Itunes on Windows Vista with SATA Intel Raid Matrix, BLUE SCREEN!
If I wasn't an IT Administrator this problem could've really upset me. I might have perceived your software crashed my hard drives. At least I had the knowledge to know how to re-detect my raid array and get things going; but for a moment i was worried too.
Issue: I have the known problem between APPLE's QUICKTIME and how it negates disk issues with Windows Vista; specifically for those using a RAID ARRAY.
Immediately upon loading the itunes or quicktime program, I lock-up. I sometimes get a bluescreen sometimes it just locks up. I always get a warning about my RAID array when this happens; either having to power down and re-detect the members of the array or the manager says bad disk/write to one of the members.
I must power down and power-up to regain function to my computer.
Intel says this is an apple problem and this doesn't shock me; because Itunes/Quicktime has some interesting disk stuff.
Hello Jeffrey,
Thank you for contacting Intel(R) Technical Support.
We have seen this; however, the root cause of the issue is not our RAID controller or its driver. You need to contact the application developer for additional information and troubleshooting assistance.
*Please contact Apple* for technical assistance.*

I sent some inquiry to Intel regarding my RAID array and apples software. I hope apple considers their windows customers diligently; otherwise they will start to make the same arrogant mistakes other companies have made; like Microsoft.

I would just like to report that I am NOT experiencing the problem you describe. With my configuration (some details below) I can play video podcasts and listen to music in iTunes; I do not get a blue screen. My only issue is choppiness in the video playback (occasional frames dropped / occasional lack of synchronization between audio & video).
- Intel D945GPM Desktop Board (945G chipset)
- Pentium 4 D920 CPU (2.8 GHz dual core)
- Intel Matrix Storage Manager (IMSM) 7.8.0.1012 (November 2007 version)
-> RAID 10 Array over 4 x 250 GB Seagate SATA/300 drives
- iTunes 7.5
- ATI Radeon X1300 Video Adapter
In reviewing your post I am unclear as to what motherboard / chipset you have; you've just shown the model number of the I/O controller (I believe). However, based on that number I believe you're probably running on a motherboard/chipset that has been de-supported by Intel. Hence, you're precluded from using the most recent versions of IMSM. (I have an older machine that has the Intel 875P chipset; I'm stuck running IMSM 5.5.0.1035 on it...)
Newer versions of IMSM support newer features in the latest chipsets and abandon older chipsets; I'm kind of sore at Intel with how quickly the obsoleted my older machine (I think it's only 4 years old).
Anyway, if there is a conflict between iTunes & IMSM, you're probably stuck trying to get it fixed from the Intel side of things. It's probably a flaw in iTunes - complex software - not running in the native Apple environment. -
ITunes haets Windows Vista with a passion.
iTunes often crashes explorer.exe and causes BSODs on my Windows Vista computer. Also, for some reason, access to my iPod is denied and I can't open it like I could for a regular drive. Needless to say, this is VERY annoying.
I like Windows Vista so far, but it's compatibility problems are crippling.I recently downloaded my ITunes library from my old Dell Laptop Inspiron 6000 with Windows XP OS to my new Dell Insprion 6400/E1505 with Windows Vista OS and found that all of my music transfered successfully but the ID tags and track information was transfered in a different order than the actual songs they are "tagged" to so that there is no compatability between a song title/artist/album name and the actual song playing (with the exception that it does tag the info to a different song within the same album just not in the same order). I'm having to go back and manually type-in the correct tag ID's for over 5400+ songs. Are you aware of any "quick fix" for my Windows Vista compatability problem?
My Windows Vista problem is when I try to rip music
to iTunes the process slows down and locks up....I
saw the article and spoke to Apple support....they
say a fix is here or near here....do you have any
insight into this particular dilema?
Thanks for any help or direction

ITunes on Windows Vista...Crashes Every Time
Hi.
I just purchased an ipod nano and installed itunes on my PC (windows vista). It worked the first time but would crash 1/4 of the way through syncing my library to my ipod.
Now itunes just crashes/freezes/is completely unresponsive as soon as I open it either my clicking the icon or by plugging in the ipod.
Completely unimpressed...I have owned 10+ phones/mp3 players in the past and have never had an issue (hadn't been using itunes) with transferring files, etc.
How do I fix itunes?
I updated Quicktime and iTunes...Quicktime is working fine on its own.Hello Mariahthomas
Check out the articles below to troubleshooting issues with iTunes not starting for you on your computer. You may have to uninstall iTunes and then reinstall.

With ITunes in Windows Vista, I've attempted to drag and drop a homemade video folder from my Desktop to ITunes on the PC in order to transfer it to my IPad (as per instructions), but it doesn't show up in my ITunes library. What else should I be doing?
Do you have any videos/movies in the video app?
In iTunes if you right click on the video and select Get Info and go to the Option tap what Media Type is shown? -
I just installed ITunes 11.0.4. I get the error message: "The Itunes Library cannot be saved. A folder was specified instead of a file." When I sign on next, it says the library can't be found, and Itunes wont open. I'm running Windows Vista with Mcafe protection
Hi there Br0x,
You may want to try rebuilding the iTunes library as an initial troubleshooting step. Take a look at the article below for more information.

Iphone 6 plus crashing itunes in Windows 7
Can't synch new iphone 6 plus (64G) with itunes 12.0.1.26 in Windows 7.
iphone 5 synched just fine to computer backup prior to purchasing iphone 6 plus--two hours later it's crashing...

Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is

I'm guessing this is an Apple glitch needing an Apple fix?Hi there panionian,
Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
The article linked below provides troubleshooting tips that’ll resolve most issues like the one that you’ve described, where iTunes quits unexpectedly when syncing your iPhone 6 Plus.

Until recently I have owed 2 iPod Classics - 2007 80gb and 2009 160gb (which has since been returned as it had a very noisy hard drive).
How do I transfer the library from the 160gb to the 80gb in iTunes using Windows Vista.
Nothing seems to help on the Apple support pages, so any help would be appreciated
ThanksThanks for the reply, but not actually sure how to sync a second iPod with the library of the first, as I thought it would not recognise a new iPod for copyright reasons.
Also, the files are in a location on the pc but I had to do lots of formatting amendments in iTunes as most of the stuff was on mp3 files and the formatting was all over the place. I did not want to loose any of the work by simply asking the new iPod to look at the original file and would rather copy en masse from one device to another.
Any help or pointers greatly appreciated

Is there a fix for the incompatibility between itunes and Windows Vista?
I'm having a problem with itunes and Windows Vista. When I download itunes it disables my dvd drive. I have found a fix for that by deleting some registry items, but when I do that itunes is disabled. Does anyone know of a solution to this problem?
Hey Don,
What exactly happens after you install iTunes? Do you see an error message?
This article describes device filter issues that can be caused by application conflicts:

Thanks

Am getting Routine error R6034. I can not open iTunes. Windows Vista Home 64 bit
For the first time,am getting a routine error R6034. Do not let open my iTunes, and possible lost all my contents. Why is this happening, is it nothing secure on the Internet no more even our music? Please I appreaciate any good help. I tried to redownload am stil the same message. During reinstallation.."Service Apple mobile device failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges. Options ABORT,RETRY,OR IGNORE. That is what am getting.
Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
iTunes
Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall move on to the next item)
Bonjour
Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.
Please note:
Some users may need to follow all the steps in whichever of the following support documents applies to their system. These include some additional manual file and folder deletions not mentioned above.

Trying to install itunes on windows vista and get the following error message:
Trying to install itunes on windows vista and get the following error message: An error occurred during the installation of assembly "Microsoft.VC80.CRT,version="8.0.50727.4053",type="win32",publicKey Token="1fc8b3b9a1e3b",process orArchitecture="x86"". A broken Windows Modules Installer then. It's a bit of an involved fix getting past it, but we've had success here with it in the past.
First, I'd strongly suggest setting up a system restore point.
Now try the Scenario III treatment from the following document:
Windows Update Error 80070424 in Vista
Head back into Windows Update and attempt to get updates again. If they still fail, this time with an 8000FFFF error code, try the following Microsoft document:
Windows Update error 8000FFFF
If you get Windows Updates flowing again, stock up on any you're behind on (restarting the PC when requested to do so). This may take some time and may have to be done in several batches, depending on how far you've fallen behind. Basically, keep going back to Windows Update until it stops offering you new updates.
After the updates have been installed, restart the PC one more time (in order to ensure that any pending installs requiring a restart have been resolved).
Now try another iTunes install. Does it go through without the 0x80070424 this time? -
I've just purchased a new computer. It came with Vista Home Premiun OS. When I download iTunes on it -- it works fine until the computer is shut down. When the computer is then started again the DVD/CD driver software cannot be found. The drive won't recognize anything. If I uninstall iTunes it works fine, I reload iTunes and it works fine until I shut down again -- then it doesn't find it again.
I am pretty sure I have the most updated version of Vista (although I will check asap) and know that I have most updated iTunes (just downloaded) -- anyone else have this problem and know how to fix it....other going back to XP or uninstalling iTunes? It would be best first to check for a device filter conflict:
iTunes for Windows Vista: Troubleshooting CD issues caused by device filters
... however, if you're still getting no CD/DVD drive with just the iTunes filters in place, you may be one of the unlucky ones who are getting the issue discussed here:
Optical drives not recognized in Windows Vista after installing iTunes 7
Although it wouldn't necessarily be a short-term solution, keep an eye on that document for updated information about the issue.
In the short term, one workaround might be to use a different application to rip the CDs, and then use the "Add to library" function to get the ripped files into your iTunes. The following document might be of some help with that:
iTunes: About the Add to Library, Import, and Convert functions -
