IBook G3 (A1005) Sound Problem

Aight guys. I seem to have a problem with my iBook G3. I'm running 10.2.8 (Haha No money for tiger D:) And the sound started flickering on and off at random (Left, right, quit) and now it has failed all together. I have checked if it was muted, if something got randomly unchecked in the preferences, and now my last resort. You guys. I have opened the keyboard using the two tabs at the top and if I'm correct the wire that is hiding behind the foil to the left is the sound cable. From the view it looks perfectly fine and untouched. I treat my iBook like a baby (No scratches, drops, water spills etc.) and It just confuses me. Could my iBook be growing old? Time for a new mac? Thanks. -Lucas

Have you tried _resetting the PRAM_?
The PRAM stores the speaker volume setting, so resetting it may help.

  • IBook (Dual USB) Sound Problem

    The item:
    iBook Dual USB, 800MHz, 32 VRAM, CD-ROM,
partitioned HD with OS 9.2.2 & Tiger.
I have installed OS 9.2.2 on the smaller partition via FireWire using Apple's OS 9.2.1 install CD + OS 9.2.2 Updater from Apple's website.
Sound works perfectly in OS X environment.
The problem - OS 9 environment (Booted into OS9)
Great 'Bong" when it boots - BUT - NO SOUND after that. None. Silence. No System sounds. No AOL login sound. No iTunes sound.
All 'sound' related settings are properly adjusted. Nothing is 'muted'. Platinum System sounds are selected. Finder menu blinks to indicate that there should be a noise - but all is deadly silent.
Control Strip Sound menu slider is almost at bottom. Adjusting it UP results in menu blink - and it returns to it previous position.
Sound volumne slider in Sound Control Panel 'snaps' back to the far left when moved to the right.
Sound Control Panel / Input menu shows the following warning:
"The settings for the sound input source cannot be adjusted becasue the device is in use by another application."
I have no other sound-related software installed. No device using the sound port is present. It's a 'naked' OS 9.2.2 install + AOL 5. It acted the same way BEFORE I installed AOL.
What must I do to make this little beauty make the proper sounds, please... ?
Your successfull suggestion will have me singing your praises.

  • Sound problems with movie

I just purchased the movie "Overboard" in HD. The movie video plays ok, but the sound keeps going in and out.
I don't understand why this is happening. My music plays ok and I'm not having any other sound problems with my
computer.  I am running Itunes on a Windows 8.1 desktop computer (Gateway).
I couldn't figure out how to re-download it or repair it.
If anyone can help, I'd appreciate it!
    Thanks!

  • Upgraded ibook g3 A1005. What to do now?

    Hello everyone.
I bought a used ibook g3 a1005 600mz from ebay, and I bought the following replacement parts for it
-CD read write DVD read drive,
    -512 RAM chip,
    -120GB harddrive from seagate
-Restore cds for iMac, with 4 software restore iMac cds with mac OS versions 10.1.3, 9.2.2, and a Worldbook media CD version 6.0.2 and and an apple hardware test cd for iMac. The reason I bought these is because I read in other blogs that you could use these cds to restore an ibook g3, even though the cds are for an iMac, because they are 'generic'.
I have just replaced those parts and I have switched the computer on. It has a briefcase-looking icon (similar to the finder icon found on an iMac) that is blinking. I tried to run the software restore cds but they could not be run. First, a message soon after loading the cds 'the built-in memory has detected a problem, please contact a service technician for assistance' message comes. When you click on ok, it brings you to a box, where it says that the disk 'restore image' is the restoration disk and cannot be restored'. When I click on 'switch disk', I get a message 'the imac restore cd' is the configuration source disk and cannot be restored' Even when I install the apple hardware cd, it says that the cd does not support this system.
I have a feeling that it may be because of the fact that I do not have the correct restoration cds for the ibook g3. I looked for them over the internet but could not find them. Or is it because I have a new hard-drive?
Since I have a dvd drive, and I have a new hard-drive, what should I do to have the lap-top up and running? What operating system should I install? Panther, Jaguar or Tiger?
Is there anyone who has replaced the hard-drive and ram on this specific ibook g3 and successfully installed the operating system after replacement? Which is the best OP for this kind of ibook? I don't mind not having the 9.2.2 version, since I don't think I shall need it. Please let me know the steps you took.
    Thanks in advance.

    Thanks Ronda,
Let me list what I did to have my little ibook up and running:
    1. I bought the original software restores that came with the ibook g3 from ebay. Without these, it shall be a nightmare (see below)It is a set of 6 cds listed above.
    2. Run both the OS 9.2.2 and the OS X software restores. Do not avoid running the OS 9.2.2 (See below)
    3.
    a) Once you have completed the download, use OS 9 as your start-up OS and try and log onto the internet. If you have wireless, then this might be the best option.
    b) Once you enable wireless (via airport), then you can switch your start-up OS to OS X. This is because, trying to use the OS 10.2.1 just downloaded to get onto the internet, either via ethernet or wireless shall be impossible because you don't have the updates 10.2.8. Now, I initially downloaded the updates from the Apple website (called stand-alone installers) and burned them into CDs to work around the problem of not having internet, from my iMac and was successful in downloading the 10.2.4 update combo, but when I tried to download the 10.2.8 combo or the 10.2.6 update, it brought the dreaded message with a red exclamation point on the hard drive stating that it could not be downloaded, listing the MB of the updates, even though the hard-drive was virtually empty!
    c) Once the internet is running and the wireless is on, then switch to OS 10.2.1 as your start-up OS and go to software updates under system preferences. The downloads shall take a couple of minutes, but you shall now be able to access the internet via your ethernet cable and wireless (airport) with your OS 10, which now shall have the 10.2.8 update.
    4. Get a full retail version of Tiger. (ibook G3 does not support Leopard) This is because, the Jaguar OS shall be a hindrance when surfing the web, because a lot of the newer browsers (Firefox 3, Safari are not supported under Jaguar.
Hopefully, these steps shall save you the many hours of aggravation and numerous burnt cds for stand-alone installers (and surfing the web and getting conflicting information)

  • I have sound problem in My Cq40-144TU Laptop

    Hi,
I have Cq40-144tu laptop. i am't hearing sound from internal speaker but sound is hearing from headphone. I have configured my system many time. Last got to shop and they also format it and reconfigured but still this problem is showing.
But I was hearing sound from speaker when i chat in gtalk and then i heared sound from window media player and other application also for 5 to 10 second only. every time some text is recieved i hear sound for 5 to 10 second.
please tell me what is problem in My Laptop. i have window 7 ultimate operating system.
    Please help me sir

What sound problem - no sound on anything, no sound on some apps ?
Have you got notifications muted ? Only notifications (including games) get muted, so the iPod and Videos apps, and headphones, still get sound.
Depending on what you've got Settings > General > Use Side Switch To set to (mute or rotation lock), then you can mute notifications by the switch on the right hand side of the iPad, or via the taskbar : double-click the home button; slide from the left; and it's the icon far left; press home again to exit the taskbar. The function that isn't on the side switch is set via the taskbar instead : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4085
And for future info typing in all capitals is considered to be SHOUTING

  • Desperately need some help!! iTunes/Quicktime/iChat/Sound problems....

So, yesterday, I was online, on google video, and when I pressed play on the video, there was no sound, but the video worked...the same was true on every video site i checked. My computer volume was at max, and I even tested the speakers to make sure they were on, and they indeed were.
I thought that was odd...but then the problems really started.....
After that, I clicked on my iChat icon. It bounced once, and did not open. The same thing happened when I clicked on iTunes. 1 bounce, and then nothing. I checked to make sure all of my iTunes mp3 files were on my computer....they indeed are all still here, bit nothing I can do opens iTunes. I've run disc utilities, and disc repair...according to that, everything is peachy-keen on my computer.....but iChat and iTunes STILL will not open, and there is still no sound on anything.
Now, i'm leaning towards the archive and install option....or even just backing up what I want to save, wiping the drive, and starting from scratch.....but i'd really like to not have that happen.
(and, as a side question, if all I want to save are images, several documents, and many mp3 files, would everything be okay if I just backed them up on an external drive, and then loaded them back on to my computer after reinstalling OS X?)
Sorry about the length of this, but I am at my wit's end, and I have no idea what to do.

by third-party, do you mean things I installed that are not manufactured by mac? If that is the case, I have microsoft office, Smart Music, Flip4mac, and Senuti.
I got rid of Flip4Mac to see if that affected my sound problems, but it did not. So, as of now, my problem remains the same...

  • Sound problems on ProBook 6550b, running on Win 7 Pro x32bit..

I have been getting very similar sound problems on my notebook as posted by most: internal speakers work on original Audio HD drivers, but there is no sound when I connect external speakers or headphones. I up-graded the audio drivers to IDT HD Audio and I get sound coming from external speakers or headphones, but nothing from internal speakers.
I have tried everything from reporting the problem on public forums, live help, and done this or that, but nothing changes. It's so very clear to me that it has to do with audio drivers, which don't seem to work appropriately to cover all aspects of sound output.
I also, often, get this loud, weird, irritating noise and a frozen PC when I am playing music with the notebook, while on the internet. The best I do is not to do both at the same time. I have seen similar problems on blogs, but tangible solutions are NOT offered!!!! Please help...

Audio Switching coudl be due to several reason. if you have tried latest audio drivers and latest Video drivers from hp.com, i suggest you to get audio board replaced for your computer.
    Hope it helps.

  • Any resolution to the sound problem?

I have been having the same sound problem with my Mid 2010 Mac Pro tower ever since I got it.  I have been in touch with Apple and have been told that they are familiar with the problem, but that they are still working on a fix.  The problem is that I have external speakers, and every time I shut down and then start up again, I have to go to preferences and physically change the sound output to go to the speakers.  I have also been tole that the Mac is supposed to sense the external speakers and go directly to them.
Is there anybody else out there with this problem, and has been able to resolve it?
    Thank you.

I have a 2010 Mac Pro and use the stereo line out jack in the back of my machine for my speakers with no problem.  I don't recall any problems setting it up.  But check the Audio MIDI Setup (in your utilities folder) to see if you can set it from there (should be able to).  Not sure why the preference wouldn't stick.  And I don't believe there is automatic detection of an attached sound output device where the sound preference switches to that (unless maybe the front jack which I never use).

  • Sound Problems on iPad: how to fix, easy [video]

    Hi dear iPad user,
Most people will, eventually, have sound problems: the cause can be complex as a 'miss-behaved' app that messes the sound engine or as simple as the iPad being forgotten on Mute/Volume Down.
I used to help family and friends to fix their iPads' sound problems by sending them 'text' instruction steps... lots of times they ended up calling me on the phone...
    So I made a video (short: 1m40s):
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FjBP-Ncj_fE
    It shows:
how to unmute the sound (even if the side-switch locks the rotation of the screen)
    how to put volume up
how to close all the apps (in the case there is an App messing with the sound system)
how to reboot the iPad (ultimatelly fixes hard cases of messed sound system)
What it won't fix: if you have a hardware problem...
If you do all the steps and you get NO SOUND AT ALL, please, try also checking if you car listen sounds using a HEADPHONE (you know are working conditions). If you can listen to sounds in the headphone but no sound at all in the iPad's built in speaker, well, there might be a hardware problem and you should look for help on an Apple Retail Store or other official technical support available at your location.
    Hope this helps!
    Everson.

UPDATE: fixing iPad Sound after iOS 7
    http://youtu.be/SDf1LDcE95Q
    (1min 36sec)
    It covers the basics:
    checking side-switch / mute / "Control Center"
    volume all up
    ...and also the worst cases:
closing all apps (for rare cases when a single app might render the sound system instable)
    rebooting the iPad
So, don't get desparete: try the things in the video.
There are people who reported having forgotten an audio-bluetooth connection activated with a turned-off sound-system or speakers... or forgot Air-Play turned on... so be sure you disengage bluetooth and/or airplay.
On the 'hardware side', dirty dock connector (30 pin) can make the iPad 'think' it is connected to external audio - if so, cleaning it with a dry toothbrush can fix. Also, moisture in the headphones connector can make the iPad switch to 'headphones' even without headphones connected, making it silent: check if you can hear things with headphones plugged in - if so, try gently inserting and removing headphones a few times and check if you get sound back to iPad's speakers alone.
Good luck to everybody! Audio problems are quite common - fontunately they are easy to fix.

  • Please Help - sound problem

After reformatting my laptop and re installing xp pro everything works but my sound,,, before anyone suggesting I should renew my sound drivers or even update my BIOS let me mention that I have already taken those stept, the Mic works but I have no sound coming out of the laptop.....
    Any Ideas????

    Hi Nick,
Sorry for the long delay I only just noticed your post. Easily done if you post in the middle of another thread.
To diagnose your sound problem the best approach is to systematically check (and isolate) each possible problem area until the culprit is found. For sound problems follow the sequence :-
    1. Check Hardware. If you have a manual control check that it is turned fully on (this may be a wheel or knob somewhere on your notebook). There is no point carrying on if this is turned down/off.
    2. Check Software. This is where the fun begins.
2.1 Check the sound properties (available from Control Panel) and make sure that the MUTE box is not ticked.
2.2 Check the individual volume levels shown on the sound properties box. Set them all to maximum.
2.3 Select Device Manager (from Control Panel) and check the entry for Sound/audio devices. Select your sound device and click the 'troubleshooting' option. Follow the on-screen checks.
2.4 If you still have no sound deinstall the sound device (from ADD/REMOVE hardware) and reboot. The system should detect the sound device and re-install it)
2.5 Finally download and reinstall the correct device drivers for your sound devive from the Toshiba web-site.
2.6 If you still have no sound after all of the above then I would recommend a complete re-install of your system from the Toshiba Recovery CDs. and if that does not correct the problem then you will need to take it to a Service Agent for them to sort it out.

  • USB Sound Problem

I'm having a problem with my Bose USB sound system that has just recently developed. The system is plugged directly into the back of my Mac Pro desktop so it's not going through any hubs or secondary systems. When I first start my computer the sound works just fine. But after about 10 to 15 minutes of use the sound stops completely - as if the sounds have been turned off. If I boot into Windows 7 using Boot Camp, the sound system there works just fine with no problems at all, so I do not believe this issue is hardware related but is something associated with OS X.
This all started recently after installing Tinker Tool and then realizing that their latest version is not compatible with Snow Leopard. I followed their directions and told Tinker Tool to restore the previous settings and then I removed it from my system. Now, I'm having this USB sound problem. I think it's highly probable to be the cause of my problem.
Is there anyway to reinstall the USB drivers in OS X without reinstalling the entire OS? Or, is there something else I can try to restore the USB function to Snow Leopard? Many thanks for any tips or suggestions.

    They are plug and play.
I did try unplugging all of the USB devices and then powered off the computer and unplugged it for about 5 minutes as I heard that that sometimes solves USB problems. However, upon reconnecting the problem returned. All other USB devices seem to be working normally - it's only the Bose sound system. I tried plugging it into a different USB port in the back of the computer but the problem continued after about 10 minutes. Therefore, I am convinced this is not hardware related.
At this point I am thinking I need to reinstall OS X Snow Leopard to undo whatever Tinker Tool damaged. Is it possible to just replace the USB drivers in OS X without reinstalling everything?

  • A30 sound problem

have tried all drivers from toshiba web sites, uk, canada, europe etc but cannot get sound to work on my satellite a30, model no PSA33E 7C3F3 EN, fresh install of xp had 4 drivers missing, ati video, smbus, modem and sound, only drivers from canada site worked for video smbus and modem, xp states sound working properly but no sound from speakers or headphone socket and have checked all volume levels (on full nothing muted), any ideas ???

    Hi,
Just to inform you that my problem was solved by itself :)
I've reformatted my laptop and installed the original XP Pro SP2 again by following the instructions.
Sound problem was solved automatically, no chipset utility installation required..
The sound problem was probably caused due to missing Microsoft KB835221 update for SP1, and KB888111 for SP2, which then was solved with the original latest XP..
