Ibook G4. LCD - Horizontal Lines After Boot

I am working on an iBook G4. It boots up to the Apple logo. Once the OS starts to load I get a blue screen sometimes and other times a mass of multi-colored horizontal lines. The display works fine when booted to the OSX DVD.
I ran Disk Utility to repair the disk and it's permissions. I backed up the data on the drive and performed an "Erase and Install". I have reset the PRAM. Still getting the same issue.

Hmm. What's the processor speed for this iBook? Is it a 12" or 14"?
There's the possibility that you've got an issue similar to what's known as the "corey arnold" issue:
http://www.coreyarnold.org/ibook/
If you have an external hard drive with a Firewire connection, you could install OS X on there, then boot the machine from this external hard drive to see how it behaves.
Any change with Safe Mode?

  • Add horizontal line after each record

I have 10 records seperated by ID. I m using List in SSRS to show data on report. I need to add horizontal line after first record, then after second record till 10 th record. How do we add this line?
    Any help much appreciated.

    Hi SQL Insane,
Per my understanding that you have add the tablix into the list and group on the "ID", now you want to add an horizontal line between each record which grouped by the ID like below, right?
If so, please reference to the details information below:
Select the entire rows and Right click to select the Insert row-Inside Group below to add an inside row group
Select the new added inside row group and set properties as below to make sure there is only display the black solid line on the bottom just like to add an horizontal line:
If you still have any problem, please feel free to ask.

  • Horizontal lines after turning my Satellite on

Sometimes when I turn the laptop ON, it comes up with many horizontal lines and gets worse. If I hold down specific keys on the left hand side of the keyboard, the lines disappear and can disappear completely and not return but most of the time they return when I remove my finger from the key.
I did system restore a day ago and the lines temporarily disappeared but today they came back and would not go. Now they have randomly disappeared. Is this a hardware defect?
If so, can somebody help me get in touch with Toshiba in Spain as I have tried to contact them and I??ve had no reply. I??ve only had my laptop a month and I feel jinxed as every computer I??ve had, goes wrong. But this time we have got 3 years warranty incase.
    Thanks,
    Sam.

    Hello Sam
Try please to connect external display to your notebook. Use FN+F5 key combination to switch to external display only. Please watch carefully if the problem persist and let us know. We will continue our discussion after your next posting.

  • Fresh install (2012/11/01): Not reaching the command line after boot

    Hi
I just installed the latest 2012/11/01 base + base-devel Arch, but after booting in. the process stopped at the point were the last messages from the kernel were printed in the console. The boot process never reached the shell command line for logging in. I re-installed, thinking I did something wrong but again I had the same problem. Eventually. I accidentally found that by keying Enter, I could get the shell login request and I could login OK, having a seemingly functional base system. However, the console font I specified in vconsole.conf did not take effect and the halt command would hang, although reboot worked OK.
I have of course little experience with systemd, but I get the feeling the all this is due to systemd not running properly. I read whatever documentation I found relevant but since there is so much of it, I believe I must have missed the relevant info.
Please help me to get my new install run properly and please clarify whether  have to explicitely enable systemd after completing the official installation instructions.
    My thanks in advance.

Please always post your configuration files if you reference them.
neok wrote:the halt command would hang
The halt command does not turn off your computer. The "poweroff" command does.
Writing "systemctl poweroff" is not necessary, as /sbin/poweroff is a link to systemctl poweroff.
Last but not least search for suspicous lines in the log files. You can read them with this command.

  • Ibook screen with horizontal lines

    Hi
My sons G4 Ibook has horizontal lines top and bottom and corrupt icons / two mouse cursers - please help can I fix this please?
    thanks
    Roy
    see pic here => http://i531.photobucket.com/albums/dd354/redwoodpc/IMAG0005.jpg

    Hey Roy,
Most likely the problem is that the ball grid array (BGA) on the graphics chip (GPU) has become detached. It has been posted that this can happen and the output to the external monitor is unaffected which runs counter to the common test.
Pressure on the GPU can fix this problem for a period of time. Since the GPU sits under a large heat sink in the G4 pressure is best applied from underneath.
Post the exact size and CPU speed for an exact position of the GPU.
A permanent fix would involve reballing of the GPU.
If pressure from under the GPU makes the problem go away this would confirm the diagnosis.

  • Grey horizontal lines after dropping phone?

I dropped my phone and when I picked it up there were and still are grey horizontal lines across the screen. I don't know how to fix it. Help? I looked it up online and somewhere it said that something could be wrong with the LCD? I have also tried resetting it and turning it off. Anything that could help would be great. Thanks!

Your iPhone has a hardware issue from the drop.  The screen will need to be replaced.  Go to https://locate.apple.com/country to find service locations.

  • L655D-S5055 LCD horizontal line issue - possible motherboard or GPU failing??

    Hello,
A few weeks ago a horizontal line running from the left edge to the right edge of the LCD about 2 1/4"
from the bottom of the LCD started to occur.  The line shows up from the time the screen turns on
and remains in CMOS or the Win 7 desktop.  I have replaced the LCD panel with a new OEM LCD
panel, this did not resolve the issue.  I replaced the internal video cable, this did not resolve the issue.
Since the line occurs in the CMOS screen (DOS prompt screen) or in Win7, there is not video driver
issue I believe.  I also updated the L655D BIOS to the latest v2.10  Nothing has resolved the issue.
Is this possibly a sign of a GPU issue at the motherboard level? I have noted that the space below the line does "flicker" or distort the image, but only below the line.  The rest of the image on the screen stays without any problem.  I have also attached the laptop to an external monitor which has no line like this or any issues with the display at all.  Thus the reason I had originally concluded the LCD panel and internal
    video cable.
Does anyone know if this is a known problem with specific motherboards with this model laptop, or GPUs?
Is there a replacement motherboard program for this laptop as this is certainly a quality issue that should
not be left for the enduser to replace the motherboard and be charged a high cost repair such as this!
I appreciate any guidance or advice on this issue.  I have attached two pictures for reference of this problem.
One shows the line in a Command prompt screen, the other while in Win 7.
[Updated: 2-Apr-2013]  based on further research and experience with other similar issues, I am beginning to think this is related to heat and the GPU impacted by poor quality soldering or some other issue of that nature.  I have performed "reballing" with other products, but am not sure about whether this issue can be resolved or how to go about an effective "reball" for this product motherboard.  A replacement, used motherboard is hard to find and if found are over $150USD.  Again, it seems unfair to the consumer to have a laptop like this for 4 years and need to replace the motherboard or live with this issue until the unit fails completely.
    Thank you in advance.

  • Horizontal lines, slow boot and other problems...

Lately our iMac has developed a few issues. For starters there seems to be horizontal lines that appear randomly on the desktop, in programs like safari, firefox and just about any other programs. They seem to be completely random and actually seem to happen more under my user name than my wife's. I've also noticed that booting up takes a heck of alot more time than it used to. I can even boot up my aging PC faster than this. Also the overall performance seems sluggish. I've also noticed that the screen dims all the time. I could be watching a 3min movie on youtube and have the screen dim. We've never changed any settings and I can't see any reason behind this.
I've verified and repaired file permissions, but don't know where else to go from there. I'm much more used to fixing PC's than dealing with a Mac. Speaking of which....
Even though there are quite a few things I like about the iMac (we've had this one for about 2yrs now), I'm really beginning to doubt that they are worth the higher price tag. So far we've had both the mouse and keyboard just stop working (using a cheapo Logitech combo right now), can't stand that multiple users can't access the same pictures from iPhoto, and now these current problems. I guess my question is if this is normal for a Mac. I've always had problems with Windows, but they are easily fixed and never the hardware problems like I'm having with the Mac. We plan to get a notebook soon, but I'm wary of buying another mac.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
For starters there seems to be horizontal lines that appear randomly on the desktop, in programs like safari, firefox and just about any other programs.
This is the sign of a lemon, so no, it is not normal of a Mac to do this. Run the hardware test that came with the Mac on its installer discs. If it detects nothing, point out the issue to an authorized service center.
The chances of it happening to a Mac are less, but by no means is it nil. That's what the warranty is for, if you keep good care of your machine.

  • CC 3D text + postcard problem! horizontal line after render!

    Hi.
I tried to make a 3D text, using a 3D text with a background postcard layer. I merge the two layers and then render it. But during the rendering process i get a horizontal line of light and shadow in the center of the finished layer.
    like this http://oi61.tinypic.com/5wl35x.jpg
A friend has send me a PS file and told me to check it out. I played around with it and I've found out that when i use his postcard layer (so the one in the file he send me) and merged it with a 3D object, it turns out fine. Without the line. But as soon as i make my own postcard layer and use that one, i get the bug again.
The line is always in the center and horizontal, no matter where my 3D object is placed.
I checked on the basic 3D settings of the postcard layer, compared his to mine and couldn't find any differences. My PC is new and very powerful, it also can't be my GPU, since it turns out fine when i use his postcard layer.
I also tried resetting the presets by removing that file from the folder in appdata, but it didn't fix my problem.
Please someone help me! I bought a PC just to learn 3D work and it's very frustrating and discouraging  to be stuck at the beginning like that.

    Hi SG,
I dont know how to move the mesh and camera, but i did change the Ground Plane Shadow opacity to 0% and it did get rid of the line, even tho the final product looked different. The background got a lot brighter, which is probably easy fixable/adjustable.

The tutorial you linked is really nice and I will definitely try it out, but it's not the same. The shadows are on the "ground" below the 3D Text. In my linked tutorial the shadows are on the "wall" behind the 3D Text. Sorry to be so picky right now, I really want this bug to be gone and it's such a strange bug, when other peoples postcardlayers work on my rig, but my own won't. I'm a beginner and I don't even know what else you can do with a postcard layer, but I know I will need it at some point.
I also appreciate your guys help so far. You are investing your time and thoughts and all that for free. Thank you.
edit: here is the difference between using my friends postcardlayer vs using my own, but turning the Ground Plane Shadow opacity to 0%.
    http://oi59.tinypic.com/2ic5d08.jpg
    http://oi62.tinypic.com/2aipjl0.jpg
the shadow position is slightly different and the proper version has some lighting(?) on top. The proper versions shadows and lighting look more dynamic/alive(?). I don't know the right terms. To be honest, I would properly be just as picky if it was the other way around :/
edit: I just tried out turning up the Ground Plane Reflections (while shadows on 0%) just to see what it does and it brought the line back.

  • Horizontal lines after rendering?

I have a video that is very 'fast' or theres a lot of movement in it.
After I render it, it becomes very 'line-y' when ever there's quick movement. Basically I can see horizontal tearing lines.
The source footage is not like this.
Is there any special method or codec I can use to avoid this?

Sounds like the video is interlaced. You computer is progressive scan and some cameras shoot interlaced. Older TV's are interlaced and some of the newer one's are both. If the end result is for computer only you'll want to de-interlace the video. If it's for TV only you can probably leave it alone and it should playback fine when you play it on a TV.
I believe to de-interlace you only need to change it when you export to "Progressive Scan". However, you can also de-interlace the clips in your project before you export. I called Adobe tech support about this same thing several years ago and they suggested I do both, de-interlace the clips in the project and when you export it.
You may have seen 1080i and 720p, etc... the P is for progressive scan and the I is for interlaced. I believe the reason for interlaced was because it's less bandwith to send half the image at a time (every other line) than the whole image. So, a broadcast need to use interlaced. But, everything I assume is moving to progressive scan. However, I imagine interlace will always be supported since so many things are interlaced.
Simply play with a small clip by exporting it simply as it is and make a DVD of it, play it and see how it looks on your DVD player. My DVD player actually has a button on it for progressive scan. You may need to change a setting on it or your TV, or it may just play it as is. Then, if you're not happy with the results, try simply setting the export option to progressive scan.
I don't have Premiere installed on this computer otherwise I'd look to see how to de-interlace the clips for you, but it's something easy like right clicking the clips on the timeline or something. I may look later and get back to you on that.
    Hope that helps!

  • How to draw horizontal line in smartform after end of the all line items

    Hi Friends,
I am working on the smartform. I have created TABLE node in Main window.
i want to draw a horizontal line after end of the main window table node. i mean after printing all the line items of the table, I need to print one horizontal line.
Could you please help me how to resolve this issue.
FYI: I tried with the below two options. But no use.
    1. desinged footer area in the table node of the main window.
    2. tried with uline and system symbols.
please correct me if i am wrong. please explain in detail how to draw horizontal line after end of the main window table.
    this is very urgent.
    Thanks in advance
    Regards
    Raghu

    Hello Valter Oliveira,
Thanks for your answer. But I need some more detail about blank line text. i.e thrid point.
Could you please tell me how to insert blank line text.
1 - in your table, create a line type with only one column, with the same width of the table
2 - in table painter, create a line under the line type
3 - insert a blank line text in the footer section with the line type you have created.

  • How to insert horizontal line dynamically after every line item in sapscrip

    Hi All,
I have to insert a horizontal line  after every new item in sap script.
    How to do this .
In some material there is2 line item or in other line item it ay be more .
How to insert horizontal line dynamically after every line item
    Point will be rewarded
    Regards
    Niraj

    Hi Niraj,
You can get your work done by keeping the horizontal line (&ULINE&) after all the item level fields, in this case once each item line is written you will get a horizontal line.
In case you have different fields for the item lines which are optional (not printed every time) then you can have them in an IF....ENDIF condition and below the endif use a horizontal line.
    Some thing like this:
    /E ITEM_HEADER
    IL <TI>Item,,Material,,Description</>
    IP <TI>,,,,Quantity,,,,Price,,Price unit,,,,,,Value</>
    / &ULINE(71)&
Let me know if this helps, else please describe your problem with an example.
    Luck.

  • 2011 MBP 8.2 has horizontal blue/white lines on boot.

Like the subject line says my 2011 MBP only shows blue/white horizontal lines on boot.
    Just started to happen.
The screen froze while I was swiping btwn screens so I rebooted and that's when it occurred.
Tried the SMC reset w/o any luck.
    I hope nothing is fried.
    Any help is appreciated.

Your profile says "2008" but the header says "2011"... which is it?
Regardless, it sounds as if you have a problem with either your Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) or with your screen - more likely than not, your GPU. You need to get to an Apple Store or an AASP and have them run diagnostics on your machine. The repair might be costly if you're no longer under AppleCare.

  • Report Painter / Writer - Horizontal Line

    Hi
Can anybody please let me know how to get a horizontal line after a particular row in a report painter/writer report.
    this is very urgent!!
    helpful answers will be rewarded!!
    raghav

Hi there.  This is from SAP help:
On the Create Report: Rows screen, move the cursor to the row set for which you want to enter characteristic information and choose Edit --> Choose.
The Row Characteristic dialog box appears. You can switch between characteristics using the Prev. characteristic and Next characteristic buttons.
Enter data in the Totals display group box as required:
The Totals display fields allow you to enter a number range of levels and then:
    - Underscore or overscore with single or double lines or format characters at these levels.
    - Insert additional blank lines between levels.
    - Highlight lines between levels.
    - Define colors for lines.
Set the Lower border indicators depending on how you want the lower border for the row characteristic totals to appear. You can define the lower border so that no lower border appears, a single line appears, a double line appears, or a user-defined character is used for the border.
Set the Upper border indicators depending on how you want the upper border for the row characteristic totals to appear. You can define the upper border so that no upper border appears, a single line appears, a double line appears, or a user-defined character is used for the border.
    I hope this helps.
