IBook and iPod connection through Firewire

I looked for a thread on this all over, but couldn't find one, so I'll just post and see what comes out of it. Maybe someone has some idea what is wrong.
I'll try to connect my iPod to my iBook with the Firewire cable that came with it. It won't connect to my iBook. The iPod will charge, but not show up on the desktop or in iTunes. Through USB it's just fine. I know I could just use USB and be fine with it, but my iPod doesn't charge through USB since it's a Third Generation iPod. Any ideas why this is happening would be much appreciated.

I did try connecting my iPod with another Firewire cable. It still didn't work. I also have a Pocketdrive that didn't connect to my computer through Firewire. I do, however, have an external Firewire HD that has it's own power source that connected without any problems.
I found an article at Macfixit that said to reinstall 10.4.3 with the combo updater and then repair permissions. I just tried it and it didn't do any good.

  • Logging inbound and outbound connections through my Linksys router

    Hi There,
I have a  Linksys wireless router (WRT54G series) that I use to connect to the internet with my cable modem. I would like to be able to configure my home network to log inbound and outbound connections through my router.
My router, which I bought brand new a couple of years ago, provides some very basic logging through its administration interface.  I can view a current log of very recent (within the past couple of minutes) inbound and outbound connections/traffic.  However, I would like to be able to configure my network to log all inbound and outbound traffic for at least 1 or 2 days and have this log saved somewhere so I can retrieve and review it at a more convenient time.  I haven't been able to figure out how to do this with my current Linksys router and would like some help in configuring my system.
Is it possible for me to configure (perhaps with a firmware upgrade or even by replacing my older Linksys router with a newer one) my router to continuously log a day or more's worth of inbound and outbound connections?  If this is possible, what changes do I need to implement?  Does Linksys offer a wireless router that has more sophisticated logging capabilities?  What is the longest log period that I can create with a Linksys router?
If it's not possible to create such a log with my router, then what other components would I need to log this information?  I've thought about setting up a Linux server with two network cards installed to act as a gateway between my router and cable modem which will log traffic.  Would this be a good strategy to implement logging?
    Thanks in advance.

well...the router's in-built log will only provide basic information about the incoming/outgoing log . So, it will be a good idea to install a separate log viewer .....

  • Ihave computer and ipod connected but they will not sync. How do I get them to sync?

I have my computer and ipod connected but they will not sync. How do I get them to sync.?  I have done the previous action before but now I have a new ipod because my other ipod was stolen.

Actually this happened to me today and although it would not let me play the file it allowed me to use that same file i had exported from iphotos but could not play and then it allowed me to open it in imovie (you can go to import and then get it from the desktop or wherever) although I made a couple of changes to it the main thing is once you drag it into the space to begin a new project you can then right click and select open in finder and that file actually plays......if its cause i made some changes to it i.e trimmed it slightly then its worth doing so.

  • Get an old VHS home movie over to iBook and iPod ?

i have an old VHS home made movie i like to get in to my iBook and so over to the iPod.
is there a program to do that?
anyone here who have done that before?

Is there a program to do that?
While software is required for the actual "capture" of the video data, this problem primarily requires a hardware solution. To start, you need some sort of an analog-to-digital converter. This can be a dedicated device or something as simple as a digital handicam you may already have laying around your house. (You have to check owner's manual to see if such an option is available on your particular model.) Dedicated devices tend to come in two output formats -- compressed DV and MPEG. Connectability is usually via FireWire for DV and USB for MPEG. If you plan to edit the material, the DV format is generally preferable. Capture software will depend on the format of the converted output. iMovie, FCX, and FCP will handle DV. If you don't already have one of these applications, then Vidi (free) is a good alternative. USB devices usually come with their own proprietary capture software and may or may not include compatible MPEG editing software.
    Hope this helps.

  • Recieve and Share Connection through airport

    hello,
I staying at a very big house, and the wifi here does not extend to my room. We have 2 iBook G4's and I was wondering if there is a way to recieve the connection on one iBook, and with the same one broadcast it through its airport card. Whenever I try to share the connection it wont let me be connected to the internet. any suggestions of programs or tips that will help me do this?
    Thanks
    Zack

I stand by what I said: "A laptop with a wired connection can share the Internet through it's wireless card or vice versa." That means they can both:
    1. connect wirelessly to the internet via Airport
    base station
    2. connect via ethernet to other computers on a LAN
and share that airport based internet connection with
    the other computers ?
I have not tried to do what you are suggesting but it should work according to this:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107484
I have DSL but am considering dumping it as
sharing an airport connection is far cheaper.
You still need an ISP so if not DSL what would the Airport share?
it is possible to have both airport and
ethernet active as far as that goes.
They can both be active but unless you enable Internet Sharing from Airport to Ethernet in the Sharing System Preference it won't happen.
    Office Mac A (static IP)
Why use static IPs? If they can't find a DHCP server they will default to being on the same subnet (169.254.x.x). Internet Sharing assumes the clients will be using DHCP.

  • Triggering and HP3458A connected through GPIB.

I have two HP3458A connected through GPIB. As them to start simultaneously during one moment of time (for synchronous work)? Whether it is possible to make it with the help TRIGGER?

    Hi,
There are two standard commands you can use with IEE 488.2 compliant devices. The GET (group execute trigger) multiline message, which is defined in IEEE 488.1. And the *TRG command defined in the IEEE 488.2, which specifies the same behavior as the GET command.
In both cases you set both instruments as listeners and send the command. Both devices are triggered. There will be delay between the devices caused by the delay in the GPIB bus.
Notice that the GET command is sent in controller mode (ATN line asserted). For this command you would send byte 0x08 using ibcmd. *TRG, on the other hand, is sent as data. You would send the string "*TRG" using ibwrt.

  • Sharing Internet Connection through Firewire.

My Network was just re-done and I lost y configuration to Share my iMac's Airport Connection to my iBook via Firewire.
On the iMac I have internet sharing on and have the Firewire port created and at the top of the list. However on the iBook I still can't access the Net.

If your firewall is up on the iMac, open ports 80 and 443 and see if that helps.

  • Nikon D90 and ipad connection through USB

i can't get the nikon d90 to speak to my ipad through the camera connection kit.
-hardware works, i can connect my phone through the jack
-i've had luck with the SD card connector in the past, but it's sadly been misplaced
-my USB to USB mini cable works to power my ihome speaker
-when the cable is connected to both the ipad and the camera the playback menu on the camera greys out.
-i've gone through the standard connect/reboot/wait thirty seconds troubleshooting with no luck.
sorry for the point form, this is the third time I've posted this question and the website keeps deleting my text. ;)
I am overseas and really want to get my photos onto my ipad for posting.  i'm wondering if i'm making a really stupid error, and hoping that I am before I go out and buy a new camera connection for the SD reader, or replace the cable.
    Thanks everyone!

    Thanks for responding so quickly!
Unfortunately I'm overseas so I can't try it out on my computer. (part of what's really frustrating is that I should have tried it out before I left home)
The camera recognizes that it's connected to something, in that the menu greys out whenever it is connected to the ipad, but that's all that I can see so far.

  • Options for aux and ipod connection to a 2006 Buick Rendezvous

Hello and thanks in advance for your help.
I have a 2006 Rendezvous that I would like hardwired into the factory radio.  It has a 6 disc changer but no Monsoon enhanced system.  What options do I have?  Thanks!

    Hi Pbober,
If you want to hardwire your ipod into your car, I'd really recommend stopping at your nearest Best Buy and talking to the install bay techs. I think there are a couple of options on where to put the aux connection and I'd hate to steer you in the wrong direction. Talking to the tech will be the best route to take.
    Thank you,

  • My ipod is not syncing, even though both the program and ipod go through the motions of doing so.

My ipod won't sync, even though it and the program seem to go through the motions of doing so.  Since the problem began, I've updated the software and reset the ipod.  Now I'm at a loss.

Check to make sure that the option you want is still set by looking on the Device/Music pane, where you can chhoose either the option highlighted in the picture below, or Sync Entire Music Library.

Could you help me to solve my problem?
    Kings regards

    Hi
Did you try to refresh the USB port drivers??
    You should try this;
    - Disconnect all USB devices from the USB ports.
    - Access the device manager and remove all USB Root Hub and all USB Host controllers.
    - Reboot the notebook
After this procedure the Windows OS should recognize and should install the USB ports again. After new reboot you should connect the single USB devices and should check if they will run correctly!

  • SAP and TAS Connection through Web Services

    HI Experts,
we are planning to Integrate SAp and another TAS system using web services (no XI/PI). Please tell me if this way is correct.
XML format of iDoc will be the data format, web service technology will be used to exchange data between SAP and TAS.
To Transfer data to TAS, the client application running on SAP server will try to connect to the web service running on TAS server. Once connection is established, idoc data will be sent to TAS, then the connection will be closed.

    Hello,
What will be you Language used for Connection.
One method i may suggest is use ABAP FTP.
With this push the files to a file sever location and read it using webservice.
like wise let webservice generate a file and place a file in location and let ABAP prog pick the file.
this way you can maintain a status flag for the number of records, thus having a staging area.
    regards,
    Abhishek

  • Bluetooth and iPod connections in car

I have an Acura TSX, which I did pair with an iPhone at the store with no problems. My question is, how does it work with the auxilary input? Will the car stereo play the iPod, if the iPhone is paired with the car? and will the audio stop when a call comes in as the radio or a CD does?
    thanks!!
