IBM T30 Speedstep problems

Heyo
I have an IBM T30 2366-85U. I cannot get it to run at full speed when using AC power. It steps down to 1.2ghz no matter what options i choose in the bios or in the power options in control panel. Running windows XP.
Anyone have any ideas how to fix this?
Thanks,
Brad

People usually have the opposite problem with these machines, that the CPU is running at full load 100% of the time...
Now, this may sound silly, but do you have the battery installed?
And to answer your question: there is no way of manually setting the clock and multiplier.
Try opening like 20 Firefox pages and see what happens...
Good luck and keep us posted.
Cheers,
George

  • IBM T30 XP USB error with Zen Micro. Does not recognize dev

I've tried everything I can think of on this board and others. Zen Micro, IBM T30 laptop, 2 usb ports on back, Windows XP. Downloaded latest everything I can find. USB does not recognize device. Error report shows "USB Root Hub (2 ports) ---> Unknown Device"
    Any help appreciated. Thanks!

Tried one last thing, just for grins...
Put the IBM into it's docking station, which has another USB on the dock (low speed, though), and voila! It worked! Go figure what's different but since it was working, I took that opportunity to blow in the new firmware, and also upgraded to ZenMicroP4S_PCFW_LB_2__02 to get away from drivers all together (and to use Napster2go, my ultimate goal through all of this!) Syncing with MP0 worked great. Even an explorer view with folders and such, so all is well.
Since everything seems to be working, I'll stick with it for now!
Can I now delete Zen Micro Media Explorer from my system? (it doesn't seem to recognize the device anyway)
    Thanks!

After downloading the drivers, have you unpacked them from the appropriate directory, should be C>Drivers>Win>BDC

Installing OS 10 on IBM T30 - Unexpected inode 173134 error run fsck(1M) comes up and I have no clue how to get past this error. I have tried removing all partitions and even bought VCOM partition commander to create a solaris partition prior to install but no luck.

  • T520 poor performance and SpeedStep problem

Hi to all the users in the forum!
I'm new to this forum and I would like to thanks for any future help that you'll give me.
After some months of using my new T520 (i7 2620m) I was really disappointed for the poor performance of this ThinkPad.
Briefly I've noticed slow responses to many programs in particular in the MS office enviroment (.ppt files) as well as on my gmail interface under firefox, and in general the Win7 environment. It sounds really strange to me, I came from a 5 years old Intel®-Centrino® (1.7Ghz) experience and the differences between the old and the new machine should be more sharp. So I've investigated to understand this behavior. Before that I've upgraded the system with the newest files.
To understend the behaviour I've used the following software (x64):
CPU-Z to evaluate the performance in terms of Core speed; Multiplier and Bus Speed
Prime95 to produce an heavy load
Intel processor ID Utility to produce a "certified" report.
The responses is always the same. The multiplier is stuck at 8X with a frequency of about 0.79Ghz and the gauge in the CPU performance of the Lenovo Power Manager” always indicating  29% (that is 0.79Ghz of the 2.7Ghz of the i7 2620M processor).  Nothing change if I switch on the turbo boost or if I made some variation in the performance profile. The only change that I can observe/listen is an increase rotation of the system fan and the consequent noise increase when the turbo boost is on. Even during the “torture-test”  of Prime95 no differences in frequency is observed.
The only way to obtain an higher frequency is to disable the speedstep technology from the BIOS setup, with the consequence to have the multiplier stuck to 24X with a frequency of 2.7Ghz…. but is not a solution!
The described behavior of this processor under Win7 is also observed with Ubuntu 11.04.
I’ve reported the problem to the technical support, and they ask me to run the “Lenovo Toolbox System” because is the only software that they can “trust”. So I did it and sent the log files. Now I’m waiting for a response and in the meantime I would like to discuss, report and share my experience to this forum.
Actually from my point of view, there is a serious problem with the i7 processor, that I can’t solve and a substitution is required. I’m disappointed because I’m using since some months a PC with reduced performance and because I spent my time to demonstrate this evidence. I hope to solve quickly this inconvenience and I’ll report to the forum any news from the technical support.
    Thanks
    Misuraka

The CPU will throttle down if the battery is removed. This is intentional for various reasons.
To extend overall battery longevity, use the provided Power Manager.
    1) Launch Power Manager
    2) Click Advanced in the top right
    3) Go to the Battery tab
    4) Click Battery Maintenance
    5) Choose Custom charge threshold
    6) Start charging from 80, stop charging at 90.
This should extend battery lifespan. Avoid overcharging it, and avoid overdepleting it. Lithium ion batteries don't last long under those circumstances.
In extended storage or when you know you will be using AC almost exclusively, set the charging threshold to 30 to 40, deplete it to 40%, then leave it there.

  • SpeedStep Problem T7300

    Hello together,
I have a two years old ThinkPad X61 with an Intel Core2 T7300 Processor which has a maximal Frequency of 2GHz.
My ThinkVantage Power Manager has following settings:
    ·         on battery the maximal Frequency is set to “low” which is about 800 Mhz.
    ·         with a power supply the maximal Frequency is set to “highest” which is 2000 Mhz.
On the battery is everything ok.
But when I connect the power supply the CPU accelerates at first 1 or 2 minutes to 2 GHz as it should be, but then goes down to 800MHz. If I fully load the CPU (e.g 5 youtube videos) it stays at 800MHz and is 100% loaded.
I have tried some settings and options in the Power Manager, but it didn’t change anything.  The only thing I could finger out is: if I reactivate my profile in the Power manager it accelerates the CPU to 2GHz, but again only for 1-2 minutes. Then the speed goes down to about 800 MHz even if the CPU is fully loaded at all this time.
I have done all windows updates and ThinkVantage updates. I have Windows XP and Windows 7 and the behavior is the same on both OSs.
The behavior of the CPU is very strange, so I cannot figure out if it is software or a hardware problem.
Maybe you could have some ideas …

  • Ibm t30 alternate number pad - keys U I O J K L

How can you disable this alternate number pad on the T30?  It's stuck on - a co-worker called me on the phone in another city, and has most regular alpha keys working, but the certain keys that make up the horizontal/vertical number pad on the keyboard is completely stuck on - how is this disabled/enabled?
Tried numerous FN commands, and absolutely no luck - seems to be only a problem when logged in - but before logging in, using the keyboard works fine.

Look at your keyboard carefully and find which key has the NumLk on it.  It will be Fn+thatkey to toggle NumLock off and on.

  • T30 wireless problem

I installed a cisco wireless miny card in my t30.I then downloaded the cisco aironet mpi350 software from the lenovo site.I installed software.this gives me the airnet client utility.the last part of the install is to load firmware .it will only load to 59%.IT gives message.error writing to flash memory. on the bottom of the load window is Your 350 series is not associated.and I canot get passed this point.the original problem is my t30 canot detect any networks

Depending on the specific T30 model, those machines only had 802.11b support. One model had a Cisco mini-pci 802.11b card. The quickest and cheapest way to get this older machine on a currently supported wireless network is to buy a 802.11g USB adapter. These are available for about $50 and under.

That's a good question. I know that there is tech support line in the Phils, but I'm not sure about the locations (I imagine you can find shops anywhere in Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao). Here is some useful info though...
Phone number for Lenovo support in the Philippines is:
    1800-1601-0033 (Local number only)
    +603 8315 6858 (DID)
They are open 8:30 AM - 5 PM your time zone.
You can also look up local service providers and business partners by going to this website:
    http://bplocator.lenovo.com/
Use the drop down menu of course to select your country.
Hope this helps you. Ingat palagi po.

  • T30 boot problem - please help

1 beep then 3 beeps then 3 beeps then 1 beep upon startup.
I can hear the machine running, but the monitor is completely black - not a single flicker to be seen.
This is my daughters laptop, used mainly for surfing the net and listening to her music. If it's fixable, I'd prefer that then going out and having to buy her a new one.
Any ideas on the beep sequence? Is it worth bringing it in to a computer repair shop?
The machine was bought used about 1 year ago, so there is no warrenty. She also told me that before this happened, it was working fine. No spills, no dropping it, etc. Just one day it wouldn't boot.
    Ideas?

    lynn893, welcome to the forum,
according to the Hardware Maintainance Manual your beep code indicates either failed memory or a failed mainboard. As T30 systems are known to have a problem with one of the memory slots I would start by removing / swapping around the memory. Instructions on how to do his can be found in the HMM.
    Good Luck

  • T400 & Windows 7 speedstep problem?

I'm running Windows 7 RTM on a T400 with an Intel P8400 (2.26GHz), and I noticed using CPU-z that the frequency on the most frugal power save mode is GHz instead of 800Mhz. I believe I have installed all of the Windows 7 beta drivers.
I believe that the P8400 should be able to run at 800Mhz, right? Any clue on what's holding it back?
On a sidenote, I checked using performance monitor that the CPU is entering C3 states, if that means anything.
    Thanks,
    Kai

  • WS-I test tool - monitor config to connect to IBM registry gives problems

    hi,
We have developed UDDI Registry provider implementing JAXR APIs. We want to test it for interoperability using WS-I test tools.
I have downloaded and run monitor and analyzer tools of WS-I. Thing is when I try to use IBM public registry (UDDI), I am not able to configure it properly in monitorConfig.xml file provided by WS-I test tools.
I am doing something like this:
    <wsi-monConfig:redirect>
    <wsi-monConfig:comment>JAXR HTTP Listner.</wsi-monConfig:comment>
    <wsi-monConfig:listenPort>8090</wsi-monConfig:listenPort>

    </wsi-monConfig:redirect>
If any one has any idea regarding the same, please guide me.

<wsi-monConfig:schemeAndHostPort>http://uddi.ibm.com</wsi-monConfig:schemeAndHostPort> should specify host and port. In your case, it is specifying the host only. Also, you need to make sure your proxy host & port are set correctly in your monitor script.

  • IBM Thnikpad T30 512M panics

After a recent system board changed on a IBM T30, my Solaris 9/10 panics when during boot up. It was working fine before the change with 512M memory, but after this change, Solaris works fine with one DIMM of 256M. When both 256M Dimms installed, Solaris would panics during boot up. I tried different DIMMs, and the result is the same. I talked to the repair depot, they claimed the system board which they replaced is exactly the same as the old one. Has anyone run into the same problem??

A bit more information on the panic, the panic string is on "segpt_badop".
