Ibook ac plug pops, on 3rd DC In board...

I have a G3 500 Mhz machine that I bought on ebay (I have usually had good luck on eBay, if you know what to look for). Seller said that the machine was fine, except the adapter would not charge the battery or run the machine. Sounds like a classic DC board problem, correct? The machine runs great on battery ( I have a second ibook that charges the battery ). So I replaced the DC board. The 2nd one didn't work. so I tried a third DC board,- nope, does not work, and the receptical on the ibook itself is starting to "pop" and make electircal noises. (Yes, I know that is dangerous.) I have tried 3 different DC boards and three different Apple AC adapters.
So... am I just unlucky with DC boards, or could there be something wrong with the logic board itself, that is screwing up the power? Or is there another variable between the logic board and the dc board? I tried resetting the PMU also. I thought if the machine ran fine on battery, the logic board was supposed to be ok... anyone ever have a similar problem?
And I don't want to spend the $$$ to have some Apple Genius do a diag one it (Are they really called "Apple Geniuses", or is everyone just being sarcastic? Can't imagine a genius working in a computer store.) Probably not worth it... I figure it must be at least $50 just to have them crack the case, correct? Guess I will have to sell it as a parts machine on eBay. It's a nice little machine for Ubuntu too. Thanks for any help!
500 Mhz   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

Each time you change the DC-in board, you need to reset the PMU. I would say you are probably having bad luck with the boards, yes.
Yes, they're really called "Geniuses." They don't have to rate "genius" on an IQ test to get that designation from Apple, though.
I don't know what an Apple Store would charge to have an initial look at the problem. AppleCare charges $49 just to talk to you about it.
DT & T Computer Services does free diagnostics. You would have to pay shipping to and from Fremont, California.

  • Audio jack - plug pops out (physically)

    Hi
Macbook pro with a tenuous audio jack - headphones or other plugs pop out about an 1/16 of an inch, disconnecting. I can push it back in, and sometimes it will stay, but its not dependable.
Is this just a weak spot of this machine or is this a broken jack that needs replacing? Can I fix it somehow?
    Thanks in advance!

If this is happening with several different plugs, the port has a problem. Take the machine in for service under your warranty, assuming it's still in effect.

  • US IBook AC plug adapter into European MacBook power adapter?

    Hello everybody,
I have a MacBook white, bought in France, and I would like to use it in the US. Some years ago I bought a power adapter for my IBook G3 in the US, so I kept the AC plug adapter. Do you think it is safe to use the old AC plug adapter with the new power adapter? It looks just like the plugs shown in the Apple World Travel Adapter Kit, but I prefer to be sure. I just don’t want to burn my Mac!
    Hoping someone could help…

Perfectly fine. It's a standard connector that Apple hasn't changed in years. It's an extremely simple passive connection with no electronics. I've been freely swapping the adapter plugs from iBook, MacBook, and iPod power adapters.

  • Epub fixed layout - iBooks library/nav pop up blocker

    HI,
is it possible to program an ibook in export where it disables library/nav pop up as it is very annoying when it pops up every time you use interactivity in epub3
ant tips on how to get round this?
    thanks
    James

Ah ok. I'm talking about when the til and bottom bars come up allowing you to click back to the library and across bottom see all the pages across the bottom to navigate to - in just finding that as I'm clicking on buttons it often brings this up which is annoying and eats into the design of my pages

  • CoreAudio: Plug-in "insert 3rd party plug in names here" Not Available

Hey guys, hoping you can help me with this one... been trying to read up on it a little and I've tried a couple of the suggestions that were made to no avail, the problem still is there.
Basically, Logic isn't recognizing any of my 3rd party plugs that were working fine for a few months until a couple days ago. TC Powercore PCI, NI Kore 4, Arturia Mini Moog V, Sonalksis TBK's and a couple others are all not being recognized... They all were fine, now Logic won't recognize them.
I ditched my Logic Pref's, re-installed all my plug's, repaired permissions... yet still, I get the "not available" story. If you guys can possibly help me out, I'd greatly appreciate it.
    Thanks,

    G4 Dual 1.25   Mac OS X (10.4.10)   2 Gigs Ram / Logic Pro 7.2.3

    Hi,
A couple of days ago... sounds like you did an Os update, to 10.4.10
Which includes the 10.4.9 "fixes", which include a NEW and IMPROVED Logic Plug-In manager thingy.
Which is why your Plug-Ins are not compatible anymore...so...
Do a search in this very forum, and find how to fix the 10.4.9 issue.
Hint: you'll have to re-download the OSX update manually, and re-install that.
You'll spend time on this, but come out the wiser... ie don't let Apple's Auto-Update update anything, until you know for a fat it will not ruin your Logic experience.
Welcome to the brave new world of still doing things manually.
    Cheers

  • Ibook backlight plug receptor

While taking apart ibook to replace harddrive on grapghite 466 , I ran into trouble. In taking out the backlight cable, the whole plastic receptor (little white plasatic at J4) on the motherboard came off as well. This is a little part (1/4 x 1/8inch). I can't tell if it was soldered on or just slips on the motheboard since tiny bits of plastic broke off. Can someone tell me if/how this can be repaired. Can I get one from another motherboard and replace, or do I need a new motherboard (tell me no, please). Maybe it can be 'glued' back on, anyone tell me what to do would be appreciated. Next time I will be sure to hold down when pulling plug out...thanks.

Thanks for the email Rick -
From what I can figure out you not only pulled the cable but the entire plastic housing that it connected to - therefore leaving the connectors on the motherboard exposed and at the same time shattering the plastic housing. Would that be the gist of it??
The exposed prongs/connectors on the motherboard need to be connected to your cable - will that plastic tab on your cable fit over the exposed section while still maintaining a connection? If it does you might get away with gluing the cables plastic tab directly to the motherboard ...never to be removed again? This would assume of course that the connection was fine and the component you're attaching also works.
You could also remove the plastic tab from the cable and solder the wires directly to the exposed motherboard area. This would be tricky of course but not entirely impossible.
Another option would be to get a new motherboard. That could be hit and miss.
Is it possible for you to glue that busted connector back together and then glue it to the motherboard ...then allowing you to fasten the cable's plastic tab?
That's it for my options. Good luck ...and quit being so aggressive when you're yanking things from logic boards

  • Plug-in or 3rd party for Chroma keying with DV footage

We shoot Betacam SP, captured to DV with a DSR-45P DV/DVCAM deck.
From what I learn on the web, green is preferred if you edit on DV, due to the color sampling. (4:1:1 for PAL?).
However, it also depends on what background you have. Use green if you are in the forest, use blue if you are at the beach. Sort of.
The built-in chroma keying in FCP is OK, but not more than that. What do you recommend using?
I've found the dVMatte from www.dvgarage.com - is it good?

Just for DV media, the AdvantEdge plug-in from Ultimatte has a preset. It has a resampling method for 4:1:1 (or 4:2:0 if PAL) media like DV.
    Take a look:

Hmmm don't know. There used to be an option in earlier versions to use the same layout for all playlists but it seems to have vanished.
If I delete my Music Folder will all playlists be deleted. I ask that as iTunes has decided to create tons of duplicates and assign artists to them I've never even heard of.
If you delete the Music folder you will delete all your music and your iTunes library with all it's playlists to boot.
In iTunes all the playlists are stored internally in the *iTunes Library.itl* file. Assuming you accepted the default installation options you will have an iTunes folder inside the main Windows Music folder. If you've let iTunes *Keep iTunes Media folder organised*, then it will have reorganised music into folders on the lines of "Artist\Album\## Track" where artist is either the Artist or, if present, the Album Artist. Compilation albums that you previously had orgainsed into their own folders may have been spread into multiple folders each holding one or two tracks. Likewise an album with the odd guest artist will be split among folders for each combination of artists.
Without knowing what specific issues are driving you to distraction it's hard to know what else I can tell you at this point, but one of the main problems people have when starting out with iTunes is simply pursuading it to see some albums as a single entity. If you run into this issue take a look at my previous post on Grouping Tracks Into Albums. Otherwise post back here describing your problems in more detail and we'll try to help...

  • My iBook will not do anything just give me a pop up saying your Mac os x start up disk has no more space available for application memory

Having a problem with my iBook keeping getting pop up saying.  Your Mac os x start up disk has no more space available for application memory? How do I correct this until this is fixed I can not use my iBook.      Please help also will need step by step help as I have no idea what I am doing.
    God bless.   Thank you

    Hello,
Using the Mac OS X disk you have for your iBook, incert and hold down 'C' during boot.
When it loads up the menu, click utilities and then Disk Utility. (Menu at the top)
In Disk Utility select your macintosh hard drive from the  left.
In the right menu, select disk repair. Once the disk repair has finished, restart your iBook without the dsk in the drive.
It should loads into Mac OS normally.
    Best of luck

  • Logic Pro 9.1.1 AU third-party plug-ins ongoing issue for many

Where is the Logic development team on this? Nearly all third-party AU plug-ins produce random pops and clicks at the beginning of playback and on occasion randomly during playback but before audio regions in tracks with these plug-ins installed. These pops and clicks are even visible in the track's meter. http://www.gearslutz.com/board/music-computers/482381-logic-3rd-party-plugs-pop- click-nightmare-how-does-rest-world-do.html How many people need to complain? Is Logic Pro considered production software?

I can't imagine a more textbook and apple-friendly environment than what I have. 32-bit is not the problem. I don't believe logic runs at 64 until you're on os 10.6 and I'm still on 10.5.8. My entire rig is what you'd see in an apple store logic demo. I've tried nearly everything:
    1) All standard optimization tips including but not limited to no date/time updates, no airport/wi-fi, no bluetooth
    2) I have a ultra high-quality external fw drive by G-drive
    3) Standard issue ensemble with updated firmware
    4) Moving AU component files from system library to user library
If you look at the number of people commenting on the GS thread as well as other forums – the problem is common and needs to be fixed. I'm not the only logic user plagued by this issue:
    http://www.logicprohelp.com/viewtopic.php?t=43306
    http://www.logicprohelp.com/viewtopic.php?t=50030
I really believe it has something to do with how many third-party plug-ins handle AU's reset or initialize callbacks; somewhere in between. This bug is clearly affecting many users and I'm coming close to starting a petition and devoting some serious time to making a big dorky stink about it on youtube.
Either the AU spec needs to be updated to clarify some tricks (or hacks) specific to Logic's on-demand DSP usage or the logic team needs to publish a notice to all "Logic" AU developers. Optionally, if Logic had a preference to turn OFF on-demand AU DSP (so that plug-ins are always-on like in every other DAW or...ugh...outboard gear). Logic's on-demand AU DSP handling is outdated considering the processing power available in ANY apple computer made within the last 3 years. My CPU meter in Logic barely even lights up. On-demand DSP is overkill and antiquated and the least Logic can do is provide production or mission-critical users the ability to opt-out if they have the CPU power to do so.
Having said all that; I hope I'm wrong about something and can come back here to eat my words and feel very embarrassed about my rant. I'm going to keep digging for solutions – hopefully, I'll find out the secret to whatever it is the few of you are doing to keep your third-party AU plugs quiet before an audio region starts.
Also; Scott at Stillwell Audio has graciously begun trying to track down this very issue and is one of the few DSPers who has taken interest in helping Logic folk.

  • Distortion when connecting iBook to Sony Projector

    I have an iBook G4, 1Ghz, 10.4.11, 1.25GB RAM, Keynote '08
When I connect the iBook to any TV using composite, S-video, or 15-pin VGA I get a crystal clear picture. But when I use it at work with a Sony VPL-CX86 projector the picture is distorted on the screen. There is a slight distortion (scratch marks) using the 15-pin connection, and a terrible distortion (flowing lines of "noise") using composite and s-video.
I cant imagine that there is something wrong with the iBook since it works fine when connected to a TV, but Im wondering if there is? Or is there something I can do with the projector to fix the picture?
    Thanks for any input!
    Message was edited by: CPeltz

OK... problem solved! But new questions arise.
I found that when my iBook was plugged in to the AC adapter, it created "noise" on the projector picture. But when I connect the iBook to the projector and use battery power, the picture is crystal clear. Weird, but now I know that something in the power supply causes the picture to distort... Now I just charge up the iBook before I need to use it.

  • What to do with an old, but functioning iBook?

I've searched in this area for a similar question, but with no joy, so I'd like to pose it... because I really do like this computer and want to use it productively.
I have an older iBook: 600mhz PowerPC G3 with 384mb RAM and a 18 gig HD (wow!). It is running OS X 10.3.7. I have not used the machine for quite some time... but it works just fine. I do have an iMac 21 inch screen desktop and a windows based desktop machine, for work.
What in the heck do I use the iBook for?
It's HD is limited, although I could install a larger HD.
It has no airport card... and my understanding (perhaps, incorrectly) is
that USB based wireless devices do not work so well with the version
    of the iBook and OS.
My thinking was that is could serve as a music server: My 50 gig iTunes directory on the iMac has been copied to external HD's... one of which I could connect to the iBook. Plug it into my receiverand we are ready to go.
It would be nice to use it as a notebook computer around the house, but without the wireless, it makes it less functional.
I'd be interested in any and all suggestions. It's a terrific little computer and runs like a charm, well, slow compared to today's speed demons, but it gets you where you want to go.
    Many thanks.
    LS

It would be nice to use it as a notebook computer around the house, but without the wireless, it makes it less functional.
It wouldn't cost a lot to put an original AirPort Card in it. If it has the ancient battery that came with it, you may need to move the adapter around with it and keep it plugged in most of the time, though (or buy a new battery).
