Ibook CD stuck.

I know it has been posted several times, but just hear me out. My disk is stuck in the cd drive of my Ibook G4. the computer doesn't recognize the disk and i have tried all methods of ejecting the Cd. the only difference that i haven't seen anyone mention is that there is something blocking my cd from coming out. It is about half an inch and simple prevents me from grabbing my disk to pull out. Any ideas?

There is some kind of material, perhaps a fuzzy felt or other
stuff inside and it could be in the way of the disc's exit path.
And it may be a part of the normal mechanism to move discs.
{The drive itself may be defective, and the cure: in a replacement unit.}
You may have to choose some reliable repair center for a fix, if there's
nothing better in the google-type of searches, new to your experience.
This kind of topic has several different stories and cures depending
on the computer model, configuration, build date and other factors.
And sometimes, even changing the CD & DVD sys pref panel setting
to ask what to do with a disc in the drive, so you can choose, may
help get a stubborn disc out of there. In a desktop computer, a few
more choices may be available; even using gravity to get one out
of a newer iMac pizza-box design unit's side slot load opening.
In some cases, in a desktop computer, resetting PRAM (two chimes)
and/or power management or system management controller reset;
and trying different media before taking the unit in for tech repair, is
sometimes recommended. There are times a tray load is simply best.
Maybe someone who is an expert mechanic can offer some ideas.
There are searchable stories online (some here in Discussions)
about these where people have tried 'everything' and no luck!

  • My Ibook gets stuck on upload...

My Ibook gets stuck on upload. Ive purchased, assembled but it just wont upload. Its 92 pages. Im fretting because its a christmas gift my grandfather:(
How do I know if theyve taken my payment and how can I get the book into print asap?

What iPhoto version and system are you running?
Boot into Safe Mode,  Mac OS X: Starting up in Safe Mode, and create a PDF preview file of your book according to this Apple document:  iPhoto, Aperture: Previewing an order in iPhoto or Aperture.
Be sure to proof read the PDF file for any errors, i.e. typos, photos or fonts not appearing, etc,  before ordering.  Once you're satisfied that there are no errors order your book while in Safe Mode.  Keep the PDF file for comparison to the printed copy when you receive it.

  • IBook g4 stuck on start up with gray screen and circle that looks like its downloading

iBook G4 stuck on gray startup screen with circle like it's downloading

If your iBook G4 portable running OS X 10.5.8 or 10.4+
shows a grey screen on startup or other similar variant
to the failure to fully start, there are a few good Support
articles from Apple Support site online that may help.
Each has information to read through, consider, & try.
•Mac OS X: Grey screen appears during startup...
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts2570
•Resolve startup issues & perform disk maintenance with Disk Utility and fsck
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1417
This is akin to troubleshooting since you have a measure
of trial-and-error to resolve the problem; & at times there
may be more than one thing to do, &/or more than once.
    Hopefully this helps.

    2) I've gone through checkout 5 times at $107 per time. Am I getting charged?
    3) What happens if it doesnt work? How do I export the book I spent hours on it... I can't start again. I'll die!

    What system are you running?
You can go to the Apple Store via the button oat the top of this page, click on Acount and select Order Status to see if any of the orders went thru.  I doubt they did as you would have received a comfirmation email.

  • Ibooks is stuck on downloading

I've had my ipad 3 for six months and never had a problem. Today I can't download two ibook samples.  The downloading bar remains empty and the icon won't respond to edit, delete, or to anything in either the ibooks store or library.  I've tried closing the app, closing the screen, resetting, clearing cache, history, turning off wifi, and everything else I can think of.  I don't want to delete and reinstall the ibooks app because I would lose all my pdf's.  Does anyone have any suggestions, please?

I had this problem and fixed it by deleting the iBooks app from my iPad. When I reinstalled it all my previous purchases downloaded, including the two 'stuck' books. Just make sure to backup any PDFs or non-iBooks that you have so you can reinstall them from your backup location.

  • IBook G4 stuck installing Leopard

This is my my first post.
I am trying to install Leopard on my wife's iBook G4 and it keeps getting stuck on Welcome page after I choose the language. It will not let me get out of this and the wheel keeps spinning and I can hear the disk running. It says, "In order upgrade to Mac OS X v 10.5, you must have Mac OS X v10.4 or later already installed on your computer. Searching for Mac OSX on the computer..."
I thought I was running the latest version of Tiger. Is there any way to get out of this screen? Can I get back to Tiger? How do I do a hard reset here? Sorry for all of the questions and thanks for any help.

Thanks everyone for their replies. I had to take the iBook into the Genius bar to get the Leopard disk removed. They were able to get the disk out and get me back to Tiger. They informed me that the 256 RAM was not enough and that I could easily upgrade up to 1 GB. I went to RamSeeker.com and ordered a 1 GB card for pretty cheap. I try Leopard again after I install the RAM upgrade.

  • HT201272 iBooks download stuck on paused

When I try to download a book on iBooks it gets stuck on "paused".  What must I do?

    Hey kave621,
It sounds as if you purchased Pages from the Mac App Store and have not been able to complete the download and installation, a frustrating situation to be sure. Let's see if we can get you back on the road.
This article describes what you can do to resume a download from the store -
Mac App Store: Buy, download, and install apps
In particular see the section titled Pause, resume, or cancel an app download.

  • TS1702 A purchased book in iBooks is stuck in downloading status, downloaded on my phone but I cannot manipulate it on my pad

I have a book that is stuck in the downloading status, it will not complete and cannot be deleted.   Originally loaded as a sample did not complete the load, loads fine to my phone, but not the pad, purchased on the phone subsequently but still cannot load to my pad, restarted pad in hard boot with no change in status. Any suggestions

  • IBook G3 stuck on Loading screen

hello, I just got an IBook G3 and it is stuck on the apple loading screen, how can I surpass the loading screen? Yes this G3 is old (don't know the year) and I don't know the OS Since I just got it. Plus I don't care about new computers if it stilol works I'll take it. So can someone help me, thank you! (P.S it's a white G3 snow)

The Hard Drive failed. It is now stuck on the Grey screen (no apple logo) and I did buy a new hard drive, as well as some other parts needed, thanks for visiting my post.

  • IBook g4 stuck on start up screen

My ibook G4 is stuck on the grey start up screed with the apple and the rotating disks. The disk just rotates forever. I checked lots of other posts and tried many things, but to no avail. I reset the PMU, PRAM, and went through many trouble shooting techniques in single user mode. I attempted to use fsck, but it wont go all the way through and I get the notice: Disk 0s3: I/O Error, invalid node structure (3,58) and then it says volume check failed.
I really do not have the money to attempt to get this thing fixed and need to try everything possible before I take it in. I don't have the restore disks and will attempt to completely restore to factory settings if all else fails, but I would like to get many of my files off the computer before I do this. How would I go about that as well? I am rather computer illiterate.
    Thanks,
    Alex

+Invalid Node Structure+ is a serious error Disk Utility and fsck cannot fix.
You'll need a more robust utility for the repair. I would recommend DiskWarrior. It is the best at directory repairs. It rebuilds then actually replaces your old directory. I feel every Mac owner should have a copy. Make sure you get the disk so you can boot up on it to run repairs. You can also install it on another drive and run it from there to repair this one. DW works faster that way.
I use DW once a month to try and catch errors in my system from getting too far out of hand.
Be aware that Invalid Node Structure is so bad that sometimes DiskWarrior cannot repair it, if it's too far gone. But I believe DiskWarrior is your best shot.
    Good Luck! DALE
    p.s. Here's a rewiew of DiskWarrior 4.

  • IBooks download stuck.

I am using iBooks on an iPad air. I had downloaded a sample of a book and finished reading it, but when I tried to purchase the full version of the book, the download got stuck with zero progress showing. I have tried restarting my iPad multiple times, resetting my iPad, deleting the iBooks app and reinstalling it, and downloading a free iBook as was suggested in the forums, but nothing works. All of the other books I have downloaded have worked fine, and I can still download other books even though this book is stuck. I have been able to download the book on my computer and on my iPhone, but my iPad refuses to download the book. My iPad won't even let me delete the book that is stuck. All of my software is up to date.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

  • IBook G4, stuck at blue screen

    Apple ibook G4. OSX 10.4.2
1.5 GB RAM, 512 on board, 1GB Apple RAM.
    1) Blue screen at login.
    2) Will boot into safe mode and works stable.
In safe mode, I was able to backup all items cared about.
After peeling back many layers of testing, including and archive and restore, I arrived at erase and install. So now I have a clean OS. No drive errors, No OS9 install.
    Booted once to login screen.
Now, boots only to blue screen before login with mouse.
    Safe mode works.
This configuration was my last 10.4 config:
Ibook G4 OSX 10.4.2 1.5 GB RAM, 512 on board, 1GB Apple RAM.
    • Fresh from disk install of 10.4.2
    • No Disk errors. Fsck = OK Disk Util from CD no errors, No permission errors.
    • AHT = OK no errors.
    • Will not boot to login, get blue screen and mouse.
    • Will boot to safe mode.
    • Creating second user and setting 2nd user autologin, or ask for login does not fix problem.
    • Neither user password users high ASCII characters.
    • Verbose mode rolls through, stops at same blue screen.
    • Single user mode
o Time/date is off by one hour.
o Directory service loads, sees Ethernet link (or fails if disconnected), sees wireless, fails to load initCardWithStoredPrefs (no profile has been configured), AFH is supported. Ntpudate[73]: no servers can be used, exiting System stops and hangs here. Restart boot hangs at starting printing services.
    I currently have this config:
iBook G4 OSX 10.5.8 1.5GB RAM, 512 on board, 1GB Apple RAM has been removed and reinstalled for testing.
    • Fresh from disk install of 10.5.2 retail copy.
    • No Disk errors. Fsck = OK Disk Util from CD no errors, No permission errors.
    • Will not boot to login, get blue screen and mouse.
    • Will not boot to login, gets stuck at starfield background, no dock
    • Will boot to safe mode and works great and stable.
So problem is ?hardware?? Where do I go next? I am out of ideas.

    Hi kleach,
Have you tried using Smart Utility to check your Hard Drive? If not, I would give that a go:
If your Hard Drive is failing it will let you know. Smart Utility looks at the mechanics of your Hard Drive differently than Disk Utility examines the directory structures. You can download a free trial version.
    http://www.volitans-software.com/smart_utility.php
After you run the short test, try using the long test and examine the report.
    Good Luck,
    Randy

  • IBOOK G4: Stuck on gray screen, no display...please help.

    Hello everyone,
I need help with my IBOOK G4. I have power and I hear the fan and the start up sound, but it gets stuck on the gray screen with the apple in the middle and the circle spinning. I am trying to use the software restore and install disc to start it up and it won't read it. I turned it on and help down the power button and the "C" key and it still gets stuck on the gray screen. I am not concerned with saving any data or software, I just want it to turn on. Anyone have any other suggestions?
    Thank you.

I'm probably grasping at straws, but can you start up in Safe Mode (Safe Boot)? Press down the shift key from when you hear the start up chime until you see the words "Safe Boot" in red letters on the log in screen AND keep pressing it until you click on the Log In button. It may take a very long time as Tiger will be scanning your hard drive for problems. You should also have all your peripherals disconnected. If this works, you will disable a lot of things that might be causing problems and have a chance to look for the cause of your problem.
If you can get on using safe boot, please post back for further advice. I am not an expert on safe boot, but I do have a good book I can consult. And with luck, one of the more experienced and knowledgeable members of the forum will step in and help.
    Good luck!

  • Ibook G4 stuck at 'select user' menu screen

hey....been reading through this forum about and realised that many have the same problem i'm currently facing with my ibook g4...
i'm able to boot up my ibook normally then it'll get stuck at the blue screen where the 'select user' menu is supposed to pop up....
tried the various method like repairing disk on disk utilities but the DU reports that my disk does not need any repairs...the thing is i'm able to boot up as per normal via safe mode and thats as far as i can get...any help? thanks in adv!

If you have the original boot installer disc set which accompanied the
computer when new, there is an Apple Hardware Test on there.
The computer may have some hardware failure behind this anomaly
and may require troubleshooting to get an estimate on what may be
wrong, if a hardware defect is the cause of this problem. Otherwise,
tech time and a hopeful cure may take one of several possible paths.
In some computers, the wireless won't work when in SafeBoot mode
perhaps in more than I know. I have not tried to go online in mine while
they are in SafeBoot, since that is a reduced boot set and is for testing
    or checking the computer mostly.
Was there a report in Disk Utility from running the booted installer disc's
version of that utility? Sometimes, when it is repairing a disk drive, and
some report says it can't fix something, then that may indicate failure in
the hard disk drive; or some directory issue, or perhaps a low-level one
where the drive may need to be over-written with zeros using the option
in Disk Utility from the booted installer disc, & reformat to APM or HFS+
before running the Installer to put a new system on the wiped empty HD.
You may need to try different things in order to further troubleshoot this
computer, to include Disk Warrior or other third party disk utilities, or
have someone who already has the correct disks and is trained, to do it.
There may be an error in the hard disk drive, so if you haven't tried using
the options in the Disk Utility to zero the drive, that may be something. If
you have work on this computer and had not backed it up to other media,
it will certainly be lost; if not before now, very surely once it gets wiped.
A third party utility such as Disk Warrior can be used to try and fix the
issues, as best it can and only do what it was intended, at most; but may
allow you to fix the system enough to recover your data and move on...
Since the computer does boot into SafeBoot, you can recover files from
the hard disk drive. It probably will also boot into FireWire Target Disk
Mode, so using a FW cable to another Mac could occur, to move files.
The moved files could be saved to DVD or CD-R media in another Mac.
Of course, once you'd tried the reinstall (not just use the menu bar choice
of several other functions prior to launching the Installer) your old System
may be in the hard disk drive with a name 'previous' and it won't boot it.
    Other ideas on hard disk drive issues, can be found in other forum posts;
some are not exactly the kinds of symptoms your machine exhibited.
