IBook G3 airport card not finding networks

i have an iBook G3 that i have just put an airport card in, after installing the airport card it shows the card is installed but no networks have been found. i did some research online and it said to check the antena, make sure the card is inserted all the way, and to try and reset the PRAM (by pressing OPT,CMD,P,R during bootup) after clearing the PRAM it showed networks but when trying to connect to the networks it says their was a problem connecting and to retry. when i go to try and connect again the airport card shows that it can't find any networks. Are there any other ideas i should try or what could be the problem?

Hi, and welcome to Apple Support Communities.
The iBook G3's original AirPort Card is not capable of handling encryption beyond WPA. It will not work with WPA2-encrypted networks.
Also, it needs a network that supports the 802.11b standard used by the original AirPort Card. If you are using a router, it needs to be set to mixed mode (b/g or b/g/n) in order for the original AirPort Card to access the network.

  • Airport Extrem not finding networks

I have an Ibook G4 with an airport extrem card. For about 6 months I used it with several public wirless networks , at university and cafes around town. One fine day, after not using it for about a month, it simply stopped finding networks. I turn it on via the menu at the top of the screen, but it simply does not find any network , not even ones that it used to connect to.
I made no changes in the configuration before it stopped working.
The Apple troubleshooting suggests that if you don't see a wireless network, try clicking Scan Again. I do not have this option, networks just appear in the menu once they are located.
In all these places ,the wirless if working for other people, siting next to me, so it is not a problem with the networks themselves.
Any ideas? should i take of the keyboard and check that the antena is located correctly?

ok , ill try it. Thanks.
Do you think I should also uninstall the software , or just start with removing the card and putting it back in place?
Or is there any thing else that needs doing?

  • Airport card not seeing networks after IP address clash

Hi - I have a wireless network that works fine, just reset it up again and my two mac laptops connect perfectly well to it, as they always did. The reason I set it up again was that my desktop intel mac pro (my main computer) was giving an error message, that another device on my network had the same IP address as my Airport card, and that it therefore couldn't connect to my wireless network (which has been set up so that the various devices are given their own IP addresses automatically in Bridge Mode). I have never seen this before. I repeatedly tried 'renew DHCP lease' in system preferences - it had no effect so I set up the network again from scratch to see if that would help. Still nothing. The mac pro cannot see either of the two Airport Extremes in my network using airport utility and nor will it connect to the new network when I put in the name and password - again, I have tried repeatedly. The Airport icon in system preferences is orange.
The airport card has never reported any problems and Apple hardware test (as well as the programme that came with Applecare) indicates that it's working normally. There are also no hardware problems with the Mac Pro according to the same tests.
Does anyone on this forum know what I can do to connect the Mac Pro to the wireless network? (I don't have the option of trying to use it as the computer that sets up the network, as it's located a long way from the telephone connection, so that is done using Airport Utility via one of the laptops).

Deleting the keychain with Keychain access worked.
I still can't click on options nor see preferred networks, but now the new keychain I made is finally staying around after reboot and auto connecting me to my home network.
Thank you for the help. I did accidentally delete ALL my keychains, but that's just as well as I probably had other clutter in there as well.

  • Airport card not joining Networks with passwords?

    Hi everyone,
I'm having this problem where my computer WILL NOT let me join any network with a WPA password or WEP.
It only works when I take off the password to my router, and I don't want people stealing my internet.
I installed every update I could possibly do, but still nothing.
    Does anyone have any ideas?

I used a decent password and it was converted to abunch of random numbers, I entered those in three possible ways
(without spaces, with spaces, with all the letters not capitalized, with them all capitalized, etc)
and it STILL WON'T LET ME IN!!!!!
on the WPA whenever I put the password in it does the same, won't let me in.
It had WPA2 which was WPA compatible.
    and it's a belkin N+ router.

  • Airport card not showing up - more data

Powerbook G4 FW800, now running 10.3.9 Update from post below.
Installed the Airport Extreme card, but it doesn't show up in the system profiler. I've done various re-installs of the card, PRAM and open firmware resets, and updated the OS to 10.3.9 (from 10.3.2). But I notice something strange:
On my iMac G5 (10.4) that has no Airport card installed, the system profiler doesn't see the card that isn't there (normal), but when I open Internet Connect, in the top "tray" along with Modem, Bluetooth, and Ethernet I see an "Airport" icon. Select it, and I get an Airport setup but is greyed out - OK. In the System Preferences > Network, the status shows Airport Not Turned On. Again, no airport card installed. Internet Connect version 1.4
But on the PB, there is NO Airport icon in the Internet Connect (Version 1.3) tray, and in System Preferences > Network, Airport doesn't show in the status. And Internet Connect V1.4 won't run on on 10.3.9. Tried that.
Is this an OS 10.3 to 10.4 difference? In 10.4 if the card were installed, I would have the opportunity to turn it on. In 10.3 on the PB, I don't even have the opportunity to turn it on.
Thoughts? I'm wondering if it isn't a hardware issue, but a software issue. I could re-install the original OS S/W, and then upgrade from there to 10.3.9

Saabguy, Welcome to the discussion area!
Don't start a new thread. This makes troubleshooting even more difficult because people that read this thread have no idea what was suggested in your other thread. Therefore you will get the same suggestions here that you got in "Airport Card not installed - sigh".
The difference you are seeing has nothing to do with your problem.

Use Software Update to update your OS to last version of Leopard.  Install all the other updates that goes along w/it.  Don't remember if any Airpport updates for Leopard.
After the installations, repair permissions and restart your computer.
    Please post back your results.

  • Airport Card Not Installed Error on Macbook Pro 13

I've a Macbook Pro 13 less than 1year old. 3 days ago, I attempted to update my iPod Touch 3G from 3.1.2 to 4.2.1. While in the process, my iPod froze and I forced quitted iTunes.
On the next boot, Airport was off. And no matter what I did, it didn't turn on. I fixed this with a reinstall of the OS. Yesterday night, I turned off Airport to save power. Today morning onwards, I see the warning "Airport Card not Installed".
    What could be the problem?

No idea, but here is a thread on this very subject and many suggestions which have worked for some people:

  • Why can my iBook on my iPad not find the book 'Cascadia's Fault' on iTunes?

Why can my iBook on my iPad not find the book 'Cascadia's Fault' on iTunes?

You could use the Apple Link Maker to create a link and email to those who say they cannot find it, may also have 50 free codes to distribute to aid your marketting, if you have a website, use the link maker to create a logo a insert into your  website/FB/Twitter etc
Its your product .. you have to market it and make it as visible as possible to others, if  you do thatwell and it sells in buckets.. Apple will be happy to move it up the list.

  • IBook G4 airport card sees networks, won't connect?

This iBook was connected before, I just restored it, updated all I could (wired) but now won't connect to my wireless network. I have a good signal with other computers and iPhones.

I also have a similar problem. My AirPort Extreme card sees the network, and even connects to it. But every 10 minutes or so, it will seem like it's not connected. At those times, I can't load pages or use internet for anything on my computer, but other devices can.
The only way for me to make it work again is by deactivating AirPort, and then activating it again. Then it will work for a short period of time, and I'll have to repeat the process again. Any idea on why it does this? The card is well connected and all, and it only started doing this a day or two ago, it was fine before that.
    I'm running an iBook G4 with OS X 10.3.9.

  • "airport card not installed" and can't open network preferences

I was earlier having the problem of no ip address and not connecting to the Internet and self assigning an ip address.  I tried everything to fix that and on my last attempt I turned off the airport and shut down but now it says I dont have an airport card installed. How do I fix this?

Your running snow leopard which may be the case. Probably not but i recommend doing a clean install of snow leopard if the problem perrsists.
Also I suggest going to the apple store anyways. I personally enjoy finding help on the forums but sometimes if you book in advance going to the apple is a whole lot simpler.
You might also want to try upgrading your operating system to Lion or Mountain Lion which may fix the problem.
Yet another option would be to open up the laptop (Voids your warranty) and check is the airpot card is loose and maybe not being recognized.

  • Airport Card not picking up networks...Someone please help!!

Alright heres the deal. I just bought my first MAC, a Mac Pro With 2 2.66 Xeon processors, yes this thing should fly the space shuttle(you'd think). But why does Apple not have a preinstalled Airport Card in their top of line unit? Who knows. Anyway, I went to the Apple store and purchased one and installed it, no problem. It should work, right? WRONG. My nightmare has started. The computer definitely reads that the card is there. ID and all. But I am not seeing and IP address in the dialog box/tab TCP??. I have called Apple Care to no avail, folks at the store, don't have a clue, so i thought i'd give this forum one more shot at the hopes that someone here will know how to configure this thing and get me on line. NAturally i am writing this from my trusty ol' PC...which never fails me, btw. FYI, the other two computers in my houselhold, this trusty Sony Viao and an iMAC laptop, have no problem at all picking up network signals. And folks come over all the time with their MAC laptops and never have a problem accessing our network..so why can't my MAC PRO? Is there a driver to install, and if so why did it not come in the box with the Card? Someone please help me out before i take this thing back and get a PC. I am on the verge. Thanks.
MAC PRO   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   Self Installed Aiport Card

    Let's double-check your AirPort settings:
To setup AirPort for High-Speed Cable Internet connectivity:
System Preferences > Network > Show > Network Port Configurations
    - Verify that an AirPort option exists. If it does not, click "New" to create one. (Note: If you are unable to create an AirPort configuration, the AirPort card in your computer either doesn't exist or it is not recognized.)
    - Verify that AirPort is "On" (checked)
    - Verify that AirPort is at the top of the list. If it isn't, you can drag it to the top.
Systems Preferences > Network > Show > AirPort
    AirPort tab
    - By default, join: Automatic
    TCP/IP tab
    - Configure IPv4: Using DHCP
    - Configure IPv6: Automatically or Off
    Proxies tab
    - Configure Proxies: Manually
    - Select a proxy server to configure: <All proxies should be unchecked unless you specifically require a proxy for Internet access.>
    - Exclude simple hostnames (unchecked)
    - Bypass proxy settings for these Hosts & Domains: <leave blank>
    - Use Passive FTP Mode (PASV) (checked)
