IBook doesn't see my MBP , Multiplayer network issues

I am trying to set up a Multi-player Warcraft game with my Son. He has an iBook and I have a brand new MBP. I see his iBook when I click network in the finder window, but he does not see mine when he tries. I can connect to his homefolder and HD.
When I go Command K and the window comes up (on his computer), I have know idea what my server address is to enter in the window. Where do I find that out?
The only way I have been able to get Warcraft, The Frozen Thone to work networked is to open his home folder through my computer and start up the game from his computer on mine and then he starts up the same game on his iBook. It gets a little choppy. I suspect it would be less choppy if the MBP was hosting the game.
We both have the games installed on each lap top but when opened individually, we don't see each other on the LAN when one of us creates a game to play. Any suggestions?

I am connecting via Airport Cards (built into each computer), although I also have an Airport Base Station running that allows me to also connect to my emac and for everyone to share the internet.
1. The problem is my MBP sees the ibook and can connect to it, but the ibook can't see the MBP to connect to it. I would like the MBP to host the game rather than the ibook (just for sheer processing power of the MBP). This may solve the choppiness. I hope. So, what do I do to get the iBook to see my MBP?
2. At this point the only way I get multiplayer to work in WC111/Frozen Thone under LAN is for both computers to run off of one installed game from the iBook. I would have thought that given that both computers have the game installed, we should be able to run WC111 off of each computer's own installed game when the computers are connected. However, When we start up each game in each computer and create a multiplayer game on one computer, the other computer does not see it at all.
Any thoughts welcome

  • IBook doesn't see my MBP

When I open my MBP Hard drive and click on the Network icon, I see my son's iBook and can connect easily.
However, when I try the same with the iBook, it doesn't see the MBP.
I've gone to Finder>Go>Cmd K where it asks for server address.
Where do I go from there?
How do I determine my MBP's address to enter in the iBook's "Connect to Server"?
    Any suggestions welcome

Yes I did have file sharing on and FTP access, with the firewall off.
What I didn't have on was under the Internet tab was Internet Sharing via Airport. When you click on that, it gives you this warning that you could affect your ISP and violate their rules. Which is why I probably didn't enable this feature in the first place.
Anyway I clicked on it at am now seeing the MBP via the iBook

  • XP/Pro box doesn't see other computers on network after running CiscoConnect on it

Got a new E4200 on September 13 to provide internet and networking to a small business network.
There are 2 wired computers, one an XP/pro and the other a Win 7/64 bit.  Both worked straight out of the box in that  both had access to each others' files after plugging them into the E4200.  Two other wireless computers were connected using CiscoConnect, one a Vista and the other a Win 7, and all was fine.  All computers were able to see each others' file. Also managed to get a wireless Canon printer working even though CiscoConnect wasn't able to find it.
After I realized I didn't run CiscoConnect on the XP, I did so using the USB key created on the Win7 box and the result was that the XP box doesn't see any of the other computers although all the other computers can see the XP files.  After uninstalling CiscoConnect on the XP and rebooting, the XP can't access the other computer files but it can still access the internet and the wireless Canon printer that CiscoConnect can't find.  Rebooting or powering off/on the router didn't change this state.
Would appreciate any ideas in getting the XP back into the network.

    Update on above problem:
Performed a System Restore on the XP and partial networking functionality was restored.  The XP box now sees the Vista and the XP Explorer can see all computers under  the Workgroup.  Probing the Win 7 computers from XP's explorer the XP returns the following: message

This message doesn't mean much to me as I have limited networking experience but somebody here might understand this clue.

  • Ibook doesn't see printer

I have an ibook G4 and it has been printing by connecting wirelessly through airport to my imac that has an HP5500 printer connected to the imac. For an unknown reason, it suddenly doesn't list that printer. I can still print if I carry the ibook to the printer and connect it by usb. When I try to add a printer, it doesn't find any other printers in the house so nothing comes up on the list. It used to have that printer listed as hp5500-imac. How can I get it to find that printer again?

Is there a provision to see and use the HP through Bonjour printing?
One of mine is accessed that way, via USB and AirPort express base.
My Epson connects that way, while an HP all-in-one refuses totally.
There are times when I connect by-wire since all features of the
Epson are not supported wireless. The printer's Utility, mostly.
There may be some other settings to consider; but I don't remember
what the others may be in this instance. Once my primary desktop is
on, and two different printers work from there, that about covers it
    for me. The other computers can use the Epson via AirPort Express;
including my iBook G4. For print head maintenance, I run a USB wire.
Perhaps someone with that model printer may have an idea; or maybe
you'd have to try installing a new printer driver if it may be corrupted.
Sorry to not have a definite answer to the situation. Sometimes, each
time you have to choose a printer (even if using a USB printer, wireless)
you have to be certain the printer is being selected. Not sure why it isn't.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Mac OS X 10.8 (Mountain Lion) doesn't see HP1200 Printer over network

Hopefully somebody can shed some light here -- I have an HP LaserJet 1200 on my ethernet LAN. Have never had any problems setting it up to print using earlier versions of Mac OS or ever Windows -- however as fas as Mountain Lion is concerned the printer doesn't exist. I've downloaded and installed the latest drivers from HP, restarted machine, etc to no avail. Can anybody tell me what I need to do to make 10.8 see the printer across the room?

Yes, XP box will print with no problems. The 'Properties' index was where I got the IP address from. Have looked at the 'ports' tab, have a port number and see that the protocol is 'Raw'. SNMP status is enabled and SNMP devide index is 1. Does this mean anything to you?
Yes it does. XP is using RAW Port 9100 to connect, which is called HP Jetdirect-Socket on OS X. Given that you have already tried creating a printer queue using HP Jetdirect and this did not work, there must be something else that you need to do.
It also sounds odd that the configuration page you printed does not show an IP address set in the printer. Does the Ethernet cable connect directly to the LJ1200, or is there some type of adaptor between the Ethernet and printer?

  • Time Machine doesn't see other macs on network

I'm just setting up Time Machine and the "Choose Backup Disk" doesn't show any options. I can see a clean hard drive through Finder, which I've set up on a Leopard G4 just for this purpose, but it doesn't appear. Do I need to set up anything on the G4 hard drive? Any suggestions, please?

Homeplugs as in Powerline? Yes, it can ABSOLUTELY affect the backup. I believe that many powerline protocols are better at one way transfer than bidirectional. Since I had a powerline set lying around, I attempted to see if I could improve on the wireless access. With the powerline adapters, I could not. I ended up reverting back to a direct ethernet connection to the Time Capsule. Can't beat 1000 Base-T.

  • Photosmart 5510 MacBook Pro with OS 10.9 doesn't see the printer on network

Keeps giving error message that the printer is offline....in the setup process it says set up successful but unable to locate to printer on the network....i didn't change anything, unless there was an automatic update done somewhere/sometime recently....it was working fine.  The self test on the printer for wireless passed everything!  iMac and iPad see it & print to it!!
    please help me!!
oh, yes, it shows up in the printer device list twice:  once as HP 5510 series when connected by USB and once as 77A267 with everything unknown but state IP connection....this is the one that says offline and unable to locate on the network.
I have tried all the steps listed in the forum proposals to no avail.

    Hi msdok,
I understand the printer is appearing offline although you can print from the iPad and iMac. I see from your message that you have already done some troubleshooting, but I am not sure what you have tried. I recommend using the steps below if you have not already.
    Reset Printing System
Click the Apple icon (   ), and then click System Preferences.
In the Hardware section, click Print & Fax/Scan. The Print & Fax/Scan  dialog box opens.
Right-click (or  Ctrl  +click) in the left panel, and then click Reset printing system…
Click OK to confirm the reset.
Type the correct Name and Password.
Click OK to reset the printing system. The Print & Fax dialog box shows no printer selected
Note: This will remove all printers in the print and Fax/Scan, any printer removed can be re-added later by clicking the plus (+) symbol.
    Repair Disk Permissions
On the Dock, click Applications, and then click Utilities.
    Double-clickDisk Utility.
Highlight your hard drive/partition on the left (by default this is "Macintosh HD").
Click the Repair Disk Permissions button at the bottom of the window.
Once the repair is complete, restart the computer.
When you add the printer, please ensure you are using the HP driver, not the AirPrint driver.
Select Add other Printer or Scanner
Select the printer you are adding and next to 'Use' you can the printer driver
If this does not resolve the issue, please take a look at the following document, 'Printer is offline' Message Displays on the Computer and the Printer Will Not Print.
    I hope this helps.

  • IBook doesn't "see" battery?

    Hello,
I purchased (about a year ago) a non-Apple battery for my dual-USB iBook, and before, it had been reading 11% capacity, but it would still hold its normal charge w/o the AC adapter.
Now, the battery indicator often has an "X" in it, but sometimes it has the lightning bolt and reads 0%.
I reset the PMU, and it hasn't seemed to help...
Is it the battery, the hard drive, or the connection between the two, and what should I do? (I do have an Apple store in my city and some free time this week, if that's what you recommend.)
    Thanks!

  • New Retina MBP Doesn't See Time Capsule

Just purchased a new retina MBP and have 2 probems with it.
    1.  It doesn't see my Time Capsule, when using Airport Utility it states that 'no configured airport base stations have been found'.  I also have an iMac which sees the TC ok.
    2.  I did a superduper backup of my old MBP but set up the new MBP as a new machine just importing the applications from the backup using Migration assistant.  Because of the problem in item 1 above I tried to start up using the external backup but failed. The new MBP cannot startup on the backup disk (Freeagent GoFlex 1TB) even though it's shown as an optional startup in the settings.  When trying to startup from it the machine just goes to a black screen and does nothing.
    So far, not too impressed.
    Regards

    1. Yesterday my mbp-r was unable to find my AP extreme base station in Airport Utility, even though the network seemed to be functioning perfectly. Rebooted the mbp-r (not painful given the speed), and now all is well with Airport Utility. Mysterious, but it worked.
    2. Does superduper clone the recovery partition? (I think I read somewhere it doesn't.) And if not, can you boot from such a clone? IIRC, Carbon Copy Cloner can produce a recovery partition.

I have prepared an 82 page book on iPhoto, ready to buy. There is a message over about half the photos saying "drag photo to place in background" as if it doesn't see the photo already there. • WES610N Doesn't See 5ghz Network

    Hello,
I have two WES610Ns running Firmware Version: 1.0.06 (latest) and they only see 2.4ghz networks. Performing a Wireless Network Site Survey or configuring the network manually doesn't see the 5ghz network. (Other devices are connecting to the router on 5ghz)
The router in question is an Asus RT-N56U running OpenWrt Barrier Breaker 14.07.
I have found a few posts with the same issues, but no solutions. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
    Thanks,
    John

Hi there, john_p_lynch! It's odd that you have experienced it with the two wireless bridges. Have you tried adjusting your router's wireless channel? I would suggest that you try reflashing the firmware of the wireless brigdes. After that, do a factory reset and reconfigure it. This is to make sure that it doesn't have a corrupted firmware.
It would also help connecting it with another dual band wireless router for further isolation.

  • Macbook doesn't see my network connection

My Macbook Pro (bought July 2012) doesn't see my wifi network at home but see others available. When I join other networks in different country (I travel a lot) and come home I can see it but when the mac goes to sleep I cannot connect again. Tried to find the help online, nobody seems to have the same issue. PC sees the network just fine.
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks

  • MBP doesn't see shared/Bonjour printers

My MBP (10.5.1) doesn't see any shared printer connected to a different machine. The only "shared" printer it will display is "Adobe PDF 8." My 3 other Macs (also 10.5.1) see, and print to, my shared printer, so I'm 100% sure the problem resides on the MBP.
I can do all other kinds of sharing on my MBP, i.e., screen sharing, remote login, etc. It just won't see other printers. I'm thinking maybe a printer port is blocked or something, but if it is I don't know how to unblock it. The drivers for the remote printers are installed on my MBP.
Any ideas on how to fix this issue?

    Harry,
Since I don't know what all you have tried, I don't know if you and I are seeing similar symptoms due to the same problem or not. I'm going to paste in the link to a thread that I started trying to solve a problem that I'm having. PAHU has been very helpful in making suggestions, and he has a recent one that I'll try when I get home this evening.

  • MBP doesn't see usb card reader

I have a MAUSB-10 card reader and my MBP doesn't see it. It's usb and was plugged into my xp box, but I'm trying to switch everything over to mac and this is a major stumbling block. Anyone have any ideas as to how I can get the MBP to see the reader..... cmd line force? anything!?!
    Thank you in advance.
    Doug

I just tried a Sandisk USB 2.0 Card Reader/Writer for Sony style memory stick. Model SDDR-170-A10M. My 15" MacBook Pro will not mount the memory stick on the desktop. I have a support e-mail into Sandisk, but I am wondering if there is anything I can do to make this work in the meantime?
I am seeing no Apple Mac OSX specific drivers. The device did come with a Windows driver software mini-cd-disc. Which I beleive I couldn't use on my internal CD drive anyway.
Any thoughts out there would be much appreciated!
BTW an SIIG, Inc. ExpressCard 11-in-1 R/W card does work! I just thought the Sandisk "thumb-drive" style R/W device would be a more universal way to work between computers.

  • MacBook 10.4.11 to MBP 10.8 - Setup Assistant doesn't see drives?

    All
I just posted this same info in an older thread but wanted to open an original post to ensure it got visibility. Thanks.
I have an older MB PPC running 10.4.11. I have been using SuperDuper to create bootable backups on an USB external drive (formatted to HFS+). Both the MB and the drive work as start up disks and all is in synch.
I purchased a new MBP and am upgrading from 10.7 to 10.8. Using Pondini's guides (thanks, http://pondini.org/OSX/Setup.html) I have tried the following methods but Setup Assistant never sees the source drive:
    1. Connect USB with SuperDuper backup to MBP => Setup Assistant doesn't see it (selecting as a disk)
    2. Start MB in Target Disk mode via Firewire connected to MBP => SA doesn't see it (selecting as disk)
    3. Start MB in regular mode, launch Migration assistant and select to another Mac, MBP select from another Mac.... Never saw the disk and suggested I needed to update Migration Assistant. Reran Software Update and confirmed on latest. No luck.
NOTE: I had originally setup up the new MBP with an account and did NOT do Setup Assistant to migrate data. Ran into the same problems when running Migration Assistant not seeing the disks in the three modes above. Followed Pondini's advice and did a clean reinstall of Mtn Lion => booted from a USB boot thumbdrive, erased the main drive with Disk Utility, booted off the install thumbdrive with no issues until the disk recognition problems again)
Is the main issue that I am trying to migrate from too old of an OS X version (e.g. 10.4.11)? I can't find any specifications that say this is not allowed but I can't get it too work. Any help and additional suggestions very much appreciated. I have a family member anxios to get their new machine.....

Thanks, that's solved it, an incredible time saver!
The, uh, next issue has to do with Windows clients not seeing the Mac's DHCP server. Mac clients seem fine.
