most of my CPU when I opened up multiple tabs that contained Adobe Flash files, and caused Firefox to lock up.
My solution was to use Firefox 3.5.10 which you can get from the Mozilla website at [http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html]
I am using Adobe Flash 10.1.53.64 without any problem in this version of Firefox. Check the release notes, I believe it contains all the latest security fixes in "Firefox 3.6.4".
Hopefully, they will fix Firefox 3.6 in the next version (e.g. Firefox 3.6.7), until then you should probably use "Firefox 3.5.10".

  • ESATA express card does not work with Mavericks. Any suggestions?

This is an Apiotek II 300 Express Adapter. I went out to Apiotek.com and it appears the domain is for sale. Is there any way to get a software update or do I have to buy a new Express Card that allows eSATA drives to work with Mavericks. I did a backup before I upgraded using X 10.7.5 and everything worked fine. The eSATA drive is not seen using Disk Utility either.
Thanks for any help or suggestions.

The driver has to come from the manufacturer of the card, so your two options are to get another card or to use your full backup to go back to 10.7.5. That assumes it's a clone backup and not Time Machine.

  • I've updated my Macbook Pro and my iMac with Maverick, updating the various apps. On my Macbook, everything functions perfectly. On my iMac, I get the Your System has Run out of Application Memory, and it's based our Mail, the only app not updated. Ideas?

    Maverick and Your System message
I've updated my Macbook Pro and my iMac with Maverick, updating the various apps (Pages, Aperture, iPhoto, Numbers & iMovie, too) in the process.
On my Macbook, everything functions perfectly. On my iMac, I get the Your System has Run out of Application Memory message. But it's not Calendar, it's Mail that not only won't open, but when it does now, it takes the entire system out with it.
I open Safari, and it works. I open Firefox, and it works and Safari still works. I open Calendar and it works, Safari and Firefox continue to work. I open Reminders, and everything still works.
I open Aperture, and it opens Finder instead, showing the 3.5 update that was installed two days ago (and Aperture has functioned), but doesn't seem to update the app; after about 20 seconds the update disappears and I can now open Aperture and it shows I'm now opening the updated Aperture, which it didn't show before.
I click on Mail, and the cursor spins for ten minutes. The mail window finally opens, but the cursor spins and does not connect to upload new mail, and I finally Force Quit Mail. Since the Maverick update, even though Mail was not updated (and maybe because Mail was not updated), I have been able to receive emails twice, and then the program crashed.
Besides the Aperture app, Pages didn't fully update on the iMac, and I had to remove the old Pages icon from the dock after the new program loaded up from Applications.
    Any ideas?

  • New MacBook Pro with Mavericks- reformat or not?

    Hi folks,
Background:  I had a lovely MacBook Pro running Snow Leopard which died on me and so I replaced it last week with this equally lovely late 2013 Retina 15" 2.3GHz i7 MacBook Pro which, obviously, came with Mavericks.
But since I was under pressure to get work out I actually set myself up on this Mac, using Mavericks, thinking to just drag some of my files from the old MacBook Pro's hard drive (already in a caddy) to "stock up" my new computer with files I needed when I discovered the Migration Assistant and, perhaps, ill-advisedly just migrated the lot.
I have used it fine with only three applications of, quite literally, a hundred or so lost to me and two glitches probably due to "confused" preferences, but I know that having done it this way is not ideal.  I have the original Mavericks based User (hidden of course) and the migrated one.
Snow Leopard versus Mavericks:  I very much like Snow Leopard and I don't actually dislike Mavericks as much as I thought I might.  But if I were to have to choose one OS over the other the one which would save me money would possibly win.
My problem with Mavericks is two-fold:  1. I have Photoshop CS (yes, OLD.  But I cannot justify buying upgrades and it works well for what I use it for) and cannot now run it, and 2.  I MUST be able to run Final Cut Pro (6 but I recently bought 7 finally) on it reliably (and I have never had crashes under Snow Leopard, never EVER, but had already one in just one week with Mavericks, possibly due to the way the application arrived on the machine I realise).
My only problem with Snow Leopard is that it is not as cool as Mavericks but for a video editor that is not the be all and end all of it...
What I would like help with is:
    1.  Could I even have this new Mac run well enough with ancient Snow Leopard (so that I can rescue Photoshop CS)?
    2.  If absolutely, categorically now- how do I start over?  I mean- uninstall the migrated User and take the machine to factory settings?  IS it as simple as reformatting (I ask the "silly" question due to the fact that I have not yet worked with a computer which doesn't have install disks) and then reinstalling the software (yes- I have an external hard drive now)?
    3.  How to effectively "pick the bones" of the old hard drive (I still have the hard drive in the caddy I can take files from-  it has become a sort of "time capsule" of my old MacBook Pro) so that I don't mess up Mavericks but still get things like my old email, iPhotos and some installed applications which I am not sure I can find the download links for (even though I have my purchased serial numbers they are often not associated with the download website and with so many I am concerned that I might lose some).
Thank you so much for reading.

Thank you so much for reading.
CS3 and newer will run, CS2 or older will not.
You can not run Snow Leopard on your machine (unless you run the Server version in a virtual machine)
Erase your Mac, use Setup Assistant and do the migration correctly, start with an empty Mac (like a new one is)
As for FCP, there are mixed reports, some say it will not install but once installed (?) will run OK, you can but try.

Get onto the integrated iOS + Mac OS and end support for "legacy" Mac 10.8 and earlier.
Force older hardware users like me to upgrade to new hardware which is where $$ are.
Make apps work across tablets, phone, and computer with similar (though not the "same" app, but able to read and use the same file format).
    Simplify.
I don't think anyone incl. Microsoft knew Windows 8.1 was going to be a free upgrade, I didn't and read that it would be more like $30.
No OS is ready for everyone on the day it is launched. iOS 7 is now 7.04 and climbing, Mac OS tends to really not be ready until the last patch and version is out, often a year or more after it was first issued. Ship it, then plan to fix the bugs left in or that surface.
www.macperformanceguide.com is saying "No" to Maverick for now. Of course there will be no "No" on new Mac Pro 2013 6,1 when those ship (Late Jan? )

  • My new mac mini with Maverick does not go to deep sleep even if i press power button or Apple-Sleep mode.

    Hi.
I have my new mac mini with Maverick that does not go to deep sleep even if i press power button or menu Apple-Sleep mode. He goes only to something like stand-by  (power lid is on; after i turn off and then turn on the power he does not wake up just starting). I tried "sudo pmset -a hibernatemode X", tried mode 0,1,3, and even 25. nothing helps. he goes to deep sleep (when all data on HDD) only first time after i change hibernatemode couple times and force it to sleep. Today i even tried to force it to sleep (menu Apple-Sleep mode) and NOT turn off the power for whole night, in the morning he is in this "stand-by" mode anyway.
Could anyone help me please? i need it sleep but don't want to keep my power on for whole night.

The warranty entitles you to complimentary phone support for the first 90 days of ownership.
If you bought the product in the U.S. directly from Apple (not from a reseller), you have 14 days from the date of delivery in which to exchange or return it for a refund. In other countries, the return policy may be different. If you bought from a reseller, its return policy applies.

  • There was away (before Mavericks) I could single click on an email and it would highlite but not open.  I could either delete or second click and the email would then open.  Can anyone tell me how to configure the prevue pane to that end with Mavericks?

There was a way (before Mavericks) I could single click on an email in the "prevue pane" and it would highlite but not open.  I could then either delete it or click again and it would open.  With Mavericks that doesn't seem to be available making it impossible to delete an email in the prevue pane before I open it.  Its frustrating to have to go through all the monkey motions when I know I want to delete it from the get-go.  Does anyone know who to configure for that operation?  I'm using an iMac.

Wow,  have you ever seen 1 Billion in hard cash?  If not, I assure you it exists as well.
Try not to pick apart what others write because you "have not seen it."
I run TWO programs for protection of my MAC now and have been for sometime b/c developers of them become complacid thinking MAC is impermeable.
My MAC locked me out of it and two externals and when I finally did get back into them Norton Anti-Virus found a "worm."  When I asked the program to find the origin, it was traced back to an email, as you said, that I opened unintentionally.  I still have two external HDs for backup and a cloud backup now.
When ClamX ran after Norton was finished, ClamX found what it called as "spyware," and it's origin was in my email also.  I tried to delete the emails after the programs (both) identified the infected files, however once deleted and the computer is restarted, they were still there because I ran the scans again.
Now since we are no longer talking about how to turn on and off the view pane in apple mail; riddle me this,  why can't the developers of these antivirus and antispyware/malware programs get together and develop ONE PRODUCT that catches 90-95% of the viruses/worms/spyware/malware ect that get onto MAC's?  Is it because they are too busy thinking they don't exist?
I still run both programs and feel protected between the two.  If Norton said it was a "worm" then I believe it was a worm and if ClamX called it "spyware" then I believe it is spyware.
I had to wipe my MAC and do a fresh install to get it working again, then I had to open one of those externals (which was very, very difficult) multiple times until finally it displayed the message "you can view, but not change the data."  I exported as much as I could to my cloud and I had to format both of those too.
I still run both programs as I feel protected between the two.  If Norton tells me it is a "worm" then I believe it is a "worm;" if ClamX tells me it is "spyware" then I believe it is "spyware."  If it happens again, which my hope is that it won't, I will be more than happy to send the infected files to you!!
Try not to "forum rage."  Support forums to post experiences and find answers, not nit-pick or claim not existance b/c you have not experienced it for yourself.

Thank you GeeD. I'm still stymied.
I have moved the Event and Project Folders to the "top-layer of the drive" as the instructions state, right alongside the System Folder, Users Folder and Applications Folders.
When I open iMovie 10.0.8, the Events and Projects Folders are empty:
When I select File/Update Projects and Events, I get an alert box that says iMovie couldn't find any:
Not knowing exactly what is meant by the "top layer" in the instructions, I moved the Events and Project folders back inside the "Movies" folder where I found them (but then not where I would call the "top" layer, but rather "iMac/Users/Home/Movies/iMovieProjects". Then I tried to "Update Projects and Events" and received the same alert: "iMovie could not find any projects or events to update."
    Then I tried to update iMovie 9.0 (iMovie '11 version 9.0 (1073)) to version 9.0.9 .
[As an aside, the nomenclature of iMovie drives me nuts. The latest version is 10.0.8, which us newer than iMovie '11.]
Back to the update of version 9.0 to 9.0.9.
Presumably because I have version 10.0.8 installed, I got this alert box:
So, I cannot update version 9.0
and I cannot "Update" the Events and Projects created in version 9.0.
