IBook G3 (USB): Unable to connect to the internet

Good Morning;
I am having a problem with my iBook G3 Model M7701ll, 600 mhz which I just bought. The iBook is running OS 10.4.7
I live remote and my only connection to the web is dial up with a 24.4K connection on my G4 using a external USB Modem.
I have configured the iBook exactly the same as my G4.
Using Network Diagnostics I find the following after a connection;
Modem shows good
Modem Status is Good
Network is Good
I get a connection and I am authenticated with my Userid and Password
ISP shows good
Internet Failed
Server Failed
SO, I am connected, authenticated, but can not connect to any thing on the web. No matter what URL I use, I get the screen that says server not found.
This condition exists with the internal modem and my external USB modem.
There is no problem whatsoever with my USB Modem or phone line as I can do immediate connects ( as I am here now) on my G4.
I beat on this till midnight last night with no win. Can anyone shed some light on what my problem may be.
Dont laugh about my 24.4K connection LOL !
Paul

Great news Paul, and thank you too!
Now, so I can learn from this. What does adding those DNS numbers do to the connection/ or iBook ? On my PowerMac G4, I dont have those DNS numbers entered and its been running great on dial up for 3 years. Whats different with the iBook ?
OK, they're OpenDNS' numbers...
http://www.opendns.com/how/dns/turning-names-into-numbers
Sometimes Macs & Routers/Modems don't communicate DNS numbers correctly... usually they are stored in the Router or Modem. Also some ISPs DNS servers are pretty flaky, and OpenDNS has been far more reliable for years than many of the big names you'd expect to be better.
Safari uses those System Numbers while Firefox uses it's own.
You might get a speedup by using those numbers for the PM/G4 too... or not.
PS. You might thank Ronda personally, as she watches this forum like a hawk, and asked for help from the other L4/L5s... otherwise I'd never seem it as I've only been to the book forums a couple of times... and then on her behest!

  • Unable to Connect to the internet using airport extrteme

I am unable to connect to the internet using airport extreme It was working fine with my G3 & G4 iBooks but now I am unable to connect. I am able to connect directly to my Desktop connecting directly using ethernet. I am also receiving a strong signal from the airport base station. Please help. Thank you.

Try the following, in order, until resolved:
    1. If the modem has a reset switch, use it to reset the modem. Wait at least 5-10 minutes for the modem to initialize.
    2. Remove power from the modem. If it has a backup battery, remove this as well. Wait 5-10 minutes. Replace the battery, and add power back to the modem.
    3. Perform a complete power recycle of your network components as follows:
    Modem/Router Power Recycling - Quick
o Power-off the modem, AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBS), & computer(s); Wait at least 5 minutes.
o Power-on the modem; Wait at least 5 minutes.
o Power-on the AEBS; Wait at least 5 minutes.
    o Power-on the computer(s)
If this fails to get the modem to "recognize" the Internet router, then try the "Full" version.
    Modem/Router Power ReCycling - Full
o Power-off the modem, AEBS, & computer(s). (Wait at least 30 minutes. If possible, leave the modem off overnight.)
o Power-on the modem; Wait at least 15 minutes.
o Power-on the AEBS; Wait at least 5 minutes.
    o Power-on the computer(s)
    4. Contact your ISP to have them perform a "modem reset."

  • Curve 9380 unable to connect to the internet via wifi

I'm using curve 9380 and unable to connect to the internet via my home wifi, there is no blackberry logo beside the wifi signal symbol. I don't have this probelm if I'm using my laptop or curve 8520 to connect to the internet via the same wifi router. Please help. Thank you.

Check firewall, if you're on wifi then try ethernet to rule out interference. It is likely a network issue.

  • Unable to connect to the internet please try again later

I have a blackberry torch 9800, I don't have a data plan. I use a wifi signal with other phones, but my blackberry doesn't allow me to browse or view apps online.  The error "unable to connect to the internet please try again later" appears.  The phone has a clear signal of the wifi, i've tried various other hotspots, my other phones work perfectly.  The blackberry says it's connected to the wifi, but no internet browsing is possible.  What else can I do other than rip the battery out to re-boot?

well that sux, are there any alternatives?

  • "Unable to connect to the internet, please try again" wifi issue

I recently recieved my blackberry storm in the mail excited to use the wifi. I set it up including entering the correct security code a number of time for the "wep" security options and it recognizes the network. I believe it's connecting also, but when I open my browser the message of "Unable to connect to the internet, please try again." pops up. I have a verizon account with a data plan, but due to not wanting to use up my data plan I switched it off as only to rely on my wifi. What can I do? I've updated everything and tried so many things. Our wifi has never done this to any other device. PLEASE HELP!

in the browser, go to the options and setthe default browser as "Hotspot browser" instead of "Internet Browser".

There is no web browser on the ATV, as a result, it cannot be used with such Internet connections.
Contact whomever provides support for the Wi-Fi service, they may be able to add the ATV to a whitelist to allow it to connect.

  • RV042 behind P660 unable to connect to the internet

    Hi,
I am a bit new to setting up dual wan router. I am currently having a Zyxel P660 Adsl router but rv042 is unable to connect to the internet as zyxel doesn't give it a I.P address. Thank you guys in advance.

    Hello Rashmin,
I am not that familair with the P660 but from looking over Zyxel's website it looks like a modem/router combo.
Is it possible to place the Zyxel into bridged mode, so that it only acts as a ADSL router and passes the public IP on to the RV042?  You may need to call your ISP to have them do this for you.
When you are in bridged mode you will also probably have to configure the RV042's WAN port as a PPPoE connection and enter your ISP's credentials, so make sure they give you this when you speak to them about bridged mode.
With some routers it is possible to plug in another router behind them and everything sort of works.  This is called a double NAT situation, and does prevent VPN from working.  However not even that is working here so I would definitely see about getting that modem into bridged mode.  Some ISPs also call it IP passthrough or one-to-one NAT, just tell them you want a public IP on your RV042's WAN port.
    Thank you for choosing Cisco,

  • Mail is unable to connect to the internet???

Mail has been working intermittently for the past couple of weeks, sometimes it worked perfectly for a while and suddenly for no apparent reason it would stop. I would be unable to send or receive mail, except from mac.com. At that time I was running 10.4.10, and, as soon as I upgraded to 10.4.11 all my problems stopped. Until now. This time though i noticed that connection doctor was saying that Mail could not connect to the internet, even though every account connected and logged in without problems. My internet connection was on and working at the time. Incidentally I live in the back of beyonds so the only broadband availible to me is from an HSDPA modem which i connect using USB. 3Ireland is my isp but they tell me that the problem is not on their side. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance

Try typing in your name and password in preferences, look at accounts, make sure it's active.

  • Full signal strength but unable to connect to the internet

I just got my ibook G4 about a month ago and have only been able to access the internet for about 2 weeks on and off. After I set up my wireless linksys router I was able to connect right away and it was fine. Then about a week or so after using it when I tried to open safari a message popped up telling me I was not connected to the internet. This lasted for about a week and then one day out of the blue I was able to connect. This lasted about a week and has since gone back to being unable to connect for the past 5 days. I have full airport signal strength and it recognizes linksys in the drop down menu.
I called Apple and was unfortunately disconnected but they advised me to reset the router by disconnecting it and plugging it back in after ten seconds. Still no luck. I even tried connecting through the cable that is normally connected to the desktop, still nothing.
Does anyone have any advice or know what could be wrong??
    iBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.2)

Megz, first welcome to the discussions,
Here are the recommended steps to regain your connection.
If you have not changed or fiddled with any of your settings.
1st Check and make sure all of your cables are good and plugged in all the way.
2nd, Shut your computer clear OFF.
3rd, Pull the AC adapter from your Internet Service Providers Modem.
Next Pull the AC adapter from your Router.
You will have to wait a minimum of 5 minutes.
    Next In Order.
Plug back in your Internet Service Providers Modem after your 5 minute wait.
Now you need to wait untill it has regained it's signal from your ISP's server, to your modem, this normally takes a minute or so, or untill you have all the lights (normally 3).
Next you can plug back in your Router and repeat the process of waiting for all the lights again, about a minute.
Now you can turn your computer back on and you should be good.
If not, repeat the process and wait a little longer.
If there is a problem it is normally caused by not waiting untill you have re-aquired the signal form your ISP's Server. Good Luck Don

  • I am unable to connect to the internet, there is a pop-up that says "We're sorry, but the Safari browse version you are currently using dos no support the community toolbar". My computer does say that it is connected to the internet until I open Safari.

I am unable to connect to the interent. At the top of the screen my computer says that I am connected. When I open up Safari there is a pop up that say "Community Toolbar          We're sorry, but the Safari browser version you are currently using does not support the community toolbar" and when the Safari page opens up it says "You are not connected to the Internet. Safari can't open the page .... because your computer isn't connected to the Internet." I have tried Network Diagnostics and tried to reset Sfari, empty Cache as well as deleted all of my interent history. I am unable to use Time Machine because I never set it up. If someone knows how to help I would very much appreciate it!!

  • I have a 5th generation iPod touch that is suddenly "unable to connect to the server", not entirely sure what this means but I'm unable to connect to the internet even though I'm connected to Wifi. Can't connect to iTunes on my pc either. Any input?

I have a 16GB iPod touch that suddenly stopped connecting to the internet last night. Everytime I try to get mail, or access anything with Safari I get a message saying that it can't connect to the server. Also I've plugged it in to my home computer but it won't connect to iTunes either. I haven't updated to iOS8 yet as I didn't have enough space for it and I had planned on deleting all my music files, updating the software and putting whatever music I could fit back on to the device afterward, but now I'm hesitant to do that as I have no way to get any of the files back onto the device. Could this be because I haven't updated to iOS8 yet? I've been having other problems such as apps crashing unexpectedly lately as well, for example my music shuts off randomly and apps such as Twitter and Tumblr and a few others crash on launch. I'm definitely not a genius when it comes to technology by any means, so I have no idea what's causing this problem or how to fix it, any help would be greatly appreciated!

Does the iOS device connect to other networks? If yes that tend to indicate a problem with your network.
Does the iOS device see the network?
    Any error messages?
    Do other devices now connect?
Did the iOS device connect before?
Try the following to rule out a software problem:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Power off and then back on your router
.- Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings
    - iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
    - Wi-Fi: Unable to connect to an 802.11n Wi-Fi network
    - iOS: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem and it does not connect to any networks make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • Since updating to iOS 6 on my ipad i am unable to connect to the internet, itunes or the app store. I have tried many suggestions about changing the dat, logging in/out of itunes etc but nothing has worked! Please help :)

Since updating my ipad to iOS 6 a few days ago i can't seem to get onto the internet, the app store or itunes, nor can i update to iOS7!! I sent an email to apple support and they said we don't handle these issues and redirected me back to the help forums which i have already seen and tried everything other people have suggested and nothing has worked (changing date, signing in/out of itunes etc). When i go to app store the screen is blank, in itunes it just keeps saying loading but never gets anywhere and same with the internet! When i go to settings to update to iOS 7.0.4 it says software update unavailable, try again later. Not sure what to do now. Nothing works, can't use my apps, facebook, music etc. Will contact apple again and try get some answers. But thanks for any info

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.
Some Wi-Fi losses may stem from a problematic interaction between Wi-Fi and cellular data connections. Numerous users have found that turning off Cellular Data in Settings gets their Wi-Fi working again.
You may have many apps open which can possibly cause the slowdown and possibly the loss of wifi. In iOS 4-6 double tap your Home button & at the bottom of the screen you will see the icons of all open apps. Close those you are not using by pressing on an icon until all icons wiggle - then tap the minus sign. For iOS 7 users, there’s an easy way to see which apps are open in order to close them. By double-tapping the home button on your iPhone or iPad, the new multitasking feature in iOS 7 shows full page previews of all your open apps. Simply scroll horizontally to see all your apps, and close the apps with a simple flick towards the top of the screen.

  • I have a Motorola SB6141 modem that is connected to a time capsule. I am unable to connect to the internet on my laptop and playstation 3

Ive just switched to a "Motorola SURFboard eXtreme Cable Modem" which is connected to a time capsule.
I am unable to connect to my internet via. wifi on my Playstation.
I have already tried many different attempts to connect to the internet. I have tried to directly connect to the internet using an ethernet cable as well as restarting my mac laptop and playstation. I am only able to connect to the internet on my main computer.
    Please help?
I tried being the most descriptive I could

I am only able to connect to the internet on my main computer.
What IP does your main computer get.. ?? Post a screenshot if you can as it helps to see the details.
When you open the airport utility on the main computer.. click on the TC what errors does it show?
They will list in the summary.
What mode is the TC in? If the setup went wrong it might be bridged when it should be in router mode..
Remember any time to change things around with cable modems you MUST shut down the modem as well.. it cannot change the MAC address of the first item easily so need to be off.. a few minutes at least.. sometimes up to 20min or longer. Make sure the TC captures the public IP on the wan interface.. which is the only way this will work with a pure modem.
The most recent TC can still have issues.. new AC version TC and AE have the Max amount of issues with SB6121 and 6141.. there seems to be some ethernet issue between them..
What model TC do you have??
You can slow the LAN port down or specify the actual speed in the Gen1-4.

I have an iPad on v5.01.  I am unable to use my wifi network to connect to the internet.  My wife's iPad works fine.  Please advise any potential solutions.

Have you checked to see if your WiFi router needs to have your iPad's MAC address specifically permitted to use WiFi?  Some WiFi routers have a section in the settings called "Access List", possibly under "Security".
You can find the MAC address in Settings > General > About > Wi-Fi Address
