Ibook Author can't preview message

Hi,
I have almost finished my book in iBook Author. Today I added short titles to the videos. I've got 50 videos throughout the book. But when I started to Preview the book on iPad IBook Author says it Can't preview. it loaded perfectly fine on iPad till today. This is a screenshot.
After I added the video titles my file jumped up from 170Mb to 225Mb. I know the file is huge but how 50 short lines can expand it to 55 MB.
May the file size be the reason that it doesn't upload the book to iPad? I uploaded for the test the previous versions and it works fine, but not the new file.
Does IBA have a file size limitation to upload it to iPad?
Any ideas?

Issue resolved.
I think it's a file size issue. I managed to reduce the file back to 170 MB and it loads fine now. But the reason of file expansion to 50 MB was that I applied the character style for video labels to make it ALL CAPS via Widget tool. This simple step added 50MB to the file.

Do you know which MacBook Pro you have?
The thing is, you have OS 10.6.8, but you need at least 10.7.4 - The latest version is 10.8.2. You can go to the App Store and ugrade to 10.8 - It's called Mountain Lion and then iBooks Author should install fine.

Im previewing my ibook on my ipad and also from ibook on my mac yet it create a message "can't preview" also, when im exporting my ibook it create a message "Your book couldn’t be exported. Verify that your destination disk isn’t full and that you have permission to write to it, then try again." yeat i have more than 120 gb available on my mac? please help me.

Are you the only user on your computer? Is your computer part of a network?
Can you advise which template is used and if you have made any changes, also do you know the file size of your book?

Can't preview messages on 8220 (flip). Setting? Help?

I can't preview emails (etc) on the external display of my blackberry flip (8220)
The little envelope icon shows up but I can't preview the message from the outside.
The only way I can check it is to open the phone. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

No data will be lost when doing the following: pull the battery while the device is ON. Replace after a minute, Let the device reboot 1-3 min, see if the problem is fixed, Thanks

HT5116 iBooks Author: Can You Co-Author on Multiple Machines?

I am trying to have 20 students contribute chapters to an anthology of folk tales...not finding a way to export/import iBookAuthor chapters or pages from one machine to another. Is this possible? I appreciate any info. Thanks.

Very simple, discuss the needs of teh book and ask each to create a chapter and allocate who does Chapter 1...and repeat for each chapter.

Very easy - each student and yourself needs to download and install teh free app "Dropbox" there are others - this is the best IMHO - each student then uploads their chapter to Dropbox. The other and maybe easier way if everytbody is meeting in a "classroom" is the inevitable USB!
One ( or more ) person is designated as editor and pulls down the chapters from drop box using the links or public folder access. Once gathered on one machine, thay are assembled in iBooks Author.
How to create the book?
The first essential is to decide which template to use. Will it be a standard freebie or will it be editted and customised to your own design.
Once the template is completed - it is saved as a template and save again as template "yourname1"
Now you have two copies on standby. open as an iBooks Author from the template and save as ( whatever your books is to be named). Each student then gets a copy of that file... by same process of using Dropbox or USB
The editor ends up with 20 files and if each uses its designated chapter number....
Have all your 20 chapters available and simply copy and paste into the book tree on the left.
After the first past- delete the original chapter 1 - you paste becomes Chapter one - now repeat the process.
Its quite easy really. I suggest you create a few chapters in a Test book and then open another different template as test 2 and start copying and pasting chapters to get the hang of it.
The book as a whole now needs editting if you intend to have a glossary and maybe tweek or correct anything in the other chapters.

IBooks Author can't open .iba file, iBooks Author can't open .iba file

The iBook I've been working on won't open anymore. It is stuck on opening with the blue line at 100% in progress. Force quitting, restarting, shutting down have had no effect. Any advice on getting this file to open again? I'd hate to lose all my work on this book. A preview copy still resides on my iPad but the .iba file just won't open.

Do you know how to reinstall iBA?
The ~ as part of the name indicates a version...part of Lion's versioning feature. Those used to be hidden before 10.7.3 - now it seems to be a bug that you can see them.

IBooks author: Can't open the file because "index.xml" is missing, please help!,

A project that I was working on yesterday and I didn't close it, today when I wanted to work on it and opened a new page there was a huge X on the page so I decided to quit ibooks then reopen it, saved all my changes first of course, but then when I tried opening it literally 10 seconds later it says the index.xml file is missing, this is my technology project due tomorrow please help!

This or a simmilar problems arose just after the last iBA update. There is a very long thread dealing with this.
I had a similar problems and nothing cured it until I contacted support and they gave me a link to upload to their server, they repaired my file and I downloaded it.
It actually took from start to finish about 2 weeks.
I "huge X" on any page usually indicates an image or similar content is missing.
The usual suggestions are to close everything down and do a re-boot.
I suggest a search of this forum for the thread may be an idea. Try this

If you make a copy of your book file and change .iba to .zip, you can open the file and check if the index page really is missing.

Bookmarking iBook Author – can you bookmark chapter/section heads?

I'm working on a book that has list of Key Terms at the back of it, with multiple references to various Chapters, Sections, and lines. However, I can only seem to select words in the main body of the text to bookmark. If I try to select a section or chpter heading, the option is greyed out. To try a work around, I created a textbox with the same wording as the section head, and placed it over the top of it, thinking that I could bookmark that text, then make it transparent – but no, I couldn't bookmark any text at all that wasn't part of the main body of the text of the book.
Any ideas?

So I have a cookbook I purchased on ibooks. Random House tells me the bookmark formatting is an ibooks developer issue.
When I book mark a recipe it book marks Breakfast, lunch, dinner or snack NOT the name of the recipe. needless to say having 10 bookmarks that say breakfast doesn't work for me.
I know not part of this stream but thought you might have an idea besides renaming bookmarks, which I assume I have to do on the ibooks on my air not through the ibook?
Sheesh have not had this developer publisher issue with other books.

HT1146 can't preview messages at bottom of mail viewer before opening message

for some reason, the message preview box at the bottom portion of Mail is not working anymore so I have to open each message to read them instead of being able to glance at each one through the preview box. what to do to restore preview box?

IBooks Author - can't edit text on customized template

I've created a template and saved it to My Templates. However, when I select a layout (a chapter or section) and place it into my book, I can't edit the text. Where am I going wrong?

I tried the above but still can't edit text.
I'm inserting a page and then changing it to 2 Column. It is linked to the first page. If the first page has enough text, it overflows into the new page and I can edit it.
However, I want the new page to be stand alone. So I remove the link to the first page. The text disappears. When I double click into either column, I can't add any text to this page. I have to add a text box into the column, which of course isn't going to overflow into column 2.
The strange thing is that I have another page a little further up that is also 2 Column. It is not linked to the first page but I can type text into it. This text will overflow from column 1 into column 2.
Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

Can you use iBooks Author to create for Newsstand

Yes, you'd need to not only pay the annual USD$99 fee, you'd need to either have or develop the necessary skils....it's not what I would call a trivial effort, tho, so be prepared for a steep learning curve.
The term 'app' is a general term for iOS applications, which can take many forms. An app that specifically targets Newsstand on your device would be configured by a dev to tell iOS about itself, etc. so that it works as intended. In general terms, the work to get it into the store is the same as any other app, but again, it won't reside on the homescreen on it's own...it will be found inside Newsstand the app.

CAN the TOC in iBooks Author be customized?

My book for iBooks is ready to go. The chapter labeling I did is different than what I think iBook Author can handle. I believe it is a built in limitation of the software. I need someone to confirm this, or know of a work around.

I believe it depends on the book. I believe If its locked landscape/portrait book, the TOC only includes a sections/chapters. If its a landscape and portrait book, you can add paragraph styles to the TOC, such as Heading 1, Heading 2 etc.

Can I turn my ibook that I created in ibook Author into an App? or only ebook?

When I create a book in iBook Author, can also turn it into an App for the App store or only an ebook to be sold in ibook?

iBooks are a hybrid between an E-book and an app, in my opinion, especially if you use a lot of clever HTML widgets. If you have a publication with chapters and sections that users read sequentially or refer to it as a guide, you can create an ibook. Otherwise, your project falls in the app category. Just a quick rule of thumb for me when I'm presented with an iOS project.

Hi to everyone,
I have a problem with an interactive image in iBooks Author. i've added the image in .jpg format and all the interactive "buttons" with own interactivity zoom for each one. When I test it on the working area, it works correctly even it's quite slow, but once I preview it on mac book pro or ipad, it doesn't work as shown in the working area. when i click on bottom to see the details, it becomes white. Who can help me?

What are the Handbrake settings to import to iBooks Author?

Hi. I have a really neat DVD a friend of mine made for me. I can copy the .VOB's to my drive, but then I'm fade with the problem of which settings to use in Handbrake to get a file which 1) iMovie can use 2) iBooks Author can use.
Does anyone have any pointers? This would greatly assist me in putting together a book.

I'm trying to convert some old Internet Archive videos for use in an ibook (see this thread for the full story - https://discussions.apple.com/message/18705771#18705771 ) I want to keep file size of the book manageable.
I was interested in your Handbrake + Subler approach and tried it. Following the steps above.
But it seems that the videos out of Handbrake are already coming into Subler as Main @ 3.1 (see screen shot of imported video) And I never get the option to export - its grayed out.
I'm an instructional design guy - not a video guy. Your suggestions will be greatly appreciated ... especially in laymen's terms.
