IBook Firewire Indigo 366MHz Restore CD's

I am looking to purchase a set of the restore CD's that would have came with an Indigo iBook 366MHz.
Does anyone have these? If you don't want to sell them, that's fine, but could you give me the part numbers off of the CD's (that way I know what to look for on eBay or elsewhere)? A picture may be nice as well.

Hello There the CD's that came with the firewire models (366 and 466) are grey and will say iBook on them. The numbers are: 691-2677-A for the install and 691-2676-A for the restore. Don't be fooled into buying any others as these are the ones you want. Cheers, Jane

  • LCD Problems w/ Indigo 366MHz

I have an Indigo iBook that I bought of off eBay.
I haven't had any problems with it until recently. I notice that certain shades of gray on the screen (notably the gray border on the OS9 start up "box" with the smiling Mac logo when it is starting up), and once it gets to the desktop, certain pixels "flash" green/blue. They are mostly all in the same area, but can be spread out depending on the number of colors that are shown (256 grays shows a LOT of them).
Would this be an LCD problem, an inverter problem, or a cable problem?
I'm leaning towards a cable problem, as the pixels that flash change whenever the monitor gets "re-initialized" (the screen blinks, changing color and/or resolutions). It is also only noticeable on certain colors.
I am comfortable with replacing the parts myself, I just don't want to waste money on something that will most likely not solve the problem.
If it matters, I am running OS 9.2.2 with 256MB of RAM, with a 10GB (stock, as far as I know) hard drive.

in general - if you change the whole display assembly, it will work with (nearly) any configuration. Once i came across a display that was only willing to work with a firewire Clamshell and refused to work in a 300MHz model, but i think that was bad luck because in three dozen of other switches that had been no problem.
It is nearly impossible to get spanking new display panels for the Clamshells because the 800x600 resolution has been long out of date.
So all you can get is a used one, and it is hard to tell if the one you're buying is good or not.
The display gets darker after some thousand hours of use because of the neon tube (CCFL) which lights up the display is getting older. You will see darker spots in the corners, and it will be no bright as before.
You can change the CCFL and renew your panel if it is stll working- i havn't tried this yet.
If it helps i can provide a link that contains my personal list of shops with spare parts:

    Hello,
I am in need of information pertaining to part numbers for my iBook's proper restore discs. It's 800Mhz, 32VRAM, A1005. I want to install and run OS 9 for games and day to day use.
Under the keyboard it says "800MHZ/640MB/40GB/COMBO"
here's what I am looking at:

    Hello,

Mac OS 10.2 with OS 9 would seem to be the correct restore disks to me.

  • Connecting g4 power mac to g4 ibook firewire 400

I cant seem to get my powermac G4 to recognize when i restart my ibook so i can transfer my hard drive files to my powermac using the firewire 400 connection
    PLEASE HELP!!!
tghe powermac g4 doesnt display the icon on the desktop and will not recognize the restart in migration assistant
    any ideas!!!

"When I restart my iBook G4 which is the host computer it automatically starts up in firewire mode, and my powermac G4 never starts up in firewire mode."
If your PowerMac G4 is the PCI Graphics model, it doesn't support being the target computer. The iBook would have to be the target computer, connected by FireWire cable to the PowerMac G4 tower (host). If your G4 tower is an AGP Graphics model or newer, it does support Target Disk Mode, and can be the target computer. Remember that only one computer - the target - is started up, while pressing/holding down the "T" key. You don't use a special keyboard command for the host computer.

  • Loud, Noisy  ibook clamshell indigo

I am going to give our old ibook G3 clamshell indigo to our housekeeper. I ran the Apple Hardware test on it and everything checked out OK. When the ibook is running, it makes a very noticeable whirring noise. It's the original hard drive. Is it the hard drive making the noise? Could it be a fan? I am not positive but I think it was always a little noisy. Were all of these old ibooks kind of noisy? I just don't want to give her a lemon.
    Thanks
    Tim

hello There, if your Clam is noisy it will be the hard drive (they don't have fans). It may be 'noisy' hard drive and perfectly O.K. or it could be a sign of it wearing out and needing replacement. I have two HDDs that are quite noisy and always have been (one Hitachi and one Western Digital) but other HDDs that are virtually silent.

  • 3rd Gen. iPod -- can't mount with FireWire, can't restore

When my 3rd gen. iPod is plugged into an Apple computer by USB, it mounts but it won't charge. When it's plugged in by Firewire, it charges but won't mount.
When it's plugged into a Windows computer by Firewire, it charges but won't mount. When it's plugged in by USB, it doesn't charges and doesn't mount.
This was tested using multiple cords with the same results.
The problem seems to be with the software currently installed on my iPod. But I cannot restore the software in OS X, because the iPod won't mount with Firewire (which is necessary for a restore). And I can't restore it in Windows because it won't mount at all (I think it's because I originally formatted it on an Apple).
    What can I do?

I am having the same problem with my 3rd generation iPod. I've made several posts here just to discover MANY more with the same problem.
I did get one reply that was helpful:
There is a cable available through the apple store
    http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore.woa/wo/2.RSLID?mco=5 2A56EB0&nplm=M9688G%2FA
It plugs into the bottom of your iPod and has two cords: 1 firewire and 1 USB. Plug both cables in to their respective ports and you have a fully functioning iPod.
This is a klunky fix but it works and is cheaper than a new iPod.
I'm guessing that the June update screwed up the way our iPods communicate to their host computers, knocking out firewire.
Two years ago I had a 1st generation iPod that crashed after an update. Fortunately I had an extended warranty and was able to get a new one at no charge. Interestingly, there was another update that would have fixed the older iPod. I'm hoping for another update like that.
I can hardly believe that Apple would be so sinister as to sabotage everyones iPods in order to get them to buy new ones but it sure feels like it.
It looks like its time for a sixth 'R' !
    Thanks!

  • I cannot start iBooks. I cannot delete iBooks. I cannot restore, from TM, iBooks. How do I fix this.

I went to explore iBooks. I created and added some books. Didn't like it.  Tried to delete the books I added. They did not delete. Now I have an IBooks that will not start. When I tried to delete iBooks, the system said no, it was needed by OS. I tried to restore it from TM and got the same response.
How do I fix this? I really expect Time Machine to restore files, any files.

  • IBook (FireWire) won't output to TV

Since my previous topic has already been archived and I still haven't solved the problem, I'm going to ask again.
Basically, once I connect the iBook to the TV (a SONY Bravia KDL-32S2400) with the AV cable, nothing happens. The TV doesn't recognize any input at all and stays completely black. I'm wondering if there is something I have to do in Mac OS X before the iBook will output video/audio to my TV.
This is the AV Cable I'm using:

I've tried clicking "Detect Displays" in System Preferences as well, but that doesn't do anything either, and there isn't exactly much else to do there:

  • Brand New iBook + FireWire, no  Data Transfer

Using Startup Assistant, I tried to transfer data from my old PowerMac G4 (10.3.9), but it doesn't restart as required while holding down the "T" key -- it goes thru the regular start-up process instead. Also tried alternative FireWire. Does a firewall or lack thereof on the old computer matter? Need the data!

elf, Welcome to the discussion area!
Which Power Mac G4 do you have? Is it compatible with FireWire target disk mode?

  • Disk cloning on non-FireWire clamshell iBook?

Is there any utility that will allow me to clone the entire contents of my iBook's 6GB disk (which is about 80 per cent full) onto a networked Mac with more space, then copy it all back to the iBook when I've fitted it with a larger HD?
My iBook is the 366MHz 'special edition' Graphite one and it doesn't have a FireWire port so I can't use Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper! as they both require an internal or FireWrire drive to copy to.
Really hoping I won't have to reinstall everything from scratch...

When I replaced the hard drive in my iMac 350 MHz, I faced the same dilemma.
    My solution:
I had each user log into their account on the iMac 350 and then remotely access their account on another Mac on the network.
Then the user used drag and drop to copy their /Users/username folder (from the old drive) into their account on the other Mac.
After everything was backed up, I replaced the drive.
Installed OS X and all the upgrades.
Installed the 3rd party applications we use.
I created all the same users with the same short username.
Again I had each user log into their account (account on the iMac 350) and then remotely access their account on another Mac on the network.
Then the user used drag and drop to copy their original /Users/username folder (from the other Mac) into their account on the iMac 350. This replaces the default contents of the new /Users/username folder.
Then the user logged out and back in. They had access to all their old files.
After ensuring that all their files were working as before, I put the original old drive in a FireWire enclosure and attached it to one of my other Macs.
I used Disk Utility to erase the old drive. I used the option to write zeroes so that sensitive data would be overwritten.

  • Indigo ibook sleep mystery

Hi gang, i know this has been discussed here before, but i couldn't find a solution that worked.
i have an insomniac indigo iBook (FireWire). It has the latest firmware installed. It is loaded with OS 9.1 and OSX 10.4.6 (via Xpostfacto).
When running on battery power, the ibook operates normally. Closing the lid puts it to sleep as expected. However, on AC power the machine will sleep only a moment when the lid is closed, then it wakes for a moment, sleeps for a moment, wakes, on and on. This will also occur if the machine is on battery power, sleeping with the lid closed, and is then plugged in. It wakes immediately and begins the sleep/wake cycle. There are no USB devices attached at all. I have checked the aiport card and keyboard to make sure they are seated properly. I have cleared the NVRAM, PRAM, and OS X pref files mentioned in another post here.
Note that the symptoms are the same when i boot into OS 9! ***?

loose. I am still not sure if the problem was fixed
by not having power to the motherboard for a day and
a half, or by the loose cable. Taking all power from
the iBook for a few hours might not be enough because
it has an electrolyte capacitor that retains power
    for hours.
First I would try to take power away for a day or two
and see if that helps. The reason the connection on
mine was loose is probably because someone dropped it
down 2 flights of stairs (the iBook was fine, I
can't say as much for the person who dropped it :~)

    Thank you Sir!
It would appear that the power board was the culprit. I removed the keyboard and top casing, but not all the way down to the power board. I removed the screw above it, pushed down firmly on the area, replaced the screw and tightened it all up.
Since reassmebly, the iBook sleeps normally when closed under AC power! The only caveat is that it sometimes wakes when jostled (again, under AC) but it goes back to sleep normally immediately. These symptoms provide more evidence of an AC board issue. I know a lot of folks have had issues with this board over the years.
    Thanks again!

  • IBook restore software

Need help finding the correct restore software for an early '04 iBook 1.07GHz pre-loaded w/ 10.3.3 new and slot-loading ComboDrive. I purchased it used w/out software. The following is available on eBay:
+You're looking at a set of Apple iBook G4 software install/restore DVDs. (Make sure your iBook is capable of reading DVDs before purchasing this!) Comes with Mac OSX Version 10.3 -Panther, OS 9.2 Classic Support, and all the original software that came with an iBook G4- Games, AppleWorks, iPhoto, iMovie, etc. Should come with iLife '04 or '05 as well (GarageBand, iMovie 4, iDVD 4, iTunes, etc.), Apple Hardware Test, etc. This is essential if you're re-selling or restoring your iBook! Should work with the earlier iBook G4s. This will include a User's Guide and possibly an Apple car sticker or two as well.+
Is this the correct restore software?

    Hey buzzworms,
Don't know what he deal is. They gave me no hassle. I just stated I bought the computer used without disks, and they said OK. Sorry you have had no luck, but I WOULD try again until they get it right. Seems 60 bucks is a little steep. Previous owner said they were included, but she took it to an Apple store and the wiped it out and restored it (why she couldn't do it is beyond me). They did not ship them with the laptop, though. Oh, well, $34.32 wasn't too bad. Good luck and don't give up...

  • Missing ibooks PDFs after restore

After the latest updates, my iPad began running quite slowly: keyboard freezing up or massive delay, etc.  After searching these boards, it seemed that the best option was to backup and restore to default, then restore from backup if that fixed the problem.  It did.  When I did the restore from backup, all my apps were there, everything is good.
However, I had hundreds of PDFs saved in iBooks that did not restore.  I cannot find them on my computer, iTunes, etc.  These are not purchased books, rather PDFs I've downloaded over the years.  I am devastated.  And irritated.
    Thoughts?

PDFs in the iBooks app are not included in a backup, the restore would look to pick them up from the Books part of your iTunes library (iBooks app if using a Mac with Mavericks or Yosemite on it). Prior to starting the restore did you do File > Devices > Transfer Purchases to copy them over to your computer - and if using Mac with Mavericks/Yosemite on it did you then do File > Move Books From iTunes in its iBooks app ? If you did then they should be on your computer
