IBook G3 cannot connect to WPA (Panther 10.3.9)

Hi there...
My iBook G3 366Mhz Clamshell with Airport and Mac OS X 10.3.9 cannot connect to my WPA wireless network.
I believe I am all set to connect to wireless WPA, but whenever i try and connect to my wireless it asks for the password and then after a few seconds says that it is unable to join the network.
My router is an ADSL / Wireless router. Its a Thomson B/G/N and is set for mixed WPA/WPA2 mode. I also tried WPA (not WPA2) non mixed mode but either way it still refuses to join.
Afaik Panther should be fine to connect to WPA and i have no problems connecting my other devices (iPhone 2G, iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, Powerbook G4, Macbook Air and iMac).
The Airport card should be ok too because it connects fine when my network is unsecured, it also connects fine to my neighbours unsecured network and also to their WPA network.
Please please help. I would really like to fix this problem. I can't rely on my neighbours network because it is slightly out of range and slow and i dont want to use those horrible wirless dongles.

etresoft says:
It is pretty hard to bridge generations like that. Panther could connect to an older router using WPA. But that new B/G/N router just may not be compatible.
If a router has a b/g mode only, resetting it to that can help. The iBook's original AirPort Card is 802.11b.

  • Linksys WAG54GS Router - iBook G4 Cannot Connect When Encryption Enabled

    Hi - I have a HP laptop and Apple iBook G4 with a wireless connection transmitted through a Linksys Wireless router. When encryption is disabled, the iBook can pick up a signal and I can browse the internet, when WEP encryption is enabled, it cannot. The HP works fine. I add the WEP key to the iBook but it cannot connect. I've tried the two 128bit encryption options and the standard option, but none of them allow a connection. Is there a specific way to secure your internet connection/router when using an Apple? Any ideas/comments appreciated.

    Flames1977, Welcome to the discussion area!
    Hopefully the information in KB 106250, Mac OS X, AirPort: Connecting to Third-Party Base Stations will help.
    Also if the Linksys has several locations for keys, make sure that your WEP key is in location #1. Apple does not support any other location.

  • Cannot connect to wpa protected wifi using netcfg

    This is the setting in networkmanager's nm-applet and it connects flawlessly. http://i.imgur.com/5VuL6.png
    I tried doing the same configuration in netcfg and this is my config file.

    I killed wpa_supplient & started it with option to log to a file by
    wpa_supplicant -u -f /var/log/wpa.log -B
    Now, just to check whether wpa_supplient is still working perfectly, I restarted networkmanager and checked whether I was able to connect to the wifi & I was able to do it.
    I stopped the networkmanager & ran "netcfg up mywifi" & I got nothing in the logfile of wpa_supplient & got a simple message saying "WPA Authentication/Association Failed"..

  • Cannot connect to WPA network with non-ascii password

    In my office somebody thought it would be a good idea to encrypt the wireless network with a WPA password containing a non-ascii character. It is fine by the WPA2 standards, but the airport password prompt doesn't allow me to introduce suche characters.
    I have also tried to put the password directly in Keychain but it didn't work either. Besides, I tried the /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/Apple80211.framework/Versions/Current/Resourc es/airport utility and it also didn't work.
    Any ideas, experiences, comments??
    Thanks a lot

    Anyway, it seems strange to me this limitation the Apple airport utility and that there is no command line way to overcome this "UI problem".
    It appears that OSX is enforcing WPA Personal's "no non-ASCII" rule, whereas Windows isn't.
    There may be a command-line fix, but I don't know what it might be.

  • Cannot connect ibook, all else is fine

    I have the new Extreme base station (N). I have my iMac C2D, mini G4, AppleTV, iPhone and Lenovo C2D notebook (my corporate provide notebook) all connected to my wireless network. I cannot get my wife's old ibook G3 to connect at all. I could get it to connect to my old Linksys router though. The setting are:
    802.11n (802.11b/g compatible)
    automatic
    WPA2 Personal
    The G3 only gives me the option for WEP, WEP 40 and LEAP passwords. If I change the wireless to a "closed network", I can select a WPA2 personal password but it rejects the password.
    Any thoughts?????

    The original 802.11b AirPort card in the iBook G3 can NOT connect to a WPA2 protected network.
    The iBook G3 can connect to a WPA protected network.

  • IBook cannot connect to woreless router with airport card

    The Situation
    my iBook G3 dual usb cannot connect to my wireless router. The router is using wpa and wpa2 encryption and broadcasting on 802.11b and g, on channel 12. The SSID is broadcast, but the iBook airport card cannot see it. The card CAN see other networks in my area. My iMac Mini (spec OS X 10.5.5, airport built in) is connecting to the same router and can see the SSID, so its not the aerial.
    I select 'Other...' on the airport menu to connect, and type in my network name and the WPA2 Personal password. I then get the message: 'The Wireless Network <network> does not support the requested encryption method'
    So what's the problem? And how can I fix it?

    I'm having the same problem, but having been through the threads I'm getting nowhere!
    Running a 2001 dual USB G3 Ibook. Connects fine on home network via Airport Express, but will not connect to PC/Belkin wireless network at my Dad's place. Newer macs seem to connect fine - but not my old dear.
    It detects the network OK and prompts for a WPA password, but it is not recognised.
    The router is set up for WPA/WPA2-PSK (AES encryption)
    Tried turning the security protocols off on the router - still can't connect.
    Same circular "network settings have been changed by another application" if I try and use the IBook's network / airport wizards.
    My software is fully up to date - the ethernet connection works fine with the router.
    This is driving me insane!

  • Cannot Connect to the iBooks Store

    When I open the iBooks store in Mavericks I get "Cannot Connect to the iBooks Store". Also, in Safari anything it cannot connect to anything that uses HTTPS (secure/encrypted connection) such as Twitter. However I do not know if that persisted from Mountain Lion, as I use Firefox. It is solely with my computer, the other mac on Mavericks connects just fine. However, here's where it gets strange. My iPhone, which I have my keychain synced to, does not have a problem. Additionally, the iTunes Store on iTunes can connect to the books section. I've tried going through my certificates and resetting them to Use System Default, using First Aid, changing my MTU in Network Preferences to 1300, and fixing disk permissions, but none of that worked. I have no proxies and no DNS servers.
    I'm getting this error in this console whenever I open iBooks: NSURLConnection/CFURLConnection HTTP load failed (kCFStreamErrorDomainSSL, -9813).

    I have exactly the same issue as describet by "bengersfoo", i.e.
    "I can find exactly the certificate that pavelfrompraha mentions, and it is set to "Always Trust".
    But I cannot reem to reset it to System Defaults. When I choose that option it has always reverted to "Always Trust" whenever I check again."
    It would be very helpful if someone could please explain how to make the "System Defaults" setting stick.

  • Ibooks has frozen...message states cannot connect to itunes

    I went into Ibooks and it has frozen.  the message states cannot connect to itunes store.  I have updated all itunes.  what is the problem?

    You have to put iPhone into Recovery Mode and Restore. Open iTunes on your computer. Connect iPhone to computer with USB Cable. Hold both home and power buttons for about 20 seconds until iTunes recognizes iPhone in Recovery Mode. Click the Restore button of iTunes.

  • IBooks says that it cannot connect to the iTunes store?

    iBooks cannot connect to the iTunes store?  If I go to iTunes, it will connect to the store.  Any ideas?

    This could be caused by several things.  Please provide more details on how you are connecting to iTunes, i.e. WiFi or 3G.  If WiFi is it your own home connection or a public one?
    For example at work there is no real reason for me to connect my iPhone to the company WiFi because they have nearly everything blocked; iTunes, gmail, aol mail, yahoo mail, FaceBook, Twitter.  Basically any of the Fun web sites.  So if I feel the need to update an app while I'm at work I need to wait for lunch go down to the lobby and use the Starbucks WiFi Connection.
    But if you are just having a problem connecting to iTunes you might try resetting your network connections, Settings => General => (Scroll to bottom) Reset => Reset Network Settings, wait for phone to restart and connect to the network.
    This will just disconnect and reconnect you from your 3G provider and clear out all the junk that has built up in the network buffers.  You will have to reenter your WiFi Passwords when you try to reconnect to them but you should have a cleaner connection.
    You can also try restarting your phone.  Press and HOLD both the Home button and the Power button on the top of the phone at the same time for about 10 - 20 seconds.  When the Slide to Power Off screen appears CONTINUE to hold the buttons down.  The screen will go black and then the apple logo should appear.  When the logo appears release both buttons and wait for the phone to restart and reconnect to the network.
    A quick option (Although not as effective as doing a Network Reset) is to turn on Airplan Mode, wait 15 seconds and turn it off.  This breaks the connection with your network provider and then starts it up again.  It just doesn't clean out all the stuff in the buffers, but you may get a better internet connection.

  • Cannot connect to mobile hotspot using wpa; only open security works

    I have a Galaxy S5 and am trying to connect to the mobile hotspot using my Surface tablet.  If I have the mobile hotspot setup using WPA2 security with a password I cannot connect however I can connect if I am using Open security.
    I can connect the surface to other routers using WPA security, just not the Samsung as a mobile hotspot.
    does anyone have any suggestions?

    What you have proved here is that your tablet has a password conflict somewhere.  You should find out where your wireless profiles are being stored on that device, wipe them out and then try connecting again.  Once you provide the tablet with all of the correct connection credentials and configurations it should connect just fine.
    Connecting without a password proves there is not a WiFi issue.  Connecting to other devices is additional proof that there is not a WiFi issue going on.  You just need to straighten out the security issue and then will be good to go.

  • HT4059 When I tap on the store on my iBooks it says cannot connect to iTunes, what is wrong?

    When I tap store on my iBooks it says cannot connect to iTunes, what is wrong?

    Hi Kath50OCD,
    Thanks for the question. When troubleshooting iTunes Store connection issues, the following articles provide the best information:
    First, try signing out of your account in Settings > iTunes & App Store. Once signed out, go ahead and sign back in.
    iOS: Changing the signed-in iTunes Store Apple ID account
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1311
    If the above did not resolve your issue, refer to the following:
    Can't connect to the iTunes Store
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1368
    If you haven't been able to connect to the iTunes Store:
    - Make sure that your iOS software is up to date by connecting your iOS device to iTunes and clicking on Check for Update in your device's Summary page in iTunes.
    - Check and verify that you are in range of a Wi-Fi router or base station. If you are on a 3G capable device, make sure that cellular data is turned on from Settings > General > Cellular.
    - Check to make sure you have an active internet connection. You can check the User Guide for your device for help with connecting to the internet.
    - Check to make sure other devices (portable computers, for example) are able to connect to the Wi-Fi network and access the internet.
    - Try resetting (turning off and then on again) your Wi-Fi router
    - If the issue still persists see, iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connectionsoriOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections.
    Thanks,

  • [SOLVED] Cannot get wpa_supplicant to connect to WPA network

    Hello everybody,
    first of, thanks for the great wiki & forum. I am very new to linux (I've startet with Ubuntu last week) so configuring is something very new to me. Now, on topic:
    I am using a Belkin Wireless G USB Network Adapter (F5D7050 / v.4003). The Ubuntu Wiki says that the zd1211rw driver is the correct one. But: if I don't have any encryption set
    on my wireless network , I can simply connect using
    # iwconfig
    # ifconfig wlan0 up
    # iwconfig wlan0 essid <myssid>
    # dhcpcd wlan0
    so it is working, I can browse the web, etc.
    But if I re-enable WPA/WPA2 (a mixed network), I cannot connect, neither using the method described above, nor using this:
    # ifconfig wlan0 up
    # iwconfig wlan0 essid <myssid>
    # wpa_supplicant -Dwext -iwlan0 -c/etc/wpa_supplicant.conf
    If I use the wpa_supplicant method, it gives me the following error:
    Trying to associate with xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx (SSID='<myssid>' freq=2442 MHz)
    CTRL-EVENT-DISCONNECTED - Disconnect event - remove keys
    ioctl[SIOCSIWENCODEEXT]: No such file or directory
    Associated with xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx
    Authentication with xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx timed out.
    CTRL-EVENT-DISCONNECTED - Disconnect event - remove keys
    ioctl[SIOCSIWENCODEEXT]: No such file or directory
    And it goes on and on like that, just reprinting these lines forever until I stop the session. I have also tried ndiswrapper, madwifi, prism54 (and zd1211rw, but it says it doesn't exist), without success.
    Here's my wpa_supplicant.conf:
    ctrl_interface=DIR=/var/run/wpa_supplicant
    ctrl_interface_group=users
    network={
    ssid="<myssid>"
    key_mgmt=WPA-PSK
    pairwise=TKIP
    group=TKIP
    proto=WPA
    #psk="verysecretphrase"
    psk=xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
    And here's (some of) my rc.conf:
    INTERFACES=(!eth0 wlan0)
    wlan0="dhcp"
    interface=(wlan0)
    gateway="default gw 192.168.01"
    ROUTES=(!gateway)
    Now, i don't know whether this is a driver problem (driver I'm using not working with WPA), a config problem (but why can I connect to unencrypted networks, then?) a router problem (I dont think so, because Windows can connect to the encrypted network without problems.), or anything else...
    I have also tried netcfg, but according to the wiki it doesn't work without a properly configured wpa_supplicant anyway, so the fact that it isn't working is not surprising.
    I have read in a lot of places about this, and many people seem to have wireless problems but none of the sollutions worked. I seem to be missing something crucial, like configurating a file. Could anyone give me a pointer? If you need additional files / outputs, let me know!

    First off, welcome to the Arch forums.
    I had problems initially with wpa_supplicant, as well, but that was awhile ago so I'll try to see if I can give you a little assistance.  This is my /etc/wpa_suppicant.conf.
    ctrl_interface=/var/run/wpa_supplicant
    eapol_version=1
    ap_scan=1
    fast_reauth=1
    network={
    ssid="ssid_name"
    psk=a_bunch_of_numbers_and_letters_with_no_quotation_marks
    key_mgmt=WPA-PSK
    pairwise=TKIP
    group=TKIP
    proto=WPA
    So as you can see, I don't have the ctrl_interface=DIR=...etc, so I don't know if that is your problem.  Also, did you create a /var/run/wpa_supplicant directory (this messed me up at first, even though it was mentioned in the wiki)?
    I do use netcfg, as well as wifi-radar to let me see what networks are available when I travel.  This is my /etc/network.d/wireless profile--if you want to try that.
    CONNECTION="wireless"
    INTERFACE=wlan0
    SCAN="yes"
    SECURITY="wpa-config"
    ESSID="ssid_name"
    KEY=""
    IP="static"
    IFOPTS="192.168.0.101 netmask 255.255.255.0 broadcast 192.168.0.255"
    GATEWAY="192.168.0.1"
    TIMEOUT=30
    My ip is static but I believe you just have to replace "static" with "dhcp" if you choose that.
    Don't know if any of that will help but if you can connect without encryption, wpa is likely your culprit.

  • IBooks cannot connect to iTunes Store

    None of the responses to this question have ever been helpful... I have tried all kinds of things to fix tis problem. Because iBooks cannot communicate with iTunes for some reason (even though I can open the iTunes Store app just fine.) all of the books I try to download get stuck at like 75% and then when I close the app and reopen they are back at 0% and every time I try to redo the download that annoying message comes up (cannot connect to iTunes Store) at which time I can immediately go to iTunes store just fine with the app.
    I have tried killing and reopening all of my processes (double tapping home button), resetting all network settings, restarting iPad, resetting Wi Fi, checking the time zone, and pretty much everything on that list made to troubleshoot iTunes trouble. So please don't be lazy and refer me to that list again or blame it on my internet, because it works just fine. Please give me something helpful. Sorry if this comes across as rude, but I am fed up with how many people have had this issue and how Apple hasn't even tried to solve it. I have iPad mini iOS 7.1.2

(This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.) No data/files will be erased. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430
    This works for some users. Not sure why.
    Go to Settings>General>Date and Time> Set Automatically>Off. Set the date ahead by about a year.Then see if you can connect to the store.
    How much Available storage space do you have? The space may not be sufficient for the size of the download. To check, go to Settings>General>About>Available Are you trying to download one book or multiple books at one time?
