IBook chargers - Must it be 45watt?

Hi
I've just recently purchased an iBook, But its in need of a new charger. The piece that actually goes into the machine is no longer round and it its quite difficult to seat it properly. And occasionally it just stops charging so I'm guessing its not getting a brilliant connection because of the round bit being out of shape.
I've had quick look on ebay and can see A1021's and A1036's. The first being a 65watt and the second 45watt they are both listed as being compatible with iBook G4. My charger is a 45watt.
Would it be ok to replace that with a 65watt. Are there any disadvantages to this? I can see apple them selves now only sell the 65watt version which leads me to believe its no problem but just want to confirm before i go ahead and get one of ebay.
My actual system is the 12" 1.33 GHz (Mid 05)
Thanks for any advice on this. Cheers Adam

While some have used more than the required wattage without issue, the number of power adapter issues people have run into and power supply issues people have run into could be due to using the wrong adapters, or mistreating their adapters. Best to get one rated for your machine, as they are sensitive to non-spec things added to them. My FAQ* here has several sources you can look into:

  • IBooks app - must download again after iOS 5 update

This was so frustrating I thought it deserved another posting.
I bought two new books through iBooks store and they appeared to be corrupted.
The failure was very confusing and I thought it was content related.
I deleted the books from the shelf and redownloaded the content from Apple.
    Same thing.
I finally reluctantly deleted the iBooks App.. which also deleted all associated data.
Then went to App Store and downloaded the iBooks App again.
Then opened one of the books, everything was fine.
The nature of the error messages that were being reported led me to believe there was a DRM encode/decode error occurring repeatedly between the iBooks App and the book it was trying to render.
    Mind you
I had updated to iOS 5 several days ago and nothing odd appeared to happen.
So something must have happened unnoticed or somehow the new iOS5 operating system could no longer work with the iBooks App I had on my iPad2.
This might help a lot of other people having other problems with the iBook App on the iPad2.
Hence why I'm posting this separate from my original question and answer.

I have Ping turned off in iTunes, thus will not appear on my phone. There is no separate app, Ping gets transferred to your phone if turned on in iTunes on your computer.

  • What do i need to publish a paid ibook when I have taxation in Cyprus or can I get US taxation I.D to publish

I live in Cyprus and am interested in publishing a paid ibook in ibook store. I have taxation in Cyprus but not in U.S. I read in a website that I can request U.S tax status/I.D how do I do this and so I need it?
    Can you help with this?:)

Just read the FAQ.  For a paid ibook you must get a US tax ID.

Another option is the use an Aggregator (also described in the FAQ).

  • IBooks Author 2.1.3 Requirement

I got this email from Apple, it says at the end:
    iBooks Author 2.1.3 Requirement
Starting September 1, 2014, new or updated Multi-Touch books submitted to the iBooks Store must be created with iBooks Author 2.1.3 or later.
Multi-Touch books delivered prior to this date will still be reviewed by Apple or, if already approved, will remain available on the iBooks Store.
Do you know if that means ALL books, or the ones created with iBooks Author now needing to upgrade version.
If they are only allowing books created with iBooks Author, that'd shake the industry as I understand it.
    Thanks.

I don't have a copy of the Apple authoring rules, but in their marketing materials they always connect "Mutli-Touch" books with books created with iBooks Author. I don't think it's precluding EPUB 3 files. I think they're saying if you're using iBooks Author, you must at least be using version 2.1.3 or later.

  • How do I send my iBooks to my quick reader app?

I have a quick reader app and would like to see my PDFs and iBook in that program.

From the Apple kb - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4059
You can use iBooks on iPad. You can also use iBooks on iPhone or iPod touch with iOS 4 or later.
An iTunes Store account is required to download books from the iBookstore.
iBooks uses the ePub file format.
To add ePub files from outside the iBookstore to iBooks, they must be DRM-free and manually synced to your device using iTunes 9.2 or later.

  • Can one have i cloud functionon windows 8.1 allowing to be able to read ibooks

can one have i cloud function on windows 8.1 allowing to be able to read ibooks

To read iBooks you must have the iBook app which only works on iOS devices and Mac OS X 10.9, Mavericks.

  • Upgrade from 10.0.4 to 10.2.8

I have an early version of OS X because I was too disorganised to upgrade before. But now I find if I want to print with an HP Officejet G55 I need at least 10.2.8 for the printer driver to work.
Can anyone advise how I can upgrade to 10.2.8.? I can't find a relevant link on the mac sites.
I know that my iBook can't take the latest versions (10.4...) but it should have the capacity for this lesser upgrade. Or should I just buy a new lap-top?! Obviously paying for this upgrade should be cheaper if it will work...
    Any advice appreciated.
In case of confusion on the model of iBook, I think it is the 12.1 model that just precedes the logo update (it has the old logo, but certainly isn't one of the colourful ones).

I think if you have an iBook, it must at least be a G3. You most likely have the same iBook that I have, as I purchased mine at about the same time (or you have the 600MHz). You can check in the System Profiler to make sure.
Probably the best way for you to find it is to go to: HD>Applications>Utilities>System Profiler. Open it and you can check what the processor speed is, how much RAM you have installed, and the size of your Hard Drive.
I personally ran 10.3 on mine, with the 10GB HD and 256 RAM (I have since upgraded it to a 60GB HD and 640 RAM). If you choose to use 10.3, do a Custom Install, using only the printers and languages you need, which will save a significant amount of HD space.
You can probably find both 10.2 and 10.3 on eBay. Make sure to purchase Retail versions only. Also, get as much RAM as possible (the largest RAM module your iBook will take is 512 MB). After installing the new OS, go to Apple Downloads and install the latest upgrades.
    Hope this helps,
    Susan

  • 90% Screen goes to Black

I have problem with iBook display almost 90 Black I still able to see it and do something but very dark. Also the backlight is off. Plase help !!!

If yours is a 1.25 MHz iBook, it must be a G4 model?
There is a long thread called 90 degrees and black out!!!! ... which addresses this problem. Maybe you can find some help there.
Another idea would be to post in the iBook G4 Discussions, if yours is a G4 iBook.

  • Is this another scam?  Got the following email ...

    Dear iTunes Customer,
Our records indicate that you have been using your AOL Username to sign in to iTunes Store, App Store or iBooks Store.
After the 30th March 2015, AOL will no longer support your ability to sign in to iTunes Store, App Store or iBooks Store. In order to continue using the store features, including the ability to access your previously purchased content, you must transition from signing in with your AOL Username to signing in with an Apple ID.
To make this transition, simply sign in once more with your AOL Username to iTunes on your Mac or PC. You will automatically be taken through a few short steps to complete the process.
When the process is complete, your new Apple ID will allow you to continue to purchase and download music, films, TV shows, apps, books and more. Additionally, your Apple ID will allow you to access other Apple services, such as iCloud and the Apple Online Store.
This transition does not affect any AOL services that you may be using with your AOL Username.
AOL Usernames which have not been transitioned to Apple ID will permanently lose access to iTunes Store, App Store and iBooks Store after the 30th March 2015. Apple will be unable to provide support for AOL Usernames which are not transitioned by this date.
To learn more about this transition, visit                    support.apple.com/kb/HT204268.
    Regards,
    iTunes Store Team

This does appear to be a genuine message. The link goes to a valid Apple support document: Convert your AOL Username to an Apple ID - Apple Support
    The text reads thus:
Convert your AOL Username to an Apple ID
Customers who use an AOL Username to sign in to the iTunes Store, App Store, or iBooks Store must convert to an Apple ID before March 31, 2015.
Starting March 31, 2015, AOL will no longer allow customers to use their AOL Username (also known as an AOL Screen Name) to sign in to the iTunes Store, App Store, or iBooks Store.
You must convert your AOL Username to an Apple ID in order to maintain access to the stores and to content you purchased previously.
Apple can't provide support for AOL Username accounts that aren't converted by this date. This transition doesn't affect any AOL services that you use with your AOL Username.
    Convert your account
To convert your AOL Username to an Apple ID, sign in to iTunes on a Mac or PC with your AOL Username. Then follow the on-screen instructions.
Your new Apple ID will maintain your access to the iTunes Store, App Store, and iBooks Store, as well as all of the content you bought using your AOL Username. You can also use your Apple ID with iCloud and other Apple services.

(As above, but laid out a little differently)
If you currently sign in with an AOL screenname rather than some thing that look like a standard email address, <user>@<domain>, then presumably iTunes is going to walk you through the conversion process.

  • Preloading for personal use

Posting here as I believe my question is mostly associated with enterprise deployment.
I'd like to preconfigure iPads that will be given away.  This includes loading free apps (all in the app store), setting wallpaper/lockscreen, a couple webclips, loading a couple PDFs (into iBooks, which must be loaded), and loading a video.  These units will then be someone elses to use as they please.
I thought perhaps the new Apple Configurator application was perfect for this, but it appears that the free applications will be associated with the user id on the loading mac, and thus they will not be able to be updated, not can they be redownloaded wirelessly (what does this mean, one needs to delete, and then add again with the users Apple id?).  See the information on this from Apple at the bottom.
If these were PC's it would be as simple as creating a hard drive image and burning it to each machine.
I don't want to manage these units, I just want some content placed on them prior to being given to the end user, with them never to come back again!
Also, I'd like to avoid having to touch each unit and do this manually - it needs to be somewhat automated, able to do multiple iPads at a time - there will be quite a few.
What am I missing?  I'm not finding any information that addresses what I'm trying to do, but have to believe it's been done.
Important: Apps installed using Apple Configurator are tied to the device they were
installed on, not to a specific Apple ID. To update apps deployed using Apple Configurator,
you must reconnect to the same Mac from which the apps were installed. Additionally,
you can’t redownload these apps via iTunes in the Cloud. Therefore, it’s recommended
that Apple Configurator be used to install App Store apps on supervised or assigned
    devices only.

Okay, I get/understand that.  As long as I can get the apps onto the iPads, I'll accept that the user will have to delete/reinstall in order to update them in the future.   Far from ideal, but I'm somewhat use to this with Apple products.
I'll play around with it and see what the implications are for the end user.  I'm hopeful my Apple ID doesn't pop-up if they try to update!!

  • 512MB vs 768MB RAM for Internet Browsing

I've got a new (closeout) 1Ghz iBook w/ the standard 256MB RAM soldered in. I have one free RAM slot. It will be running 10.4. Usually my motto is the more RAM the better, but I'm not so sure in this instance:
This iBook is SOLELY going to be used as an Internet terminal and nothing more. (I have a PM and PB for my main computing needs).
A 256MB stick of RAM (which will give me 512MB RAM total) is $23 shipped. A 512MB stick is $56. I'd really like to put as little $ in this machine as possible given its limited purpose, so I'm wondering if I'll actually see any benefit from the extra 256MB RAM that a 512MB stick would give me. Any opinions on this?

No. The only RAM your iBook can handle is PC2100/2700 DDR SO-DIMMs. A regular DIMM will not fit. DDR2 RAM will not work.
Additionally, iBook RAM must be unbuffered, non-ECC, 2.5v., CAS 2.5 or better.

  • IPhone dock connector

I have a dock from a clickwheel iPod in which my fist gen iPod worked great but the 3g says device isn't supported. Same thing with my iPod connector in my car: 1st iPhone would charge and play but new phone won't charge but will play. Are pinouts different or what is the issue? Any thoughts?

most likely your accessories used the fire wire pinout for charging. Apple removed support for charging on those pins in the 3g. Chargers must charge using the USB standard to work on the 3G iPhone.

  • HT4059 I have iPod Touch 4 w/ iOS 6.1.5 (10B400). according to the requirements on this page, above, I should be able to use iBooks. However I keep getting the message that I must upgrade to iOS7 - but your website will not allow me to do so.  Why not?

... I should be able to use iBooks. However, I can't. When I try to download the app I get the message that I must upgrade to iOS7 - but then Apple's website won't let me download that either. So far, I have managed to download a book to iTunes on my PC, but I cannot get it to sync with my iPod, although I have synced music, a video and a few other apps. I cannot seem to find a solution to my problems with iBooks or iOS7. Please advise.
    Yours truly,
    Garth Reid
PS I also cannot get the app for Podcasts.

Having the same issue here. I unfortunately purchased a book on iTunes, then went to download iBooks, but can't due to their recent update/upgrade.  My kids iTouchs are all 6.1.5 , So I'm guessing that if you did not have iBooks previously purchased that you are now S.O.L. if you want to read a book on your iPod??
I am rather frustrated that I spent money on a book that they can't read.
Is there another app that will let them read it?

  • I have developed a fillable form using Adobe Acrobat Pro. The form has several fields and some of the information is captured in a bar code. What programs must be used to open the form to properly fill the form out?  Adobe Reader, Adobe Xi, Ibook, etc.. I

I have created a fillable form using Adobe Acrobat Pro that contains several data fields with some feeding data to a barcode in the document.  I have a "button" set up to save and send the completed form one it is completed.  Some of the user are having troubles filling out the form as they are using various programs to do such as iBook, Adobe Reader, etc....  Sometimes the information is not transferred to the barcode and sometimes the "submittal button" doesn't function properly.
Please provide a solution or give me a list of the programs that must be used to properly open and fill out the form.
    Greatly appreciated.

Best option is to use Adobe Reader (or Acrobat, of course) on a desktop computer (ie, not on a mobile device). Any other configuration is likely to be problematic.
