IBook does not see Air Disk on AirPort Extreme

We have a few macs in my house (G5 desktop, MBP CD2, and an iBook G4). Both the G5 and the MBP see the Air Disk connect to the AE network but the iBook doesn't. iBook is running 10.3.9 and I use the "go" menu to connect to the server (IP address for the AE basestation). It worked last night with a different drive that I was testing. I purchased a new enclosure (Newer Tech's miniStack). The HD is a WD 250 GB. The AE basestation is set up to connect to the disk via the basestation's password.
Thanks.
Tom

To access the disk attached to the AirPort Extreme base station (AEBS) your iBook must be upgraded to OS 10.4.8 or better. See AirPort Extreme (802.11n) - Technical Specifications.

  • SQL server 2012 does not see local disks other than C being started under domain account (which is local admin on the server)

Hi all. We have a SQL Server 2012 installed to a fresh Windows Server 2012 Server. There is a service account domain\rusystem01 created to run SQL services. It is added as a Local administrator on this server.
The issue is that SQL Server does not see any local drives (other than C drive) on the server if we run it from this domain service account (for example, we cannot move any databases to any other drives or setup backup).
It works fine (and other drives ARE available) if SQL Services are started from Network service account or Local service account (which is not recommended by Microsoft). But does not work from domain account.
Any ideas how to fix this?

Apply NTFS ACLs for the folders (and perhaps volumes*) for SQL Server.  Use the Per-Service SID, rather than the Service Account for the ACLs so they survive changing the service account.
The per-service SID is "NT Service\MSSQLSERVER" for a default instance and "NT Service\MSSQL$InstanceName" for a named instance.
*Volume ACLs are set in Disk Management.

David, would you please clarify what do you propose? I open D: volume on the Disk management and grant NT Service\MSSQL$DEV account with Full control permissions. Restarted SQL - no effect. Still only C: is visible for SQL.

  • AirPort Extreme does not see printer, hard drive, AirPort Express!

I just got an AirPort Extreme (802.11n), to replace my AirPort Express. I have a Brother 665CW wireless all-in-one printer, which had worked perfectly but now I cannot find it. I have also hooked my USB hard drive into the Extreme. I can see the hard drive in the AirPort Utility, but I don't know how to find it from my iBook. I'd also like to put the Express in another room to use the AirTunes feature. Unfortunately, almost nothing is working!
Here is how it's set up:
    Den:
    AirPort Extreme - hardwired to:
    - DSL modem
    - hard drive (via USB)
    Brother 665CW (wireless)
    Living Room:
    AirPort Express
Advice would be appreciated. I'm usually able to troubleshoot my problems, but documentation on this Extreme is really bad! Thanks!
    iBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

I had problems adding Airport expresses using Airport Utility. However I found it worked fine if I used the manual set-up option and not the Assist me option.
Reset the airport express then, in manual set-up, set the express to 'join an airport network' add the airport network password and see if that works

  • How can I see the disk in airport extreme

    Hello
I have an airport extreme, I downloaded the Airport Utility, I connected the printer and everyting is fine, I can access the printer from other computers at home. Then I unplugged the printer and connected an USB disk (working of course), and everything is fine, Airport Utility detected it. However, I dont know how can I access the disk from the computers. I have all windows 7 computers at home, but now way to see the disk. What I am doing wrong
    thank your

I don't use this setting, so can't offer much assistance, but do know that your computer is exposed to the Internet, so it will receive all inbound traffic.
Normally, a typical use of Default Host would be to setup a game console to allow online gaming when NAT settings otherwise would not allow communications to occur.
You might want to start a new post for your question...but to get informed responses....you will need to state what you are trying to do. what steps you have performed, etc.

  • Time machine not recognising external disk on airport extreme

    Hi
I have connected a LaCie d2 Quadra disk to the usb port on my airport extreme.
The disk is formatted as HFS+
If I look in Finder (with Bonjour computers enabled as displayed) I can see the external disk through the airport extreme.  I can enter the disk and see the drive (it is connected), but I cannot add files to the disk.
If I open Time Machine setup, I cannot see any external disk at all.
If I look in Airport utility, I can see the d2 Quadra listed as an external disk on the extreme, and I have set it up for File Sharing (using the device password)
Can anyone advise why Time Machine (OS-X Yosemite 10.10.1 on iMac) cannot see it?
And what to do to get it connected please to allow backups from any mac user's machine?
    Thanks
    Andy

So, LaCie advised to connect direct to Mac to check all ok.  It was.
As soon as the HD was plugged in directly, TM recognised it and asked if I want to use it for backup. In Finder, the d2 Quadra appears, I can open it, and transfer files directly to and from it.
For reference, the Airport Extreme is connected via Ethernet to the iMac I am using (so no WiFi in this particular chain of connectivity), and the Extreme firmware is the latest (7.6.4) for the model (802.11n)
The issue is that connecting to the USB port on the Extreme, I cannot get the HD to operate like this!
LaCie now state that they cannot help further!!!
Does anyone have any idea why the Extreme is not sharing the HD as it is meant to?
    Thanks
    Andy

  • USB Drive does not work when connected to Airport Extreme

I had an external drive connect directly to my iMac and recently purchased an Airport Extreme. When I plugged it into the USB point on the back of the AX has an odd name and won't allow access. When it was configured directly to my iMac it was named TheVault, now it is TheVault???. When I try to access via Go>Network in finder menu, I get "The operation cannot be completed because the original item for "TheVault??? cannot be found." Another detail if found in the GetInfo it that it shows 0kb available. All things point to it's existence as a drive but it has no access to the data that was clearly there when it was plugged into the back of the desktop. Jack sends.

Did you use AirPort Utility to enable disk sharing?

  • PB does not boot UNLESS I remove Airport Extreme Card

My 15" PowerBook G4 will not boot unless I remove the Airport Extreme Card. I doubt there is a problem with the card itself. Could it be an issue related to the internal components that the card plugs in to? I read on another forum that my issue could be a faulty connection between the card and the logic board (part no.821-0352-A).

Thanks for your reply, i totally agree and i have never had a issue with toshiba warranties before usually they are very good and i reccomend toshiba aftersales service to all our clients.
My only concern is that they didnt check it properly last time and if they dont find a fault this time they will be charging me 80 plus vat to get my laptop back according to the toshiba rep. This is not a fault that happens during normal operation and takes hours to replicate if they dont then they wont find the fault.
Fingers crossed they find it this time otherwise i may have a battle on my hands.

  • TM does not see my disk, but it shows up in finder.

I have connected an external hard drive through a USB connection. Finder sees it, and it comes up on my desktop. My problem, however, is when I try to connect to Time Machine. It doesn't show up when I click "choose backup disk." I also plugged in a flash drive, and it's on my desktop, but absent from time Machine. I've checked all the posts and looked where they told me, but to no avail. I am not a tech person, but I'm not an idiot, and right now, I am not a happy camper. I do have Fusion and parallels on my computer as well (I'm trying to decide which I like better). I don't see a connection on why that would impact it, but I'm throwing everything in as a possibility.

Yes, you need an HFS+ formatted drive to use Time Machine. Most external USB drives you get come formatted as FAT32 (which is an old PC format that the Mac can read/write to). Some of the tricks Time Machine uses (specifically, hard links) are not compatible with FAT32.
A good clue to when a drive is formatted as FAT32 is that the name shows up IN ALL CAPS.

  • I am connected to time capsule via wi-fi but air port says not connected and disk utility does not see it

I am connected to time capsule via wi-fi but air port says not connected and disk utility does not see it. I had it connected via ethernet and it still did not see it. Then i disconncectd it from ethernet and did the Wi-fi connection and am able to post this message but air port still does not see it.

Disk Utility will not "see" the Time Capsule, so no need to waste any more time on that issue.
but air port still does not see it.
Not sure what you mean by "air port" here.

  • Migration Assistant Does Not See Attached External Disk

I just purchased a MacBook Air to replace an aging MacBook Pro.  Both are running the latest Mountain Lion (10.8.3).  I want to move my files from the MBP to the MBA using Migration Assistant.  I first tried doing this over wi-fi, but when I learned it would take more than 99 hours, I chose to cancel the operation.
So I connected a new Seagate HD to the MBP and configured Time Machine to back up to it.  I let Time Machine run all day, creating hourly updates after the initial backup.  I then disconnected the drive, attached it to the MBA and rebooted.  I ran Migration Assistant and chose to migrate from a Time Machine backup.  However, Migration Assistant does not see the disk.  Yet the disk is mounted on the desktop, I can read and write to it, and I can see the Time Machine backups.  Only Migration Assistant seems unable to recognize the disk.
This isn't the first time I've had problems with MA (see my posting history).  When it works, it's terrific - my new computer has all the settings and preferences as the old.  My applications are all registered and operational.  So I'm very frustrated that I can't get it to work with my new MBA.  It really does diminish the experience of getting a new computer.  That, plus I don't want to spend days and weeks moving things over manually, re-installing, etc.
C'mon, Apple.  Why is Migration Assistant so difficult?  I'd chalk it up to user error, but this many times?

So, finally after fourten hours of unattended "migration," I let it continue overnight and in the morning found that the time remaining had not moved a minute.  I canceled MA and found that not one iota of data had transferred.
As far as I'm concerned, Migration Assistant ranks lower on the Apple success list than Open Doc, Newton, Pink and Taligent.
Now I have to manually install software I want to use on the MBA, apply licenses, and all the other stuff I would expect from Windows.
    NOT happy.

  • 60gb iPod does not see music files on my external HD

I'm going nuts trying to figure out why my iBook does not see the music files on my external HD.
I have a 250gb external hard drive (that I put together with an enclosure and HD I bought from Tiger Direct). I have the hard drive hooked up to my G3 iBook via Fire Wire. The HD comes up on the desktop, but none of the files are seen. Now, when I take the same HD and hook it up to my Windows PC, all my music is there.
I really don't want to have my iPod hooked up to my PC. My G3 is too small to hold all the music. I need to have the external HD to handle all the music for my iPod.
How do I accomplish this on my G3?
    Thanks!
    iBook G3   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

    Hyphen says:
[The] drive can be formatted as fat32 and be read/written by macs. He could also partition it, one partition as hfs+, the other as fat32. This can be done from disk utility.
The NTFS format (windows) has only read support for OS X.
How did s/he copy the music on the external drive? Was the music on his/her pc? If yes the hierarchy may be different for the pc version of iTunes library, or is it that he can't find the files even from the finder?
    And Red Dwarf adds:
Just to add to hyphen's reply, FAT32 has a maximum size of 32GB. The user cannot make the partition larger than 32GB should they decide to go down that route.
Another alternative is a utility called TransMac. When installed on a PC, it will allow the PC to recognise a Mac OS formatted drive and read the files within. No need then to worry about all that FAT32 and NTFS malarky stuff. It weighs in at $64 dollars though for a 1-3 user licence:

So hopefully, with Kappy's help, too, you will be able to figure it out.
    Good luck.

  • IBook G4 Airport Extreme does not see any SSID

    Hi,
My iBook 1,2 Ghz has been working great for several years now.
I am working with Mac OS X Tiger (10.4.11) for quite some time
and it never let me down. I connect to the internet using an Airport Express
    connected to a speedtouch router.
The Airport Express Card in my iBook always found 6 or 7 SSID's of other
Wireless Networks in my neighbourhood and it used to login automatically on
my Airport Express wireless wetwork station.
Last week it suddenly stopped working correctly.
After starting OS X on my laptop the little Airport icon in the upper bar faded out grey.
When I click it it says it can't find any networks.
I checked all my settings, downgraded my Airport Extensions
and even installed a spare (refurbished) Airport Extreme Card.
Even with another Airport Extreme Card it does not see any wireless networks.
My other macs, a unibody MacBook Pro and white MacBook work fine with the Airport Express.
What could be wrong? Am I overlooking something here? Can somebody help me out?
How can i get my Airport Express/iBook G4 connected to my wireless network again?

    Hi Elko,
    Thanks for the reply.
I re-installed the original Airport Extreme card into the slot again.
But now i pushed it harder than the first time. (just like you said)
I noticed the second click, but that doesn't seem to be the problem.
Both Airport Cards (the original and the new) were installed correctly.
I also checked the antenna connection but that is seated o.k. too.
After re-installing the card, i booted into Mac OS X Tiger and checked the ASP.
It says a Airport Extreme Card is installed with firmware version 405.1 (3.90.34.0.p.18)
and the langauge version is international/worldwide. So far, so good.
Nevertheless the airport card does still not find any wireless networks or SSID's after
scanning multiple times. (Location on automatic)
I am planning an upgrade to Leopard today. Maybe that's gonna help, since there were some Airport Extreme updates in Leopard. If that's not the solution, I will stay with your other suggestion and buy me a nice USB dongle.
Do you have any idea what type of dongles work best with Leopard? I have seen some different models, but a lot of dongles require third-party software to make it work and are not automatically recognized by OS X.

  • Airport network form time capsule does not see airport express

    Hello,
I'm rather new, bought my first apple few days ago, it's great. Have been throwing away years by using the blue screen machines
I now have mac mini, today i bought time capsule and an airport express.
time capsule to make my network and the airport express to connect my stereo.
Important: I have no internet connection yet, it will be installed in 10 days.
for now i use a mobile phone connection on the mac mini.
I installed time capsule. time machine works and airport is in the air.
With airport utility i can see the time capsule, but nothing else.
it has been there for a short time, but then time capsule was gone.
i can not find the utility to start installing airport express all over. Maybe i gave the wrong WPA2 password with the first install, but can not find the software to try again.
I placed the a.expr within 1 meter of time capsule for this test.
led of time capsule is green, led of a.expr is amber blinking.
I did a reset of the a.express, no response.
I downloaded the latest a.express client, no difference.
airport is still on. it does not see the a.express.
    how to proceed?
Is it only possible ONCE to setup a.express the right way? I remember answering questions which i can not find anymore.
    Sorry for the long story,
    hope you can help,
    Rik

    oh oh oh oh........ :O
Found it.... before i connected the a.express with time capsule by a wire....does not help!
Solution is to make this wire connection between a.express and mac, then it's possible to reconfigure.
After this wire everything worked in 5 minutes.
    Anyway.... thanks for reading...

  • IMac does not see my external HD...but my MacBook Air does

I have a Toshiba 1TB HD that I partitioned into iMac and PC.  I run my backup on it with no problems.  Then I got a Time Capsule and set it up.  Now my iMac does not see my HD any more. But my Mac Book Air picks it up. You can see the 2 partitions on the MBA.  I also cant see it in my Disk Utilities and "Mount" is not clickable. I tried to use different USB ports as well as different USB cables.

What to do if your computer won't recognize a FireWire or USB device...
If the issue persists, try these steps:
       1. Shut down the computer.
       2. Disconnect all devices and all other cables, except the keyboard and mouse cable(s).
       3. Disconnect the computer from the power outlet and wait for 3 to 5 minutes.
       4. Plug the computer back in and turn it on.
       5. Reconnect the device(s) (one at a time if there is more than one) and test. Test with each port if you have more than one.

  • New Airport Extreme (2014) does not see USB Drive

Just fired up my new 2014 Airport Extreme and attached a Toshiba 3 TB USB Drive. My new (late 2013 iMac) does not see the new drive in Disk Utility.
The Extreme works in all other ways; ie, as a router, as a wireless node.
It came to me formated as a Windows drive, so I attached it directly to my MacBook Pro (which saw the drive) and reformated it as a Mac Drive (Journaled, GUILD). It showed up just fine on the MacBook Pro desktop.
When I reattach it to the Airport Extreme, it still does NOT show up in Disk Utility on the iMac.
    Help Please

When I reattach it to the Airport Extreme, it still does NOT show up in Disk Utility on the iMac.
That drive will not show up in Disk Utility on the Mac.....since the Toshiba hard drive becomes a network drive when it is attached the AirPort Extreme.
Disk Utility will not display a network drive. It will only display drives that are connected directly to your iMac via USB, FireWire, etc.
Check using AirPort Utility to see if the AirPort Exteme recognizes the drive.
Open AirPort Utility, click the AirPort Extreme icon, then click Edit
Click the Disks tab at the top of the next window that appears
The drive will appear here if it is recognized by the AirPort Extreme.
In the example below, my WD Drive is connected to the USB port on the AirPort Extreme.
