IBook Battery Exchange

Hi my serial number on my iBook battery is:
6C5345 VLS9YD
Can someone help me with regards to the Apple Battery Exchange, does my battery need to be replaced? I'm a bit confused

Hi Luka,
According to:
https://support.apple.com/ibook_powerbook/batteryexchange/
your battery is not subject to the recall. Although the first few numbers of your battery serial, i.e. 6C5345, fall within the range "6C519 - 6C552"; your letters, i.e. VLS9YD don't fall within "ending with S9WA, S9WC or S9WD".
Take care,
Adrian

    Hi,
I had to wait a while for my battery too. I ordered on the 24th December, it arrived on the 14th January. A little longer than Apple advised in the email, I guess delays because of Christmas.
If my delivery is anything to go by you should get yours pretty soon.

  • Battery exchange program : thanks for the iMac motherboard!

    Hi!
I had problems with my battery.
Its serial number made me able to use the battery exchange program.
Thanks to UPS, after lots of difficulties, I received my parcel. How big it was!
I understood fast why it was so big: it was a iMac G5 motherboard. I don't need it. I need a battery.
What I wonder is: who do I need to contact, and how? (I'm French).
    Thx in advance!

  • Ibooks battery  power from 22 % to 0%

    hi all ,
I was looking for this issue if any one has faced it but can't find any. I had an year old Ibook g4 and it was working fine untill some day it was low in battery.
I saw it at a 33 % level at first and within seconds it responded that battery using system safe power or something like that( i dont remember that exactly).
And same happened it today when the power was at 22 % it dropped to zero level in no time .. I have no idea why this happened. My warranty just got over so i am clue less to find any help from them...
    Any help would be great.

If you checked to see whether or not your computer's battery was among
those specified serial numbered ones in that Apple listed in their Recall
page, and it was not; perhaps you need to see in System Profiler >
Power in the computer, what the battery cycle count and amp hour life
and other battery-related readouts are in there.
When your computer went to sleep after the menubar battery gauge went
to Zero, did you immediately plug in the power adapter and give the battery
a 6 hour or maybe 8 hour charge; at least until the amber/orange indicator
light on the charging wire had turned green, then wait maybe another half
hour before disconnecting the charger and starting the computer? Could
    be you need to run the battery to zero again and then let it go to sleep;
and yet again reattach the power adapter and just let it charge; maybe
even 12 hours to overnight that time, to be sure it really is charged as
full as it will reasonably get. Then look into the System Profiler> Power
section to see what the battery says for original battery Amp/Hr (that'd
be the new capacity) compared to the second amp hour listing shown,
which would be for the battery as it then appears to the System.
A low battery amp hour listing indicate (after all that) the battery may be
going bad. But it may be only the calibration of the battery was needed
and the charge memory and indicator were needing a reset & recharge.
But if your computer's battery is among those recalled, you should stop
using the battery as soon as possible and follow the instructions in the
battery recall information and order page. They say to remove a recalled
battery and run the computer from the AC power adapter until a new
battery arrives. There are additional instructions with replacement batteries.

  • Is battery exchange is possible?

    I just found this page,
    https://support.apple.com/ibook_powerbook/batteryexchange/main?id=qp
after using ibook G4 for many years with heat problem.
I though the heat is normal until today. After i've read the website and check my ibook's battery. Voila! the serial and the model is exactly explain on that website. I even try to put my ibook serial and battery serial on that page and it show that
"This battery qualifies for the Battery Exchange Program."
But that page is about 5 years old already. Can i claim it now?
    please help...

    Update:
Just come back from iStudio. Seems it is my fault. I accidentally broke the locking edge of Battery long time ago because I do often remove and put battery back into the ibook because of the heat. So they won't allow me to claim the battery exchange program. Even the part number is correct. -.-' so disappoint.
Anyway, i will put it back and use it until it explodes or on fire. Don't worry, whenever it is on fire I will show the picture of it. (Even it quite scary.) And hope they will do something.
Why don't they think the heat cause the battery's cover become crispy and easily broke?..... The problem is inside not the cover.

  • IBook battery heating up - is this normal?

I just upgraded to an iBook from a Pismo a few days ago, and I've been taking it for a test ride.
I've found that the iBook battery seems to heat up very fast: after about 30 minutes to 1 hour, it gets quite hot on the top. I know the bottom is supposed to be hot (it seems all Mac portables have hot bottoms) but is the heat from the top something to worry about?
Strangely, my 6-year-old Pismo doesn't seem to put out as much heat as my iBook, although that might just be the casing design.

Its not normal, my battery is barley even warm.

  • Satellite A100-570: Battery exchange program utility doesn't load page

I've read in the latest issue of computeractive that some notebook batteries malfunctions and mine was one of those mentioned.
I downloaded the piece of software from Toshiba website to check the battery and indeed it told me my battery was affected. I wanted to put in an exchange application to which I clicked yes.
However, when the page loads up it is unknown. I have a A100-570 and am quite concerned about this matter but trying to get any info from Toshiba is quite difficult by email.
    Can anybody help?

    Hi
I found on the Toshiba European page a detailed description how to use this tool.
You can find this document here:
http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com -> Support & Download -> Product Updates -> Product Update: Toshiba Voluntary Battery Exchange program
In the section Battery Pack identification you will find a link to the Battery Pack Identification manual and to the Toshiba support bulletin document about Battery Pack Voluntary Replacement Program.
Furthermore I would recommend reinstalling this tool and please check the internet option like Privacy and security in the Internet explorer.

  • Very frustrated with the battery exchange program

I'm very frustrated with the battery exchange program. I signed up online, double checked all my information, and submitted. No where on the page did it say that a signature would be required upon delivery. I work during the day, so I'm not home to receive shipments (any package I do receive is just left in the lobby, and it's always been fine--I live in a secure building).
DHL is refusing to leave the package at the door. Apple refuses to tell DHL that it's ok to redirect the package to my place of employment. My only option, it seems, is to spend almost two hours of my time driving to the DHL location and back (the pickup location isn't even in the same county I live in).
If anyone has any better ideas, I would love to hear it.
    Thanks,
    Andrea

If your battery was stolen after it was delivered, I'd bet you'd really get upset. If DHL is anything like UPS, you can sign the receipt telling them to leave the package. Pretty simple.

  • Battery Exchange Program

I've had an issue that I've seen come up a lot in the forums. After the 3.2 update, my battery began to have issues. At full charge, if unplugged, it shuts off without warning as if the battery wasn't connected. I've done research and found out about the battery exchange program. I found two different postings on it, one listed several serial numbers that qualified for the extended warranty on the battery, the other listed the following symptoms:
    Identifying an affected battery
Affected batteries will have one or more of the following symptoms:
Battery is not recognized causing an “X” to appear in the battery icon in the Finder menu bar.
Battery will not charge when computer is plugged into AC power.
Battery exhibits low charge capacity/runtime when using a fully charged battery with a battery cycle count (as shown in System Profiler) of less than 300.
    Battery pack is visibly deformed.
Mine qualifies according to the list of symptoms because is "exhibits low charge capacity/runtime when using a fully charged battery a cycle count less than three hundred."
    Battery Information:
    Model Information:
    Serial Number: Sony-ASMB012-363f-c391

    PCB Lot Code: 0000

    Cell Revision: 0303
    Charge Information:

    Charging: No
    Full charge capacity (mAh): 3715
    Health Information:
    Cycle count: 220
    Condition: Check battery
    Battery Installed: Yes
    Amperage (mA): 0
    Voltage (mV): 12416
When I talked with Apple, they said it did not fall into the list of serial numbers that were included in the program. Does anyone have any advice?? This is clearly exhibiting the issues mentioned, but they're refusing to replace it. My computer is just over a year old. Am I going to have to just bite the bullet and buy a battery?

    cgann25 wrote:
Asen, same here. I talked to 3 different people at Apple and they all told me my serial number didn't fit. It didn't seem to matter that my battery showed the symptoms described in the link above about the extended warranty. It didn't matter to them whether the symptoms started before or after my warranty expired.
It's frustrating that this is a known issue, but they won't help because my serial number doesn't match the "bad batch." Do you have an Apple store near you? I don't. Most people have suggested I go to the Apple store. Maybe you should try it!
See, my problem is a bit complicated. I live outside US. In Europe. In my country the customer care seems not so well developed. Plus there is no Apple office. It seems we have only resellers. But I see it has some room of improvement here too.
I could see there are some group of people having similar problem. How can we contact apple? Do they read these discussions?
If another "batch" of batteries is displaying similar problems, to those already reported, I believe they should consider it. That most probably means that there is another "bad batch" of batteries.
I would say it is fair to have that problem solved by Apple. This is surely not a user-caused issue. This is a hardware problem, I believe. If we pay crazy money in Europe for our MacBooks (compared to US prices), I believe we should be taken care better if some problem is not caused by us.

  • 12" Ibook Battery in a 12" power book?

  • Translucent iBook Battery

    Hello Eveyone,
My MacBook was fine, but I needed soneting a little more portable. When I was at a Computer Flea in Boston, I picked up a 500Mhz iBook Dual USB with a DVD Drive for $25.
Well, of course, you don't get much for $25, so as a project, I am going to fix it up and upgrade it. All of the components are in working order, but the case parts are pretty shot. I will be getting them from PowerBook Tech, so I'm pretty much set there.
But, the battery in it is dead and damaged, so I need to replace that. But, the battey is the original and is a translucent plastic one. Apple doesn't produce the translucent batteries anymore to my knowledge, they are all opaque.
So my question is, where am I able to find a translucent plastic iBook battery? It can be in any condition, any amount of life left, it doesn't matter. I know the opaque batteries do the same thing, but the opaque battery doesn't fit in with the rest of the computer. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!
    -Brian

    You know...
Since you have to replace the case anyway you might want to change the color too! It’s really easy to do:
    1) Soak the case (and battery cover) in rubbing alcohol then wipe off the white paint. Some spots will be stubborn so soak a paper towel in alcohol to get those spots.
    2) Carefully pry off the white bracket piece on the top. This is the piece that goes around the display. Use lots of alcohol here too. It helps dissolve the glue.
    3) When you are down to clear plastic wash the case in warm soapy water and let dry overnight.
    4) Mask off the front with paper and masking tape. You don’t want paint on the outside. Then spray several light coats of Krylon spray paint for plastics. They make lots of colors.
*You can even mask off shapes inside the case. When the paint is dry remove them and you now have windows in your case where you can place your favorite photos! It ends up looking like those laptop skins – only your photos are on the INSIDE!
Here is a photo of one I did in red:

  • Finally a good iBook battery story!

    Hello
After searching these forums in the archived section i found one where a person here recommend a ibook battery from a seller on eBay. finally after thinking for weeks what seller i wanted to buy my battery from i had something to go on-a positive review from someone here. i bought the battery which arrived today and since have tested it.
i took the old one out put the new one in and turned it on from the battery. i thought that i would try it out of the box and it worked and up in the corner showed that it was already at a 50% charge. i since have charged it and as i type this its currently after a hour of use showing a 93-92%charge. this battery came with a one year warrenty and shiped fast.
sorry if this was long or a useless thread but i thought that it would help out people who want to find a good battery on eBay for cheap and from a good seller!

  • TruePowerPremium iBook Battery ...

I had to get a new battery for my G4 iBook. Our local Apple shop sold me a TruePowerPremium iBook Battery, which claims the "Highest Capacity, up to 50% More Capacity."
I've already allowed the battery to go completely dead three times, and fully charged the battery each time. I still only get barely two hours of normal use.
With the original battery I was getting six hours of use. Last summer I was still getting between 4 1/2 and 5 hours of usage. I bought the iBook in June of 2004.
The Apple shop told me that my iBook battery doesn't qualify for free replacement.
Question: Is there a better battery than the TruePowerPremium iBook Battery? I am very disappointed that I can only get two hours of normal use from this brand new battery!!!
    Help .... Thanks.
    iBook G4 Mac OS X (10.4.8)

I tried another brand. When i discovered only Apple's batteries will allow automatic low power sleep I returned it and paid $20 more for an Apple battery.
