Ibook g4 133 backup battery???

Hi, I have never had this problem and i always let my computer die on battery power but lately my ibook runs out of juice and when it starts up via powercord it has changed the date..... never did that in the 2 years i have owned this one or the one before it.... i read that they don't have back up batteries but i never experienced this until this week.... what is up? it also wont go intohybrnation when it it runs out of juice and is still on it jst all of a subben dies.... no little white light onin the front......
so is it true that there are no backup batteries...??? and going into hybernation was what saved the timmeand date...
thanks.....

Hi Richard,
It's true. There is no backup battery. There's a small capacitor that maintains PRAM for about a minute while batteries are swapped.
Your battery is probably near dead. Lithium ion batteries have a life of two years on average. You can try resetting the PMU but you probably need a new battery.

  • Is iBook G4 (early 2004) battery hot-swappable during sleep

Is the battery of an iBook G4 (early 2004) hot-swappable while the computer is in sleep mode and the power adapter is not connected?

No. Download the iBook Manual from this page:
    http://www.apple.com/support/ibook/
On page 46 of the manual, it says to shut down the iBook before removing the battery.
The online instructions for iBook battery replacement can be found here:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=88121
Again, it tells you to shut down the iBook before removing the battery. This has not changed for the iBook G4.
Here is the list for part numbers for backup batteries:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=86181
Note that all iBooks are listed as n/a (not applicable) when it comes to backup batteries. Since your iBook does not have a backup battery, the battery is not hot-swappable.

  • What are the best external backup battery choices for the iPod Touch 4G?

    Hello,
I am so disappointed with the battery life on my iPod Touch 4G, even when I turn off location services and notifications and put it in airplane mode.
As such, I realize that I am going to have to get an external backup battery, even though I don't like the idea of carrying around yet another item.
What are the best choices out there, especially any ultra-portable (aka small and non-bulky) ones?  I came across this Juice Pack Air - iPod Touch 4G Case, which seems like the perfect solution, but it is on back order and seems to have been so for a good amount of time.  Who knows when it will be in stock again.
TIA for any and all help!

  • Backup Battery

I have an iMac G3 CRT, indigo. It won't hold date & time anymore. The help menu tells me I may need to replace the backup battery but I can't find any info on where it is or how to accesss it. Anybody got info??

    Welcome Dale!
This is the battery as sold online:
    http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Newer%20Technology/BAA36VPRAM/
Radio Shack stores cary the correct battery as part number 23-026, but will charge you three times the online price (the example I posted is typical).
If you open the RAM installation door on the bottom of the case, you can see the PRAM battery. A non-metallic grasping tool like plastic forceps makes replacing the battery easier. Make sure to note the polarity of the old battery and duplicate it when installing the new one.
Most PRAM batteries last a long time, but start to die quickly when the computer is off wall power. Best practice is to leave Macs plugged into the wall socket even if they are not getting much use. If you must unplug one for an extended period of time, remove the battery and tape it to the case.

  • Replace Backup Battery

My installer put the backup battery in the attic.  I'm disabled so I don't stand a prayer of getting up there to replace the battery.  What do I do when it's time to replace the battery?  How do I know the battery needs changing?  What's the average before a battery needs to be change?

Mine began beeping about a week ago.  I could find nowhere on the general website that addressed this problem--even in the automated help (i always got remote control battery replacement...not helpful).  Nor was i initially able to get real, live tech support.  This morning i got through and was advised consistent with this string: ie verizon warantees the back-up battery for one year only; after that it is your problem.  the website is:
                                                             fios.asurion.com
please note: there is no www. before the address.
there are only three tabs on the website: home; order; log-in.
the battery at this time costs just under $50.00 (not sure what shipping is).
I am pleased with Fios (though the Verizon customer support website could use some help), but charging you 50 bucks to replace the battery is something not even the cable company would do.
note also: the back-up battery powers only your phone service in the event of a power outage (according to tech support; no internet, no tv).  So...i thought (and was advised by tech support) i could just take out the battery to get rid of the beeping...didn't work.
hope this helps you avoid what it took me to figure out.

  • Backup battery replacement specifications

I have scanned MULTIPLE pdf manuals on replacing the FLAT backup battery in the 17" iMac G5 with the ambient light sensor AND NOWHERE DOES IT TELL YOU WHAT KIND, TYPE, SPECS, ETC. It just says replace it with the new one.. well duh!
There was no battery under the little clip for me to compare it to otherwise I wouldn't have a problem. In fact, I don't understand how the machine was working before since it had been working perfectly fine a couple days ago. I cracked open the case to replace/upgrade the hard drive and when I put back together unit will not boot. Cracked open the back and that was when I noticed the little flat battery compartment was empty???????????
I have replaced those little 3.6v purple backup batteries for 20 years. Why didn't they just stick with SAME BATTERY they have used for over 20 years

The battery is a CR2032 3 volt lithium button battery that you can find for about five dollars in any Radio Shack.

I see no reason why it shouldn't. At prices I've seen down to $4.39, I wouldn't hesitate to give it a try. That's cheaper than a sandwich!

  • How to test T61 backup battery?

    Hello,
am taking apart a T61 for cleaning, OS reload etc and am thinking of testing the backup battery while I am in the maintenance mode. The maintenance manual indicates to remove the battery and measure the voltage, but doesn't indicate how to do this, I have a multimeter but have no idea how to test this particular part.
    Any suggestions welcome.

it's a simple DC battery with two wires, you just check the voltage across them, but I'd recommend you remove any bios passwords you may have set first.
Also, these batteries don't often go bad, so you can simply remove the main battery and unplug the AC for a few hours and if the clock remains set, the cmos battery is working.

  • Yosemite and zero power Backup Battery

    Hi to everybody.
I have a 350 Mhz Yosemite and there is no way to boot OS 9 or Mac OS X from nothing: neither from HD, CD, DVD or external firewire HD... Mac OS 9 style folder blinking in the screen.
Could this be caused by the backup battery which is currently dead (zero volts)?
    TIA
    Majortom

Information that makes your Mac a pleasure to use on a daily basis is held in Parameter RAM.
    This includes:
    Preferred OS Type
    Preferred OS Version
    Preferred Boot Device
Normally, Parameter RAM is maintained by an "always-on" \[when AC Power is available] about 5 Volt power supply.
When the "always-on" power drops, even for a moment, the battery is pressed into service to maintain the parameters. If the Voltage is not there, you get corruption in the parameters, and then the things that usually make your Mac a pleasure to start and use become the reverse.
Your Mac may be looking for a goofy version of a goofy Operating System, on a non-existent boot device, with the screen resolution set to something truly amazing.
For bench-testing, you can remove the battery and remove all power and let it sit for a while. Then restore power and press and hold the tiny Reset button nearest the battery for a quarter minute, then wait at least five seconds and attempt to start again. If successful, you will be good until the power fluctuates.
The 3.6 Volt non-recharging Lithium batteries are available from many online sellers for under US$10. Although a 3.0 Volt camera battery will fit, it is not adequate to start and run your Mac. In general, it needs at least 3.2 Volts to start and run successfully. A new battery test at 3.6 Volts in hand.

  • Compatible Backup battery for Iphone 3G ?

Hi, I've been looking around for backup battery for Iphone 3G and have no luck at all since most of them are for Ipods and Iphone 2G. Then I bought one that was made for Ipod and tried it on my Iphone, it worked perfectly. The question is: Is it ok to keep using it eventhough it's not made for 3G ? Is it gonna damage the Iphone 3G in someway ? Thank you.

I just ordered this one on the 13th
It can fast charge the iPhone 3G and it works with the first generation iPhone.
it might work with iPods too maybe check it out.

  • Ipod with video backup battery

    hi there,
i may be posting in the wrong place, but i see no discussions on the apple store.
the belkin tunepower rechargeable backup battery apparently won't work with the ipod video.
is there one coming out in the near future ? does anyone know ? when watching videos i only get 2 1/2 or 3 hours of watching which doesn't really seem like a long time.
    just a wondering
    thanks !

this is the one i want but it says not compatible with ipod video
    http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore.woa/wo/2.RSLID?mco=D FA7D034&nplm=TB265LL%2FA
masna, now that you have pointed out that the AA battery backup will work, i'm happy, i just wanted a thinner one.
and yes i understand how bulky the ipod would have been had they gone with the standard battery route and these ipods would probably not be as popular had they done that.
so i will be happy for now, but hope they come out with a rechargeable one for ipod video in the very near future.

  • PB G4: Sound output inconsistent and backup battery dead. AppleCare covers?

I have a PowerBook G4 that a got a few months ago brand new -- I am the original owner. It came with AppleCare as part of a package.
From the very beginning, the sound output plug hasn't worked right consistently. If I plug in headphones or speakers, usually only one channel will play; if I jiggle the plug delicately, often (but not always) I can get both channels to play right. But If I even touch the cord, I lose one of the channels again. But the built-in speakers work fine, both channels. The problem is with the output to the headphones.
I tried peering into the sound outlet hole with a mini-flashlight and a magnifying glass, but it looked perfectly fine in there. I tried a variety of headphones and speakers, but the problem is the same with all of them.
I didn't mind too much at first, because I wasn't using the PB for sound, but recently I have been editing videos on it, and the sound flaw is becoming a major problem.
Unrelated to that: the backup battery (that maintains memory when the main battery runs out, if you're not plugged into to AC) is completely shot: no charge whatsoever. I've have other PBs in the past but I've never seen a backup battery run out of juice so quickly -- usually it takes years. I've only had this computer a few months. If I'm not plugged into AC, and I ignore the "You are getting low on power" warning, and then the main battery runs out, and the PB is supposed to go to sleep powered by the backup battery. But instead it just goes off. When I re-plug it back in, I have to restart. I rarely ever do this, but the last two times it has happened -- no sleep, just off.
My question is this: are either or both of these problems covered by my AppleCare plan? The sound problem was this way from the beginning. I've never used AppleCare -- how does it work? Do I have to mail my computer somewhere for it to be fixed? Or can I take to a Apple certified dealer (I live not far from an Apple Store). I'm really hesitant about giving up my computer for a long time just for these non-critical repairs.
    Thanks.

  • Backup battery - what wattage?

    I have a G4 450 Dual model7892.
I want to buy a backup plug in power source from APC.
They said the minimum needed for this computer is a backup battery of 540 watts. I cannot get them to tell me how they came upon this number.
Can anyone help or make recommendations for backup equipment?
    Thanks,
    Mrs H

There may be a power tag on the back of your Mac that lists the Volts & Amps.
In picking the size and features of a UPS, there are several important considerations.
    1. What devices are connected to the backup power & what are their wattages. I use a Belkin model F6B750-AVR uninterruptable power supply (UPS) that's rated at 400 watts. I have my G4 AGP Mac, a 17" LCD monitor, my DSL modem & wireless router connected (everything needed to continue operation during a power failure). During use, the UPS is only loaded at 25% of it's output capacity.
    2. How long do you want the system to operate after a power failure. I have the Belkin software shutdown the system after 10 minutes of operation (like if I'm not home), unless I shut it down manually. If I recall correctly, I calculated that I could run on battery power for possibly as long as 25-30 minutes.
    3. Surge protection - In addition to the battery backup electrical outlets (4 each), the Belkin UPS has 2 additional outlets that are surge protected. I use these for my other devices, like a printer, etc. The surge protection keeps high voltage spikes from damaging your equipment.
    4. Automatic Voltage Regulation - The Belkin UPS regulates the output voltage at 120VAC, regardless of a low line voltage like durning a brownout.
    5. Broadband/Phone Line Surge Protection - The Belkin UPS has a plug for a standard telephone line connection (like for dial-up), an ethernet plug for DSL line connection & a coax connector for cable connection. All of these are surge protected.
Your G4 450 Dual could probably use a UPS with the 400W rating, except it would have a shorter battery run time. There's not a whole lot of difference in price when you get a higher rated UPS, so get one larger that 400W. I would recommend that has the features on the Belkin UPS.
Hope this info helps in your purchase decision. A UPS protects your computer hardware like a backup hard drive protects your software. You need both.
     Cheers, Tom

  • Can I just disconnect/remove Fios backup battery?

I cut off my home phone service due to not needing/wanting it any longer a few months ago. Now the backup battery is beeping every few minutes. I assume that means it needs replacing.  But it's also my understanding it's only for the phone. I now only have fios cable/internet services. I disconnected the battery and took it out, but that annoying beeping continues. I have even hit the alarm off button on several occasions but it still continues. Am I missing a step or something. I'm about over it and contemplating switching back over to the local cable provider Cox Communications.

People, when you reply to someone's post, do you even read it?  He is stating the following:
"I disconnected the battery and took it out, but that annoying beeping continues. I have even hit the alarm off button on several occasions but it still continues."
I assume that he wants to know how to shut off the beeping.  He does not want to buy a new battery or pull a cable off of a battery that is already out of the box!  He just wants to stop the beeping, period.
My only suggestion is to take the box apart and cut the wire to the speaker (alarm), this will silence it for good.  Otherwise, you will have to purchase a battery and plug it in to keep it charged.
    Sorry for my little rant!

I did, in fact, read the post. The unit itself is causing the beeping (not the battery), and as I said, this is usually caused by the unit not receiving power. Remove the CAUSE, and the symptom should be resolved. I did not suggest anything to do with the battery itself.
